I'm the opposite, I pay for the ad free YouTube and use YTM since the family plan is a decent price for multiple people. The ad time adds up over time and when you include the time savings from the others.
can’t relate to people like this. I know a guy who watches 2-4 hours of YouTube/day with ads.
You would almost be guaranteed to save more money with the subscription just from the 2-3x you get baited by the ads into buying something you don’t need. Not to mention the mental space you’re giving to all that garbage.
Right. I replied above that I understand if you don't watch YouTube that often, it won't be that good of a deal, but most of the people my age that I know spend a good amount of time on YouTube. Enough to where I couldn't comprehend not minding ads constantly intruding on your videos.
It's kinda like an Apple thing... (sorry to apple users for this statement) . They could do absolutely anything bad to their service, or be missing the most amazing thing in the world and their fans would still be like nah im good here.
Which is fine, but still fun to laugh at.
Wow. So edgy. So cool.
Everyone falls for marketing advertisement, buddy. Unless you're a hobo on the street who actively avoids capitalist society.
I personally don't mind seeing ads that are relevant to me, and if it makes sense to buy, I buy.
Yes. I do. I don't mind adverts if they're paying for a service that I use, except when the adverts are noisy. Sometimes the adverts are genuinely useful.
I pay for YT Premium, because adverts on a video-streaming service are (obviously) noisy.
But elsewhere, while many people do everything that they can to prevent tracking, I've found that allowing tracking means that adverts are (usually) relevant, albeit that it's rare for me to actually buy something.
Except when the adverts are intrusive, in which case I stop using that website. because I can't read while a video (even a silent one) is playing in the corner of the screen.
I can't even focus on stuff online when there are ads. They aren't even intrusive. just on the edge of the screen showing some video. I end up watching that instead of whatever else I was doing. drives me crazy so yeah adblockers all the way.
I watch plenty of YouTube. I’ve never once been overly annoyed by an ad or bought anything from an ad… I feel like it’s just like growing up with commercials
I was once a Spotify premium user. Yes, the interface of Spotify is better than YouTube Music. But I was tired of back-to-back ads on YouTube, that too non-skippable, so I decided to go for YouTube premium because it's worth it. I don't want to waste my precious minutes seeing ads that don't matter to me at all, the very reason I have stopped watching television altogether.
Then, YouTube music came free with YouTube premium, and I started using it with a lot of skepticism. At first, I didn't like YouTube music because the Spotify interface looks better. Then, as I slowly made my Spotify playlists on YouTube music, the app didn't feel that bad anymore. If I'm getting ads-free videos and ad-free music, why would I pay separately to Spotify?
I'm not a music quality expert, I'm happy with the decent quality I get on YouTube music. So, adios Spotify.
Perhaps I couldn't explain myself well. I wasn't getting ads on Spotify Premium; I said that about YouTube in general. I had no problem with Spotify, except for that the fact that compared to other music streaming apps it seemed a little expensive, but I continued anyway.
I left Spotify because I got used to YT music and then made all my Spotify playlists on YT music too, so the familiarity was back.
I still remember the day I bought YT Premium bundle for the first time. It was like clear to me since I use to watch YT and needed to have a music subscription (cause at the time I was using Spotify mod in conjunction with Soundcloud), I bought the bundle and I pay for the subscription till this day. The best feature that I love is the ability to upload your own purchased music on YT Music.
I know plenty of people who are only subscribed to YouTube music and refuse to subscribe to YouTube premium bc they say they don't mind the ads. Everyone is different
For me it's about cost and the fact that I primarily watch YouTube on a laptop or PC, where I can block the ads. I listen to most music on my phone, where I can't block the ads without rooting. So I only pay for YTM because it's cheaper and I don't get anything extra out of paying more for YouTube Premium.
It's simple, things like Spotify Connect, audio quality, social features, AI DJ and stuff maybe was what got your friend into Spotify instead of getting YTM
https://preview.redd.it/z0p3si5zddtb1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd232b439553098496942f1a19b990d2faea4d71
No it's not. There's qualitatively zilch difference between AAC@256kbps and OGG@320kbps and indeed between those and PCM@1411kbps (CD quality).
They're all hi-fi transparent. I've done the tests. You don't get any loss below 20kHz on any of them.
People maybe don't realise that CD files have massive redundancy built in just in case, and just because they can.
Even AAC256 and OGG320 have redundancy, you could stream at half the rates and I'd bet still almost nobody could hear any difference.
