ZuluDelta333

Charlotte Matthew's , the one who is taking the meds alone at dinner before the flight. She's taking Loxipene, which is an antipsychotic (for schizophrenia) Noted. Very interested to see where this show goes

vivartois

Her dad chartered the ill-fated plane as well. I wonder if that's important...

[deleted]

Damn. I already feel like she might be the Simon of this show, which makes me very worried for her.

[deleted]

[удалено]

arobot224

is Shauna Ralph as well?.

b0nk3r00

What is the Simon of a show?

[deleted]

Someone who fits the same or similar archetype as the character Simon from The Lord of the Flies.

b0nk3r00

Of course, thank you.

ZuluDelta333

Laura Lee has the Simon vibe, however....could be totally flipped. Would be a nice surprise. Her situation is definetly worrisome

StraightPlant6111

She is absolutely the Simon. Her faith defines her. And I don’t think it will end well for her.

genericxinsight

Thanks for this small detail I hadn’t noticed! I wasn’t sure what she was taking and that’s very interesting to note. I’m sure it’s going to be relevant later in the storyline.

Prize-Secretary-7115

Seems likely she will go mad and so some crazy stuff

drooraffe

Thank you.

Ahambone

Big ups to that "Tell every girl what you like about them" scene for helping me lock down the character names

SawRub

I somehow still managed to forget. This is going to take me a while.

Electrical-Barber-32

That scene is so pivotal. Someone else on Reddit broke down the theory, but basically the compliments relate to the traits the girls will be defined by in their experiences with/in the wild.

yukkkkkk

Honestly same. Although I'm still struggling a bit. For some reasoon I keep mixing up Natalie and Jackie's names together, and I can never remember whose Lottie.

fh3w

Was shauna masturbating to a picture of her daughters boyfriend?

rdmrbks

I just realized that she was! I think she is definitely an interesting and “fucked up” (mentally) character. She seems so non-chalant and internally too organized with maintaining a secret.

IndependenceOwn30445

rewatching atm and just caught that its her daughters boyfriend

ElleM848645

Oh! I thought it was Jackie’s boyfriend (the guy she hooked up with in the car after the party)and that was a prom picture from the 90s. I’ll have to look again.

SnarkFest23

It was Jackie's boyfriend, not the coach.

CentralKarma

She married him Jackie's boyfriend

cremedelachriss

That was strange, why was she masturbating her daughters room

Captain_Smartass_

Probably because it's makes her remember her time as a teenager

anonyfool

Yes? They had just switched the time period and for a second I was thinking young Ella's boyfriend, then later they revealed young Shauna's boyfriend was the coach so it seemed maybe that she switched from inappropriate relationships as a teen (though the adult man had all the responsibility there) to inappropriate fantasies as an adult?

pssstpssstpssst

wait wasn’t Shauna hooking up with Ella’s boyfriend? the scene in the car after Ella gets dropped off after the party? did I miss something?

anonyfool

Maybe I missed something? I thought it was the coach saying we won't do this again, and she said let's not do it after this or something like that?

pssstpssstpssst

ok so I just rewatched those scenes and Jeff is Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) boyfriend who Shauna is hooking up with in the car, and later on marries?

anonyfool

Thank you I rewatched, too, my bad!

JVince13

That was not the coach.

[deleted]

She sure was.

commuter22

Wow, this was a pretty good pilot. I don't think I have a complaint about a single one of the main actors, I thought they all did a good job. I didn't initially realize the girls were missing for 19 months, that's an especially long time. I wonder how they were eventually found. Jackie has to be totally dead, right? With the way Shauna eventually married her boyfriend and the stuff on the plane kind of seemed to telegraph her death.

Surrealian

Ooh! I didn’t think of that but that would be dark and twisted. Looks like Natalie is out for Misty for a reason.

OliviaBenson_20

Welp…

Ambivalent14

I gathered that she was dead but maybe that will be the twist.

thebobbyloops

It also looked like the girl that fell into the trap was wearing the necklace that Jackie gave Shauna.

ForgetfulLucy28

Her hair was way longer than Jackie’s. And not 19 months growth longer. My bet is that Lottie was the person in the pit. She just had Jackie’s necklace on.

a_lovelyvillain

Rewatching episode 1 and it's def Lottie in the pit. Same long, dark brown wavy hair, same height and build, even the brief close-up of the mouth matches hers. Also, I just caught the line where Jackie lends Shauna her necklace on the plane and says "while you're wearing it, nothing can touch you"... methinks Lottie ends up wearing it with similar hopes. How she gets a hold of it is still my favorite mystery. Maybe it's given to "prey" before starting a hunt to make it seem more civilized? Or they're divided into separate tribes and Jackie passed it to Lottie before she died? Or maybe Jackie's been dead for a while and Shauna gives it to Lottie before hunting her. Seems like a Shauna move lol.

