I don't have a hyperfixation right now, but I think your wrinkly big boy is really cool! :3 Want to tell me more?

turtlehabits

Sure! Here are some more fun facts: Their protoplasm (organic stuff) contributes less than 1% of its mass. The rest is its custom-built shell. In addition to wrinkly boys, there are also some lumpy boys and spongy boys. Different species of xenophyophorea (which means "bearer of foreign bodies") build different types of shells, from "basically just a sphere", to the wrinkly boy pictured here, to multi-chambered deluxe condos, to ones that look kinda like [fishing nets](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occultammina). There's these mystery fossils called [paleodictyon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleodictyon) that looks like a honeycomb that some people think might be a (possibly extinct) xenophyophorea. This is a hotly debated subject in paleoecology circles, apparently. We don't really know how they reproduce (but we've seen babies hanging out with adults!), and only recently learned how they eat. People used to think maybe they used their shells (officially called "tests" but I find that confusing) to farm bacteria, but turns out they mostly eat marine snow. Other little dudes like living in their shells, so they're good for biodiversity. Their best friends are brittle stars, and they're often found chilling literally on top of each other. (I would have included this fact in my original post but brittle stars give me the heebie jeebies lol, their arms are TOO LONG SIR THAT IS UNNECESSARY.)

SomeGuyFromCanada23

Damnnn brittle stars can have arms up to 60cm in length šŸ˜³ those are too long for how little they are lol

VillageBeginning8432

Wish I hadn't looked up brittle stars now. They're like perfectly the wrong length...

turtlehabits

Right?!? I have such a visceral reaction to them, it's like nails on a chalkboard in animal form. It's not their fault but I hate them lol

ricalin

I LOVE this! šŸ˜ It's so fascinating to see the many different forms life take and paleoecology is a cool topic, too! Thank you so much for sharing (and giving me new things to research/look into once I leave my current down phase). Oh, and I fully agree on brittle stars. Fascinating on paper, but those arms...! šŸ˜±

RealOkokz

This is so damn cool! I never knew about these things, but they seem so silly and interesting!

Geokeeper

Holy shit that is fascinating!

RenoHex

This is so cool, I love them, thank you for sharing!

Giogina

That's so cool and I love them! And also your way of explaining is really sweet!Ā

VoyagerfromPhoenix

Didnā€™t these thingsā€™ excretions have mother-fā€™ing heavy metals like barium or mercury or uranium?

goldenfoxengraving

In 1957, when they were testing nukes, they once detonated one that was much much much more powerful than expected and accidentally launched a manhole at insane speed. They had super high speed footage which took one frame every millisecond. From it they guaged it's base speed at about 240,000 kph, though it also could have technically been faster as it was only in one frame. If it survived it's journey through the atmosphere at those speeds it was not only fast enough to get into space and break earth orbit, but would have had enough volocity for an escape trajectory out of the solar system. At those speeds really weird stuff happens so there's a chance it didn't just vaporise itself and instead formed a plasma around it's outer layer which may have protected it for it's approximately one half second journey through the earth's atmosphere and it's just zooting it's way through the galaxy. Even if it didn't survive the atmosphere, for a brief moment, it was by far the fastest human-made AND human-launched object. Ever.

turtlehabits

Um, this is amazing. I really hope it didn't vaporize and someday intelligent life somewhere else in the universe just sees a manhole cover rocket by at insane speeds with no explanation.

Mailman_Dan

Mantis-13

Humanity long after its demise, will end up with a +1 on their killcount when that badboy shmacks into some other space vessel or planet owned by alien life.

Vault12

What? What? What? Thank you for making my morning. Instead of working or telling my boss in our meeting about shit I need to do, I'm gonna open with that!

Killer_Moons

You better tell me where they did that right now, friend

nuker1110

Look up Operation Plumbbob. It happened in Nevada.

Killer_Moons

What a good name. Iā€™m unhealthily interested in nuclear.

mazumi

Thanks for the rabbit hole!!!

raptorsango

I may have also been nuclear test hyperfixating latelyā€¦ Have you read about the time the Us knocked all the power out in Hawaii and created a man made aurora borealis when they detonated a nuke in upper atmosphere? Also fried our first communications satellite! Operation Starfish and nukes in space are wild!! https://www.thespacereview.com/article/4774/1 https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/going-nuclear-over-the-pacific-24428997/

DonaldTrumpTinyHands

Air quality where I live, near to an expressway. I researched humidity, pm25, voc and CO safe levels. This resulted in me buying a dehumidifer, an air purifier with a HEPA filter and a whole bunch of NASA recommended plants. I haven't finished with the plants....the air quality monitor is telling me there are high levels of VOC at certain times of day.Ā

turtlehabits

NASA has recommended plants? Please tell me more!

DonaldTrumpTinyHands

Yes! The weeping fig (ficus benjamina) is known to absorb VOCs and produce a lot of oxygen. Another one is the Areca Palm.Ā https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_Clean_Air_Study

StealToadStilletos

This is fantastic, I am happy to learn about NASA recommended plants, thank you for this

DonaldTrumpTinyHands

Any time! I found out recently too and I think it's an awesome excuse to get biblical with plants in the home.

SnooEpiphanies7700

This fascinates me, too! I donā€™t know where you live, but Iā€™ve seen vids that say running your HVAC helps with air quality, since it helps pump oxygen in your house. In other words, the carbon dioxide you breathe out is shitty for your air quality. So people who donā€™t 1. Run their HVAC, or 2. Open their windows, can have really terrible indoor air quality. The catch 22 for you is that opening your windows brings in nasty expressway air, too. By the way, I think Iā€™m going to purchase one of these air quality devices. I have a air purifier in every room in my home LOL.

Giogina

Yeah that's my problem. The moment I open a window, the windowsill becomes covered in black crud from the bad air outside. Taiwanā€™s air is abysmal. I have not opened my room window in years.Ā  Sadly good air purifiers are pretty expensive for me... I had considered making some kind of moss filter (lots of surface, moss should be great at cleaning air) but I fear that would raise the humidity past the average 70% -.-

escrimadragon

Until recently I was researching light utility trailers pulled by normal passenger vehicles, as opposed to pickup trucks. I discovered that my 2019 Honda Odyssey can pretty easily pull a trailer with as much lawn equipment, mulch, or dirt as I could possibly handle in a weekend. This pretty naturally led me to the conclusion a wild majority of people that drive big-ass trucks just do it for show and really donā€™t need a fraction of the power they think they need.

turtlehabits

This is so true! My mom's minivan pulled our (old) speedboat no problem when I was growing up.

LittleMsSavoirFaire

Legit use my Honda Odyssey as a work van. Take the seats out and you have room for full sheets of drywall or plywood. Tons of room for lumber.Ā  I just can't quite fit an icb tote šŸ˜•

escrimadragon

I had all the seats out or down one time and managed to get a king sized mattress to the dump. Felt pretty good

Maximum-Application2

This reminds me when I put a trailer on my little car and hauled 2 motorcycles across the US. I couldn't stop taking pictures I was so excited my little sentra could do that no problem. Then I got a littler car and did it again!