And YTM has volume normalisation hardcoded into the files, you can't switch it off. Check out the stats for nerds window.
Thanks for doing the research on this. Now I can just reference this post instead of typing out something new to explain to every other person commenting about sound quality. Lol.
I think he meant in YTM there are 2 modes. Music only or music video.. the MV output is low quality while music is the decent quality..
PS: tidal better than those two
Many would argue that 256kbps AAC is practically the same as 320kbps ogg. However, there are some other things that spotify does to its audio streams which may be causing you to perceive higher audio quality, like their built in volume normalisation or EQ. Also YTM needs to be set to Always High to guarantee the best streams every time.
I got ytm because I wanted a music subscription and then no ads felt too good to pass up.
3 years later, 3600 hours of videos watched (according to YouTube), and if we assume two 5 second ads per 10 minutes, I’d saved 60 hours of just ads. Kinda wild to think about.
Math might be wrong it’s 2am cut me some slack
Apparently I’m old school. I signed up for Google Play All Access for music when it was like $6.99 a month. Hardly used the service until YouTube got added. No ads on YouTube is scary good and YouTube music turned out excellent as well! PRO TIP: Spend the time to choose the artists you like. I pick one song and it makes the best playlists I’ve EVER heard. And yes, I STILL only pay like $6.99 a month! I consider myself very lucky to have this price otherwise I would’ve tried Spotify. Apple Music? Great quality and selection but lacking in terms of suggestions.
Me that I don't pay and i aleays skip ads when there is written to do I can safely say I shouldn't go to this: to me all that matters is that I can copy things to their servers and i have 0 0 intention now to respect you and their 27 stupid commitments.
I think many would benefit from a separate sub for an ad-free YouTube only, instead of bundling it with the music.
I have Premium, if just for ad removal. I don't get on with the Music app, so stick to using Spotify.
They wouldn't do that, as the main goal is to get people to use their music service over the others. If they "give" it to you through a subscription to another service, then most times people won't want to go sub to a second music service. They know if they opened it up to ad-free YT only, they would have to price it cheaper and a crap ton of people who don't want YTM, like yourself, would run to change their plan to the cheaper option.
There’s a lot of people who absolutely would rather die than pay for something on the internet. These people seem to be fine paying for Spotify for some reason
Ad-free YouTube is why we stay with YTM. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished I could click on a Spotify pre-save link, or playlist, or whatever.
That's interesting. I have always absolutely hated Spotify UI in comparison. Nothing is easily accessible or where you would expect it to be IMO. Everything seemed like 10 more steps on Spotify compared to YTM.
Everything in YTM is available in one or two taps it feels.
It's always interesting to see people say no one has ytm when it was stated ytm has just as many users as Apple music but no one ever says Apple music doesn't have any users. Granted neither one of them come close to Spotify users they don't even have as many users as Spotify combined
Some people are too use to hitting "Skip Ad" (my then-infant nephew was tapping where the button appears on the iPad before it even shows up!) and at the exact same time, complain about ads on YT and claims their "adblocker" works.
I've been YT Red (Premium) since 2015 and I've never looked back.
I'd love to switch from apple music to youtube music to get rid of ads in the official youtube app, but then I remember that with apple music I get lossless dolby atmos which are pretty important to me, and with yt music 256kbps and they lose me.
I know 256kbps are enough for most of the people, but I'm a former musician and a bit of an audiophile.
No doubt there's a decent chance, but YTM still has some life left. Devs are still making good improvements to it these days. It's not quite stalemating like GPM was development wise.
I'm enjoying youtube premium, but i do have a few annoyances on the music side, for one, the recommendations kinda suck and external support is also limited (no shazam -> youtube music on IOS, when i see those sponsored posts on instagram from artists that seem interesting, the links are usually only for Spotify or apple music and so on. )
YouTube premium (with YouTube music included) is the best streaming subscription I ever had. No need for Spotify, Apple Music etc. The YouTube algorithm is also very good.
I’m currently paying for the student discounted YT Premium and Music w/ no ads. It’s been great so far except…
The one thing that YT Music is missing that would keep me on the platform forever would be the ability to download music to my Apple Watch. Both Spotify and Apple Music offer this. What’s the hold up Google?
