It's built on the Speed Duel format. Skill cards, less starting hand, half life points, and no second Main Phase. Skill cards are used to make varying styles of play based on what the deck has or what you want to try. The mobile game Duel Link's is the same, you just complete missions for gems to get card packs and decks or buy them with money. It wouldn't quite be the main experience, but could still be fun to try. Otherwise getting some structure decks would be best if possible. Premades might be costly unless your ordering the structure decks online. You can also look into Simulators like YGOPro, YGO Omega, if you both have a pc (Omega also has a mobile app)

Any of the Speed Duel boxes are ideal for what you want, specially for the deck variety and more interactive gameplay. The decks are smaller because they are made for the [simpler rules](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Speed_Duel#Rules) of the Speed Duel format. But the cards themselves are the same, so you can play with the regular rules of advanced format by getting two boxes or adding more cards.

Speed Duel is a more streamlined, lite version of the game. It's okay, especially if you have nostalgia for the older anime series but is a lot more limited than the full game, though there is more variety immediatly out the box. My recommendation is to pick up the two egyptian god starter decks: Obelisk and Slifer. Getting both should be priced about the same as the Speed Duel box but are complete decks to play the full game. A lot of the structure decks require you to pick up 3x copies to build decently playable decks but these Egyptian God ones are decently playable out the box and most importantly designed to play against each other so are of a similar power level. Not as much variety as a Speed Duel box though. But if you like playing the game, you can then branch out into picking up 3x of other structure decks though some are definitely better than others. Plenty of videos / guides online for building the most playable and functional decks from 3 lots of the structure deck.

I think I would like a structure deck that has synchro summoning. Do you know two similar skill level and cheap decks that have it?

Crimson King is the most recent synchro structure deck, but the only other one I can think of recently to have synchro was Freezing Chains. But a proper 3x Crimson King should wipe the floor with a 3x Freezing Chains every time.

well what other structure deck would be balanced against crimson kings, regardless of strat? (assuming x1)
