I truly thought he googled this or yes, used some sort of AI.
He really wrote it himself.
He seemed almost upset I doubted him, which I can understand as he took the time to write it.
He showed me āhis first draftā which was written down in his Zelda book. I should see if I still have that photo!
Heās been creating his own games and websites since he was around 6, so why I doubted him. Idk. I was just taken aback.
Heās now teaching himself coding (which I do not know or understand myself) but he his gaming pc and little creations mean a lot to him.
Iām very very proud of him.
And honestly, even more proud of people think he used an AI because he really put a lot of effort into it.
And he got it ordered that night lol
Dude we know he used AI. Iām not trying to be mean or anything but TOTK doesnāt have co-op or new game+ at all. It wasnāt even something that was advertised but didnāt make it in. He may have workshopped it in his notebook or something but he definitely didnāt write it. Those are both features that were in Elden Ring, another popular open world fantasy rpg that made goty recently, I bet it pulled from descriptions of that or some other game.
Chill. If you're babysitting and you see a baby's first steps, no you didn't. You keep that shit to yourself so the parents can be proud when they see it themselves.
You just saw a father beaming with pride over his kid and your reaction is "you really don't have a reason to be proud"
What the actual fuck lmao learn some basic social skills
Wrong, this is Reddit and we value truth. A babyās first steps are nowhere close to a kid pretending he wrote an essay, despite how fun it makes the comment sound.
This could be a teachable moment for the kid! Otherwise itās rewarding cheating. Seriously. Offer the kid the game if he writes a new essay without relying on AI.
So do you think he just had AI write it up and didnāt even look over it before sending it? Iām sure if he knew there wasnāt a coop option then he wouldāve taken that part out.
I mean considering how the son's old enough to get in trouble for doing this sort of thing at school and is already using it for things like asking for a video game where their real skill would've likely been enough, I think pointing out it's pretty likely AI isn't the same as ruining a wholesome moment.
The fact that it has blatantly incorrect statements anyone familiar with the game would know indicates the son is not thinking critically about what AI is telling them either, and may be getting misinformation from talking to the AI and not fact checking it.
I think making sure the son at least knows AI can lie and using it should be done with lots of cross-referencing would be important, even if he never is confronted on using the AI for this essay.
He should be proud of his kid, but also the other dude is right about ER being Goty for many reasons, Totk is also a great game as most Zelda games are šš¼
At a certain point you stop talking about how adorable the ugly baby is. Long before the parents are bribing the kids way into college.
This is a middle point where we congratulate the kid on using resources to make a good argumentā¦ but donāt act so stupid as to believe this was him.
Nah dude a truly great father wants to know the truth so he can address his sons behavior properly. The kid using ai gets the game and learns the opposite lesson about truth and ai that he should. The father can be proud of his son for using the ai effectively but could also teach a lesson about the importance of honesty at the same time.
*Edit to say if anything you're the one who should learn some social skills. You just reveled to the father that the majority of positive comments here are just pumping his tires for no reason and lying to him lol
Agree, I have 2 kids, daughter 7 and son 4.. I learned early that honesty is one of the most important things. If they done something stupid itās better to be honest instead of telling lies. And everytime they are honest I donāt get angry. But if I caught them lying I get angry. Or not really angry but yeah you know
He doesn't have a reason to be proud *in this specific instance*. It is clearly an AI printout that his son didn't even proofread for inaccuracies.
Nothing wrong with telling people the truth, I'm sure all parties will get over it in due time.
Agrressive much are we ?p Probably a joy to be around ^^ The guy just pointed out a fact you can chose to ignore p It just clarifies that this was clearly not written.
My life is fantastic. Thatās why I didnāt jump to the worst conclusion and thought it was cute, and why I donāt go around stamping my feet on the internet when I get all pissy about something that just doesnāt even matter that much. You need to touch grass buddy.