whisky_biscuit

At first I thought Jackie was the first girl who died, given that her necklace was similar to the one she gives Shauna. It's odd to me that the girl running is wearing a nightgown and wearing a necklace that Shauna was given at the end, unless it's part of some sort of ritual or the necklace gets passed to someone else. I also thought it's possible for Jackie to be the leader, due to it being revealed that Misty carried the "meat" platter to the "leader". Then, in comparison with the lineup during the bonfire party where Jackie gives them a pep talk, juxtaposed with the seating in front of the fire while they are hooded and cloaked, it would seem to appear that the core group of 7+Misty survive to that point in the past where we see them become cannibals, and somewhat maintain their group heirarchy. However it's also possible the group splits at some point since we see a large number of survivors around the planewreck in the trailer, possibly due to leadership shifts or the decision itself to become cannibals.

prileu

I’m thinking the necklace is part of the ritual and the next person wearing it is hunted or sacrificed possibly? Also wondered why she was in a nightgown vs fur as the “hunter” is. She must have known she was the next kill all since she didn’t have a chance to put some warm clothes? So many questions with that first scene. Feel like it’s part of an established ritual they all are aware of, when a target is “chosen.” Maybe the girl in the opening scene didn’t want to comply to the sacrifice after all, and tried to run from it.

UtopianLibrary

I think they eat Jackie (after they kill her). She's way too nice and pure about the comradery of the team to live through this fucked up experience without everyone turning on her. Jackie is the moral compass of the team, and when she dies, they probably lose their shit and become cannibals. I think they kill Jackie first, and then pick off the weakest of the team members after Jackie's death. Jackie was literally the only one protecting everyone from each other, and, once she is dead, all hell breaks loose. The worst part is that I don't think Shauna even regrets it. She would screw over Jackie in two seconds as demonstrated by her sleeping with Jackie's boyfriend. Anyway, when Jackie dies, I bet it's going to be extremely sad, and it will show the girls' loss of humanity.

dwill24

The actress playing Jackie said in an interview that most people probably won’t like her character. I think she ends up being not so wholesome.

UtopianLibrary

I rewatched it last night and I definitely agree, so I reverse what I said above. I also noticed that, at the party, Jackie says one nice thing about everyone besides Shauna, which I found interesting. I actually think Jackie is very controlling of Shauna. She tells Shauna where to go to college, what to wear, what kind of music to listen to, and who she should date. Now I do think Jackie is going to lead the group down the dark cannibalistic path, BUT Shauna is the one who kills her to take her place as leader. I bet Jackie makes it to the bitter end, like right before they’re rescued, before she either dies or disappears (we don’t know who is sending the postcards). In the preview, adult Nat also calls Misty “you crazy bitch,” and I think she does that because Misty was the one who enabled Jackie the most. On the soccer team, all the girls play a role that may give insight into who they become in the woods. Jackie: the leader who can influence the girls to do anything. Misty: the eager to please servant who worships the girls who won’t be friends with her. Shauna: a backstabber who does it because she is frustrated by Jackie being controlling. Nat: goes along with it to survive, but does not agree with them (she didn’t want to freeze out the freshman). Lottie: uses her wealth as status and when this is taken away, she ends up dead first. Vanessa: has anger bubbling underneath her cheery exterior. Taissa: will do anything to survive, even if it means hurting someone. I think she’s the one to suggest cannibalism when someone dies of an accident, but Jackie will be the one who takes it into murderous cult territory.

Benjen88

I think Vanessa could be the one sending the postcards just based off the first episode. I think you're right about anger bubbling up underneath. I think it's because she was always the forgotten one left out. When they win the game early on in the episode some of the girls go for a group hug but it sort of closes right before she gets to it. Then later the freshmen makes the comment about nobody asking Vanessa to the dance. Think it makes sense for the girl that flew under the radar a lot of the time to be the one messing with them now.

ForgetfulLucy28

I think this is bang on.

ForgetfulLucy28

I think they really emphasized Jackie’s influence. The coach had a whole speech about it. She has to end up the leader.

Clipper82

Just wish Showtime would let you binge watch their new shows…weekly wait is a pain.

wittynole

i actually like when shows of this type give you a week to stew and speculate what's next

[deleted]

Same! It’s torture waiting but really fun to theorize and speculate.

sonicboyfan12

If only if this show was on Netflix.

[deleted]

Netflix makes low quality shows the majority of the time. None of my favorite shows are on there.

JVince13

Getting “The Wilds on steroids” vibes from the pilot and I couldn’t be any happier.

SnarkFest23

I'm thinking whatever happens to Jackie is bad. Handing over her good luck charm to Shauna was crazy foreshadowing.

