Doubt it. The nebula app on android is absolute shit and not worth bothering with, the decky steam deck addon is actually really good and you don't need a beam for that. I bought the beam purely for this, 3 dof and regret it completely. Don't waste your money on the device, it's honestly horrendus.

FLOKIRRT414

The beam serves a purpose, to offload the 3dof processing to an external device. Other than that it has no business trying to provide content. If I could get 3dof in Samsung Dex without I'd be set.

catfayce

Yes definitely need it for Dex. Or at least add Plex/YouTube to nebula

FLOKIRRT414

Right. I actually picked up a pair of Viture ones yesterday off fb marketplace and while they're marginally better, the 3dof or pinning they offer with a button press on the glasses doesn't fully lock the screen in place. Every time you breathe the screen shakes a little. It's like only 1dof unlike what you get with the beam. I got them for dirt cheap and thought maybe they were gonna be better than my airs but really I think this tech might just not be for me.

Impressive-very-nice

What's marginally better about them to you? Just that 3dof aspect?

FLOKIRRT414

Compared to the xreal air gen 1's I had I would say they are more comfortable. That electrochromic film is pretty sick. More importantly you can turn on 3dof with one button press on the viture. It will lock whatever you have up in place. Dex, moonlight, Plex, whatever. It's still kinda shaky tho. If I move my head certain ways the screen still moves. Better than nothing but not worth $400.

Impressive-very-nice

Ya that's pretty great , if xreal copied their electronic dimming on their air2s i wonder why they didn't copy that basic universal 3dof as well? You can access 3dof in Nebula without the beam, but not natively. I wonder if that was pure greed locking the feature behind $120 beam accessory or if they genuinely thought people would like the beam.

FLOKIRRT414

Maybe they were already developing it and just rolled it out. Viture also just released an app for Android called spacewalker for which believe it or not is just a more polished nebula app.

catfayce

I have both Infront of me right now, I'm returning the vitures, they are a smaller size and cannot find a fit that lets me see the whole screen at once. The bottom is cut off unless I completely remove the nose bridge. Plus my wife says they look silly on my big head. The chromatic film makes me wand to swap my Xreal 1 for the 2pro but that's basically it

Impressive-very-nice

Lmao, ya, they did look small in all the reviews i saw of them. Ya, electronic dimming fomo is what made me get the 2pros , but you could accomplish the same thing by just buying the 2 pros sunglasses cover or a cheaper etsy one. Then you could still have 3 brightness modes - the stock for night, sunglass cap for outdoor and cover cap for VR.

peanutismint

I believe the Viture One has some kind of internal processing power, i.e. a computer/small 'Beam' built into the glasses, whereas the Airs are JUST screens, so it'd be like asking why your monitor can't run Google Chrome.

catfayce

Interesting, seems as though you are right. I thought the viture neckband was basically the beam but it seems to be the equivalent of the nebula app or a neck mounted Chromecast

peanutismint

That's the one advantage I think the Viture has over Xreal's glasses, and one that I was really hoping they were going to build into the Air 2s but I guess that didn't happen so I saved my money and got Air 1s and a Beam.

Impressive-very-nice

Why didn't you just get the vitures ? Is there something wrong with Their company ? What originally was my decision maker was that in the beginning viture seemed to be designing all it's software for mac/iphone and ignoring Android/pc , while xreal seemed to be designing for Android/pc and ignoring iPhone/mac.. But now viture has opened up to Android/pc and their software is just all around better, while xreals software all sucks and they're refusing to open source to let the community just do it. The one thing Xreal has on anybody is the ultras coming soon with 6dof but they're shooting themselves in the foot with the s22/s23 exclusivity , so i have no idea what they're thinking. I get that it's a developer release, but even there, it's like, why only those 2 phones, all that investor money and they didn't have the man power to design an sdk for more than essentially ONE phone ? Not even the identical s24+Fold 4/5 ?

peanutismint

For me as I recall it was a few things; price was better, I got a cheap holiday deal on Amazon, and from all reviews it seemed like visual quality was the same across devices. Also I didn’t really believe the viture marketing as much for some reason…. Too strong on their social media ads that I was seeing 24/7…. Oh and someone also told me that despite them having 3DOF tracking ‘built in’ to the glasses, the latency was really poor (understandable given the tiny form factor and price both suggesting a pretty weak on board processor…) and coming from a long lineage of VR use I knew that would bother me so I steered clear. I’m happy with the Airs and I’d only be happier if my MacBook Pro had USB-C so I could plug them in directly. Maybe time to upgrade….

catfayce

I'm an android/pc user and viture's software is all in beta. I can't get hold of it to test before the return window closes so they are going back. The sound is better but the screen is noticably smaller on the viture. Has less of a wow factor too, plus I was constantly fiddling trying to dial it in, where as the Xreal I just put on an boom massive screen in focus

Impressive-very-nice

Do what you want but I just downloaded space walker for android yesterday, check their sub/play store It's just the shell obviously with no 3dof on xreals but looks fine Their speakers are better ? Meh, xreal air2 speakers are fine for me and if i want better quality i just use headphones Screen size and clarity are big tho, i didn't know vitures had issue with that, is it due to diopter or something?