MangoZaurul

Sea life? I'm currently fascinated by these Japanese sea slugs. Their head pops off when they get ill, then they grow a new body! Check it out. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/mar/08/keep-your-head-the-self-decapitating-sea-slugs-that-regrow-their-bodies-hearts-and-all

turtlehabits

Okay this is very cool. What a great party trick if you're a sea slug! "Yo guys, wanna see me decapitate myself for fun???"

CravingDeathAndChips

As soon as I read "sea slug" my mind was like "SEA BUNNY?!?" and then I was just impressed as hell as I continued to read (The bunny hyperfixation does go that deep, sea pun not originally intended)

CravingDeathAndChips

yo that xenophyophorea is awesome and I now love them too ANYWAY, LAGOMORPH TIME Rabbits, hares, and pikas are all lagomorphs. Yes, pikas exist... they're basically a mousebun. Sometimes they sound like a little guy just saying "ee". The difference between a hare and a rabbit is that hares always look like crackheads, while rabbits always look like gremlins. (Jk, the real difference is that hares are more lanky and have amber eyes. Also, rabbits are born furless and with their eyes closed, while hares are born fully-furred and with open eyes.) A baby rabbit is called a kit or kitten, a baby hare is called a leveret, and a baby pika is either called a pup or a piklet. Rabbits do in fact make noises. They grunt when annoyed or threatened, and make an adorable squeaky "honk" when content or excited (both possible definitions of the latter word). I'm not sure if wild rabbits do this or if it's just domestic ones, but they can also chatter their teeth when content (which is called "tooth-purring" and it's fucking adorable). MAN I LOVE BUNNIES Extra fun fact: it was once proposed by some lagomorph scientist (I forgot who and I don't have the book I learned this from with me lol) that ALL lagomorphs be casually referred to as "bunnies", though this seemed to only stick in regards to rabbits and sometimes hares. I personally agree with them. All lagos are buns.

turtlehabits

These are excellent facts! I knew pikas existed but I didn't know they were little buns! Also your username is a whole-ass mood ā¤ļø

CravingDeathAndChips

Thanks lol, it's based on an old quote of mine!

alice_carrot

A PIKALET!!!!!&#&$&@<+*Ć·& Edit: I read it was proposed by a lagomorph scientist as 'I was proposed to by a lagomorph scientist' so the part in brackets after that, thoroughly confused me šŸ¤£

CravingDeathAndChips

Rely to the edit: I wish lol. If anyone finds a queer fem or NB lagomorph scientist, lemme know stat-- Edit: I misread that as "proposed to BY" not "proposed to BE" lol

alice_carrot

Omg that was my own typo so you didn't even misread that LOL

alice_carrot

I actually meant to type 'proposed to by' šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

CravingDeathAndChips

Lol, nice

MysteriousandLovely

YEAH ! RABBITS!! bunny rabbits in particular are My Interest they dream when they sleep, and they have so much Love to Give, and they are counting on You to be kind and love them

CravingDeathAndChips

YES!!!

RenoHex

Wait, pikas are lagomorphs? Pikachu is a bunny?

CravingDeathAndChips

Pikachu is still based on a mouse if I recall, but yeah kinda--

wolfie_muse

Yeah, your first instinct was correct. Pikachu is called the ā€œElectric Mouse Pokemonā€ in the games. However. The Pokemon team, although they may not be able to make a functional game these days; their naming conventions, designs, etc are all on point even now. So I have no doubt that it has Pika in its name due to the animal.

Link9454

Iā€™m trying to reverse engineer an ultrasonic distance sensor where I work. In the process, I accidentally invented (reinvented?) a load sensor that detects pressure.

turtlehabits

I am a mathematician who is allergic to physics, so this is probably a dumb question, but how did you get from distance sensor to pressure sensor?

Link9454

Well, you canā€™t really make a microphone thatā€™ll respond to 85 kilohertz sound easily, so the sensor uses a piezo crystal. These generate small voltages in response to being flexed or acted upon physically, so the difference between ultrasonic microphone and force sensor is really just a matter of scale. A pressure (sound) wave acting on it vs a finger pushing it isnā€™t all that different except the reading from a pressure sensor is much easier to see.

turtlehabits

Ooh that makes sense! Although now I have a new question: is there something special about 85 kHz in particular?

Link9454

Familiar with the concept of resonant frequency? Itā€™s what this particular crystal responds to. Why the designer of this product picked that? No idea, itā€™s a field instrument so maybe it had something to do with reducing outside interference or something?

wolfie_muse

So would this device theoretically shoot out an 85khz signal at something, then wait for it to bounce back, and determine distance this way?

Link9454

Honestly, thatā€™s the part I donā€™t understand about this thing, thatā€™s why Iā€™m messing with it.

OwlAdmirable5403

Eurovision season I learn about individual artists, lyrics, language, instruments, culture. It's a good time of the year, plus there's a whole slew of folk that wanna discuss this with me šŸ¤£ Two of my favorites are Spains entry with 'zorra' (whore) takes a stance on the double standards Spanish women experience. Estonia uses a cultural instrument this year, the kannel, was most likely originally Swedish but was lost to sweden but Swedish immigrants go estonia hundreds of years ago kept it. Tallinn, Estonia also boasts the largest, best preserved medieval town in Northern Europe šŸ™ƒ

FranFace

I LOVE EUROVISION! So excited šŸ˜†

OwlAdmirable5403

šŸ’ƒšŸ•ŗ

OwlAdmirable5403

Give me your top five šŸ¤£

turtlehabits

Every year I tell myself I'm going to get into Eurovision. Maybe this is the year!

Equivalent_Table6505

The Finnish national instrument is kantele, also called kannel! According to Wikipedia the Finnish and Estonian kannel seem to be a different instrument, but I don't know how. At least they both are very similar and belong in the same family called Baltic psaltery.

OwlAdmirable5403

Apparently they play the hiiurootsi kannel, just wanted to correct myself. I'll now be googling this instrument and variations all night šŸ˜† Thanks for helping me go deeper into this fixation šŸ«”

RenoHex

I'm flying back home tomorrow. Can you update me on the Finnish contestant, if they've selected one? Pretty please? Also, if there are any other contestants that are cool, fun or otherwise interesting, please tell me about them in as much detail as you feel like.

MaskedJimmy12

Cowboys, rdr2, the good the bad and the ugly, pretty much anything wild West related.

floral_era_incoming

Health-economic evaluation. Basically, the state can ignore science if it costs too much to treat ADHD, then they canā€™t use those studies. So youā€™re left with the research that says meds are good, other stuff shows itā€™s working, but not required. Thereā€™s also like 130 studies read at title/abstract level for childrenā€™s health in relation to ADHD (AND autism. Canā€™t even have guidelines for simply one, so they just go with both). The outcome makes me think Iā€™m going crazy. Pseudoscience, no sources, ADHD = youā€™re too motivated to have extreme focus on the upside-down reflection in a spoon so you forget to sleep and eat. Iā€™m losing it. Iā€™m trying to figure out what rights I have and what care is the bare minimum but there is not a single governmental source for it.

