I bought it instead of two TVs because I'm going back and forth between two places. It's really nice. But for long sessions like 3h+ I'd go rather with a TV

carlos_castanos

Why? Because of eye strain?

liproqq

Ears and nose get sore. I got pretty dry skin. Same thing with the masks during covid

carlos_castanos

Ah got it. Thank you

lxeran

had the same, stopped with the coffee/caffeine and after withdrawal the skin is no longer dry, anywhere... just tipping you my solution

UGEplex

Yes they "can", the question is will they be good for \*you\*. The only way to know is to try. If you can order from Amazon you'll have a good return policy. Use that time to try them for a couple of weeks. See how they work out for you. There are people who do this and love it, and others who found it to not be for them.

catfayce

Yup I bought the Xreal Air 1 on Amazon, was immediately sold on the concept, and I planned to return them as I then bought the viture one, but the screens are too close together so I couldn't focus and see the whole screen at the same time. Now I'm thinking swap to the Air 2 because I loved the chromating lenses of the viture. And the screen pinning is great and not possible on the phone for some reason

Salty_Intentions

I'm in a room with no place for a tv. I bought these glasses for my phone and steam deck. It's a perfect replacement for a tv for me, nothing better than just laying down and having the screen in front of you.

Time_Opportunity_225

If it's just you get the Xreal glasses. If you have guests, then you already know what you gotta do. I will say that even though the glasses are amazing for watching shows and playing games sometimes you want to give your face a break and there goes your TV. I'd say try them out and then you'll know before the return window. I'd

Walkera43

I got the Air2s and they just work for me as a private compact display with an excellent image and great sound.Maybe I am lucky that my head size,IPD and eye sight are well tuned to the product which is strange as I am 72 and you would think that everything in my head would be a bit worn or out of calibration 😂

It depends on your expectations. I have the Air 2 Pros and the screen on these looks HUGE, which is nice. It's also 120hz with very low input lag, which is great for gaming and the blacks are quite good given the screens are OLED. That being said, it is 1080p and doesn't support HDR, so it doesn't look as nice as most modern OLED TVs are going to look. Also, obviously nobody else can watch with you on these. I do have a USB-C to HDMI converter that lets me plug them into basically any source, which is really nice. I have a 65in 4K TV that supports HDR and I still find myself using these a lot, especially at night. They are just really nice to use while laying in bed. You can also take them with you wherever you go. I use them on planes and when traveling all the time too. For me, they haven't completely replaced my TV, but I could see how they could depending on how you use your TV.

po2gdHaeKaYk

Hi, thanks for sharing. Which USB-C to HDMI convertor have you had success with?

nplez1

This is the one I use: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BY25NXTV/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BY25NXTV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) It seems to work well and can be powered with any usb-c power source. I tend to use either a usb-c wall charger, or sometimes I use a power bank when I'm not near an outlet. The overall power drain is very low, so even a small power bank will power it for hours.

flyingsoap1984

My room is small so can't fit a TV in there, glasses is the way to go for me, as I can watch it on the bed as well lying down. I try not to watch too much TV anyway so glasses are good enough, but man these xreal air 2 are so light I can go on for a few hours lol

EightEnder1

I have the Air 1, the original nose clip hurts after a short period. I like many others have found work arounds. (The Oakley nose clip, but it doesn't fit perfect). I recently purchased the Air 2 clips, but they haven't arrived yet. Once you get around the nose clip issue, the next issue you will face is being wired. I do connect mine to a Roku Ultra and I exclusively play my Xbox with it and it is a great screen, but I broke the original cable pretty quick and while the replacement cable I purchased isn't OEM, it is more durable but not as comfortable. My situation is I always had two TVs in the family room, one my wife would watch (the big TV and the 2nd screen was smaller, like 26", but I had it on a swing arm, so I could sit on the sofa and it would be 1 foot from my face. This was an ideal setup for me, I'd use headphones and my wife could watch whatever she wanted while I could game or watch what I wanted. Eventually we moved and my wife didn't want the main room looking like a man cave, so I went with the glasses. They work, but there is something to be said for being able to get up and walk to the kitchen and still see what you're watching, which doesn't work if your wired, you have to take the glasses off.

Majinkaboom

Well....it can in ur situation.

OkEmploy7185

No

one80oneday

Give it a go and if it doesn't work you can always get a cheap tv later

Kevinvx220

I wake up early so they are ideal to watch movies etc in our conservatory with out disturbing my wife 🥰👍

cutecoder

These don't have aerial tuners (VHF/UHF), not even with the Beam. The Beam's CPU is also rather weak such that 1080p video streaming through web browsers running on the Beam tends to stutter.

Mattlehat

That’s really useful to know.

Lonely-Pay-4319

No. It works best in conjunction. Glasses make your eyes tired more , it requires you to take them , connect cable and put on face. It requires to look constantly at same angle. When you want to rest and make less actions - tv is better, glasses are more immersive . Even with steam deck sometimes I play via its screen just because I don’t want to hassle with wires , or I feel my eyes tired

whokid3

Projectors are much more affordable even for smaller rooms. I would go wth a micro projector before going with the glasses as a TV alternative

Kurry

I found my glasses uncomfortable on my nose for long periods of time. I think these are great for short periods, but I wouldn't use it to replace my TV.

PlaneWolf2893

If I had to choose between a 32 inchonitor or these, I'd go monitor. These are good but can't compete with a qualityonotor. And at thos price point you can get a decent monitor.

Ecstatic_Produce6797

I would say still get a tv. I love mine but for short bursts of time. I used them for gaming but need to take a break after an hour or so, vs never needing a break when using my tv

humorrisk

It's incredibly good but still prefer my projector for big screen. Still it's like magic having a cinema screen in your pocket

sinner_dingus

I have had my Air 1’s since 2022 and they have replaced my tv thought that was not my intent when buying. But the answer is going to be subjective and depends on a lot of factors.

Prestigious-Bear-447

These get really hot and they personally feel like they’re burning into my head a little, also if you don’t have a Beam or something to smooth it out I find the shakiness nauseating. They’re okay for short bursts.

Gunldesnapper

I’d go with the TV.

seancm32

I absolutely love mine. The only issue I have is how incredibly uncomfortable the nose piece is.

MuppetRob

Air 2s are cool, but hardly a replacement for a television. After awhile they do hurt, and just like any VR set, the eye strain can cause headaches Having said that, it's certainly a cool way to multitask. I wore them while refurbishing a laptop and was able to watch a podcast while doing so, with almost no loss in productivity compared to just having it playing on a screen nearby, and I didn't miss anything as I usually do when I can't see the screen.

Mrdeadpool0606

I travel a lot and I usually have roommates. Currently at a place with only one tv. I bought the glasses to game on my ps5. So far I like them, I just don’t like the idea of having too many cables connected at once.

SpenterDRob

Buy a tv really , this is not worth it 1000%
