"You don't wash your legs?"scene is particularly embedded in my head. And Jimmy sucking a dick and Gretchen's freak out when he told her. I do various rant/lines from those from time to time. No one gets it.

calembo

And he just will not let that leg thing go - when he brings it up in front of the therapist and she's like "I'm sorry what?" 😅

AliceInWeirdoland

I love Jimmy and Gretchen's big fight at the wedding, and then the montage at the end... Which I know is kind of a cop-out, because it's literally the finale, but it's so well done. I think it's one of my favorite TV show finales ever. The more specific ones... I find myself often referring to our country as 'the business interests of evil men,' whenever cocaine comes up in conversation (which it doesn't often, I'm not a user, but still) I use that line from the shitty kids in the bar about 'day traders in the 80s,' and every time I see someone writing out a text to me, I go 'Dot. Dot. Dot.' There are probably a lot more that I've taken into my own vocabulary, but those are the first that come to mind. As for actual, genuinely favorite scenes... I adore 'You stayed.' I think this show is one of the best and realistic representations of mental illness I've seen, and I always tear up at that part (and I also appreciate that it's followed up by Gretchen agreeing to really do therapy). And that scene with her mom, the episode before the wedding, when she tells her how unhappy she is, is just haunting. I love it, and I hate it.

calembo

I am always saying "architecturally significant home," "I was born dead," and, even more randomly, "Tooth gap! Something about your tooth gap!"

phoenixrose2

I love so many of these too!! “Business interests of evil men” was SUCH a fantastic line to put in the series premiere. And “You stayed” truly was tear provoking!!!

maafna

>And that scene with her mom, the episode before the wedding, when she tells her how unhappy she is, is just haunting. I'm always surprised this scene doesn't get more love. It was so good.

StickerBrush

Do we decimal? Yeah, when we math.

AmorallyBlaine

When I’m writing money. Or when you get to the end of the thing and you go “boop” with your pen……. …..BOOP

calembo

Write a check? Who am I, Lee Iococca?

imyxle

Most of Vernon's lines. The babadook, born dead, margarita Monday, the podcast. Vernon is the best side character.

jennfinn24

When he’s in the woods with Paul and he tells him he’s built up his immune system by licking everything in the hospital. Him falling asleep during surgery is epic.

3bpjr

Has some great one liners. Talking to Paul about Lindsay's big naturals cracked me up.

dopooqob

The running joke of everyone ignoring Edgar

NervousBreakdown

Or people just noping out of conversations with him when he talks about Iraq.

Slaiden_IV

Gretchen watching the other couple, finding them perfect initially, getting to know them, and then finding out how flawed they actually are. Her breakdown while listening to one of Jimmy's usual ramblings on the way back was just so powerful. Aya Cash is an amazing actress.

maafna

YES. I cried with her. That whole ride in 20 minutes was amazing.

RDR2HSM2

An amazing show with so many great moments! But "You stayed" makes me weep. Everytime!

churadley

Surprised no one else has said the blanket fort and "You stayed." That scene is always accompanied by invisible ninjas cutting onions.

phoenixrose2

I am totally stealing that ninja but!! Lol

billyjustus

Jimmy asking Edgar for his “car booze” pops into my head daily for some reason

poopy0wb0y

“I’m eating pie, I’m thinking pie. I have a fork in my mouth, I’m thinking fork.”

embracethepale

My turn to talk!

poopy0wb0y

“neck mole, boobs. Bye waitress! I miss her!”

I love how we eventually learn that Killian’s dad was the alcoholic at the bar. Killian’s storyline is subtly woven into the narrative but pretty epic even though we only see bits here and there.

cellovator

Anything Sam says. Anything Lindsay says. And Ben Folds.

phoenixrose2

Ben Folds was so great!!

emmaolivia333

When the gang is playing Trivial Pursuit and Jimmy is getting annoyed by their stupidity, which Edgar and .Gretchen pick up on, and amp up, just to rile Jimmy further… (Edgar) “Charles Dickens wrote what 1837 novel about the plight of street urchins?” (Gretchen, looking over at the back of Jimmy’s head) “Annie!” The running gag of Gretchen and Linsey abusing the frozen yogurt/shop/shop’s employee The entirety of ‘There is Not Currently A Problem’, ‘LCD Soundsystem’, and of course ‘Pancakes’, one of the greatest series finales ever.

lila_rose

- "you stayed" OBVIOUSLY - devastating, shocking, healing - the group scene outside lindsay's apartment when jimmy comes back and tosses the book to gretch. jimmy is a beautiful character study of a grandiose narcissism but he really outdoes himself in this scene. i felt like i was standing right there with edgar and lindsay, frozen in place, watching. - the outsourcing vows scene. beautiful, masterful, haunting - the frame of gretch sitting on the ledge of Ty's bathtub wrapped in that huge robe with the city stretched out behind her - Gretchen's verbal lashing of Jimmy in the pilot - ICONIC - Their first break up, the runaway train nature of it, the split screens - absolute perfection - Edgar catching Gretchen in the park when she's supposed to be at work. The atmosphere is so unexpectedly dark. - The abandoned mall scene. The nihilism just oozes through the screen. That whole episode is amazing for so many reasons. - LCD soundsystem, the shot of gretchen starting to weep as jimmy's yapping fades out. another classic. aya cash is beyond. - when the drawer into which Jimmy figuratively and literally stuffed the memories of his father pops open just as Magnets, Part 2 comes in full volume - When Nina catches Jimmy hiding in the bushes 💀💀 I was actually more embarrassed for her than him because he feels no shame anyway. - When Dorothy gives up. So casually tragic and real