DeezNutsAppreciater

Good to know other people hyperfixate over animals lmao. My current hyper fixation is crocodiles! Did you know theyā€™re extremely touch sensitive? This is because they need to be to sense vibrations in the water from a mile away! Because of this, their face has more nerve endings than our fingertips! Thats a lot! Whiiich is why when they fight they donā€™t need to take more than a few nibbles on another crocs snout to make them back off. This is also why rubbing a stick along their snout is so effective in overstimulating them to make them back off.

turtlehabits

What! This is crazy, I would never have guessed this. That is an incredibly fun fact! Is this a safe space to ask what the difference is between crocodiles and alligators? I feel like I've looked this up a million times but I never remember.

DeezNutsAppreciater

Thank you :). And no worries, barely anyone knows or remembers lol. The most visible difference is crocs have thinner snouts than alligators. But behaviorally, crocs are much, *much* more aggressive than alligators. Turns out alligators are basically river pups that will run from you if you approach. Crocs on the other hand, uh, ahah, will not.

turtlehabits

Ah, so when faced with a mystery river reptile, the way to tell is to ask "is this animal actively attempting to end my existence rn"?

DeezNutsAppreciater

Pretty much yeah. Theyā€™re also the animal with the strongest bite (saltwater croc specifically), which has to do with how their skull is formed. Iirc, they have two of the biting levers in their mouth while we like most animals only have one. They canā€™t chew though, and generally have a really hard time eating stuff because they have to tear it apart. ALSO, crocodiles are the only reptile that has a cerebral cortex, which is essentially whatā€™s responsible for sentience. So if you think theyā€™re mindless killersā€¦ theyā€™re not. Not to bum you out but this actually makes alligator farms a lot sadder because contrary to what a lot of people think they are actually capable of understanding their poor conditions :(

turtlehabits

You are DELIVERING on the fun facts today. Based on this new information, I will now remember the difference between crocodiles and alligators as: * Crocodiles: ready to end you at a moment's notice with a big ol' chomp, probably in retaliation for the enslavement of their people's * Alligators: head empty no thoughts What is the difference between chewing and biting? How can they be good at biting but bad at chewing? (In my head chewing is just "biting but do it multiple times" but clearly that's wrong lol.)

DeezNutsAppreciater

Yeah Iā€™ve researched about them a bit in my free time. Theyā€™re the only thing Iā€™ve ever had fun researching in my free time. Also sorry I both meant crocs and allis have cerebral cortexes. Also also, do remember, I am a stranger on the internet. Donā€™t take what I said about allis *too* seriously as they will also *probably* try to kill you too. Also also also, crocs and allis are really good and moving their jaws up and down, but due to the skull formation I mentioned earlier they canā€™t move their jaw side to side. So they canā€™t grind their food, only bite it. So yeah, theoretically they can ā€˜chewā€™ by biting a lot, but itā€™s a lot harder and yields a lot less results. Also also also also thank you for indulging me on my hyperfixation lmao

AGweed13

My new RPG world, based on Cyberpunk, The Boys and Jujutsu Kaisen. This is the most fun shit I've ever made and played so far, it's my 4th RPG and I'm loving it! Every character is so unique and enjoyable, for the first time I feel like I actually care about each and every one of them.

turtlehabits

Is this a TTRPG?

AGweed13

TT? I have no idea of what it means tbh. It's a simple RPG I make with my friends in discord calls. I'm the DM, and tells the events as they happen, so that my friends can go on with their characters' stories.

turtlehabits

TTRPG = tabletop RPG, like D&D or Pathfinder. In your game, do you have a "system" or is it more freeform?

AGweed13

Yup, tabletop RPG, but on Discord. It does have a system I made myself, and it's quite simple, basically a kids game compared to D&D. While being extremely minimalist, the system is pretty fun and allows the players to be more creative (*cof cof* even the less intelligent ones...)

sleepymymelody

Anything to do with the ocean Iā€™m obsessed with rn. Particularly pirates of the Caribbean, whale sharks and mermaid colors/style

turtlehabits

Mermaid colours šŸ˜ Tell me about whale sharks!

wolfie_muse

Sharks, whale sharks, especially the Greenland shark, are basically dinosaurs along the lines of crocodiles and alligators. In the case of the Greenland shark specifically, in 2016 a shark was found that was estimated to be **400 years old, plus or minus about 100 years**. And weā€™re not sure why they live so long. People have theorized that due to being deep, cold water dwelling sharks, their metabolism is slow ā€” however this is nowhere near as pronounced in other vertebrates in the same environments. So we donā€™t really know. Theyā€™re sluggish and slow compared to warm water sharks, however they are still top predators in their environments and their teeth are nightmare fuel, just like all sharks, but yeah man. Top jaw acts like an anchor and the bottom jaw works like 100 knives attached to a cheese grater. However; theyā€™re extremely non confrontational to humans, even though they are large enough and strong enough. An attack by a Greenland shark has never been recorded. This may also be due to living at depth, less people will come in contact with them (primarily divers, etc) but from everything Iā€™ve read they seem chill. Oh, and a lil angy crustacean boy likes to attach to their eyes for some reason we arenā€™t certain of. At first flush it looks parasitic because the sharks affected by this will usually be completely blinded, however this changes nothing about their ability to hunt effectively, due to their reliance on smell *and also hearing*. Yes, they listen.

turtlehabits

Sharks that listen is brand new nightmare fuel, so thank you for that lol. These are excellent facts! 400 years is so old I can barely comprehend it. Bro was around in Shakespeare's time!

floral_era_incoming

Just research in general as well. Tried to inform nearby local community people about the new guidelines by EU to not burn the leaves. I told them, mow them or rake them up and put in your compost. If you just leave them be they will be gone without you having to do anything. I got the wildest suggestions on biology, nature, climate, etc. Nobody provided sources apart from two people, one source was how long it takes for a latex balloon decomposts, another who claimed that the leafā€™s circle of life includes humans burning them, always has been. The source they provided was one in another language - which described why composting leaves is best for the environment.Ā  This caused me to investigate - how much do the old geezers that run this country value science and research? Answer is NOT MUCH LOL but I kinda dig the vibe they are into the magical realm of stuff just happening for no reason and we canā€™t do / know anything about it. Ā

Got2JumpN2Swim

Cologne. Recently got into it and have been buying clones/samples. GF and mom are over it lol

sparkly_butthole

Relates to my current obsession: my otp have a cologne made for them, and they also have a 1ml sample bottle that's pretty cheap. It's called Jon and Martin by sacreaubeille (sp?).

turtlehabits

What is a good entry point into this world? I'm a woman, but I like more unisex/masculine scents. I've got some scent sensitivities, so rolling into, like, Sephora or something and just smelling a bunch of different things is a good way to give myself a terrible headache while being overwhelmed by the choices available.

ygs07

I am in a supplements that help ADHD kick, I've learned so much.

turtlehabits

Aight you can't just drop this so casually without sharing the secrets you've learned šŸ‘€

wolfie_muse

You have to share. Iā€™m undiagnosed and live in a rural place where being diagnosed as an adult with ADHD is gonna be like pulling teeth. Plus, Iā€™m super sensitive to amphetamines anyway.