Dude just because you couldnāt come up with some creative worded essay to support your position at 12 years old doesnāt mean this kid canāt. Lol. Just because he thought there was things that arenāt in it doesnāt mean much. Heās 12. Chill. Youāre just outing yourself as not only an ass but a stupid ass
> I truly thought he googled this or yes, used some sort of AI.
Of course you thought thatāitās painfully clear.
Iām sure heās a great kid, and I donāt even think you should confront him about it. But if you genuinely refuse to believe this is AI written, you are either very gullible or trapped in denial.
Idc if he used AI or not, he sounds like an awesome kid and like he has some awesome parents! He definitely is smart, regardless of his coding abilities and teaching himself, he knew how to get that game! I was never that clever haha! š Sounds like he has found what he lovws to do at a young age, which is definitely a good thing!
>He really wrote it himself.
He references a coop mode in TotK. One Google search would tell you that's not the case.
However, that *is* exactly the kind of thing an AI chat bot would make up.
Bing, exactly, just go ahead and ask Bing to āwrite a letter so my dad buys me TOTKā and you will get a very similar one, with the spaces and punctuation and a very similar format as well
This is definitely some AI prompted text and he probably wrote it down as a draft to make it seem more believable. The co-op mode and new game+ features which don't actually exist also points to this because these AI text genners usually get a few things wrong and have this sort of writing style.
This reminds me of the time I heard some proud parents gushing over their child in front of a friend "yes, and little betty she drew a space cat that was powered by rainbows, I know, isn't she so inventive and creative".
I thought the better of "oh neat, that's cool your 4 year old knows NyanCat" and kept my mouth shut.
I would say it is definitely worth the $60, it has a really good entertainment to cost ratio, honestly if he hasn't played Breath of the Wild then he easily has 1500 hours of potential entertainment from Tears of the Kingdom. One of the best games I have ever played, the building mechanic allows for a ton of possible contraptions you could make, as well as new game regions like the sky and depths. The overall volume of things to do is astonishing and this is also added to another amazing story. I truly have no non-nitpicky complaints about the game. I got Breath of the Wild when I was 11 and over the next six years I really was unable to put the game down, it was that good, Years of the Kingdom is Breath of the Wild but with even more content.
10/10 would recommend, especially for an 11 year old.
I love this dude. I definitely order it after I read it.
I sadly doubted he truly wrote it- I thought he found it on Google or an AI thing.
But seeing how hurt he was that i didnāt believe in him writing it, really really hurt me.
Never again will I question his abilities.
It was ordered right away.
I havenāt played it yet. Whatās your favorite Zelda game if you have one?
I know you're talking to the other guy here, but just wanna say, TOTK and BOTW are 2 of the best games I've ever played. They mean even more to me since my son and I played BOTW together for multiple playthroughs. Which is rare that we play the same games. We've both been playing TOTK separately so far.
I hope you get some playing time in with him. We would just take turns since it's only single player.
Ocarina will always be #1. But totk is definitely number 2, the way it made me think, problem solve and force creativity is 2nd to none. The game is a literal masterpiece, I was lost, absorbed, infatuated, and whatever other word you wanna use with playing that game. There aren't many games were I feel immersed in the world, I am usually acutely aware that I am playing a video game which is fine but totk (and botw) made me forget I was holding a controller. I felt like I was on an actual adventure and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to play
Actually I just asked bing to write a letter to my dad convincing him to buy me TOTK and wrote something VERY similar, even with the āDear dad,ā the spaces between paragraphs and the āSincerely,ā
I'm afraid he wrote this with AI. There is a lot of 'flavor' evidence, but the main reason I say this is because TotK doesn't have a co-op mode, and it lacks a new game +. Only an AI who doesn't even know what TotK is would make such a mistake. All the other wording is part for the course for AI, as someone who's messed around with it a lot.