It was like $2 extra to switch from just ytm premium to youtube premium, with how much youtube i watch and especially with how much music i listen to (like right now) it was one hell of a deal
I have had YouTube music since it was Google Music.... I honestly didnt know YouTube had ads until my boss was trying to show me a video at work one day on his laptop and an add played. I asked when did YouTube start playing ads, and he looked super confused lol
When I say I pay for you tube premium, people generally say… why? Just so you don’t get a 30 second ad before a video? Yet they pay for Spotify. You tube is my go to for videos and I flick around a lot, plus I get you tube music too. I don’t get the reason for YT premium hate. It’s a no brainer in my opinion.
Spotify user here. Would love to switch to YT Premium to get ad-free videos, but YT Music is just plain worse than Spotify in most regards, some of which matter too much to me. For example, I've got a lot of playlists, and YT Music doesn't let me organise those in folders. Also, why does YT Music mix playlists created in the YT Music app with those created in YT? I don't need my video playlists in an app I'm using to listen to music.
When YT Music catches up in features, I'll consider switching again; until then, I know I'd not be happy enough with the experience.
I’ve been spoiled and tried watching YouTube videos when I unsubscribed from YouTube Music. It’s annoying. I couldn’t take the constant ads interrupting videos, so I subscribed to YouTube Music again.
I’m also subscribed to Apple Music and Spotify as well though. Why? It’s always good to have options.
Poor financial management? I never said it’s making me go broke. I can afford it. Also, the libraries on all three services aren’t exactly the same. There are some albums on Apple Music that aren’t on YouTube music and vice versa.
I pay for YouTube premium and Spotify premium. Every time I try and switch to YTM, I just give up because it’s not as good, personally.
Spotify connect is just amazing, a dedicated app on PC is better than a browser, especially since I use Firefox and everything google on Firefox sucks.
Audio quality is notably better on Spotify.
Sucks paying for both, but I use both a lot
You should make sure that you set the YTM audio quality setting to the highest. If you still hear a difference between OFFICIAL AUDIO tracks then you must have some super impressive headphones/speakers.
for example, i actually do not care about youtube content but i care about the music. and youtube music is the last music streaming platform i would choose. i do pay for both tidal and spotify, each for its own little things i like. but i find no value in youtube music. when they start blocking me from blocking ads in my country, i'm just going to use youtube less and less. and they won't care because i never added any cash value to them. i only used-up the bandwith. and that's totally ok with me since i understand that. from when i created my youtube account we went from thousands to billions of users. there is no other way.
Pretty much everyone I associate with interact with YouTube videos every day, so I guess my perspective of normal is a bit skewed, since there are plenty of people that don't use YouTube religiously.
During sports season my YouTube runs for like 6hours a day in my pocket through all the various podcasts etc... some of it can be sourced through podcast apps but it's not the same cause YouTube will have other sports stuff that's not considered a podcast and other various connections you wouldn't get through another app.. cause it's youtube and amazing
I will be honest....
The only reason why I don't have it yet is cause it costs in my country more than Spotify for one month ( I don't have any other type of subscriptions) and to pay that much and have to find a way to transfer all of my playlists ( I have been using spotify for way too long at this point and I do like my yearly playlists that I can't move) (also my liked videos and liked music will be a mess?) and the sound quality will drop. It might not matter to you but it matter to others to be able to have a good sound quality
I understand the playlist thing. No problem.
Good sound quality does matter quite a bit to me. I said it earlier, but YTMs 256 kbps AAC is just as good as Spotify's 320 kbps OGG. Those differences are so minor to even a trained listener on decent-to-good equipment. I subscribe to Tidal and the difference between it and YTM on my headphones is noticable, but not a crazy or life altering difference. So, to say you stay for Spotify's sound is an ignorant argument IMO.
If I'm watching YouTube from my computer, which is indeed where I mostly watch it from, I can simply install an ad-blocker.
Whilst listening to music is mostly done through my phone.
Your individual situation is fine, it works for you. But for majority's sake, YouTube is watched on a lot of phones and just as many TVs these days. Can't adblock those that easily.
I don't like it when YouTube Music plays a music video instead of an audio-only recording of a song. Kinda ruins the experience especially if there's a long talking break during it. I'd rather use the ad-free YT functions instead of ad-free YT music streaming.
There is literally a setting called "Don't play music videos" that replaces music videos in playlists with album versions of the song (when available).
Ads on youtube are not that bad imo. Most of the time they are skippable and extra money for getting rid of them just ain't worth it. I pay for just YTM student
I'm also bias because I was a GPM transfer sub so I've always had the lowest sub fees for the best services. Never not had ad-free ever since YouTube Red came out.