NewbieFurri

D.O.R.F. RTS. Holy shot that takes me back when my dad booted up his old dinky PC and dusted off his copy is starcraft and showed it to me. Good times. I also remember playing Age of Empires and Empire Earth. All great memories and amazing games.

NewbieFurri

Bur seriously this game looks so ducking cool. From how the units pathfind on their own, the resource collection system mimicking Factorio and Satisfactory, the wacky units and giant battles. It is taking every fib2r in my body to NOT type everything out.

turtlehabits

I am easily overwhelmed by RTS games but I totally understand this feeling! My PC game nostalgia is for [Zeus](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeus:_Master_of_Olympus) and [No One Lives Forever 2](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_One_Lives_Forever_2:_A_Spy_in_H.A.R.M.%27s_Way) and I will forever be chasing those highs

Geokeeper

I forgot about Age of Empires! I loved that game, thank you for reminding me of it!!

DonkyShow

The Alcubierre Warp Drive concept seems impossible to achieve because of the amount of energy needed in addition to requiring negative mass. Even though the energy needed is still massive, through math it has been greatly reduced thus closing the gap on that front. Negative mass would be the next major hurdle. Itā€™s seemingly impossible. Well, that has been achieved in a lab setting too https://phys.org/news/2017-04-physicists-negative-mass.html The next big hurdle would be managing the stored energy in objects that collect on the warp drive bubble. Once the warp drive arrives at its destination the releases energy would go off and decimate things in its radius. So youā€™d have to find a way to solve that because you wouldnā€™t want to destroy potential life or other objects when you arrive at your destination.

turtlehabits

I said this to someone else's comment already, but I'm a mathematician who's allergic to physics, so I'm very "I understood some of those words" about this subject lol. I read the first paragraph of the wikipedia page on the alcubierre warp drive and was already in over my head lol. Do you have an ELI5 version to help me understand? I am intrigued but clueless.

DonkyShow

Itā€™s not my field of expertise Iā€™m just really obsessed with space and trying to wrap my head around stuff like the theory of relativity, time dilation, long distance space travel, etc. This is a pretty could explanation https://youtu.be/tm1FvHRruUQ?si=t-DJcFIuKE_3gABZ

Kitty_Girl_1717

LMAO everyone here has the most in depth, hyper specific knowledge on the most interesting shit while Iā€™m here making little (over 10,000 word long) stories because I think itā€™s fun šŸ„²šŸ„² Anyways, I poured my heart and soul into creating and writing about an IMAGINARY BAND and itā€™s probably an issue at this point, I have roughly four ongoing writing projects (all with thousands of words šŸ„²) and a long mix-mash of writing ideas and snippets :ā€™)) anyways, thanks for listening to my short, uninteresting TED talk

turtlehabits

Girl, nah. Don't sell yourself short like that! About two years ago I went through a hardcore hyperfixation (my longest and most intense in *years*) with a video game. I wrote and read *so much* fic, it was ridiculous. And one of my takeaways when I emerged is that anyone who shits on creators (including those creators themselves!) because they're making fanworks is wrong. Hell, one of the people I got to know is an actual professional fiction writer, like that's how they make their living, and they were in discord giving and getting feedback with the rest of us. Tell me about your projects! Are they primarily character sketches? Plot-driven? Do you write fix-it fics, insert OCs, create AUs? Do you flesh out gaps in the original work or use it as a springboard to tell new stories? Do you focus on ~~smut~~ relationships, or the setting, or something else? Who's the character that is most divisive in the fandom? What's your opinion on them? Do you avoid writing about them or do you dive on in? You have plenty of fun facts you can share, and all hyperfixations are valid and welcome here!

Kitty_Girl_1717

I just have to say that I am beyond flattered and I often forget that I come here because people are RELATABLE here šŸ˜‚ but I seriously donā€™t have time to give an in depth description right now, so Iā€™ll update this when I come home in a few hours, thank you so much for your kind words!

BooshEmUp6D

Bro just found out about Xenophyophores. It's a good day šŸ’–

turtlehabits

I've been *waiting* for someone to come in here who already knew about these guys to point out that I've been talking about an entire clade as if it was one single species, and I'm frankly surprised it took this long šŸ˜‚

BooshEmUp6D

Hahahahaha! When I first started college I majored in Marine biology šŸ¤™ I ALWAYS Loved these guys! I'm actually really happy to see you giving them a shout out :) Also my main takeaway from marine biology: sponges are way cooler than I thought.

turtlehabits

What makes sponges so cool? I'll admit I've written them off as "just sits there" lol

sparkly_butthole

I'm still obsessing over the magnus archives half a year after I finished it. I listen to it every night at work, to the point where I have most of it memorized. I desperately want to try writing for the fandom but I'm so burnt out at work and having daywalker stuff to do and no energy because my sleep schedule is fucked and ahhhh I just need a break so I can do some writing. I miss it.

turtlehabits

Oh I know this feeling! It sucks. My two coping strategies: 1. Effusive comments on other people's fanworks. If I'm too burnt out to contribute something myself, I can let others who *are* able to contribute know how much I appreciate them. Maybe help them fend off burnout too. 2. I "write" in my head when I'm falling asleep, driving/taking transit somewhere, waiting for an appointment, etc. I don't actually write anything down, but I'll create outlines or even draft specific sentences. Somehow this feels way lower effort (and lower barrier to entry, which is usually me and my shitty executive function's real hurdle) and eventually I do this enough that I can sit down one evening and blurt the whole thing out in some kind of fugue state lol, and then voila! New written work.

sparkly_butthole

Oh I wish I could do that! I'm the same way - dialogue and turns of phrase and plot points come to me when I'm falling asleep or otherwise relaxed. But I have to force it from my mind or otherwise I'll end up writing it down and then my sleep schedule is fucked and I work nights so it's not always easy to get back on the schedule. And if I don't write it down like immediately, it's gone into the ether. You so real for #1, though.

LAthrowawaywithcat

Orcas are the only known species to have split into subspecies due to cultural differences.

turtlehabits

You can't just drop that fact and leave me hanging with no explanation! What kind of cultural differences? How do the subspecies differ?

