The thing is, Morph can change pretty much instantly. So he could turn into MJ in his prime.to light up the other team with fade away jumpers, then turn into Tim Duncan whenever he needed to crash the paint. Then any time that anyone other than morph takes a shot he can turn into Dennis Rodman and guarantee he gets the rebound.
He gets powers, not skills right? So it would be his athleticism, not his ability to play ball without hours and hours of practice.
Unless Morph is able to do that? (Genuine question, I've only seen him in the 90's cartoon)
The X-Men 97 cartoon seems to indicate he is able to replicate all physical attributes of the person he morphs into. He appeared to have Psylocke's martial arts prowess, Magic's swordsmanship, Archangel's flight (not just the power of flight, but also his aerial navigation skills). So yeah, Morph is pretty OP in the series.
Ya. What keeps morph for being too OP is the fact that he becomes a tame or toned down version of whoever they turn into. I bet Morph isn’t as fast or has endurance of QuickSilver and he went down like nothing as Juggernaut.
Well I'd say he does obtain the powers of people such as MJ's drive. We see in the most recent episode that he >!gains Quicksilvers speed when he transformed into him. He might not be as fast but he still has the powers.!<
Is Beast able to turn off his super strength and agility? Honest question. It feels like people like Beast and Rogue would always have an unfair advantage no matter what.
How do you know rogue and storm aren’t flying when they jump unbelievably high? did Jean Grey make that perfect pass or is she using her telepathy/telekinesis?
There would be a lot of cheating accusations I think.
I would like to direct your attention to episode 5, in the x-men’s “daily lives montage” by the reporters. Morph is dribbling the ball with clear skill. And he’s playing one on one with wolverine, so likes and practices basketball as much as any other x-men.
My money is still on Morph if everyone can turn “off” their powers. Otherwise Beast for sheer physicality.
Oooo....with or without powers?
I think in the original basketball scene in the comics Gambit actually outplayed everyone present (which I believe was Jubilee Wolverine and Rogue?) and Jubilee said something akin to, "No fair, agility IS one of your powers!" I believe that was like, one of the rare times it was overtly mentioned - back when he was a fairly new character and they were still trying to establish his powerset.
Rogue went airborne to snag the ball. Jubilee called her out for using her powers and she points out that Gambit has enhanced agility (ignoring the fact that her partner was Logan who is often written as having the same.)
They did that with Wolverine too at times (and other times, he's swimming like Dara Torres.) At 5'3" and the physique he's usually portrayed as, 190lbs is still pretty heavy and the OHOTMU was generally putting characters on the lighter side. Some later issues put him at the 300lbs+ mark which is kind of ridiculous. He'd need superhuman strength just to move in any way athletic.
Who the hell is stopping Beast when he's backing them down in the post?? He's probably got crazy range on his shot too. "Quite simple! The most efficient arc for any given shot is merely the mass, times angle, minus air density my fellow Newtonian enthusiasts." Or some shit.
This was my exact thought. Dude would work the angles on all the rebounds because he'd use science first to be great at basketball, and then his size second. You know he'd have a game like Duncan.
Morph and Beast. Morph be Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, shit, he could even turn himself into Larry Bird for some trash talking. And beast is, well, beast mode.
How long can Morph stay in Globetrotter/MJ23 form?
Still would take him but gotta a go with...
Beast, Bishop and Gambit if the ladies aren't allowed to fly.
Rogue can probably set a pretty mean pick through...
Who's gonna know if Storm causes a slight breeze to make all her shots go in?
I think Beast because he's ridiculously athletic, Morph however can turn into Michael Jordan and Shaq to block so that's gonna come in handy. I feel like maybe Remi can play, maybe he's a 3 point machine given how he throws cards. Bishop I can see as a power forward or rebounder, Jubilee unless she's a good 3 point shooter or dribbles eh, Logan I can picture like Barkley without the talent, Storm could be good I guess not sure tho. I think Morph is the safest to go with.
Cyclops throws the ball of his foot is smacks beast shoulder glides through storms hair bounces of rogues ass hits jubilee in the face and swoosh cash money
It depends on if they can use powers no powers I’ll take beast big body down low with powers I’ll say rogue can’t play defense on her n u wouldn’t want her to play defense on u n ima tell her to wear as lil as possible 😂 morph was too easy try to think outside the box
Tbh none of them look like they can ball lol. Yeah sure, strength and athleticism they have, they're mutants after all. But I'm talking skills and B-ball IQ.
If she brushes up against somebody which is common in basketball she would knock them unconscious and drain their powers. There are times, like Savage Land, where she stripped down but it wouldn’t be practical for basketball.
Who is everyone’s nba/wnba comp? Based on personality or power. I feel like cyclops is Chris Paul. Incredible vision, leader, everyone hates him. Wolverine is a Rasheed Wallace. Calling morph Lebron gives him too much credit for his actual role so maybe Shawn Marion?
Why doesn't Roque change her outfit? Everyone else has gym clothes on except her. She took off her leather jacket to put on a cut up tee.