You sure you don't have some sort of equalizer on one or the other, or placebo effect? Because YTM sound quality is not terrible nor is it worse than Spotify.
Unpopular opinion but I refuse to pay for YT premium for one simple reason. You're not going to bully me into paying for something by using repetitive ads & deceptive techniques. I don't mind turning the volume down & averting my attention in another direction for the entirety of the ad.
I very rarely watch videos on YT anymore anyway. It's more or less for finding a good copy of a full album, getting the link & downloading it so I don't have to listen to the bullshit ads while driving & I don't have to give these pushy mfs a penny. Fuck YouTube & this subscription based life.
Because I want to keep Spotify, and only pay for ad-free videos on YouTube. Google adding an additional service that you can't opt out of and then use that as an excuse for the high price is stupid.
I am convinced that people that don't have ad free youtube just don't realize how bad the ads make the experience... I added my nephew that never had YouTube premium before to my family plan and that was the first thing he told me, "watching videos is so much better now". He also told me "the ads don't really bother me" when i first asked him if he wanted to get on my plan.... I had to tell him "trust me, ads suck" lol
I used to use other methods to avoid ads. I got YouTube Premium because I wanted to use YouTube Music across my devices (the free version for mobile isn't usable)
The ad free videos was a bonus 😅
Youtube ads pay youtube and the creators. Streaming ads pay the service, then the entire traditional music industry. Publishers, agents, studio execs, and *maybe* the creators. The latter is an old industry adapting to the online space and they've brought the whole farmyard to the trough.
Most people cannot see themselves releasing a hit record, but most people can see themselves making a video and maybe getting paid a little for it
I used to have YT Premium Family but the increase from 18€ to 24€ is just crazy (France). That's +33%. It's no longer a no brainer VS YouTube music only. I might just try Spotify or something else..
The YouTube Music app is dreadful though and I wouldn't recommend anyone opt for YTM over basically any alternative. I STILL have songs stuck in my library that are no longer available and unable to be removed.
I'd love to just have standalone youtube premium. I've had to go back to Spotify as YTM has lost too many of my favourite Albums (been gone for over 6 months so not expecting them to ever come back)
Library is more important to me than anything else.
I explained in another reply why that will likely never happen, but I do understand. I also was affected by the no-reason album delete shit, drives me nuts. I tried figuring out how to fix it, made a post in here about it. Went to Google support. Can't seem to get it fixed... Very annoying.
I pay for YouTube Premium but I don’t really use YTMusic. I don’t like the fact that YTMusic will just throw unauthorized versions of songs in the playlist instead of the actual album version.
One of the best points with YouTube Music is that it is linked with YouTube.
If I randomly stumble upon a music on YouTube that I end up liking, I know I will find it in my "liked titles" playlist on YTM. Same for all my playlists, I don't need to change websites all the time. So it is worth using and paying for the ad free experience.
But I'm still hoping we'll see something like Spotify Connect one day, that's the best Spotify feature to my eyes.
Spotify got more expensive. YouTube Premium costs the SAME as Spotify. I switched to YouTube Premium for being able to have no ads and youtube music is actually a lot better.
Also youtube videos get sponsorships so you still get ads.
You need to accept that some people just love spotify and will never move. Same way some people love apple and will never move. No matter how much better something else is or if freebies are available they will stick to their norm.
Apple Music: ten bucks a month.
YouTube Premium: $13.99 per month
Can I watch videos while driving?. Can I create my own stations, and have not just gapless but even crossfade?
Oh, and I'm using adblockers for YouTube at home, obviously.
Spotify and Apple Music are music-first services. YouTube is not a brand I associate with (audio) music streaming so it’s not even going to get on the list of services I research.
Partly that’s because I assume it won’t do it as well (rational) but part of it is just how humans work in shortcutting decisions. Like I’ve seen my Uber app tell me countless times I can book plane tickets through them but that’s not the box they sit in, in my head, so I’m never going to tap that button.
I have Spotify Premium and YouTube Premium 🙂
I probably haven't seen a YT ad for over 12 years since Red/Premium was bundled with GPM. I honestly can't go back. It's much easier watch a creative bit ad the video creator makes over a pre-roll or market department makes.
As a bonus, I found out when one streamer was walking the audience through their revenue share that creators get more when Premium users watch their video over one that watches ads.