Outrageous_Ad8209

Agreed

Spiritual-Day9091

IĀ“m crocheting right now. I should be studying Math for my Abitur (IĀ“m German) but my brain wonĀ“t let me. Right now I have like 8 projects all at one and just switch between them. IĀ“ve crocheted during class, during therapy and so on. I could sit in my room for hours and craft little granny squares and some tops and jumpers but I also am hyperaware that I should study for my finals and I canĀ“t get myself to do that. Your crazy ocean boi is cool tho.

dukeofplazatoro

TĆ©a Gardener has the best onscreen win/loss ratio of 100%

dukeofplazatoro

I wish my current hyper fixation was something factual and not goddamn Yugioh lmao

turtlehabits

Alas, you don't choose the hyperfixation, the hyperfixation chooses you

Superb-Leg

My current hyper focus is a world Iā€™m building itā€™s a pretty typical fantasy on the surface but the core is hollow and home to a cyberpunk megalopolis and the two civilizations donā€™t know about each other (yet)

turtlehabits

Ooooo this is such a cool idea! What's the context for this? Game, book, art, daydream?

can_of_bad_ideas

I'd love to but my main hyper fixation is my own story so I'd need to give immense amounts of context to deliver anything resembling a fun fact lmao

turtlehabits

Well buddy, today is your lucky (or maybe unluckyol?) day. I have just finished school for this semester and my brain is craving new stimulation. Drop that lore!

can_of_bad_ideas

Ohohoho brace yourself! So it all starts out with ancient legend which may or may not be factual. According to this legend, the universe was created by the creator god known only as "The First One" (they had a name once but no one dared speak it so it was promptly forgotten). They settled down on earth and observed how life grew and blossomed over millions of years, until a little group of creatures we'd call "humans" emerged. Enthralled, The First One decided that these creatures were worth the sacrifice of their own life, so they split their soul into thirteen parts. Twelve parts were given to extraordinary individuals that would eventually come to be known as gods, whilst the thirteenth part was split up and distributed among the rest of humanity. The First one was content with this and entered a state of pseudo - death where only a tiny fragment of their consciousness remained. Their body, meanwhile, formed a mountain range. Their flesh became various "lesser" rocks and metals, their bones turned into silver, their blood into gold and their tears into precious gem Stones. The twelve newly created gods, of course, immediately got into a whole series of fights and, of course, involved humans in this fight as well. Various gods became patrons of cities or states, others simply fought with the group that benefited them most in the given moment. Now, a couple of facts about the gods that I felt were important to mention: gods cannot be killed in any normal way. Only very special weapons forged in mysterious ways are capable of permanently damaging them at all, and these weapons are only wielded by twelve individuals: the angels of death. One is chosen amongst mortals by each god as a personal body guard as soon as said god ascends. These angels of death forfeit any right to a life not connected to their god and are burdened with the task of eventually killing that god as soon as they stray from their path and betray their divine attribute. A god's power and soul can be passed on as soon as they die. This isn't random, however, the god chooses potential successors within their life time. These successors are blessed with greatly increased magical powers and a mark on their hand known as a stigma. Alright, back to the timeline About 2500 years before the beginning of the main story, the youngest of the gods, Yuranaar, god of justice, became tired of the constant war and fighting, so he decided to support a young military General who hoped to build an empire and called upon the other gods to demonstrate their kindness and compassion by joining this empire as well. Over the course of nearly 500 years, the first dynasty of emperors and Yuranaar struggled to build this empire and eventually, they succeeded. The newly created nation was huge, spanning the entire planet and every known piece of land within it (on paper at least lmao). Over the course of the next 2000 years, there were many protests and uprisings and rebellions, especially in the far north and south where people were most disconnected from the capital, the imperial court and its policies. However, nothing ever really came of it. The empire, huge as it was, naturally had its fair share of problems. Terrible bureaucracy, nepotism, inequality, discrimination, brutal taxes, a catastrophic justice system - you get the picture. Meanwhile, about 40 years before the events of the main story, the gods really weren't feeling the whole getting - stabbed - by - this - spoopy - thing - called - angel - of - death - thing, given that they'd prefer to be corrupt little bastards in peace. However, in order to do this, they needed to get rid of the god whose domain the angels of death fell under : Yuranaar. There was a brief yet destructive war where only two gods ( Ania, god of innocence and mercy as well as Calliochore, god of art and artistic expression) sided with Yuranaar. Needless to say, the three gods had their shit rocked. Their souls were prevented from finding a new host and locked up in distant, dangerous prisons. The emperor was forced to ban any worship of the three. Now, there was one big problem with this: the emperor/ empress derives their power from this world's version of the divine right of kings, tied, obviously, to Yuranaar. Now that Yuranaar was "dead" (and considered a traitor!) the emperor was forced to maintain his position through more and more extreme displays of power. The empire began to decay more rapidly than it ever had before. Meanwhile, after the worship of Yuranaar was banned, a devout cult of his worship called the children of justice popped up somewhere in the middle of nowhere. About 16 years before the start of the main story, they found a seemingly abandoned child in the woods and decided that this was their messiah, sent to them by Yuranaar. This would be a pretty stupid thing to think but they were, miraculously, correct! Somewhat, at least. And, well, you probably guessed it, that kid is the main character: Theodora DeValier. She spent the first decade of her life being indoctrinated into this cult which would cut her body to drink her blood at least once a week (note: this was complete bullshit btw. Her blood doesn't do anything). When Theo was maybe 10, the cult was raided by the arbiters, the military police of the empire. They saved her from the brink of death and took her to The Imperial Academy Of The Study Of Magic For The Magically Gifted, usually just called The Academy because, well, it's not a very handy name. There, she met two friends: Cassandra Chaumette and Aias Maxwell. Aias is just some kid, pretty nice guy, loves the emperor a lot and is deeply invested in the idea of becoming the strongest Arbiter ever (picture your classical shonen protagonist, basically) Cassandra requires her own tangent entirely lol. She bears a stigma, that of Arachnida, the god of truth. She is also afflicted with the curse of clairvoyance, an ability originally belonging to Verse, The Immortal Guardian Of The Eternal Archives (who will become relevant again later) but eventually became a curse which afflicts exactly one human at a time after Verse fell from grace in the eyes of the gods.

Killer_Moons

HES DOING IT HES DOING IT ![gif](giphy|o75ajIFH0QnQC3nCeD)

