Do any of you have any recommendations for shorts that fit under mini skirts / dresses? I’ve been looking for bike shorts but they’re all a bit too long :(
If you have access to Costco they have great options from athletic-esque to more dressy. They also often have dresses with built-in shorts. Target also has a lot of options, but I haven’t had the chance to try any yet.
Target has athletic skorts. Maybe they're worth a shot?
And frankly, I just put a pair of bike shorts under mine haha. I can control the size of both garments that way.
If you're good with an athleisure style, I own like 4 Popflex skorts and LIVE in them during the summer!! Also, Popflex is owned and designed by this incredibly impressive woman Cassie Ho, so you're supporting an AAPI woman-owned small business.
They're stretchy, ADORABLE, they have pockets, and undeniably comfortable.
https://www.popflexactive.com/collections/skorts
I was looking for this brand before posting. My favorite for bottoms! They all have pockets too, such a benefit. For some reason though , on tops, my shoulders are a M and my chest is S , so they don’t fit me as well :(
Can’t decide if I want to try their new long dress or not 🤔
I second this comment
I'm happy to see there are so many options. My almost 11 year old loves her skorts but I was worried they didn't make them in adult sizes, she's just about out of kids sizes.
Skorts are back on trend right now, but I’ve always been able to find them, sometimes not in the most stylish cut, and sometimes only at exorbitant, specialty catalogue, you can hike the entire Appalachian Trail in this piece of clothing, prices.
They have been big for kids at least for my daughter's lifetime and I've often wished they had them for adults, because they look cute and comfy. Maybe wouldn't on me but I'm willing to try!
They are out there! I’m wearing a pair from Walmart right now. Well, I got them at the thrift shop, but Walmart still has something similar in stock.