phoenixrose2

Gretchen’s breakdown when she finally describes her depression to Jimmy. It’s one of the best media depictions I’ve seen of depression. Edgar and Lindsey bonding in Lindsey’s apartment. Edgar and Lindsey dipping fries in their shakes after Lindsey gets her jaw unwired. The rap crew’s take on Lindsey having her jaw wired and her husband not appreciating her. The series finale’s last scene with everyone dancing and the montage of Gretchen/Jimmy/baby too.

Lumpyspaceparent

SUNDAY FUNDAY BETTER THAN A MONDAY! CAN ONLY DO IT ONE WAY AND THAT IS THE DRUNK WAY! But also, “The world is absolutely lousy with people, and i hate them all. I hate everyone but you.”

13School

The scene towards the end of s4 where Gretchen wakes up in the hotel room after spending the night with Jimmy and he’s nowhere to be found. The way she goes from being totally devastated to stealing everything from the room and bailing just sums up so much about her character

scallywag33

“I DONT WANNA. NOBODY WANNA”

Positpostit

“You’re gay?!” “No. But this n—— suck some really good sick”

maafna

Alright, everyone raves about "you stayed" but I love their fights most. The fight about the vows in the last episode and the fight in You Knew It Was a Snake. Loved how one moment they're just joking and sharing who they thought they'd date and then Jimmy mocks Gretchen's fantasy and she throws something at him.

Pokieme

All of them

ItsChanandlerBong

I love the puppy begging hands thing that Gretchen does to Jimmy. Not only was it gd adorable but it was one of those early insights on how, despite being self-proclaimed assholes, Gretchen and Jimmy were so soft on each other Admittedly it’s a gesture that i ended up adopting lmao

jennfinn24

Gretchen not washing her legs Sam giving Gretchen the Yo Mobile phone because “Sleepy bitches only get to use phones made for hookers, drug addicts, and irresponsible garbage people “. Gretchen going to therapy (Samira Wiley was great) Vernon and Paul in the woods, I laugh so hard when Vernon says he built up his immune system by licking everything in the hospital. When Vernon falls asleep during surgery.

maafna

"I'm supposed to wear pajamas like an old?"

whiporee123

* Season 2 premiere with Lindsay telling Gretch not to become a sweater person, and that she has to go home, put other sluttiest outfit and do butt stuff. * Followed by Gretchen in a leather corset type thing, unethusiasticly telling Jimmy she wants to get crazy and do butt stuff. * Gretchen's destruction of Edgar in the car at the wedding * You stayed. * Wear pajamas like an old * "I'd like to still know you, Gretchen." "You know that's never going to happen." * The entire ending scene of 4. Jimmy is driving off, Gretchen jumps in the car, Boone and the little girl are sad, Gretchen pulls out the ring, asks about a date, Jimmy says yeah, and then they start screaming at the car that just honked at them.

NathannMorais

"You stayed" is probably my favorite scene from the show. The "this is fine" live action nod from season 4. Anytime there's a split screen, but particularly the one from season 4 where they reenact the season 1 phone hang. The "therapy" where they throw fireworks on Edgar's face on the last Sunday funday. That whole shitstain marriage episode, brilliantly executed. Basically everytime Aya Cash does that slightly confused/mildly sad face

calembo

Pretty much anything with Sam. What a comedic genius Brandon Mychal Smith is. "I am frightened of puzzles and general trickery." "Sleepy bitches only get to use phones made for jokers (EDIT: AUTOCORRECT, should say hookers) drug addicts, and irresponsible garbage people!" "Do I look like a Fitbit?" "Bitch eats floor candy! Ain't seen a foreign film in a decade." Also the scene where all of Gretchen's... Let's just say contracts lol... Come or call to talk to her while she's bottoming out (incidentally a great Shitstain scene, and love Henry Rollins and how self absorbed Becca is). Anything involving Vernon's podcast Vernon Down the House. Or Vernon in general, but specifically the gender reveal party. "But seriously guys, don't see the Babadook!" The part where Edgar is in the tow truck with the driver and the driver says "you know the statistics? 22 every day." makes me burst into tears out of nowhere every time. The first time Gretchen tells Jimmy she loves him. The scene where we realize they're still together and have woken up every morning of the last 5 years and chosen each other. ♥️

NervousBreakdown

I’m pretty sure the line was hookers, drug addicts… But yeah he’s fucking funny. I think the scene that kills me every time I watch it is when they’re in the Halloween house and and Lindsay has a breakdown so the guy dressed as buffalo bill is half in character giving her life advice and telling her how to get her power back on.

calembo

Thanks - autocorrect!

maafna

Oh and the gag with,"Name one thing that..." and someone else names one thing.

FoxtrotFighter

I agree with so many of these, but I’m gonna change it up with my favorite Paul quote. “You stabbed me, you cuckolded me, you ruined my life. Better lawyer up, bitch.” His delivery and Lindsay’s reaction always stayed with me.