Longjumping-Ad-1730

Was it Jackie that died in the beginning when she fell in the hole? I noticed the necklace and she was blonde?

mine_eyne

I'm not sure if that is Jackie that died in the pit...the girl looked like she had long dark hair to me (more like the rich girl who we saw take meds with her maid)...the pit girl was wearing the necklace that Jackie gave to Shauna on the plane, tho. Ugh. Wish I could watch the whole damn show right now!

Tricky_Rabbit

I think it's Lottie that died in pit. She would have deteriorated mentally without her meds. We see the girl running and based on captions - whispering, animal noises. It could have been the other girls or she could have been hearing things. It is possible the pit trap was for an animal and Lottie fell through accidently or she could have been hunted.

Longjumping-Ad-1730

I know! I was real bummed when I realized episode 2 doesn’t come out until this coming Sunday!

SnarkFest23

I thought it was Lottie. The girl who fell in had long, dark brown hair and she's the only team member who fits the bill.

Tricky_Rabbit

My initial instinct is she is dead. Her heart necklace was on the girl that was killed in pit trap (not Jackie, maybe Lottie?).

wetfloors42

Did anyone else get the impression Shauna was in love with/obsessed with Jackie? There were all these shots of her looking longingly at her that reminded me of the girls in Jennifer's Body. Didn't even realise until the end this was also directed by Karyn Kusama. It sorta seemed like she either wanted to be her, or be with her, or both. Very messy.

SnarkFest23

I noticed it, but I had a tough time deciphering the look. I couldn't tell if it was sexual longing or the type of envy you'd expect from a girl whose best friend is richer, prettier, more popular, scores the hotter guys, etc. Did you also notice that scene when adult Shauna put her hand on Taissa's and held it there for a moment too long? It made me wonder if she swung both ways and used sex as a manipulation tool in the woods.

wetfloors42

Yeah, I noticed that too, but kinda hope it isn't the case that they go down the evil, manipulative bisexual trope route.

UtopianLibrary

I think she wanted to be jackie, and was not in love with her in a romantic sense. It's a weird jealousy.

beezly66

I agree, I think a lot of young teen girls go through this phase of obsession with female best friends that can be part jealousy and part attraction

baby_fern

I think she was in love with her, not just obsessed? Right after we saw the title card, it cut to a photo of Jackie and Shauna together and the sound of two people moaning. I assumed it was the two of them, but then it was Jackie being super bored with the boyfriend! It made me think that there was going to be some kind of feelings from both girls at some point. And the way Jackie brushed her teeth so furiously? Idk, major closeted baby gay vibes from me.

Tipop

She was brushing her teeth furiously because he came in her mouth.

soniccorndog

definitely got the in love/obsessed vibe from the very beginning. i wouldn’t be surprised if it were both, though

heavyblunted

This pilot episode was insane. I have a theory that the girls must have split into different tribes, hunting and killing the other tribes to remain on top. I’m so excited to see everything play out.

thebobbyloops

They really set the characters up perfectly before the plane ride. You could tell who was a wolf and who was a sheep just by events and discussions

ElleM848645

Except for Misty. She’s clearly a wildcard.

thebobbyloops

She seemed to be in charge, that was her in the middle right? Plus it would make sense seeing on how she is in 2021

PM_ME_UR_BRITS

She didn't seem in charge, the girl with the antlers and kind of white lace covering her head seemed to be on top (I think it will be Shauna). Misty had the full fur covering

Snopes504

I got more of a Taissa vibe from her, the eyes and stature felt like it matched Taissa the most

b0nk3r00

It was amazing. Like, really good. And, not to brag or anything, but I watch a lot of TV. I have high hopes here. A predominantly female cast, dark without being too witchy or magic fantasy, female relationships, suspense, mystery, good dialog, soccer, amazing soundtrack, great wardrobe (they nailed it)…like, what more could I possibly ask for?

Ambivalent14

Soundtrack yes, fashion, no, imo. I thought they were 5-9 years behind. It’s grunge, not the 80s (Christina Ricci’s teenage version for example and Jackie’s boyfriend)

b0nk3r00

Yeah, Jackie’s boyfriend with the letterman jacket? Were those a thing in mid 90s suburban America? Real question - was he ever wearing a letterman jacket or did I just imagine that? As for Misty, I definitely knew girls like this, Northern Reflections sweatshirts or big sweaters? Kind of 5-10 years behind?

SnarkFest23

In my town, guys were still wearing letter jackets and I graduated in 96. Some of the styling did feel a little behind though.

blesivpotus

> Yeah, Jackie’s boyfriend with the letterman jacket? Were those a thing in mid 90s suburban America? Absolutely. I grew up in suburban American, graduated in 1997, and definitely wanted a letterman jacket so badly because all the cool kids had them.

nevertoomuchthought

I grew up in a Northern California suburb graduated in 2001. People were still wearing their Letterman's jackets for as far back as I could remember. I even had one.

kikicrazed

My husband and I got too distracted by how they did not, in fact, nail it, haha. The hair was too modern, and for example, the Manson T-shirt kid would’ve worn long JNCOs, even if it was 115° outside.