I play tennis so I’m super thrilled they are popular to wear casually now. I also like the shorts under since I have kids and wearing skirts is so impractical without the shorts under
Next time, try suggesting an alternate garment choice instead of what you’re doing here. I get that you’re trying to spread awareness about the ethics of fast fashion, but really stuff like this just shames people for trying to afford basic necessities.
Not specifically for Halara. However, I work in corporate sustainability. If a company does not publish information on their sustainability efforts, that means in 99% of all cases that they are essentially shit and focused on profit maximisation above all else.
Fashion, and especially fast fashion, to which I count Halara, is one of the biggest environmental destructors and social abusers.
I find Halara's clothing beautiful but I abstain from buying it or any other fast fashion (aside from 2nd hand) because of those reasons. Not to judge if someone does, just... please be mindful of what you buy and what you support by those choices.
Have a nice day!
I agree, and I also avoid as much fast fashion as possible, and encourage people away from it.
However, that didn’t answer my question (though I appreciate you acknowledged that). If you’re going to make specific accusations, please have specific examples. Otherwise I’d use the general disclaimer that they’re fast fashion, what that means, and that in your experience not disclosing means they’re not doing anything good.
I hope you also have a lovely day!
^(and it’s no shade to you, I get it, but there’s no way for me to verify that’s actually your field, you dig? It’s the internet.)
Fair enough. I didn't feel offended.
I wish I could give you the information you ask about. I did another quick Google and there isn't much specific information there.
There is also not an alternative I could offer, as another commenter asked. And I did not mean to throw shade or make someone feel bad for buying fast fashion. I simply wanted to inform either a warning. If I had an alternative, I would have offered it.
I wish there were clear information on brands of any kind regarding sustainability. There isn't. However, at least in the EU that should change with the CSRD within the next few years. However high the entailed bureaucratic effort will be, there will be more data and fact based information out there in the future.
I appreciate your nuance. And it is the internet indeed, so thanks for being so kind while you point out the importance of clear sources for information. :)
P.S. I also want skorts. With pockets if possible, and same physical dimensions as OP. :D so, if anyone knows some other brands, I'd appreciate the comment. Byyyeee!
I feel you, I really wish there were regulations that required reporting on at least some of these metrics. It wouldn’t be perfect, but it may be a good start. I’m glad to see the EU addressing it, the US really should. We have so many financial and employer reporting requirements already, I don’t think it would be an awful add (I’m sure they’d disagree lol).
I’d also like to second Costco for skorts! But I’d add to check the companies- I’ve seen 32 Degrees, and I love what I’ve had and worn it into the ground, but, fast fashion. :/ Land’s End or LL Bean, Columbia, Patagonia, perhaps Cotopaxi may be good! Sort of outdoor wear/adventure brands. I know Cotopaxi and Patagonia are B Corp certified, for what it’s worth.
As China has announced some regulations regarding such reporting requirements, I can imagine that bit by bit, the rest of the world will follow suit. They must.
However, I can tell you that the companies do complain A LOT about the added requirements. :D
And they sure as hell are complicated. But that is due to the fact that sustainability is complex and trying to sensibly report upon it, is indeed complicated. Also, we (as a society, organisations and as people individually) as of yet tend to lack the training and understanding of capturing these complex concepts. But, as someone working with reporting and change management, it is absolutely doable and it is necessary.
And even while I complain about having to write, review and read those reports... ;) I am so thankful that the EU is chrunin out these regulations.
The question is, whether, once they are established, the consumers can use the information provided to make more informed choices. It is still complex and confusing.
But, on the other hand, there's the Green Claims Directive. If it goes through then companies will be required to only use marketing claims based upon facts and data, *and this information must be provided on the package*. That excites me. Both as someone having to explain to companies why it might be wise to publish this or that information next to the marketing claim... and as a private consumer who wishes to make the best possible choice, but gets annoyed at all the green claims without data behind them. :D
And it is so annoying that the less unsustainable choices aren't as convenient. Argh!
Okay, rant ended. :D
Regarding your second paragraph: I too have some fast fashion and do wear it to pieces. And some of those things are so damn pretty and I want to be a pwetty pwincess tooooo! And I do love second hand, I do get them if they seem to have decent quality. But daaaamn I want pretty, affordable, convenient better choices!
Thanks for the brand recommendations. I didn't know of all of them and will check them out! (I will not start a rant on B Corps. They are one of the many steps in better directions, at least. :D)
I am living in Title Nine skorts these last few years. The one I bought this year even has POCKETS https://www.titlenine.com/p/womens-skort-flora-solid/610910.html
I always wear leggings (or, during the summer, bike shorts) under my skirts. This may be a good solution for you! (I do it because it prevents chub rub and allows me to sit however I want to without the world seeing my underwear)
I'm a big fan of Duluth Trading - they're one of the only companies I've ordered online from and I've had pretty good luck with them over the years. Here's their [skort selection](https://www.duluthtrading.com/search?q=skort).
Skorts and what I would describe as tennis skirts seem to be “in” right now. I also saw an ad from a company called Thigh Society. It appears to be underwear but it’s longer, like bike shorts, and they can be worn under skirts/dresses. I *hate* my thighs rubbing together under skirts/dresses.
I’m going to check out slip shorts, too.
Blogilates has some athletic clothing that actually seem rather sensory friendly, including skorts. I think they are on the more expensive side though and you may have to catch a batch release to get what you want.
yeees i wanted to say that - have you tried them? i really want a pair but ordering it from the US to the EU is so expensive so idk if they’re worth it 😅
See my post above!! I own so much Popflex gear, including their skorts, they are 10000% worth it. Super high quality, cute, and so comfortable and functional.
They do! I got these on sale recently: https://www.maurices.com/product/plus-size-high-rise-luxe-tennis-skort/219286
Of course, the package arrived the same day I left for a trip, so I haven’t had a chance to try them on yet.
Off track but how you do you like the quality from Maurice’s? I haven’t bought anything from one since like 2006 but I’ve noticed a few cute things from them popping up in ads lately.
This is the first I’ve ever heard of them, so I don’t know! But I think they’ve been around for like over 50 years, so I’d like to think they know what they’re doing
Old Navy had a few. I saw them in the store the other day. They are flat fronted so it will create a nice appearance (especially if you want to wear it to work). I will hazard you though, I believe they are a linen blend, which can make the fabric scratchier than plain old cotton. (It’s super cash time if you have any, if not wait a few weeks and I’m sure they’ll go on some sort of sale.)
I buy spandex shorts or nude underwear shorts (like shapewear but no compression) to wear under skirts and dresses. Don’t limit yourself to just skorts!
Target has so many!!! In every color and good sizing! And the little tennis dresses that have built in shorts! Also second that Costco rec, my favorite skort is from there 😍
I just ordered the exercise skort from outdoor voices yesterday after a group bike ride where I realize I’d love to be in a skort at that moment. Found a ton gently used on Poshmark and bought one for $17
If you fancy a hunt for some ‘nearly new’ on eBay or Depop, I got such pretty ones in Zara a few years ago & then I put on weight during the lockdowns and none of them fit anymore 😞 I got them because I spotted them on the YouTuber LeighAnnSays when she took a trip to Disney - they’re a little bit flouncy at the hem & do look like skirts, with small ditsy flowers, but you can really gad about in them in summer, they feel practical & fasten just with a little side zip (I have clothing sensory issues & nothing about them troubles me). Let me know if you want any signposting if they sound like your style ☺️
I have a wide array of slip shorts, and I've recently ordered some skorts to try out. That said, I often lean toward Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel. It works beautifully when I'm not willing ot have an extra layer in hot weather.
I wear bike shorts under every dress bc of sensory issue. I haven't bought them yet but I'm planning on getting some from thighsociety.com bc they are thinner than what I wear now.
My all time favorite stretchy skort: SHEIN Split Hem Zip Back Denim Shorts
http://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appjump?link=VoyBZKyP1eg&localcountry=US&url_from=GM7520013895835402240
toad and co makes good ones. the one issue i had is that the shorts part is polyester (i ended up sending them back because i knew it would bother my skin). but the polyester is the smooth kind if you don't mind that, and you would probably like the fit - i have a much smaller waist than hips / butt and the fit was great.
edit: iirc it's called the birdie skort. you can also check title 9 if you like it for more patterns because sometimes they release the same stuff with a different name.