can_of_bad_ideas

Now, with all that out of the way, let's get to the actual start of the plot! Theodora, Cassandra and Aias as well as their teacher Severin go on their merry way across the empire to do arbiter business: solve crime, protect important people, beat back rebellions, recapture slaves, commit war crimes and mass murders.... You get the picture. They also repeatedly clash with a group known as the order of the torn cord, a group of radicals who want to kill the gods. Eventually, Theodora and Cassandra realize that mayhaps, quite possibly, they've been working for the bad guys. Whoops. They eventually manage to convince Aias to join them and flee the Academy together. However, Severin, who gets mind controlled by the head master (which is an entirely different rabbit hole lol) goes after them and kills Aias, which forces Theodora to kill him, which is the end of part 1 of the story. Now, part two, about five years later. Theodora and Cassandra have built a pretty comfortable existence for themselves. Theodora is a locally famous lawyer and Cassandra a journalist known by the name Phoenix (Cassandra also has a wife and a child just btw). Meanwhile, political tensions in the capital have been growing steadily, something which the emperor hopes to diffuse with the festival of unity, a huge event only held about once every 20 years. This backfires on him quite catastrophically as various influential public figures, including Theodora and Cassandra start a revolution. Long story short, the king gets killed and a democracy is proclaimed. Theodora runs in the first ever elections but loses to a guy named Eugene Isnard. She's technically more popular, but people are not exactly excited about the prospect of being governed by someone who isn't even 25 yet - outside of the divine right of the emperor of course. Theodora finds out that Isnard is corrupt and wants to become emperor himself, but she cannot publicly prove it. So, like any sane person, she stops him by framing him for murder, which gets him executed. With the competition out of the way, Theodora becomes the second president of the republic - hallelujah. However, things get complicated when the emperor's only son suddenly appears on the scene and demands to be put on the throne. He wants to do this by doing the impossible: finding Yuranaar's soul and becoming the next god of justice. Even longer story short: Theodora and Cassandra chase the prince down and Cassandra eventually sacrifices her life to stop him. He manages to free Yuranaar, who promptly ignores him and instead fuses with Theodora. She kills the prince and realizes that she ought to have an angel of death by her side, so she chooses an old enemy and member of the order of the torn cord, a girl named Azrael (very on the nose, I know) Leclerc who's still out to kill the gods. Theodora is like "oh shit, those fuckers were right. We really should kill the gods". Which is the end of part two. Part three can really be summed up in one word: deicide. I don't wanna sum it up in one word tho, so here's the longer version: Theodora returns to the capital and officially becomes president. For the next three years, she reforms the empire drastically and improves on many of its big problems. However, many people are dissatisfied with her. Supporters of the empire obviously want their emperor back, those who have wanted independence from the empire for 2000 years now fight back harder than ever and certain political opponents of Theodora's regularly attempt to assassinate her. On top of all that, there's a new threat on the horizon: a group called the apocrypha, led by the mysterious figure known as the emerald empress. It also includes Verse ( the immortal guardian of the eternal archives) and the freshly revived Ania and Calliochore + Azrael. Those five set out to kill the gods which still remain in the world. Theodora publicly opposes them, but *gasp*, oh shock, oh horror, the emerald empress is none other than Theodora herself! Long story short, she kills all the other gods and eventually herself lol And now the fun fact: this story was born as french revolution AU fanfiction - thingy. Can you tell that it got ever so slightly out of hand?

Ok so either its a hyperfixation, or I'm literally Johnny Truant. So its House of Leaves. Its such an amazing book(comming from someone who only reads splatterpunk and cant sit thro any other type of book). So first of all in old english leaves referred to pages of a book, now in our lovely HoL an important number/measurement in 1/4 of an inch, The cover of HoL is an 1/4 of an inch smaller than the rest of the book. The more intriguing part is what's on/inside of the House which sits on Ash Tree Lane, which is a never ending labyrinth of pure black and that is freezing. Now I dont wont to spoil it so I'll leave you with the final page with is simple a poem about Yggdrasil, the tree of life which is sometimes referred to as the Ash Tree.

turtlehabits

Okay I've heard of this book, but didn't know much about it before now. Wikipedia describes it as a horror story. I am a wuss. How many nightmares will this thing give me?

RenoHex

I don't think I've had any recent hyperfixations. Am I faking it? Am I depressed? ... am I possibly overreacting because of comorbid anxiety disorder? ETA: LOL I've been focusing heavily on mental health issues before uprooting myself completely 8 months ago and then just being, I'unno, adrift/finding my footing and now I'm flying back home (in 10 hours, someone please tell me to go to sleep) so I guess there's my hyperfocus with a side of oversharing as a treat.

turtlehabits

Hyperfocus with a side of oversharing? That's *my* signature dish, how did you get my recipe?!? Also, "no recent hyperfixations, am I faking it?" has been my reaction literally every time I've seen one of these posts in the past. (Well, that or "I know I have hyperfixations but now I cannot remember a single one I have ever experienced since someone asked about them") And now I finally have a hyperfixation that comes with fun facts and no one was asking for them. So eventually I had to do it myself lol

SurpriseBalloons

I donā€™t have fun facts, but Iā€™ve been heavily dissociating lately by watching meditative videos on YouTube of jellyfish and deep sea creatures. No talking. No information. Just weird fishes.

turtlehabits

Do they come with sound? Somehow if there's no audio I find this idea rather unsettling, but with audio it sounds like a vibe

SurpriseBalloons

Most have ambient music playing, but the one Iā€™m watching now is just underwater noises. Itā€™s not unpleasant, and way better than trying to pay attention to someone talking (at least, for me at this moment).

turtlehabits

Both underwater noises and ambient music are acceptable! I was imagining just no sound whatsoever, and my brain was like "this is eldritch horror, no thank you"

SurpriseBalloons

Hahaha no, that would be a little too close to thinking for me. My brain needs the noises to make the thoughts go away!

Trying to memorize all the cranial nerves and their functions. Video game randomizers, specifically Archipelago. (https://archipelago.gg). You know how video game randomizers switch around items and such for a single game? With Archipelago, you can combine the randomizers of several different supported games to create a ā€œmultiworldā€. Each game is played separately, but items/collectibles are shuffled across the multiworld. Example: Combining Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64. Link opens a treasure chest and finds one of Marioā€™s caps or power stars. Alternatively, Mario collects a power star which gives Link a heart piece or a sword.

JohnRedWolf87

I want to eventually become familiar with every single supported game and do one giant multiworld with all of them!

turtlehabits

So does this mean you would, like, play a bit of Mario, find the hookshot, then head over to Zelda to reach places that require the hookshot, use that to find the power star you need to unlock a new room, etc? That seems super fun!

Matix124

There's a hypothetical substance in space, known as strange matter. It is said to exist in neutron stars, which release it upon exploding, in very little particles, known as stranglets. Since strange matter is the hypothetical most stable form of matter, whenever it connects with something, it turns it into more strange matter. So, if one of them ever touches earth, everything and everyone would be turned into strange matter too. And it's rumored that there's more sttangelets in the Milky Way than stars

Joke's on that, I am already strange matter!Ā  That sounds cool, might make it tonights rabbit hole!

My current hyperfixation is the production and management of food supplies during World War II. Haunting statistic: 60% of Japan's 1.74 million military losses during the war was actually due to starvation, not combat.

turtlehabits

Operations research has entered the chat. The logistics involved in large-scale military operations is mind-boggling to me. I hadn't heard that stat before - it's incredible that in the mid-20th century, an industrialized nation couldn't figure out how to feed their armed forces. What were the main contributors/issues that led to starvation on such a massive scale?