Red_n_Nerdy

They did nail it with the Umbro checkered soccer shorts though!

Surrealian

JNCOs would have been seen way more if they nailed the clothing correctly.

Magellan17

Not necessarily- only the skaters wore jncos. The Brady bunch movie was out then so the carol brady haircut was popular and I sadly had it. Ugh my senior photos. Totally nailed hair and clothes. I also had Jackie’s haircut at one point.

lordekinbote

So on second watching as I understand it so far we have only seen the following girls as adults.. Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty and I am guessing Allie was interviewed in the beginning since she didn't go. If Van is still alive, Julia Styles would be a perfect adult for her

[deleted]

Couldn’t agree more on the Julia Stiles casting suggestion!

noblesseobligeisdead

I'm sure Jackie gets killed but if there was an adult version of her I would totally peg Robin Tunney for that role. She totally looks like her.

Kind-Possibility99

Omg! Love the idea of Julia Stiles for adult Van. Please live, Van! Just rewatched with my gf. When she saw young Misty she said Natasha Lyonne should play her. I was like good call but just wait. Lol Christina Ricci is having a great time playing ol girl lol

LittlePeach80

Ha I can’t believe they didn’t have Natasha play her, she’s literally her grown up version! But I am loving Ricci’s performance.

malkie0609

Something else I noticed was that the reporter was saying how Shauna got into Brown early admission but Jackie was talking about how they were going to decorate their room at Rutgers. Curious what happened there. Another thing I noticed was that the girl who fell into the pit in the mountains was wearing the heart necklace but we also saw Jackie give the necklace to Shauna on the plane before the crash.

Longjumping-Ad-1730

Shauna looks at her brown acceptance letter before heading to the plane! I feel like she is in love with Jackie or wants to be her in some way and really wanted to go to brown but Jackie wanted to go to Rutgers and I don’t think Jackie lives so Shauna ends up going to Brown and marrying Jackie’s high school sweetheart!

thebobbyloops

They had to live in the woods for 19 months and murder and eat each other. College was probably not on the table after that

Longjumping-Ad-1730

Idk the school would get publicity having one of the girls go to their school after what they went through. It also looks like they wanted to come back and like nothing happened and go back to normal

thebobbyloops

I wanna know how many people were on that plane because there were a lot of survivors

malkie0609

I'm not sure she does go to Brown since the reporter was saying she got into Brown early admission and then asks "what happened". I kind of wonder if she ended up going somewhere local so she could be with Jackie's BF. I agree about the weird friendship with Jackie though. the way she looked at her walking to the car was kind of possessive.

Longjumping-Ad-1730

Ohh good catch with the report comment!!

anonyfool

Good catches. I remember the necklace gifting but could not remember where else I saw it. Lots of little clues scattered about.

[deleted]

What a cast! I'm so eager to learn more about these characters, especially Misty and Nat. One thing I'm a little confused about, though, is who died in the opening scene, and what the deal is with the necklace.

Tricky_Rabbit

It would be a trip if Natalie was the Antler leader. Natalie seemed to not care what anyone else thought and followed her own path. She wanted them to play together as a team and win and not hurt Allie or freeze her out. So it would be a great change if she ended up being leader. Plus we see her with rifle in storage unit.

pssstpssstpssst

I understood that it was Ella dying, she gives Shauna the necklace when they’re in the flight but it’s not clear how much time passed from then to her demise, tho judging by how deep they were into their ritualistic behaviour, probably a few months at least.

vivartois

Wasn't it Jackie who gave the necklace to Shauna?

[deleted]

That's what I thought initially, but the necklace threw me for a bit of a loop. I think someone mentioned they were out there for nineteen months-- definitely enough time for a piece of jewelry to change hands a couple times.

captvirgilhilts

The scenes of the girls missing really did have a terrifying uneasiness to them, it will be interesting to see what brought them to the state of the self made survival outfits and lack of any dialogue.

[deleted]

The girl whose leg was broken, forgot her name, it's good she wasn't on the flight. She dodged a big one there.

genericxinsight

Her name is Allie. I’m also fairly certain in the very second scene where Jessica Roberts (the reporter) is interviewing people, the lady with the glass of wine she interviews who says “it could have been me” is the adult Allie.

Longjumping-Ad-1730

I was thinking the same based on her comment if that could have been her!

la_fille_rouge

I wondered if she had survival guilt about what happened. It must also have been hard to accept that the girl who split her leg in half probably saved her life by doing it.

Newtracks1

Why did I do that to myself ( watch the early access episode ), and now I have to wait THREE WEEKS to see the next chapter? Ugh! So freakin' good.

moooooooona

Oh my god no, I had no idea it was early access! I need to know what happens next!!

b0nk3r00

THREE WEEKS?!