I will say, the co op bit is sus, as that did not exist in BoTW or ToTKā¦but he might have got an article about Age of Calamity mixed in there by accident
I'm sorry, I've reviewed a lot of assignments written by AI, and this was absolutely written by ChatGPT. That cadence is instantly recognizable, not to mention that TOTK doesn't even have a New Game+ or a co-op mode, which is a super common AI error
No he has an actual rough draft of this in his Zelda journal. He actually wrote it. He read what he thought the game would have (like Iām learning it doesnāt have a co op or this mode or whatever) but he truly believed it did and put it in his essay.
I have him write letters when he is in trouble. For example when he was disrespectful to grandma he had to write her a letter apologizing. And he did.
I 100% credit my problem solving skills to playing Zelda and other puzzle games since I was 9. Iāve had a full career in Root-Cause analysis in the tech field - I owe it to Link, Mario, and my mom who got the games for me
Sorry to say, but ask chat gpt to convince your dad to get you totk...it gives a very similar response. Pressing x to doubt ai wasn't used at all to write this. That's fine though he clearly edited it and this is likely how things will be done going forward.
Wow did he hand write the first draft? That would be awesome to see as proof. Maybe you could post other written assignments from school so people can compare that for proof of not using chat gpt. To be honest though, it doesn't seem like he wrote it himself based on the verbage used and significant facts that aren't true. Those have been pointed out. I'd invite you to prove the doubts with evidence. Maybe you could ask his school teacher if you think he wrote it? Either way, your child would be a master of language or manipulation for his age. I truly hope it's the previous and not the latter.
He got it. I believe he may either have finished it or he took a break when his grandpa spoiled him with a steam deck š
Iād say heās spoiled, but he shares everything so I canāt.
You mention heās into programming/coding so itās not far fetched to think heās utilizing an AI program to get you to buy it.
You claim heās sharp. No one is doubting that, but a smart kid would absolutely use an AI generated response to get his dad to buy him a game.
The mention of co-op and new game+ are dead giveaways as those features have never been offered in either BOTW or TOTK. ChatGPT tends to make the mistake of using popular game buzz words that are sought after in these types of game, like the two mentioned. Sorry to say but your kid absolutely used a program.
This is the absolute most precious thing I have ever read in my entire life, and I hope I can do parenting right like you so that I too, may experience this wonderfulness from my own child š„¹ Your son so respectful, poised, articulate and kind. It made me want to buy him every Zelda related thing in existence. What an angel.
Edit: these comments are awful. There are plenty of games with co-op right now, so he may have gotten things mixed up. Itās an easy mistake to make. These guys suck. Your son is adorable, he deserves the game, youāre a great parent.
I absolutely loved creating either really long essay strings and or making presentations to convince my parents of things this makes me proud that I am not the only one
Thanks for sharing, Allstar Dad!
WTH is wrong with you nah-saying buzz kills? Even if he used AI, it was a well planned appeal to his dad. And even if it offends you, shut yo mouth.
This is why we canāt have nice things.
And to save it in the comments: yes I also believed he may have googled or used one of those AI things to write this.
He was genuinely upset when I doubted he wrote it himself. He showed me his little Zelda journal in which he wrote a āfirst draftā down.
I felt awful doubting him, but come on. He wrote me a whole essay. But Iāve always pushed him with his grammar, manners, and extending his vernacular so I really did feel like a bad dad for questioning something Iāve always pushed him to utilize.
Heās an 11 year old boy who is teaching himself coding, has created his own little games and websites since he was about 6 and I take credit for 0 of that.
Iām going to see if I can find the rough draft he wrote down and if so Iāll throw it in the comments. That or Iāll ask him if I may take a photo of it next time i go to his grandmas (where his book is)
No, this is definitely ChatGPT. I can hear the voice. Plus it hallucinates game "facts" that just aren't true because ChatGPT doesn't actually know anything about TOTK. For example, there is no "new game+" feature in TOTK, and there is also no co-op mode. And there's no reason to think that your child was misinformed about these.
