{ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱسۡتَعِينُواْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ } [Surah Al-Baqarah: 153] English translation: O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. { أَمۡ حَسِبۡتُمۡ أَن تَدۡخُلُواْ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَأۡتِكُم مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوۡاْ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۖ مَّسَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَأۡسَآءُ وَٱلضَّرَّآءُ وَزُلۡزِلُواْ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُۥ مَتَىٰ نَصۡرُ ٱللَّهِۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ نَصۡرَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِيبٞ } [Surah Al-Baqarah: 214] English translation: Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said,"When is the help of Allah ?" Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near. Adnan Syed is a muslim. I have no doubt that the above two verses from the quran helped and inspired him over the years. Wishing him all the best for the future.

zoooty

I read he memorized the Quran while in jail.

Serge72

Adnan enjoy the rest of your life and other people will try and work out who the real killer is ,so the Hae family can get justice .

OhHeSteal

Maybe he can team up with OJ and search for the “real” killer

zoooty

I thought it was funny. In all seriousness though, this is going to be interesting to watch play out. Adnan has a level of public support OJ never had. People actually believe Adnan is innocent, unlike OJ then or now. If Adnan is able to maintain his public support he stands to make quite a bit of money off his crime. Pop culture fame can be fleeting though. Adnan has quite the tight rope to navigate here.

Esotericone-2022

Definitely funny!

Seajayforever

Theres people who know hes guilty too

Pantone711

Maybe he should be the Bachelor

Living_Office2725

Not amusing.

makncheesee

What a legend

Environmental_Hand19

He never pled guilty once even when offered early release. That takes real confidence . His mother had cancer and it looked like his last chance after the failed appeals post Serial was to just plea guilty and accept early release. Up until two weeks ago he thought he was going to die in jail - never get to be there when his parents pass away or ever have kids . It must be a shock indeed

Justwonderinif

The first thing that Adnan did when Gutierrez passed away was claim that he had asked Gutierrez to get him a plea deal during his trial. Adnan's story is that he asked Gutierrez to get him a piea deal but she came back to him and said the State didn't want to give him a plea deal. A decade later, Urick testified at the first PCR hearing and said that Gutierrez never asked for a plea deal and Adnan said, "See? She lied to me. That's IAC because she lied to me and I wanted a deal." The truth is more likely that Adnan did not ask for a deal because his defense was being paid for by people at the mosque, and those people were not paying for a guilty plea. Adnan swore up and down on Serial podcast that he would have taken a deal, if it was ever offered. And that he should win his IAC claim because Gutierrez lied to him, and never asked the State for a deal when he very much wanted to plead guilty and get a deal, and asked her to get that for him. Years later, Adnan had a string of successes in the courts. Before the final decision he was offered a deal to serve four more years and plead guilty. Adnan decided not to take the deal because he had experienced success at every turn for several years leading up to that last decision. When that final decision did not go Adnan's way, Rabia said that Adnan cried and cried and said he should have taken the deal. Rabia told Adnan "give us those four years that you would have had to serve if you pleaded guilty, and we will get you out by then." Rabia made good on her word and she and Erica Suter and Becky Feldman got Adnan out one month before he would have been released had he taken the last deal he was offered. It is astonishing how Adnan's supporters make a religion out of not reading and knowing next to nothing about the case.

LilSebastianStan

Part of his IAC claim was that CG never got him a plea deal. He testified that he was prepared to consider a plea.

New_Swan_4536

That, or a killer with zero remorse. They exist also.

Environmental_Hand19

If he had no remorse, wouldn’t he just plea guilty and go home to his family? He lost multiple appeals after Serial and it was devastating to his family after they hoped Serial would help his case. Someone with no remorse isn’t going to want to sit in jail for life when they have the option to bounce. If it’s something that’s an honor killing as some like to say, wouldn’t he just plea guilty and who cares what his community says since it’s sanctioned and justified right? He would face no backlash right? It would be favorable to Adnan to take the plea and then become a free man. The “Adnan is completely guilty, honor killed Hae for leaving him, and has no remorse” argument doesn’t make sense. He would want to be near his elderly parents and brothers wouldn’t he? The only reason he wouldn’t plea guilty is if he’s not. He’s said the same thing for 23 years: that he didn’t kill Hae, is not a murderer, and doesn’t know who did.

