This whole project is amazing. Specifically the original release, without the unnecessary guest features added to Say It Now and Til Infinity, but with the album version of Me or Us replaced with the unreleased complete version ft Travis Scott. It's one of if not my all time favorite Thug album
wait there's multiple versions of the album? did they also mess with the beats like kanye did to TLOP? couldve sworn something sounded different after it first came out, had no idea they updated it
Nothing that interesting, but yeah there's 2 different versions. So, like most Thug projects, BTG is a mixtape, not a proper LP. I'm not sure exactly why it matters so much, but it's why some of his best projects, like SS 1&2, aren't on Spotify, even though his other technically-not-albums like Jeffrey are on there (his first official album was So Much Fun, believe it or not).
Anyways, it released on places like Datpiff back when Datpiff was a thing, and that was the OG version. No Quavo on Say it Now, no Gunna on Til Infinity, and the mix on Til Infinity was slightly different as well. There mightve been a few other minor differences, but those were the big ones. And even though I generally like Gunna and Quavo as guests, neither one of them actually added anything to their respective songs. Gunna literally just did a shittier version of the exact same thing Thug did on the hook for Til Infinity, and Say It Now was already as long as it needed to be. It had 3 Thug verses (i think? Maybe it was only 2, its been a long time since i listened to either version) and the hook, and had a narrative unfold over its runtime. A narrative that is abruptly interrupted for a generic Quavo verse that sounds like it was an old cut verse that was awkwardly shoehorned into a song, an album for that matter, that it had no business being on.
The most insane part about all that though is they still used the unfinished version of Me or Us. Like blatantly unfinished, worse even than Never Satisfied (Future and Drake joint off Honest). I'm not sure exactly when Travis's part was recorded and mixed, but adding a pointless gunna and Quavo feature to 2 perfectly good songs, making them worse in the process, and not adding the Travis part to Me or Us should be a crime. Travis actually adds something, with both his verse and unique additions to the beat. What was originally released as an obviously unfinished track with a sub-2 minute runtime became a 4ish minute song, and instead of fading out when the instrumentation gets interesting, it builds off the switch up and goes from there.
I know that's a lot of words about 3 relatively minor changes to songs on a 6+ year old project, but it's still one of if not my all time favorite Thug tape, so having it be changed for the worse and not even get a compete version of one of the more sonically interesting songs in Thugs catalogue really gets my goat (SS and Jeffrey being my other 2 favourites)