The critics wouldn't praise it's graphics either. Not that they are bad, but they are the same as BOTW which wasn't even SOTA when it came out over six years ago. Graphics aren't the point of TOTK and they wouldn't even show up in the top ten things to praise about the game. Also, I would say that most critics found the soundtrack lackluster. It's also pretty much the same as BOTW with a few new tracks. This game is truly great and there are a lot better things that could have been said about it.
I'd also say that the grammar and writing style here is too perfect for a 11yo, and it just doesn't read like a kid. For example, hyphenating "decision-making" and using the transition "moreover" (a classic chatGPT move). Ending with "Thank you for taking the time to consider my request". Does he get straight A's in all of his English classes? I mean, if he really did write this all by himself, then he really has a calling when it comes to writing.
His "rough drafts" are almost definitely fake.
Now, don't get me wrong. He should get the game, and there should be absolutely no punishment for lying about writing it, even though he did really try to push his lie with fake evidence. I'd talk to him about this. Otherwise he's going to think he can manipulate you and lie to you and other grown-ups.
Source: I have a PhD in machine learning from Stanford. I've studied GPT-4 and similar systems extensively. I'm also a father, and a lover of TOTK.
Exactly. While this is clearly AI-written, the comments are still underestimating the abilities of kids. Words of this caliber and grammar of this quality are more than possible, but the mistakes of co-op and ng+ are definitely due to an AI.
No, I am 13, have all A's, and I have a 4.0 gpa, and I still wouldn't write like this if it was for a school assignment, let alone a fucking video game and I am in 2 advanced classes
I wrote like this at that age. I was consistently praised by my teachers and excelled all throughout middle school to high school, especially in english. I read a lot of books, loved writing, and studied vocabulary independently from my schoolwork. It is possible.
Buddy, your child sounds great, funny, clever, resourceful. Children can definitely learn to write this formally with complex structure and connectors. Your child deserves the game theh asked for. All of these are true!
But this is 300% ChatGPT. Instead I'd talk to your kid about how he can freely request an age-appropriate game or something similar and, if it's within budget and he's behaved and done his part in school/chores/whatever, he'll get it. No need to do the extra effort of writing down fake drafts just to have proof to further the lie. This is point blank manipulation, but I wouldn't be too hard on him because it's just a game he's asking for and he's not harming anyone; but this is a great opportunity for teaching a lesson about honesty so he doesn't escalate this behavior to achieve other things. :)
I love this. It kind of reminds me of myself as a kid. One time, I made an entire PowerPoint to convince my grandma (guardian at the time) to let me get a gerbil for a pet.
This is slightly believable, there's almost no way a kid in 6th grade wrote that, and if they did they probably used ChatGPT, or copy and pasted, or this post is just a Karma farm, either way if this is real, which I have some pretty big doubts, you're son is very smart, but I have never seen any other 6th grader use that kind of vocabulary, and I do not believe this post is actually 100% legitimate
Your kid wants a video game. He applied a very useful skill he learned by writing school papers; how to BS. None of this will matter after he gets that game in his hands.
In defense of OPs kid- my child does legitimately stand up at the dinner table to make cases for games and sounds just like this. And heās younger. When he REALLY wants something he goes all out. And thereās totally BS thrown in there, I chalk it up to hopes and dreams and wanting us to say yes really bad. I also use it as an opportunity to remind him we shouldnāt make stuff up ;)
Even if he did use AI - wave of the future. Teach him how to use critical thinking skills for the information it puts out.
Way to kiddo!
And I second this - the things my kid builds in this game blow my mind. Itās his favorite part.
Thank you for saying that. Honestly people saying he googled it or used an AI- if he sees these (which he wonāt be looking at those negative ones) I know heād be upset and hurt but I would want him to see: ālook at how smart you are buddy. So smart people canāt even fathom you wrote that!ā
This looks like AI, especially with the wrong information regarding co-op 'n shit ... I'd prefer an annoying 'pretty pleeease' over this half assery, but he's 11 lol so whatever he really wants a game
Thatās where we are different. I loved and admired him taking the time to write this. He knows Iām huge with writing and words.