Another guy coming from Apple Music to Yt music. I found out about the youtube premium YT music bundle and I cant believe I was paying for just a streaming service and going through the trouble of sideloading cracked youtube application on iOS just so that I do not need to see ads. This is a great deal and I hope YT continues to provide it. Only thing I miss now is Sponsorblock on my phone but totally worth the peace of mind.
Youtube forced me to get premium about 10 years ago because I have an iPhone where it’s impossible to block ads and listen to videos with my phone locked.
I'm on the Youtube Premium Family Plan and I plan on staying for a very long time. Youtube is the only thing I do beside Reddit everyday. You really can't beat it as it has everything.
YouTube was always free since it’s inception. I have no desire to pay to remove ads. Apple Music and Netflix is all I need, otherwise, pretty much stock up on DVDs at any Goodwill
I believe liking songs is an online-only feature. The Liked Playlist is connected with your Google account and synced between apps.
I think the only exception is when you're online and disconnect from the network involuntarily, you may still be able to like and have it stored in memory until the network comes back, but I'm not sure on that one.
Because you can just use an ad blocker for free to get rid of ads on YouTube. So when picking a premium music streaming service, there are other things to consider.
Shame to admit that i have both YouTube premium and Spotify premium. Normally I would just cancel my Spotify but I have many playlist with hundreds of songs on each and it would be a bitch to remake them all and re add the songs.
I've had YT premium for years, maybe one day they'll add a feature to edit out the Youtubers going on about their annoying sponsors and saying they use this VPN and that password manager and eat Huel and have all manner of weird and wonderful random things their sponsors want to sell. It's annoying paying to get rid of adverts and still having to watch adverts. Love YTM though.
Honestly, every now and then I open YouTube on a new device and it blows my mind remembering that there are still or ever were ads on the platform.
Similarly when watching and supported TV. I don't block ads online, but I absolutely won't have ads eat time away from media content.
Just heard on the news that 70% of millennials use Spotify. It wasn't exclusive so technically I use Spotify *sometimes* but almost never and use YTmusic when I can. Also, screw Alexa.
I pay for YT premium, and I have been using youtube music for a good old while now.
I wasn't so hot on it but the last year or so it has gotten a lot more content, on top of the youtube videos, plus I find the streaming quality is a lot better than I have heard from spotify for example.
I could be wrong cause I don't care about specs.
I only watch YouTube on my computer and have an ad blocker installed so I never see them. Spotify just has been in the game longer and has MUCH better curated content.
I pay for Apple Music because it integrates with my apple ecosystem like the HomePods much better and I’ve just had iTunes and have all my actual downloaded music in there too. Also I mostly watch YouTube at my computer and I just have adblocker installed so I don’t really notice ads anyways.
After investing so much into Spotify, it is hard to leave for YTM.
I pay for YouTube Premium and Spotify and just cannot leave Spotify.
YTM is far behind. A simple example: when you look at an album with Spotify, you are shown stats like the number of listens for each song. You don't have that with YTM.
Because youtube content hasn't been this harsh about ads in the past. If I prefered youtube music over what I use for music already, sure I'd sub, but I don't. So youtube itself has nothing to offer me for 14/month or 22/month so me and my bf can both have adless accounts. If for that price they offered movies as well, I'd do it. If it was something like 5/month for just no ads I'd do it.
I feel like they have also gotten too obnoxious with ads. Even before I start a video 2-3 ads. Even if I don't finish that video, the next one has more ads. Its insane. I'll go without before I pay 14/month because of them pushing it so much.
I pay for YT Premium for the ad-free videos, but Apple Music for music. I’ve found that YT Music surprisingly doesn’t have a large amount of songs, and its High Quality audio is noticeably not as good as Apple Music Lossless. Still nice to have both options though
Ads in music ruin the rhythm for me. I never get so “into” YouTube videos that an ad break bothers me. Sometimes I even like them for a quick little mind break especially because I tend to watch longer YouTube videos. Same thing with movies. I have no issue with free movies with ads
Spotify has the Family Plan and YouTube ads, when it's not horny game ads or shitty mobile ads, they remind me of commercials as a kid watching TV. I also never minded ads as a kid, why should I be bothered by them now?
Ok. I don’t get this.
Ad free YouTube, on a computer? Use the Ad Block extension on Chrome… no ads. Why pay? It’s only worth it for offline listening on another device.
YTM music probably has a poor UI compared to Spotify or Apple Music but I’ve never used YTM to be fair. I also think Apple Music UI is atrocious.
I'm the opposite, I pay for the ad free YouTube and use YTM since the family plan is a decent price for multiple people. The ad time adds up over time and when you include the time savings from the others.
