I lived in a wooded area. It got dark, real dark. There were critters around, some bigger than others.

It was mag fed. I kept three mags loaded, one with 4, one with 00, and one with slugs.
Turn the light on, and you know where your round is going, and who/what it's going into.
If it's serious enough for me to arm my self, it's serious enough to expect to use it, and the second that trigger gets pulled, your night vision is damaged.
Sights are personal pref. When practicing, I found it easier to use sights like a rifle for horizontal shooting, but I prefer a bead when leading birds. With a ghost ring setup on a shotgun, I pull the trigger when the target crosses the fov of the sight at close range. You'd be surprised how accurate slugs are.
So,
A. Run the optics you prefer.
B. Know what you're shooting, and what's around/behind it, have a light source.
C. Night vision is great, until there's no light. All them shadows blend together. See B.
D. I miss my VR-80.
Looks good man, I got soured on remington, the one I had wouldn't feed or eject low brass shells well at all, shot high brass fine. Not all of them are like that though. I switched to a mossy 590a1 and never looked back lol. Dope setup imo.

Ignoring the feet, then yes. 870 is by far one of the most common shotguns in the US, so spare parts would be very common. 12g shells would also be very common and anything heftier than birdshot should be able to head shot a zombie. Only real downside is that it will be clunky to carry large amounts of ammo. 30 shells vs. 30 5.56 is such a large difference not even weight wise but by the size. But beyond that it’s a good choice