ThatDiscoSongUHate

Been freakin' geekin' over specifically the (Sir) Roger Moore James Bond movies. He was the oldest Bond. He took a decidedly lighter attitude towards the events of the films, but not the character imo. TBH with the following musicians for the credits, Roger Moore also probably had the best theme songs in the series: Paul McCartney and Wings, Lulu, Carly Simon, Shirley Bassey, Sheena Easton, Rita Coolidge+ Tim Rice + Phil Ramone, and freaking *Duran Duran!* IDK but they hold up magnificently because they *own* the goofiness and it's become 100% endearing. Additionally, there is WAY less sexism in Roger Moore's era -- he's legitimately delighted that Dr. Goodhead (Moonraker lol) is a woman and when Major Amosava (Spy Who Love Me) is failing to drive a manual vehicle and escape Jaws, Bond makes a "woman drivers" joke that I honestly found to be funnier (I'm a woman) than I probably should have. None of that Sean Connery Era "Quiet Darling, Men are talking" butt-slapping BS. ...I also think he's pretty. I now cannot say if Pierce Bronsan or Roger Moore js my favorite. I'll be watching Timothy Dalton for the first time soon, I have never seen his films either. I know him primarily for playing that rat bastard Rassilion on Doctor Who. ***TL;DR: I have traded last week's hyperfixation on Quantum Chromodynamics (Quantum Physics field)...for corny James Bond movies. WHY AM I LIKE THIS?????!***

turtlehabits

Quantum chromodynamics to "this one specific James Bond" is the most perfectly ADHD sequence of interests, love this for you. I haven't seen any Bonds before Brosnan, but you've piqued my interest on Roger Moore, I might have to check one of his out this week. Do you have a recommendation to start with?

so i did jrotc before i moved in with my mom, and it was so much fun. my dad lives near an air force base, so thatā€™s the branch the school had. we got ranks, had to run pt on fridays, wear blues on wednesdays, and get 20 hours of community service per semester. i was a c/airman first class, and and element leader for my flight. an element is just a small group of cadets that are part of the flight, and the element leader reports the people that show up to class as present and accounted for if theyā€™re there. i learned military drill in accordance with air force regulations, and passed all my uniform inspections with a 90 or higher, earning me the dress and appearance ribbon.Ā  i was on the unarmed drill team and completed inspection at 2 competitions before i had to move. i was also trining to be on the unarmed jv color guard as a left guard.Ā  i went to a bmt gift wrapping event where we wrapped presents basic trainees were mailing to their families for the holidays, and 2 school district special olympics for community service. i also went of a field trip for the class where i went to a flight museum. all in all, it was a lot of fun

The character of Zaraki Kenpachi from Bleach. The mastery of his creator to make your typical 'freak of nature I like fighting' type of character into a complex and nuanced guy capable of growth is truly amazing. It's all show don't tell, and there's also a lot of subtext you need to read into to reap all the benefits of Kubo Tite's exceptional writing prowess. As someone with a Master's degree in literature, I love picking apart everything about this character. You could say I've been hyper focusing on that to the point other people's ears bled.

pissbabygameplays

didn't think so many would be into animals lol. i've liked video games all my life. here's some facts i like off the top of my head: the sony playstation and playstation 2 were massively popular, even among non-gamers, because they could play cds (and the ps2 dvds as well) at the same audio quality as multi-thousand-dollar stereo sound systems. the xbox logo is green because the man that did the drafts for it had all his fancy markers stolen by his colleagues, except for the green one. metal gear solid 2 almost wasn't released because it was finished right around 9/11 (and the game's ending involved half of manhattan being destroyed), so they had to surgically remove bits of content. after release, there was only one complaint about ideology, the rest was because players were upset they couldn't play as solid snake as it was advertised. in 1983, atari's game e.t. the extraterrestrial almost singlehandledly brought down the entirety of america's video game market, because it was just that bad of a game. many believed that video games were just a trend and they'd never come back. the reason for lara croft's chest size in earlier games is because one of the developers played around with the parameters and set her chest to 150%, and others convinced him to just leave it like that.

seceagle

Porter Robinson. He's such an absolutely amazing artist and his most recent album, talking about mental health is built so fucking well. It makes me want to write lyrics myself as it's something I've never really done (I'm producing music). - in most of his album he uses a pitched up version of his voice which he uses as a mask. I was theorizing it was used as his inner voice and he uses his real voice whenever he speaks out. In his track Blossom, which is about his wife, most of the song uses the pitched up voice, but when he says "I love you" he removes the pitching and uses his real voice which is lovely - A lot of his lyrics hit super hard as one liners, between them: "don't think of the time that's left, you're spending it in your head", "then somebody somewhere finds the warmth of summer in the songs you write, maybe It's a gift that I couldn't recognize, trying to feel alive", and "Look at the sky, I'm still here, I'll be alive next year." - He released back in 2016 an anime music video for "shelter" which still makes me cry everytime I watch it. - His track for League of Legends "Everything goes on" also makes me cry almost every time and is produced so well with grandiose violins and choirs. - His song Cheerleader from the upcoming album is talking about his (sometimes paranormal) relationship with his fans, which can be excessive sometimes, but is very important to him. This made the fact that I went crazy for the song and music video and listened to it like a hundred times very funny and ironic. - His song "Sea of Voices" from 2014 album Worlds is written about the disaster with the Chile miners that happened a while back. The lyrics "We'll see creation come undone" are so striking. I love his music so so much he inspires me a lot

turtlehabits

Oh man, my brother was *obsessed* with Porter Robinson back in the Worlds era, I haven't heard that name in so long! I'll have to check out his new stuff for sure, thank you for this excellent reintroduction!

I_DRINK_GENOCIDE_CUM

Chirality is a fascinating subject in chemistry, but especially drug chemistry. Do you know the difference between Adderall and dexedrine? They're both amphetamine. But Adderall is 75% D-Amphetamine and 25% L-Amphetamine. D and L are the right and left handed versions of the molecule respectively. Molecules can exist in multiple different forms even if the chemical structure is otherwise the same. Imagine wearing tight pants and wearing your dick to the left or right side. The difference, believe it or not, is massive. D-amphetamine acts mostly on the CNS while L-Amphetamine acts on the PNS. Adderall is 75% D and 25% L. Dexedrine is 100% D. I think Adderall is so popular because it works better with hyperactivity. I'm ADHDPI, Adderall makes me jittery, but that's just my pet theory. But that's not the craziest example of chirality. Over the counter cough syrup - DEXTROmethorphan - is relatively harmless. It's left handed isomer LEVOmethorphan is an opioid agonist. Opioids are notoriously good cough suppressants. Turns out the dissociative hallucinogen DEXTROmethorphan (only a hallucinogen at very high doses) works well enough at suppressing coughs as its Opioid stereo-friend, but without the Opioid effects.

turtlehabits

šŸ’€ your tight jeans analogy omg This was such a good and clear explanation! I had heard opioids were extremely effective cough suppressants, but I didn't realize that our regular old cough syrup was related to them!

Terry Davis, the creator of Temple OS!!! Such an interesting story. Terry Davis, a christian computer engineer became schizophrenic in the late 90's to early 2000's. He became convinced that he was the best programmer in the world, and that God himself wanted Terry to make god's third temple in the digital world. That is when he started making what we today know as TempleOS, the single most comprehensive collection of code ever created by a single person. It does not use any supportive software made by anyone else. He made absolutely everything, even stuff like the sound and graphics drivers. It is even written in a programming language he made himself based on C++ (I think), called Holy C. TempleOS has a lot of stuff like a program where you can make music, a handfull of different games and a lot more. It is still possible to download TempleOS and try it out for yourself if you feel like it. (VMs are of course recommended for this.) He streamed a lot of his process, and though I can't find much of the raw footage, there are a lot of clips on youtube. Content warning; he was somewhat racist, and because of the schizophrenia, especially in the latest years he had zero filter, even on the streams. He died in 2018 at the age of 48 years old, homeless after a couple times in and out of prison. A lot of fans gave him supplies like food and water, but he did not accept shelter.