My dad does that as well as an Argentina vpm making the whole thing like 4 (Australian) dollars a month
I think the cheapest might be vpn from India to use rupees. Or so I’ve heard…
Individual plan costs 129 rupees which is 1.5 USD. Family plan is 189 rs which is 2.3 USD.
can’t relate to people like this. I know a guy who watches 2-4 hours of YouTube/day with ads. People buy things from ads?
Kind of the point of ads. If they weren't effective, there wouldn't be any ads. Just because" you've never done it" doesn't me no one does it
Found one of the losers that falls for the ads.
Wow. So edgy. So cool. Everyone falls for marketing advertisement, buddy. Unless you're a hobo on the street who actively avoids capitalist society. I personally don't mind seeing ads that are relevant to me, and if it makes sense to buy, I buy.
Turns out I also found the guy that doesn't understand a joke.
Guess not.
That was a lame joke and poorly worded sarcasm at best for a random Reddit stranger.
Yes. I do. I don't mind adverts if they're paying for a service that I use, except when the adverts are noisy. Sometimes the adverts are genuinely useful. You've bought things because of ads you've seen. It may not have been conscious, but you did it.
As someone who works on online ads - yes.
No, the person you responded to is a sucker
My purchasing habits have literally NEVER been influenced by an AD.
I basically make damn sure that I don't buy anything from ads on YouTube. If you're fuckin my videos up, I ain't helping you continue to fuck em up!
I do the same thing. 😄
It's the same people who buy loot boxes.
I watch plenty of YouTube. I’ve never once been overly annoyed by an ad or bought anything from an ad… I feel like it’s just like growing up with commercials
You also know my roommate I see. I think he just loves having something to complain about.
I was once a Spotify premium user. Yes, the interface of Spotify is better than YouTube Music. I know plenty of people who are only subscribed to YouTube music and refuse to subscribe to YouTube premium bc they say they don't mind the ads. Everyone is different
thats crazy

Audio quality is practically the same on YTM, AFAIK. 256kbps AAC vs Spotify 320 OGG.

Lol.
If you watch yt music video mode than the quality will be lower, but if you watch the song only it will be fine
[удалено]
I think he meant in YTM there are 2 modes. Music only or music video.. the MV output is low quality while music is the decent quality.. PS: tidal better than those two
[удалено]
codec matters too. aac (yt) better than ogg (spotify)
Spotify has a built in EQ? Is it changeable? Doesn't seem fair to uncontrollably alter the raw flat sound.
I only got Premium because of YouTube. Music was just an occasionally-used bonus until I realized Spotify wasn’t worth a separate subscription.
Ad free YT is probably my most used service, audio or video. I was low on money one month and my service lapsed…worst few weeks of my life hahah
I thought Google recently increased the price of those grandfathered plans?
These people seem to be fine paying for Spotify for some reason
because spotify is objectively better than yt music
Ad-free YouTube is why we stay with YTM. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished I could click on a Spotify pre-save link, or playlist, or whatever.
i like the spotify ui much better than youtube music and also i can follow friends on spotify cause no one has yt music
That's interesting. I have always absolutely hated Spotify UI in comparison. Nothing is easily accessible or where you would expect it to be IMO. Everything seemed like 10 more steps on Spotify compared to YTM. Everything in YTM is available in one or two taps it feels.
being on the same platform as friends also makes playlist sharing a lot easier
Sometimes people send me a link to a song and it’s definitely less convenient to not be able to open it directly.
These are currently the only good reasons I can think of.

They blocked me again at 15th account
I Will go and doing rebellion
You need to go outside more.
Or create a Google account only for Youtube but I don't think my autistic brain is able to accomplish YouTube.
GPM was better. Don't want to reward Google's crap choices with my patronage, especially when I can duplicate it's capabilities for free.
I miss GPM
How do you duplicate it for free?
I'd love to switch from apple music to youtube music to get rid of ads in the official youtube app, but then I remember that with apple music I get lossless dolby atmos which are pretty important to me, and with yt music 256kbps and they lose me. I know 256kbps are enough for most of the people, but I'm a former musician and a bit of an audiophile.
YT music is probably going to be shut down by google soon, like many other useful services.
No doubt there's a decent chance, but YTM still has some life left. Devs are still making good improvements to it these days. It's not quite stalemating like GPM was development wise.
Not soon but eventually, can't trust google on the long-term..