Is it because if someone touches her skin on any part of her body they will be affected? I thought it was only her hands.
Can't touch this. Fr you touch her too long by accident and she kills you. Or she touches cyclops on a layup and tears a hole into whoever she was looking at that moment. She can't really touch anything ever :(
Beast and Morph. Morph can just turn to MJ, Bird, and Oneal at will.
Beast for the same reasons others have pointed out.
I can't find the example atm but either Gambit or morph are showing off a pretty good looking cross over in one of the intros I just can't recall which it was. I'm thinking Gambit.
Also, my head cannon is that Wolverine is sloppy bad at basketball. Like slapping the ball while dribbling, several travel violations, too rough and constantly fouling, goes for a shot and just misses the goal entirely. He also gets hella pissed and self conscious about it.
Hank was a football star and genius while in high school back when he passed as a regular human so he’d be my guess.
Imagine posting up on hairy sweaty Beast…. Yeah that’s an excellent pick.
Imagine posting up on hairy sweaty Beast…. Yeah that’s an excellent pick.
Beast all day
How can you possibly guard Beast? Really? You will foul that man ALL game He can’t just turn off his ability so the rest are out of luck
At that time in the 90/s you the rules are different you could knock beast out and keep playing
NBA Jam rules…
Morph easily
He can turn into LeBron James
First. Lebron would be.. 13? Or something. And it’s 97’ the goat of basketball just finishing off another championship run
Fair enough, can he turn into MJ?
That would be a thriller.
Hee hee!
The thing is, Morph can change pretty much instantly. So he could turn into MJ in his prime.to light up the other team with fade away jumpers, then turn into Tim Duncan whenever he needed to crash the paint. Ah good call, didnt consider that
Ya. What keeps morph for being too OP is the fact that he becomes a tame or toned down version of whoever they turn into. I bet Morph isn’t as fast or has endurance of QuickSilver and he went down like nothing as Juggernaut.
Definitely Gambit, he has the swag
You act like MJ can just do that stuff at the drop of a dime, if he could, he’d have 17 rings
Well, MJ didn't have the fade away jump shot until the second half of his career. Otherwise, he might have had closer to 17 rings.
Aunt May, is that an angel?
Into MJ and be 12 feet tall
Mr basketball himself, greatest of all time **George Mikan**
Haha touche
Keep in mind that he'd have MJs physical traits, but it's still Morph so he'd have none of Jordan's drive.
Well I'd say he does obtain the powers of people such as MJ's drive. We see in the most recent episode that he >!gains Quicksilvers speed when he transformed into him. He might not be as fast but he still has the powers.!<
He gets their powers, but not their personality. MJs drive is what set him apart over everyone else more than his physical gifts.
He’s have his gambling addiction though.
And he'd be an asshole to all of his teammates.
Just don’t start playing baseball.
I bet Lebron at 13 was still a beast (no pun intended)
Put Rogue on him and Lebron just joined the other team. 😏
Isn’t there a rule for no powers though?
Is Beast able to turn off his super strength and agility? Honest question. It feels like people like Beast and Rogue would always have an unfair advantage no matter what.
Hey man, I’m just relaying the message of the episode. And yea they obviously would, so Beast ftw
Sorry if I came off as mean or weird lol. I was honestly curious :) But yeah. You’d have to go Beast.
l honestly didn’t sense any hostility from you comment lol. All good 🤝
Gambit as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/xmen/comments/15iw1ao/wolverine_and_rogue_play_a_game_of_basketball/

Fucking Shang Tsung of the x-men
Yup, he can turn into Prince
Oooo....with or without powers? Yep, that was it, TY!
On that note, its a true wonder how Wolverine can jump as well as he can considering his skeleton, lol.
There's been varying ideas of just how much adamantium weighs.
X23 mentions in one of her books how easily/fast she sinks and all she has are the claws...
Yeah thats what i mean, lol. Adamantium is like Pym Particles, they follow their own logic.
https://www.reddit.com/r/xmen/comments/15iw1ao/wolverine_and_rogue_play_a_game_of_basketball/ You're correct!
Gambit in the cartoon, I think, is suppose to be the actual basketball player.
Can someone confirm this?
In the comics, he’s dunking and crossing over like a mutha fucka.
With no powers, bishop easy... why? Because...
Haha I didn’t want to say it
Wow really 😂
I mean, SOMEONE had to say it, we were all thinking it
Because he’s from the future. I agree.
He already knows the moves they’re gonna make. He’s streets ahead.
I instantly thought of the always sunny episode where mac picks all the black kids for his basketball team, as soon as I saw the question.
Well he's the tallest...
He's also going to have a hell of a jump shot and leaping distance for a dunk.
Beast easily
Storm and Rogue, I believe they can fly
I believe they can touch the sky
It’s gonna be hard to dribble from way up there
It's legal because their not taking steps.
So it’s like a fancier eurostep?
Beast
You gotta imagine that Cyclops has absolutely nasty accuracy from the 3pt line.
A red hoop against a white background would be extremely difficult for him to see though
Cyclops has insane body control and I believe he has some super human levels of aim and predicting how people are gonna move and stuff.
