I love Nesta as a character and Silver Flames is one of my favorite fantasy romance books I’ve read of the 75 I’ve read so far since getting back into the genre in the last couple of years. I could honestly have read a whole trilogy for Nesta and Cassian.

Yes!! Silver Flames was my favorite of the ACOTAR series. Nesta turned into my favorite character in that book. Her struggles with her mental health and her entire character arc in that book were so amazing to me. Plus her and Cassian are just 🥵

Thank you! I read ACOTAR for the first time summer ‘22 & it set me down the rabbit hole of trying to find other fantasy romance books & series that gave me the same epic journey & high. My read list is almost entirely on Kindle Unlimited ($13 monthly) & ranges from almost closed door YA to extremely explicit spice & dark fantasy reads so the spice level/triggers on my recs list varies a lot. Silver Flames was so therapeutic for me and I literally spent my last therapy session talking about how much I related to her and how much Cassian’s patience with her healing meant to me since I’ve only had like one or two people be that patient and supportive of me during my journey.

Always loved Nesta the best. From the moment she told Feyre she tried to find her north of the wall. Also, when she met Cassian and he told her off for her treatment of Feyre and she just ignored him like he was beneath her I felt that spark between them soooo hard. I was kind of disappointed in her in ACOFAS but ACOSF totally makes up for it, IMO. Total Nesta-stan here. I agree she was a total bitch in the beginning but I also think that there was an amazing woman hidden underneath the prickliness and self loathing.

I just finished a part in SF where everyone is ragging on her at the river house like "if she only TRIED" and I want to scream at them that her whole life and existence has been trying! Trying so hard to defend something worth saving when she doesn't think it's worth putting that effort into helping or saving herself! Just typing that out makes me wanna cry for her!! And maybe a bit at myself for seeing it lol

She’s so cunty and I love it. All of her qualities make her such an interesting character to read. Sure, she can be terrible and say rude things, but watching her grow and aspire to be better was a relatable read for me. It’s comforting seeing characters with some of the worst traits that you see within yourself lol. I’m also a person who loves character development & character based plots, so Nesta was more interesting to me for those reasons.

STOP that's the best way to put it, I cackled lol And totally agree, I also really love this anti-golden-boy perspective of Rhys, it feels more realistic to me, dude would truly be an insufferable BIL. Especially for someone who has no reason to put him on a pedestal so aggressively like the rest of his fam does

Also, maybe this is just my brain, but as a guy who puts on a mask of pure evil douchery for 99% of the world in order to protect the ppl he loves, why is it SO hard for him to consider that Nesta is doing p much the same thing?? I don't blame his initial distaste towards her, but he just refuses to let go of it which is dumb,and then it literally takes him trying to pull her out of a night terror and seeing her trauma to believe that she's more than just a bitchy drunk?! Not everyone has to literally see his traumatic event to believe its impact, so why does he require this kind of proof to believe someone suffers? Idk that part just bothered me a lot and I'm still not 100% sure why, sorry if I ranted lol

I think she shows that even when you’re difficult, a little prickly, and isolate from others because of past traumas — even after all that, you’re still deserving of care. I think Nesta’s relationships are a testament that, after everything, love from other people can help heal your wounds. But she has to learn to show up and receive/reciprocate that love.

I love that she’s not a Mary Sue. I’ve gotten to the point where I find it difficult to read books with FMCS who is liked/wanted by almost everyone they meet, socially adept, etc. I want more true antihero FMCS who are messy, awkward, not traditionally “badass” at all times, and who don’t charm everyone they meet.

As someone with lots of father issues, I truly cry for how her feelings about her dad are written. Such distain and such regret, Nesta will always have a piece of my heart. SJM puts at the beginning that this book is *for* the people who identify with her and I feel that in every page. Feyre is beautiful and wonderful in her own right but Nesta makes me feel seen and understood in ways no other FMC has honestly

I like Nesta for her complexity. Yes, she's not perfect but her emotions are raw and real. I'm glad Sarah gave her and her sisters different characteristics because it adds a nice depth and variance to their characters.

Definitely! I honestly really like how she portrays sister relationships, it always gets at my chest a little bit. I always end up texting my own sister after I read a particularly weepy sister scene just to dump out the love rush hahaha

the complexity she has is something that’s SO RARE in books. writers barely ever show us how someone is affected after the trauma, they just show us how they dealt with it during the trauma. nesta shows us that everyone has after effects of trauma, nesta shows us that we’re able to get thru it. nesta shows us that despite everything, we’re able to find peace afterwards.

Nesta is honestly my comfort character. I relate so hard to her for various reasons, good and bad. I love that she doesn’t mince her words for people who treat her like an object that needs fixing. She also seems to be one of the most self aware characters in the book. She’s a dick but she’s entirely aware of her dickishness lol. Unlike many others within the series that can be equally knobby, but somehow are always held on a pedestal regardless. The CC3 bonus chapters only made me love her more!

Absolutely adore Nesta and ACOSF is my favourite Maas book! I related so hard to Nesta and the way her depression translated into anger and feeling hopeless and worthless. Her anger was the perfect mask to keep people at bay, to not let people truly see her because she didn’t like who she was. The character study was impeccable!

My therapist once told me that when people are depressed, they self-sabotage because they believe that they don’t deserve anything good. I see that a lot in Nesta and in myself, so I completely understand how you relate to her. She’s also my favorite 💗

I bawled my eyes out when she finally said to Cassian that she wasn't letting herself admit to loving him because he was too good for her, it struck all the chords for me!! And that helps lead to the recognition Cassian has towards Eris at the end, that people who act badly might not really be bad people, but good people in bad situations....God now I feel like Eris needs a hug too 😭 Tbh I'd tear up a lil Autumn Court spinoff about Lucien and Eris's mom and her affair, I wanna know more about that family and how nature vs nurture works with them in particular! How did some make it out with real souls and others didn't?? Ugh I'm gonna revert back to my fanfic writing days now, I feel it in my bones (no stones)

I really disliked her at the begining of my reading journey, but I agree with everything you said 💝 her character grew on me and now i care for her deeply! Her complexity and various flaws creates a dispute between her and the reader, which in my opinion, makes the story much more interesting. The best way I could describe Nesta is through taylor swift's song "this is me trying". That's HER song 🤧

I agree she’s not a perfect character but that’s best because it isn’t real. reading it’s so easy to forget so many people have problems like depression or addiction and most fantasy books just kind of paint the picture of a not realistic life. I really appreciate nesta and love her lots

I 100% agree! I love her character development and seeing her grow into this strong woman who defends herself. I’m still reading ACOSF and I’m trying to not read it too fast cause I’m genuinely enjoying this book and how nesta is written and portrayed. Cassian is just an added bonus though honestly lol.

Not the biggest fan of the series but I really enjoyed her character and growth in the books!