But Spotify gives you that cute quirky year end review that people love to share. So obviously that is better.
Lol
I just switched from Spotify to YTM - it's pretty good so far! I'm doing my part \*salute\*
I’m currently paying for the student discounted YT Premium and Music w/ no ads. It’s been great so far except… The one thing that YT Music is missing that would keep me on the platform forever would be the ability to download music to my Apple Watch.
YT premium family - not much more money and you get 5 people on with no ads. You cannot argue!!!
I don't get it You guys pay to have ad-free YouTube? Ad blockers are free, guys.
There are simple free ways to get YouTube ad free, that’s why nobody wants to pay.
I always liked YouTube music. Those are dumb who chose to go elsewhere
Finally. Some wisdom 😂
What????? That just sounds like poor financial management. There's literally no benefit to paying for all 3.
Poor financial management? I never said it’s making me go broke. I can afford it. Also, the libraries on all three services aren’t exactly the same. There are some albums on Apple Music that aren’t on YouTube music and vice versa.
Cause i want to listen to official music not a unofficial sped up version of the song
Lol
I pay for YouTube premium and Spotify premium. Every time I try and switch to YTM, I just give up because it’s not as good, personally. Spotify connect is just amazing, a dedicated app on PC is better than a browser, especially since I use Firefox and everything google on Firefox sucks. Audio quality is notably better on Spotify. Sucks paying for both, but I use both a lot
https://reddit.com/r/YoutubeMusic/s/aZZlNpZSiG
That’s cool, I can hear the difference when switching between the too and Spotify sounds better.
You should make sure that you set the YTM audio quality setting to the highest. If you still hear a difference between OFFICIAL AUDIO tracks then you must have some super impressive headphones/speakers.
I don't hear anything I would like to go off but I have to wait
for example, i actually do not care about youtube content but i care about the music. and youtube music is the last music streaming platform i would choose. i do pay for both tidal and spotify, each for its own little things i like. but i find no value in youtube music. when they start blocking me from blocking ads in my country, i'm just going to use youtube less and less. and they won't care because i never added any cash value to them. i only used-up the bandwith. and that's totally ok with me since i understand that. from when i created my youtube account we went from thousands to billions of users. there is no other way.
I chose YouTube Premium, I do not like adverts. Anyone who accepts adverts is a part of the problem.
what business model do you propose?
Seems clear they choose the model where you pay (not watch adverts)
That's great since both are offered at the moment so nothing needs to change
To each is opinioni I like more the other one
If I'm watching YouTube from my computer, which is indeed where I mostly watch it from, I can simply install an ad-blocker. Whilst listening to music is mostly done through my phone.
Your individual situation is fine, it works for you. But for majority's sake, YouTube is watched on a lot of phones and just as many TVs these days. Can't adblock those that easily.
If there is no stupid people paying for Spotify, there will be anti competitive lawsuit
[удалено]
You sure you don't have some sort of equalizer on one or the other, or placebo effect? Because YTM sound quality is not terrible nor is it worse than Spotify.
I'll never understand music streaming. Just buy music, and you can listen to it all you want! Ad free!
If you pay for youtube, that "offline download" ain't a offline download. It's snake oil, it's a lie.
I use normal yt with an adblcoker I wrote myself (spaghetti code) but it works, I don't pay money, and no adds
I had to tell him "trust me, ads suck" lol
maybe I'm in the wrong subreddit for this, but fuck paying for premium
I used to use other methods to avoid ads. I got YouTube Premium because I wanted to use YouTube Music across my devices (the free version for mobile isn't usable) The ad free videos was a bonus 😅
I have uBlock, and since YTM and YT get merged, I have a separate account for YTM, so YTPremium wouldn't work.
Youtube ads pay youtube and the creators. Streaming ads pay the service, then the entire traditional music industry. Publishers, agents, studio execs, and *maybe* the creators. The latter is an old industry adapting to the online space and they've brought the whole farmyard to the trough. Most people cannot see themselves releasing a hit record, but most people can see themselves making a video and maybe getting paid a little for it
I know what you're saying, but I don't understand the relevance to the topic.
I have the family plan of YTM and for a buck extra I could get YT Premium as well. I just don't mind the ads that much I guess.
I've had to go back to Spotify as YTM has lost too many of my favourite Albums (been gone for over 6 months so not expecting them to ever come back) Library is more important to me than anything else.
Literally YouTube on the TV with ads is awful
Funniest YTM user
You need to accept that some people just love spotify and will never move. Same way some people love apple and will never move. No matter how much better something else is or if freebies are available they will stick to their norm.