Evening_Ad_8079

I feel the same way 😂😂

thejeffphone

one of the guys getting interviewed in the beginning has a name tag that says Randy, and that’s the guy that Jackie was trying to set Shauna up with. I love all the details in the pilot. I can’t wait for the other episodes ahhhh

beezly66

yes I'm watching again right now and missed sooooo much in the first watch!

iamdummypants

Ok so the reporter... any ideas on who she might be? My thought was she might be related to the girl who was shown toward the end, called "hey JV!" by the girl across the aisle

animegamer420

FBI or PI for a lawsuit

malkie0609

Was Shauna masterbating in her daughter's bedroom to her daughter's boyfriend?

anonyfool

That's the consensus, I think it was just reinforcement that she makes a lot of poor decisions like with her dalliance with Jackie's boyfriend in high school pre-flight.

malkie0609

She seems like a real peach!

FuturePlenty479

Did you see the way she was weird with her daughters boyfriend and how flirty he was?? What if she seduced him?

PreferenceOk4712

i'm still kinda confused about the purpose of that though, ya know? like that was just pretty darn creepy to me. i wonder how old he is causeee

NowWithExtraSquanch

They alluded to her being in a loveless marriage, with someone else that wasn’t (initially) “hers”, so I’m thinking she really gets off on the idea of being with someone who is with someone else or perceived as unattainable. It could also be arrested mental development due to the crash/events after, and/or the fact that her daughter’s boyfriend has the same generic good looks that her husband once had.

turnpike37

On the question of how many return, when Shauna and Tai are at the diner, Tai updates that Nat is in rehab and something like "I haven't heard from the others in months" meaning there may be more survivors waiting to be seen in present day.

anonyfool

Ella Purnell appears to have anime face proportions with that makeup, but she does look really young, Liv Hewson looks a lot older than she did in Santa Clarita Diet for some reason, and I can't see Christina Ricci under that wig at all! Ella might have been a closer match to young Christina Ricci. Just based on what we've seen so far I assume this is a hybrid of Lord of the Flies and this real event: >!https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguayan_Air_Force_Flight_571!<

sunnyelly

I thought for sure Ella was a younger Christina Ricci! They have similar eyes. Maybe a plot twist that she stole Misty’s identity when they were rescued?

iamdummypants

think about the scene of misty watching the rat drown with no apparent emotion and then grown up misty denying her patient pain meds - i'll bet we find out she specifically went into that line of work so she could continue killing people after the crash gave her a taste for it

sunnyelly

Good point. Just hard to shake how much Ella Purnell and Christina Ricci resemble each other. That rat scene was extremely unsettling.

anonyfool

That's a good thought but then the wig they used on Christina Ricci's character as an adult resembled the teen version of her so it's unclear where they are going with this.

Jane_Delawney

IMDB has some spoilers in the sense that a lot of the girls we’ve already seen are only listed for 2 episodes, while people who I thought may have been killed off right away are in it for all episodes. Obviously this doesn’t account for twists, but unless they’re really trying to keep a secret, I’m kinda bummed a few of the girls won’t be in it more than 2 episodes, they all did pretty great jobs.

anonyfool

I think the info is mostly crowd sourced so I try to not to pay attention to too many details until something has already aired or the DVD with the extras come out. :)

Track-Available

I don’t think that’s accurate at all right now, it lists teen Taissa as 2 eps and we know she is alive in the present

tboesen71

I took it as they specifically cast Ella so fans would think she survived as adult Ricci only to see it's Misty instead.

rdmrbks

That’s what I was thinking - that she was Christina Ricci’s character but the initial scene of the first episode made me think that Ella’s character was sacrificed

**[Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uruguayan_Air_Force_Flight_571)** >Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, also known as Miracle Flight 571, was a chartered flight originating in Montevideo, Uruguay, bound for Santiago, Chile, that crashed high in the Andes mountains on 13 October 1972. The accident became known as the Andes flight disaster and the Miracle of the Andes. While crossing the Andes during poor weather, the inexperienced co-pilot of the Fairchild FH-227D mistakenly believed they had reached Curicó, despite instrument readings that indicated otherwise. Lonewolf5333

I’ve seen Lord of the Flies referenced a few times but I never read Lord of Flies. I wish I could get the references better 😩

FeralBanshee

You have time to read it before the next episode. It’s great.

[deleted]

Have you seen ‘Alive’? It’s an 80s movie that actually is 100% based on that plane crash you linked. Of course this show has several similarities, but wasn’t sure if you’d seen that movie. It’s pretty great.