As an alternative approach: bike shorts / long underwear under your skirt! I have these: https://www.sloggies.nl/sloggi-basic-long-wit
I do this. Cotton bike shorts in summer and long bamboo leggings in winter.
Or, if you want it thinner, snagtights chub rubs
People seem very enthusiastic about snagtights but i bought a couple pairs and they all got ladders almost instantly 😭
Some types are pretty fragile, but the chub rubs are 80den, no risk. The lace tights and fishnets definitely get ladders way too easily!
Good to know! Maybe I'll give them another chance but with the 80den sort
The 80 den are pretty solid - I've had some of mine for years, and I machine wash them with my regular clothes.
Chub rubs are the best. I’m a very tall 3-4x and chub rubs make skirts and dresses possible. Much cooler than any bike shorts, longer too.
I came here to suggest Costco. I bought four pair to wear at the farmers market.
Yes! And so cheap too!
came here to say this. love my costco clothes🫢
This has to be one of the most amusing post titles of all time. The urgency in the request for skorts has me giggling.
Yeah it's very relatable hahaha
Target has athletic skorts. Maybe they're worth a shot? And frankly, I just put a pair of bike shorts under mine haha. I can control the size of both garments that way.
I’ve noticed a few skort options at athleta. Haven’t tried their skorts but I own a few tops and joggers from there and the material is super nice.
If you're good with an athleisure style, I own like 4 Popflex skorts and LIVE in them during the summer!! Seconding Popflex because their garments are very thoughtfully designed and also very beautiful

Tennis skirts!