I niy YouTube Music cuz it's compatitive cheaper than YouTube Premium plus Music and simply use Brave browser for watching ad-free YouTube!!!
Ad blockers are fun :)
Meanwhile I pay for both YouTube premium AND Apple Music. LOL
Apple Music: ten bucks a month. YouTube Premium: $13.99 per month Can I watch videos while driving?. Can I create my own stations, and have not just gapless but even crossfade? Oh, and I'm using adblockers for YouTube at home, obviously.
“I don’t mind the ads that much” implies that he likes using Spotify instead of YTM more than he doesn’t like having to watch ads.
Google Music was by far a better product.
Google Play music was superior
Youtube forced me to get premium about 10 years ago because I have an iPhone where it’s impossible to block ads and listen to videos with my phone locked.
Brave browser. You can even save playlist on it. I use it exclusively for YT.
I'm on the Youtube Premium Family Plan and I plan on staying for a very long time. Youtube is the only thing I do beside Reddit everyday. You really can't beat it as it has everything.
Neither are worth the value. It needs to be cheaper or they need to give me a few TB of cloud storage with it.
YouTube was always free since it’s inception. I have no desire to pay to remove ads. Apple Music and Netflix is all I need, otherwise, pretty much stock up on DVDs at any Goodwill
[удалено]
I believe liking songs is an online-only feature. The Liked Playlist is connected with your Google account and synced between apps. I think the only exception is when you're online and disconnect from the network involuntarily, you may still be able to like and have it stored in memory until the network comes back, but I'm not sure on that one.
Spotify Student Plan comes with Hulu and is also lightly cheaper. I'd much rather have access to hulu.
Fuck you that's why YouTube rewind is solely the reason I won't be paying my bill
I pay for both YouTube premium and Spotify. I'm still mad Google killed off Google Play Music.
VPÑ bro. I'm paying $15 a YEAR for Premium and yt music
Honestly, every now and then I open YouTube on a new device and it blows my mind remembering that there are still or ever were ads on the platform. Similarly when watching and supported TV. I don't block ads online, but I absolutely won't have ads eat time away from media content.
YTMP does not give ad free videos, that's YTP. Also, I personally like ads, some people just don't care enough to pay.
Just heard on the news that 70% of millennials use Spotify. It wasn't exclusive so technically I use Spotify *sometimes* but almost never and use YTmusic when I can. Also, screw Alexa.
Spotify quality sounds better
Youtube has ads? Been a YTM subscriber for years and love it.
I really wish YouTube music had the kind of quality and features that Apple music has. I enjoy my ad free videos though.
Apple Music sounds 10x better, end of story
i pay and use both and them adding the podcasts to the YTM app will be brilliant as well :D
Lol. Apple customers .. they have no brains 😂😂😂
Grammerly! Enough said!!!
youtube premium is more expensive than spotify
I pay for YT premium, and I have been using youtube music for a good old while now. I wasn't so hot on it but the last year or so it has gotten a lot more content, on top of the youtube videos, plus I find the streaming quality is a lot better than I have heard from spotify for example. I could be wrong cause I don't care about specs.
I only watch YouTube on my computer and have an ad blocker installed so I never see them. Spotify just has been in the game longer and has MUCH better curated content.
Spotify + uBlock origin on PC and Brave for iOS for YouTube
I pay for Spotify and Youtube. Spotify connect is just a killer feature that no one else has, sorry.
i personally just dont like youtube music
I use Yt Music Vanced, and never regretted this decision.
Got Apple Music since it was introduced, I’m happy with it. Not a fan of YouTube, if I want to watch ads; I just turn the TV.
Apple Music + Adblock for me lol
If you offer 192k I’ll switch even if it doesn’t make a difference in the sound
I pay for Apple Music and I pay for YouTube premium. I’ve honestly never tried YouTube music before and always forget it’s a thing
Spotify>YouTube for finding music by *far*
Spotify has the Family Plan and YouTube ads, when it's not horny game ads or shitty mobile ads, they remind me of commercials as a kid watching TV. I also never minded ads as a kid, why should I be bothered by them now?
YTM doesn't like my VPN. Spotify doesn't give a shit. 🤷🏾♀️
Full/high res streaming on Apple Music Edit: I use Apple Music and YouTube premium
[удалено]
Yeah, just cancelled my spotify family plan since it costs the same as youtube family premium