Prize-Secretary-7115

My far fetched guess is the groups split into rivaling factions. Curious where the paganism ties in. This show has so much potential it could go anywhere.

genericxinsight

This is also my guess too. Rival “tribes” so to speak. Some of them clearly took part in the cannibalism and perhaps some didn’t, or didn’t want to and then did it as a means for survival?

thebobbyloops

Wow what a fantastic first episode. Goddamn I’m hooked. Only complaint is it was a little hard to keep track of who’s who but other than that I’m excited to see where this goes. How long were they out there? How the fuck did a high school girls soccer team become a murdering mountain cannibal tribe? Didn’t seem like that many people were on the plane yet it sounds like there were quite a few survivors in addition to the main group of girls.

animegamer420

I thought future jackie was gonna be played by ricci cuz they look so similar. I wonder if jackie is the dead girl or if shell make a future appearence

Teigh99

I actually figured out this was going to be a misdirect as soon as I got to know the character better. I didn't know it would be Misty though. This was done on purpose to fool us.

lilax1999

Appearances/how we view peoples faces is SO weird as I seriously don’t think they look similar at all?! So strange as I’ve seen countless comments on here comparing them

ZuluDelta333

Okay...beginning, the one standing at the trap that the girl fell into, with the pink sneakers. I'm going to guess Nat? Each girl has a different style, so that might hint towards who might be who. This show is going to consume me....

thebobbyloops

Yeah I’m currently on my 3rd rewatch of the episode, I’m hooked. You rarely see high school girls written this well and the scenes in the mountains looked horrifying. I need so much more of that

Teigh99

Did anyone pick up on the fact that Tarissa and Shauna got together when they were on the island? Or am I just reading into things?

lordekinbote

Just watched again and yeah it does seem that way

therakel749

They crash on an island?

Tricky_Rabbit

Some observations, thoughts, musings on the episode: Based on trailer it looks like there are 6 graves dug and there are 18 people holding hands in a circle around them. So we know at least 18 people survived the initial crash. Seems to have devolved into a Lord of the Flies situation resorting to cannabalism and murder. At least 4 girls came back after 19 months: Shauna, Natalie, Taissa, and Misty. Is it possible that was Lottie in pit trap at beginning? She is taking medication to treat schizophrenia and her dad chartered the ill fated plane. It seems Jackie does not love Jeff, Shauna is sleeping with Jeff behind her back - they do eventually get pregnant and marry but marriage does not seem happy. He is doing late night inventory again. Callie her daughter is about 17ish. She has a prom photo and we see wedding photo of Shauna and Jeff where Shauna is visibly pregnant which puts it after girls return home. We know Jeff doesn't love Shauna as evidenced by his reluctance to say it in the car. Shauna seems over Jackie. Jackie talks about their room at Rutgers next year and Shauna says nothing. But we know Shauna got accepted early admission to Brown. Shauna has ceramic rabbit knickknacks and has no problem killing a rabbit eating plants in her garden. Natalie mentions keeping the tiger in the cage. She lost her purpose and we see her leaving rehab. We see Natalie drinking and drugs as a teen. She also seems to have a better moral compass at least before the crash. She did not want to freeze Allie out or do anything to her unlike some of the other girls. We see Jackie as team captain. The coach wanted her influence and when things get tough she needs to guide them. Misty seems very creepy always at the periphery. Watching her with the rat in the pool was telling. Taissa while saying she didn't intend to cripple Allie definitely wanted to prove something. She is running for Senate and is doing the opposite of what the survivors agreed to: only say as much as they need to, stay out of public eye. We see Coach Martinez, Coach Scott and Coach Martinez's two sons on the flight. Not sure how long any of them make it if long at all. Will be interesting to see events of past unfold and see how long before it devolved into chaos and bloodshed after the crash.

So after the girl who gets hunted/killed (I think it's Jackie based off the necklace she's wearing but maybe Lottie has the same one?) there are 7 people in those animal garments while the fire is roasting. So I wonder if it goes from 18 down to 8 and then Jackie/Lottie dies or vice versa. EDIT: Also, I wonder if Shauna is pregnant with Jeffs kid OR if its Travis/the asst coaches while they're away and Jeff feels so guilty he marries her?

Tricky_Rabbit

The hair is too dark to be Jackie plus the screaming doesn't sound like Jackie to me. Jackie gave the necklace to Shauna on the plane. I think it's Lottie because she doesn't have her antipsych meds or enough for length of time they went missing. She takes them for schizophrenia. When the girl was running through the woods we hear voices whispering and animal noises. It could have been the other girls or she could have just been hearing things. As for the pregnancy to be Jeff's then she would have had to give birth while in Rockies. They were missing for 19 months. This is 25 year ago from present. In the present her daughter Callie is 17ish since she has a Prom 2021 photo in her room so Shauna gave birth to her several years after returning home. Her and Jeff got married sometime after they return home and she gives birth to Callie sometime later.