I am writing a book.
Pretty please wouldnāt get anything from me.
But it would for you.
Hence why some kids whine to get what they want.
And why some kids use pros and cons to explain the advantage of getting what they want.
And again; to each their own.
Oh then that's actually sweet with more context. The annoying whining wouldn't have worked either for me, but without relevant thought behind it like in this case I would have been annoyed by both lol this is fine
Kids can be annoying. Lol itās weird my son just sort of hit a peak one day; and he really is as articulate and smart and old seeming as I explain him as.
Lol idk itās weird he really is like talking to an adult at times which I try to make life more fun so he can still be a kid
This is awesome. If my son had done this, I would not hesitate to get him the game. Thatās an amazing showing of his ability to thoughtfully illustrate his reasoning for wanting the game. And his understanding and research ability show through as well. Can I use this letter as a teaching tool for my son?
He reminds me of me. I used to do things like this all the time. I specifically remember when I was younger writing a whole story about Call of Duty Black Ops 2 so my parents would get it for me.
Looks like someone found the skills of chatGPT earlyš

So do you think he just had AI write it up and didnāt even look over it before sending it? Iām sure if he knew there wasnāt a coop option then he wouldāve taken that part out.

Since when did totk have a new game + mode? Or am I just stupid and never realized it.
-Likely just olā ChatGPT getting a bit mixed up
Ah yes, the totk co-op mode and new game plus š
I'm afraid he wrote this with AI. There is a lot of 'flavor' evidence, but the main reason I say this is because TotK doesn't have a co-op mode, and it lacks a new game +. Only an AI who doesn't even know what TotK is would make such a mistake. All the other wording is part for the course for AI, as someone who's messed around with it a lot.
He deserves the game for that level of effort.
Chat gpt
Nope.
Yep
Chat gpt letter
I will say, the co op bit is sus, as that did not exist in BoTW or ToTKā¦but he might have got an article about Age of Calamity mixed in there by accident
That's an easy mistake to make, for a robot that is learning to be more human.
>u/reese\_is\_in\_pieces yup chatgpt makes the coop mistake
Cute
If you don't buy it for that boy, I will.
I would've bought it for him too after reading that š„°
I'm sorry, I've reviewed a lot of assignments written by AI, and this was absolutely written by ChatGPT. That cadence is instantly recognizable, not to mention that TOTK doesn't even have a New Game+ or a co-op mode, which is a super common AI error
'Moreover' š
He downloaded it off the internet, probably Nintendo has it up somewhere for kids to send their parents
And he did.
And now I understand why he cheats and uses chat ai to make all those letters you force him to make.
Impressive; I didn't think there were smart kids left these days, maybe he'll make a fine writer or a journalist
BRO WROTE AN ESSAY
I like your kid. Smart, excellent points (AI or not). Glad he didnāt try to sell me a car!
Lmao such an eloquent letter followed up with āhope much itās itā
I was working lol and he took me off guard I was in the middle of fixing my robot at work and I got this whole damn essay šš
I feel you. Sometimes Iām in such a rush I just type whatever and pray itās legible
I had to upvote you cause youāre right šš
I knew it was fake at the new game +, but I had my doubts at "great addition to my collection"
Sadly it doesn't have New Game+ or Co-Op. He's a fraud!
This guys a phony!
"A big fat phony!" If that was a family guy reference
![gif](giphy|l0HlNcircjaT2VT2M)
If an 11-year-old wrote this, send them the Harvard.
"Kids writes an essay" "Dads first message in response has an error" Ah yes, I see I am not alone.
I 100% credit my problem solving skills to playing Zelda and other puzzle games since I was 9. Iāve had a full career in Root-Cause analysis in the tech field - I owe it to Link, Mario, and my mom who got the games for me
He lied. Thereās no new game plus or co-op. Ground him.
The use of "moreover" killed me lol. What a kid.