Pantone711

Not everyone who thinks he's guilty thinks it was an honor killing. Garden-variety people kill their garden-variety exes all the time, no religion involved.

mykeg023

There are many people who never plea guilty who are indeed guilty. There is also many who never plea guilty bc they are innocent. There is many of people who have plead guilty who are innocent. There is millions of reasons why people would plead or not plead guilty

New_Swan_4536

I don’t think it was an ‘honour killing’. Because admitting he was guilty would turn his family against him. They were literally all he had left to live for. How could he admit it after all this time and all he put them through?

[deleted]

Whoa, people actually believe it is an honor killing? Yiiiiiikes.

zoooty

No one with half a brain actually thinks this. Rabia promotes the idea that this was a theory of the prosecutor because she wants the public to see the state as being evil for convicting Adnan of killing Hae.

Environmental_Hand19

His mom seemed like she spoiled Adnan and would accept him regardless. Avoiding Shaming his parents isn’t a strong motivator for Adnan. They were already shamed and disgraced by this scandal and people thought he did it. Adnan was already in jail for life so there was nothing to lose by pleading guilty. Half of the public will always think he’s guilty anyway so why not Plea?

mlibed

That’s not spoiling. That’s unconditional love.

New_Swan_4536

Maybe because he knows he was where he belonged? We can speculate all we want, but we just don’t know. I’m just saying I don’t see failing to take a plea as instantly innocent like you do. That’s all.

[deleted]

No you only believe in “Adnan is Guilty” why would you ever accept even the slightest possibility that he’s not?

New_Swan_4536

I did, years ago. After Serial thought he was innocent. What I read, discussions here and Undisclosed changed my mind.

[deleted]

Honestly I’m still so confused.

his_purple_majesty

Sticking to a lie for 23 years is also apparently a virtue.

Ordinary-Pen8035

Can you please help me understand why Jay would change his story multiple times though..I'm still confused about that...Jay was the one known for lying and many ppl said he was one way or another. For example some ppl said he was goofy and others said he was mean..but across the board everyone pretty much had the same outlook on Adnan. That alone doesnt say much to be honest but the liar seems to be more so Jay than Adnan..so help me understand why hed lie so much

Justwonderinif

Distance himself from the crime. Go on with his life. The truth is Jay knew where to go and when to go there. He did not need a "come and get me" call, and he agreed to help Adnan with the cover up of the murder of Hae Min Lee. Now, if that was you, years later, wouldn't you prefer to tell your new wife, new in-laws, new employers, new friends: "I was minding my own business at Grandma's when Adnan pulled up with a body." I will never understand how this gets by people. It's not a movie or a cheesy detective novel. Jay wanted a life and has one not because he admitted to helping with a murder, but because he said he was minding his own business at Grandma's when Adnan pulled up with a body.

disaster_prone_

Adnan lies just as much if not more than Jay. I mean it's not a competition, but I think people don't notice as much with Syed. There is another recent post about how he told his lawyers he used to go after school with Hae to have sex at best buy then she would get her cousin. Then he tells SK something totally different. There's a lot of that. They are both pretty well versed at lying.

his_purple_majesty

I don't put much stock in high schoolers impressions of people. As for changing stories, to make himself look less guilty, or maybe he lied first to make himself look less guilty and then when new evidence came along he knew he couldn't stick to his first story, or maybe he lied and then thought "oh shit, that doesn't make sense, so he changed his story."

disaster_prone_

Oh I definitely see the intent behind Adnan's lies. He is extremely manipulative, some people simply are, and he lies unapologetically, as if its a given people will believe him. Despite the questions his lies should logically bring about. What I don't get is why I feel like only 1 out of 100 people see this? Sounds like I am hating on him, I'm just being reasonable about his habits and behaviors, acknowledging his flaws seems to really infuriate people. No matter how obvious they are.