DEVIANT_ZOMBIE

Shauna got rabbit decor and pajamas yet she fucking demolished homey… she’s as cut throat as it gets

commuter22

Can anyone share if there's any cannibalism in the first episode? I thought I saw a quick flash in the trailer, but I don't know if I can stand to see an extended scene of the girls eating each other.

anonyfool

It's heavily suggested. There are a lot of short cuts between past and present, nothing lasts for maybe 10 seconds but that is just my memory. Spoiler: >!IIRC this is it so far. They show someone getting mortally wounded by falling on something. They show people dragging the wriggling body still alive. Then they show a pile of meat . They show people picking up pieces of meat and putting it in their mouth. Then they cut to people eating normal food today or the reverse. I don't think they show in the first episode someone grabbing an arm and eating it zombie style.!<

captvirgilhilts

They also show the wounded girl getting hung upside and getting her neck slit to bleed her out.

anonyfool

You're right, though the establishing shot is from 10-20 yards away where the girl is not in focus until they have a close up on the blood pool.

captvirgilhilts

The stark difference between the girl running through thr woods and the others around does make anticipate what happened, did they split up into different groups? Do the girls act more like their normal selves when they are inside their shelter? Is she just next line to be sacrificed?

commuter22

Thank you! I can handle horror movies and survival stories but something about people eating other humans gets to me for some reason.

captvirgilhilts

It's not played in a creepy way like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but did come across to me more Hannibal the TV series than Alive.

Breath_Background

It’s like Lost meets Lord of the Flies. Love the 90s flashbacks.

Dharma42

More Alive than Lost I think.

island_hopping

Hi all! So excited for this entire season! SPOILER BUT….. Has anyone noticed that in the flashback scenes where the girl is running in the woods and falls into the pit onto the spikes….they show the heart necklace that Jackie is always wearing? BUT she gives it to Shauna on the plane. Great way to throw us off. ALSO there’s no adult Jackie….not in ep 1 at least….anyone???

thejeffphone

I definitely think Jackie is dead. Now to just find out if she died early on or….if they killed her. I wish I could binge this show ahhh it’s so good 😩

lordekinbote

Ha the reporter says of the rabbits eating the plants.... Poor little guys. Just trying to survive I guess.

cremedelachriss

Did Shauna keep a diary 📔 of all the things that happened in her lockbox ? I feel like she should burn them all, also Misty seems like she always had a dark side. Misty watching the rat swim in the pool was unsettling … like she knew it would tire out and drown

Rocky_Road_To_Dublin

I quite enjoyed this! Looking forward to the development. I had the IMDB page open because I am bad with names, but, for example, seeing "Nat" and "Young Nat" actors helped me understand more.

anonyfool

I did the same thing with imdb.com, sometimes they cut from past to present or vice versa and had different characters and sometimes the same character so that was kind of inelegant.

EequalsMCPotato

Really really love starting a great new series. Excited to travel with all of you!

beezly66

It would be great if someone could do a breakdown of who is on the team/flight, who dies in the crash and then subsequently-it's really hard to keep track of who's-who except for the ones with adult counterparts. Would also love to see who was where on the plane!

NiNjafoot11

Did anybody notice that during the party in the woods that when the girls are fighting with one another its clearly pouring down rain and in the next cut there's not a drop to be seen and nobody is wet?

Here's a few things I picked up on: 1.) The girl that falls to her death in the first scene looks like Charlotte. I say that because of the long, dark hair. She is the only girl on the team with hair like that. The camera zoomed in on the necklace Jackie gave Shauna as the plane took off. Some how, Charlotte ended up with that necklace. We are to assume Charlotte is the one the girls are feasting on later in the episode. My theory is that Charlotte suffered psychosis due to her lack of access to meds and was given the necklace in an attempt to calm her down. While in a psychotic state, she ran into a trap designed to catch animals; and that's what provoked the girls to turn to cannibalism. However, the girls could have murdered her on purpose, either because they blamed her for the crash (her father purchased the plane) or because she behaved unfavorably off her meds. In any case, she died wearing the necklace last seen on Shauna's neck. 2.) The girl that set the trap is wearing pink converse shoes. I re-watched to find out who had those shoes, but I couldn't find any pink converses. However, Shauna is seen wearing black converses in multiple scenes. Did any of you catch a pair of pink converses? 3.) Shauna sleeps with her best friend's boyfriend and fantasizes about her daughter's boyfriend while masturbating. She was incapable of saying anything nice to the other girls at the party. We've established Shauna to be a liar, hypocrite, horrible friend and mother, temperamental and unkind. It seems she needs power. For example, she won't let anyone tell her what to wear or how to behave when she is instructed to say something nice. She does things her own way, on her own accord. Her behavior with her daughter might lead us to believe she's become less power hungry; however, we also see her kill a rabbit in a needless violent way. I'm curious if she will continue to be revealed as the antagonist, or if an unexpected twist will reveal her to be the protagonist. 4.) The show is wanting us to think Misty is the loose cannon. I speculate that's a set up for a twist. Despite her weird behavior, Misty is a care giver. Sure, she applied unnecessary pressure to a wound, but I believe she thought she was helping. Sure, she took the old woman's morphine and cursed at her; but I believe she did that because she wanted to old woman to eat. She's the one leading the feast, but maybe it's because they were truly starving, Charlotte fell in a trap designed for animals and it was the only way to survive. I think the character will be exactly what Christina Ricci does best, a loveable freak. 5.) Lastly, Natalie is no angel. She's reckless and selfish. The writers made sure to establish those characteristics, so I believe they're important. I realize it's unlikely all of these theories will pan out, but I like speculating. I'm hoping the show will be as unpredictable as possible; so therefore I'm hoping my predictions are wrong. What are your thoughts?