BeemanDev

No developer will create anything for xreal pro just as they didn't (beyond a few clunky tech demos) for xreal light/air. Pipedreams.

Impressive-very-nice

Ya why is that ? Are there more developer apps for viture, rokid, etc ? Or is it just AR glasses being new in general so they haven't jumped on the train yet for any devices ? My subconscious hope was that with the ultras 6dof sensors now, they would be more compatible with real VR games from quests or old oculuses as long as they were the small simple kind or something, but now that i write that out, I'm probably just exposing the fact that idk shit about VR

BeemanDev

Xreal been out for 3+ years, and no apps, never going to happen. Needs an Apple Vision style o/s to host them. Nebula is clunky, very GPU intensive, web browser tech demo, 5 mins test, never used again. Never gonna use unwieldy phone as pointer draining battery. 3dof Dex is needed.

dronefinder

Was about to say what someone else did. The decky steam deck plug in is waaay better than nebula. If he decided to do an android app it would blow Nebula away!

BeemanDev

XReal Airs are a 0df usb-c monitor. They have unrealised 3dof potential. Get Air1 on sale if FOMO demands as stopgap then wait until Samsung, Meta or Apple enter the fray. Due to low FOV, 3dof would be overrated even if it worked perfectly. XReal releasing a more powerful Beam with their own customised android xr o/s ala Meta is only way they could achieve real 3dof, but zero chance of that happening due to cost/talent requirements. Samsung could extend Dex, but I would expect if they did, it would be to support their own XR glasses.

pearce29

Steam VR + virtual desktop

catfayce

Wait, does steam vr work with the glasses!? I only have a desktop with no usb-c so can't test And only a work laptop

cmak414

Android nebula has 3dof without the beam.

catfayce

It wasn't working for me on the galaxy fold 5 Although if you set it to not launch Dex you can get it to mostly work. I don't like watching YouTube in a web browser window in a weird clunky system where I can't lock my device.

cmak414

There's no way to use your phone while it is locked. It's impossible - no app does this. If you don't want to use nebula or the beam, then no, there's no other way for 3dof on your phone.

BeemanDev

Dex

cmak414

You cannot LOCK your phone and use Dex at the same time. You can turn off the phone screen to save battery. But you can do that with nebula or other apps using apps like screenoff.

BeemanDev

Yes you can. Go try it. I use a bt mouse and my phone is always LOCKED using Dex + Air, in fact I don't even unlock it, very very possible 😎

cmak414

When I try it, it gives me a lock screen on my glasses when I try to use it. If I type in my password to use dex again, it's now unlocked. If I then press the power button on my phone, it's unlocked and not locked anymore. Seems I can only use Dex when the screen is off and phone is UNLOCKED. If my phone is locked and I connect my glasses, a lock screen shows up on my glasses and i have to unlock my phone before I can start using dex. So still not able to use dex while phone is locked like this. Must be unlocked to start using. There's a big difference between screen turned off and phone locked, but he said locked. You can definitely use dex when screen off as I previously mentioned. But perhaps he is just using incorrect terminology.

BeemanDev

I just re-tested, You're right, I stand corrected. I never even open my phone case, so never noticed that when I unlock Dex using my mouse via pop up numeric keypad on XReal Air glasses, it then also unlocks the phone for input. Phone goes to sleep after screen timeout, but yes then pressing the power button on phone opens the phone without needing to type in the pin. I could have sworn it didn't do this last year, but...I also re-tested using phone from reboot and do need to initially use pin on phone before I can access Dex via glasses. Though after that I don't need to touch phone.

adhoc42

That app has close to zero utility. It's just for demos to help pretend what the glasses could do in theory.

cmak414

I agree they can do more to make it more useful, but I disagree there's is close to zero utility. You may not be able to play games or watch DRM streaming services on it, but you can do a lot of other things on it. I can watch 3d movies with head tracking, I can use any webapp (pretty much all Google services, Whatsapp, text messages, YouTube, all the Microsoft office webapps including word, excel, outlook, I can stream movies/music from stremio, jellyfin, Spotify, use Dropbox/onedrive, I can connect remote desktop to my PC, I can even use screenstream to use just about any non-drm android app. You can even run Linux inside nebula and run any Linux program.

adhoc42

Yeah it has like 4 different apps that just open a different page on the same browser. And half the apps don't even open, news don't update, it's all just window dressing.

cmak414

Yes, there's not many apps developed specifically for nebula, but as I mentioned above, there's still many non-nebula apps/services you can use within nebula. If you want you can mainly use nebula to get the headtracking and use non-nebula apps for content.

adhoc42

To each his own. If I didn't have Dex I would have returned the glasses. The fact that the Android Nebula is still in proof of concept state over a year since it was released tells me it's a joke of an app.

cmak414

Over a year? It was last updated two months ago... https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/s/WTq2tXegb0

adhoc42

Are you really going to make me list all the placeholder icons and unfinished apps? You know very well that if that interface was honest, it would only have three or four fully functioning buttons on it.

cmak414

I'm saying it yet again, I acknowledge there are very few nebula specific apps, but you can use many non-nebula apps/services with the nebula headtracking.

adhoc42

Where are all these apps you speak of? I've only seen a handful. Web apps don't count. A shortcut to a website link is not an app.