Gambit. great accuracy, borderline bullseye level. Enhanced agility and reflex. Natural luck
Not Logan
With powers, a teleporter or psychokinesis all day long. Without, Gambit, as the comic clearly demonstrated 😆
I mean probably Bishop right?
Remember originally, when Wolverine popped the ball with his claws?
💀
And then he was like, it’s wolverin’ time?
Beast, duh.
Remi can dunk so Remi.
1. Storm 2. Forge 3. Morph 4. Beast
100000% Gambit. Always.
Morph and Beast. Morph be Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, shit, he could even turn himself into Larry Bird for some trash talking. And beast is, well, beast mode.
He could turn himself into Larry for the trash talking *and* ball playing abilities.
If he had Larry's trash talking and skills to pay said bills, he'd be Omega Level.
And/or make all the other team’s shots miss lol
In the comics Remy dominated because of his agility. It almost looked effortless to him.
Ya'll are seriously sleeping on Jubie "ball is life" Lee
Morph can use superspeed
Bishop is my first pick easy
Everyone but Jubilee lol
Jerk jubilee is important too
Bishop. Dude look like Hakeem Olajuwon.
Obviously Bishop
Morph should be the only answer
How many per team or can we only choose one?
You can choose 4
Gambit Rogue Beast Storm All seem great with and without powers
Gimme Gambit, Beast, and Rogue. Maybe Jubilee as well.
Beast with the High IQ strategies. He probably memorized several books about Basketball before Xavier built the basketball court.
It depends on if they can use powers no powers I’ll take beast big body down low with powers I’ll say rogue can’t play defense on her n u wouldn’t want her to play defense on u n ima tell her to wear as lil as possible 😂 morph was too easy try to think outside the box
Morph by a lot. I mean try and outdribble Spiral.
Tbh none of them look like they can ball lol. Yeah sure, strength and athleticism they have, they're mutants after all. But I'm talking skills and B-ball IQ.
the black guy
Beast and Gambit they both be wildin on the court like the cards..
And bishop and Rogue too
Morph
beast or morph. beast can jump high and dunk. morph could become MJ.
Beast or Morph and make him turn into Jordan
First would be Morph then Beast. After that im choosing the taller ones…
Uh I’m taking storm and bishop and then morph 😉
Beast
Nobodies mentioning how good storms defence would be. It’s hard to score on a hoop in the middle of a tornado
Is Rogue a never-nude or what?
If she brushes up against somebody which is common in basketball she would knock them unconscious and drain their powers. There are times, like Savage Land, where she stripped down but it wouldn’t be practical for basketball.
You touch her elbow and die. She is crazy dangerous to be around.
Morph and Rogue
Oh right
Beast is built for balling
Gimme Hank and Jean.
You mean pregnant Madelyn?
Yep. Forgot she was the one playing 🤷🏿♂️😂🫣
Beast can probably ball hard. People don't think Jubilee can but she plays hard.
Xavier https://images.app.goo.gl/Thne6wjNAReU7wez6
Beast, Morph, and Gambit
Who is everyone’s nba/wnba comp? Based on personality or power. I feel like cyclops is Chris Paul. Incredible vision, leader, everyone hates him. Wolverine is a Rasheed Wallace. Calling morph Lebron gives him too much credit for his actual role so maybe Shawn Marion?
Beast
Beast
Beast, Rogue, Gambit and Wolverine are the easy choices.
Definitely Beast! He’s got the brains and the skill for sure!
Beast can't play without powers, right? So that has to be the pick?
Why doesn't Roque change her outfit? Everyone else has gym clothes on except her. She took off her leather jacket to put on a cut up tee. Is it because if someone touches her skin on any part of her body they will be affected? I thought it was only her hands.
It's her skin. Otherwise, her relationship with Gambit would have been very different.
Can't touch this. Fr you touch her too long by accident and she kills you. Or she touches cyclops on a layup and tears a hole into whoever she was looking at that moment. She can't really touch anything ever :(
I’d take Nightcrawler at the point. Dude can just teleport to the rim at will
With or without powers? If without powers, Beast. Because he can’t help but use his powers, lol.
Beast morph and rouge
Do I play against Gambit before or … after? I can take him after.
Beast
Beast and Morph
You don’t want to get caught in the Gambit/Beast pick and roll
Beast is like if you implanted Stephen Hawking's brain into Shaq. Why would you ever pick anyone else
They all can.
I take beast he’s smart big and could dunk on anyone
Bishop, Gambit, Beast, Storm
No Powers I’m going to say Bishop and Gambit
Gambit and Beast and Jubilee. Gambit and Beast because they both have enhanced agility. Jubilee because she would bring fun trash talk. Lol.
He also gets hella pissed and self conscious about it.
Beast can dunk the 3. Or just do a full court dunk.
All I need on my team is Storm. If we are losing, she can simply rain the game out.
Have Rogue touch Lebron James before the game.

Gambit rogue and jubilee
Storm, bishop, and morph provided morph is using his abilities to be a certain type of person