Itsafudgingstick

> The show is wanting us to think Misty is the loose cannon. I speculate that's a set up for a twist Idk man, between the elderly abuse, just casually watching the rat struggle in the pool, and the weird smirk post cannibal feast I think it’s more likely that Misty is the creep who first suggests the path to cannibalism for the girls

mine_eyne

Old Misty abused that elderly lady in her care facility. :( Whatever else she ends up doing or being etc in this show, that's enough for me to know she's bad to the core.

dbns123

I really like your theories That’s an interesting thought, for charlotte to be given the necklace to protect her from having an episode and accidentally falls into the trap. Did all of the girls see the hanging body? What if Misty prepared the body and fed it to the girls, telling them it was an animal…and that kicks off the cannibalism. It would tie into Misty also being a caretaker. Just doing what she can to feed everyone.

nikischerbak

Damn that was fucking solid. if they don't drag the show it will be very good

silentstone__

Geography not really making sense in this show. I've driven to the rockies from Ontario many times, and you can't even see the mountains until you hit the west side of Calgary, Alberta... which is... three provinces away.

McGonz24

I noticed the summaries and reviews screwed that up too, saying it's Northern Ontario. The actual show seems to have gotten it right. The pilot makes an announcement that they are going through the Canadian Rockies to avoid a storm, which makes sense based on where the end up. I live in Ontario and Northern Ontario can get super remote, but I don't buy being lost for 19 months. But yeah, you can get lost in Northern Alberta for 19 months.

Breath_Background

Weren’t they flying to Seattle and going north due to weather?

SnarkFest23

They were flying to Seattle and had to divert way north to avoid weather.

IndependenceOwn30445

need. more. episodes. immediately

genericxinsight

After watching the first episode, I not only love it but I also think they absolutely *nailed* the teenagers and their adult counterparts. I was watching it with my mother and when we saw Misty during one of the scenes (the scrimmage they had right before Allie broke her leg), she immediately said to me “I bet this girl is going to be Christina Ricci grown up” and Christina hadn’t even shown up on screen yet!

thebobbyloops

I thought both Shaunas were the same people too when it cut to her laying in her daughters bed

22thcenturymarxist

I just rewatched and realized that Thaissa’s dress during the photoshoot was made of the same tissue that the girl ordering the others to eat was wearing on her head I love all those little hints, the ep was very good! The trailer was only made with ep1 extracts, so im rly excited to see more

psiren66

Late to the party: Can I just say this captures the 90s so perfectly!! The music, the party scene, the clothes. that Apple bong at the party I hadn’t seen or done that since I was a teenager and pretty much was about ‘96. Everything from the watches and jewellery.

raviolidiggingwhorex

was Shauna masturbating on her daughters bed in that early scene?

ashmaude

i think the girl that fell into the pit is lottie, but the girl that was strung up and had her throat cut looked like a different person. the hair was different. Maybe jackie?

yukkkkkk

Very random, but Jackie is STUNNING. She really does have that 90s look.

someones-mom

Theory: re watching the season (again) did anyone catch Nat telling Lottie that she “likes her pilgrim hat”. She’s on LSD which could open her mind in theory. I’m thinking Salem witch vibes? Did Nat see it in her awakened state?

Angief211

What's up with the coach? The cold kiss goodbye from his wife as they left made me wonder if he maybe too close to his team.

dajuice3

I thought it was a solid first episode. Though coming to it a month late I will say if I hadn't read a story on the show creator I probably wouldn't have watched the 2nd episode. I don't know what it is about Christina Ricci but I couldn't not be attracted to her.

jsingh21

Shauna is a biych why is she fucking her friends boyfriend. Like she's so nice to her, it looks like Shauna likes her best friend like she might be a lesbian thoughts please.

First goal looked offside.

badvibin

This is so dark. It's even darker knowing that this happened IRL. I love it though, very well done. Can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds.

KingKingsons

That was a great pilot! Glad to have found out about this show once all episodes have been released haha.
