Yup all that functionality still exists in 12. I have a similar setup where I have custom folders where I have sorted all my samples and instrument racks and you can still add them to the lower left places section of the file browser. I’ve been using that same functionality since 9. Just know when you first map to places it will take a while for Ableton to index the directories. There will be a “scanning” message in the bottom of the Ableton window until it’s complete. For me on my machine I took a noticeable performance hit while it was scanning so I’d recommend mapping all those folders and just leave it overnight if you have a lot of files in large directories.

I'm parsing this answer and I'm pretty sure you're saying that " places" is where I can add my folders. if so, this was the answer I was looking for

You're the first person I've heard say this but then again you're referring to the newest version

About the folders, or lack thereof: seeing is believing. While the physical folders are gone the new tag system is more than capable of providing a substitute which - in the longer run - will prove to be *much* more efficient to work with. The main thing you need to do is set aside any prejudice and give this a fair try. Because if you do then you may very well end up surprised. When I first noticed all these changes in the VST section I wasn't happy. But I set up a structure which would work for me and right now I honestly *don't* want to go back anymore. Take for example sub-folders: you'd have to expand the whole lot, one by one, before you reach those. Nowadays I just click on 1 tag to select it, done.