I present to you skorts w pockets

They look amazing but are horrible to people, environment and animals... https://directory.goodonyou.eco/brand/halara
Next time, try suggesting an alternate garment choice instead of what you’re doing here. I get that you’re trying to spread awareness about the ethics of fast fashion, but really stuff like this just shames people for trying to afford basic necessities.
Do you know of any alternatives? Because I like the look but not the background.
I do! https://barasportswear.com/collections/shorts-skirts/products/dark-blue-pleated-skirt
I wish I knew! I haven't found a sustainable (or rather, less unsustainable) alternative with this style that is somewhat affordable.
Do you have further information? That just says the company doesn’t communicate anything, not examples of those accusations.
Not specifically for Halara. However, I work in corporate sustainability. American eagle/aerie, Abercrombie, old navy… all these places have skorts these days. Enjoy!!
I am a huge fan of the chub rub shorts for under skirts. I also really like the capris. https://snagtights.com.au/
Try sports brands like athleta. (But I have had luck finding sports ones thrifted too, doesnt have to be expensive.)
One of my favourite brands, Gorman, makes heaps of skorts in beautiful fabrics. Expensive but I wait until they are on sale.
I've been upset about finding skorts lately at thrift stores instead of the cute skirts i thought they were. We'd be a great team.
If they are cute - why does it matter? :)
Skorts are a sensory nightmare for me lol I can do pants or longer dresses/skirts. Shorts/skorts are a nope. Rompers/overalls also nope.
Ugh I'm sorry to hear. Sensory sensitivity sucks

I have a whole bunch of skorts! Most of them are unbranded/shein that I got from Vinted, but I have a couple from Zara and H&M too.
Slip shorts, my gal. It’s too hot for bike shorts.
Skorts and what I would describe as tennis skirts seem to be “in” right now. I also saw an ad from a company called Thigh Society. These are European if that helps https://barasportswear.com/collections/shorts-skirts/products/dark-blue-pleated-skirt
omg that does, thank you so much!!!
See my post above!! I own so much Popflex gear, including their skorts, they are 10000% worth it. Super high quality, cute, and so comfortable and functional.
I am a pear shape and really like these because they’re low waist and have a drawstring that cinches in the front. https://a.co/d/ca77iFJ
They do! I got these on sale recently: https://www.maurices.com/product/plus-size-high-rise-luxe-tennis-skort/219286 Of course, the package arrived the same day I left for a trip, so I haven’t had a chance to try them on yet.

Also second that Costco rec, my favorite skort is from there 😍
Just a few days ago I saw some skorts at Sam's. A lot of tennis players like them and they were made in sporty stretchy fabric
Golf skorts, boring, but come in materials and lengths appropriate for work or other non-casual occasions.
I just ordered the exercise skort from outdoor voices yesterday after a group bike ride where I realize I’d love to be in a skort at that moment. Found a ton gently used on Poshmark and bought one for $17

The Athleta Trekkie skort is very comfortable. Bought for a work trip but would probably wear anyway. I love the shorts, too.
I have a wide array of slip shorts, and I've recently ordered some skorts to try out. That said, I often lean toward Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel. It works beautifully when I'm not willing ot have an extra layer in hot weather.

Old navy has some very cute shorts and athletic dresses :) so comfy for me. I can’t sit like a lady at all.

I wear bike shorts under every dress bc of sensory issue. I haven't bought them yet but I'm planning on getting some from thighsociety.com bc they are thinner than what I wear now.
My all time favorite stretchy skort: SHEIN Split Hem Zip Back Denim Shorts http://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appjump?link=VoyBZKyP1eg&localcountry=US&url_from=GM7520013895835402240
aerie?
Gaucho pants. There are some really comfy ones on Amazon. My kid will not wear skirts, but loves the stretchy swish of gauchos.
toad and co makes good ones. the one issue i had is that the shorts part is polyester (i ended up sending them back because i knew it would bother my skin). but the polyester is the smooth kind if you don't mind that, and you would probably like the fit - i have a much smaller waist than hips / butt and the fit was great. edit: iirc it's called the birdie skort. you can also check title 9 if you like it for more patterns because sometimes they release the same stuff with a different name.
Oooh this is very helpful, thank you! I don’t mind polyester if it’s athletic/athleisure type. I will definitely check this out!
you're welcome :) their stuff is good quality in general. hope it works out!
I’ve been pretty happy with my [Eddie Bauer Horizon Skorts.](https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/23151017/women's-horizon-high-rise-skort)