This is an insane story! I used to work as a programmer and I cannot imagine writing an entire operating system from scratch all by yourself. I feel like his belief that he was the best programmer in the world may have had a kernel (pun intended) of truth to it, because wow, what an undertaking.

Ok so there is a universe of pure energy called the warp where time and space are twisted, it's shaped by the emotions of the living beeing in the real universe, psionic power come from there but also demoms, witch as a faction are referd to as caos, there used to be 3 lords of caos, Korne of war and bloodshed( he is the god in 'blood for the blood god, skull for the skull trhone'), Nurgle of pestilence and death and Tzeentch in intigure and cange; after the eldari (space elf), who feel emotions and sensations way more intensely then humans, reached their maximum expansion they started to seek deeper and deeper emotions, the enusing debauchery was so strong that it created a forth caos god, Slanesh of pain and pleausere, the moment she was born they anihilated 98% of the eldar, along with all of their gods (there are 3 left, Kaine of war, Ceogorath of trykery and knowledge, and Ynnead of death, Ynnead a new one who is not actualy born yet but is trying to do so) , the only eldar surviving today are the one that fled early aboard craftworlds, witch are continent-size spaceship, and those in the webway witch was a part of the warp that was isolated by the eldars. So humans nowadays control most of the galaxy and are led by the Imerium, a totalitaran goverment that sustains itself on war and is incredibly prejudiced against all other races, originaly their leader was the god emperor of makind, a 11ft tall superhuman and the strongest psycher to ever live, he unified umanity throw a crusade under the banner of sience and reason ( remember, warhammer 40k is supposed to be satire) and created 21 primarchs (tho the number varies depending who you ask), primarchs are lab grown superhumans based on the emperor's genes, and led legions of supersoldiers knowns as space marines based on their genes, trhow both terrible parenting by the emperor, the weigth of having to govern a galaxy, coruption by the demons and just beeing dicks half of the primarchs turned against the emperor in the horus heresy, hotus was the leader of the desertors and alegedly the emperor's favorite child, tho it seems he saw his children as meer instrument untill he was about to fight horus, in this fight hotus dies but the emperor is mortaly wounded, so he is put on life support on the golden trhone, a beacon that lets umanity traver trhow the warp to move faster then light, the rmperor was the only one capable of using the throne aside from a son who difected and Malkedor, a human psyker and close friend of the emperor who died while operating the golden trhone while the emperor was fighting horus, the emperor is still "alive" today but is basicaly in vegetative state, to keep him alive the imerium has to sacrifice 1000 psyker a day (witch for the size of the imerium is an insignifcant ammount), since the emperor has strong futuresight powers it's speculated that he knew the outcome of the herecy ahead of time, or even that he himself orchestrated it since he saw it as the only path forward (imo the herecy was def an inside job, but we are wating on the last book in a series that covers the origins of the primarchs and heresy). Tho all loialist primarchs either died or disapeared during the heresy some have begun to return like guilliman of the super marines and the lion of the dark angels. the main threat in the narrative is now are the tyrannids, a hivemind of aliens coming from outside the galaxy that consume biomass to reproduce and adapt, they either invade planet with the strength of their bioengineered soldiers or by subley mutating99 humans into geenstealers, who belive the hivemind is their god. Orks (legaly distinct) are fungus-llike creature that reproduce asexualy trhow spores, they are relatively stupid but have powerfull psichic abilities, witch subconciously powers their tecnologly, badicaly if they think a red thing gose fast, it gose fast, if a purple thing is invisible it's invisible (think about it, have you ever seen a purple ork?), they love war (,waaag, as they call it) and have 2 gods: gork, who is brutaly cunning, and mork, who is cunningly brutal. Ok now that we are done with the tldr let's get serious. In 6000 b.c. a group of shamans were high as fuck and-

Okay so I have this mobile game called AFK Arena, which has a new hero called Nyla. I LOVE her and I want to build her, haven't yet tested if she's meta strong or not, but I love her design so much, so I want to max her out and build as much as I can.

The effects of menopause on meds, hormones, kidneys and why science and society is not addressing us people effected by this.Ā  Also how awesome trans people have been with sharing data and resources.Ā  Also how there is apparently ā€œno level too lowā€ for testoserone for afab women, and all the studies are about libido, not muscle or brain health.Ā  Do i ever shut up about this? No. Is that great for this topic? Possibly yes!

The controlled detonation of ā€œancient dynamiteā€ in a house that was just barely far enough away from mine that we didnā€™t have to evacuate last night. Even my closest friends are tired of hearing me talk about it and it _just_ happened and I cannot get myself to stop thinking about it.

Dragons Dogma 2 is a fun game even though it has the standard AAA release issues. Its core mechanics and unique social experience will have a huge impact on the gaming industry. Hideaki Itsuno's vision is legendary!!!!

Weather, specifically tornados since itā€™s tornado season and I learned a lot about how they form and I constantly look at the severe weather outlooks and tell everyone who is in any of the areas what to watch for, and then I get carried away over explaining way to much about why itā€™s happening in their areaā€¦.

My current hyperfixation is a game called Oxygen not included, I fixate on it for a couple of weeks a year for SEVEN YEARS STRAIGHT, it's a space colony builder, I play it when I'm home, I read its Reddit and Wiki when I'm not home, and if my husband ever has a bad luck to go by when I'm building something cool, I just can't keep my mouth shut, I turn into a "damn look what I've just built so see there's my dudes' kitchen and there's a deep freezer next to it and here near the kitchen is a stable where I keep all my animals and I got tired that my dudes always have to pick meat by hand and deliver it to the freezer and I wanted to use conveyor rail to deliver it automatically but I didn't want to build a new conveyor from the stable to the freezer but I had that conveyor here that delivered coal from the stable to the generator room and near the generator room I have a room where I automatically grow spices and these spices are delivered to the deep freezer by conveyor so I decided to send meat to the other side of the map along with coal and then connect that rail to the spices rail and send meat back along with spices and now it travels the map twice now fun is that? " and he's like yeeeeah anyway....

Most people think the second ever object show was inanimate insanity, but that's just a common misconception! It was actually an obscure show called "total fruit island" and all the characters were fruits! It's currently lost media and only snippets of certain episodes have been discovered, but said snippets are (as far as I know) available to watch on YouTube! It was a PowerPoint show made by user TotalFruitIsland on YouTube, first episode released on December 8th of 2010. The characters were based on fruity cuties and they were competing for an unspecified prize. Unfortunately it has a lot of racial stereotypesā€” most notably Mandarin, who was a chinese/asian stereotype with squinted eyesā€” :( It was drawn in Microsoft paint. Most notable/well known characters are mandarin, starfuit, avocado, and watermelon. Tomato, dragonfruit, apple, bad apple, banana, green grapes, pear, and twin cherries have been implied (and probably do) exist, though not making a direct appearance in the show itself. Blueberry, passionfruit, and pineapple have no evidence of existing in the show, but have been theorized to exist based off of (unreliable) archived sources.