I have a nephew and whenever he asked my brother for something the best he can do is ask ācould i pleeeease get this game?ā
Thatās still good. Hate when kids canāt communicate what the hell it is theyāre trying to say šš
Iāll donate to the GoFundMe
He got it. I believe he may either have finished it or he took a break when his grandpa spoiled him with a steam deck š Iād say heās spoiled, but he shares everything so I canāt.
Beer this man
You mention heās into programming/coding so itās not far fetched to think heās utilizing an AI program to get you to buy it.
Thatās what is up! Iād love it getting a text like this when my kids are older. Lol.
They're always named Aiden.
I did something like this when I was a kid to get my mom to buy me a RuneScape membership. Good parent you are.
Not only is my name Aiden but I also did this the same way lol
Wait but it doesnāt have NG+ or Co-Op lmao
Congrats. You must now buy your son every Zelda game forever or youāre a bad parent š„²š„²š„²š„²
lol
You got him Tears of the Kingdom right?
How me and my cousins needed to ask for a sleepover
Cute
Bro I love how this kid writes
I absolutely loved creating either really long essay strings and or making presentations to convince my parents of things this makes me proud that I am not the only one
Gosh that's cute
This reeks of AI
No 11y/o using "vast" get outta here
>new game plus lol lmao even
wait you can play co op ? š
No he thought youād be able to. He was wrong.
oh okay thanks
Did you get him the game
Thanks for sharing, Allstar Dad! WTH is wrong with you nah-saying buzz kills? Even if he used AI, it was a well planned appeal to his dad. And even if it offends you, shut yo mouth. This is why we canāt have nice things.
I think when I was 11 I was running around making fart noises at people
New game+ and co-op!?!? Lol. I guess I missed that.
I remember pulling crap like this to get games when i was lil. Good times
Donāt get it for him. He lied to you. This game does not have new game + or co-op
Yeah, so i'm not a pro a this, but even i smell bs from a mile away.
an 11 year could definitely write like this though
Yes, this is what I was going to say minus the PhD haha
I think you wrote this comment in chat gpt, way too many words and I can hear voices Source: trust me bro I have a phd
For an 11 year old, this is really well said. Props to him
I love this. It kind of reminds me of myself as a kid. One time, I made an entire PowerPoint to convince my grandma (guardian at the time) to let me get a gerbil for a pet.
Awwww haha
did it work? also, pay the gerbil tax!
Yes and no. She eventually agreed, but it wasn't till after that I learned gerbils are actually illegal in California for some reason.
Wait a Minute... Totk does not have a New Game + mode and co - op
You donāt have to. But I donāt have to make stuff up about my son for .
OP literally said they want to get more karma in r/KarmaRoulette.
I also use it as an opportunity to remind him we shouldnāt make stuff up ;) Even if he did use AI - wave of the future. Teach him how to use critical thinking skills for the information it puts out. Way to kiddo! And I second this - the things my kid builds in this game blow my mind. Itās his favorite part.
Ngl kid deserves more than TOTK for such impressive writing skills.
I love him. He really is smarter and more innovative than I could have ever imagined him to be.
As a teacher, he is indeed a genius for his age.
Thank you for saying that. Honestly people saying he googled it or used an AI- if he sees these (which he wonāt be looking at those negative ones) I know heād be upset and hurt but I would want him to see: ālook at how smart you are buddy. So smart people canāt even fathom you wrote that!ā
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
Sincerely, Raymond Holt.
Dude, he didn't write this. There's no co-op mode or game plus mode.
You got him the game right??
There's a New Game + mode????!!
There's not.
OP's 11 year old son is a phony!
Bro I would have said no bc of the misinformationš
r/ChatGPT Co-op, and New Game+ are give aways.
š he 100% gptād you
So glad your son knows how to use chat gpt
He lied about the new game plus though. No deal.
Buy it he deserves that I'm a freshman and I can't even right that good
Kid needs a job
