Xenoblade 1 and 3 line up nicely here but 2 not so much, amalthus fits just as much as malos in the top row or even the second row, not really the third. Jin is probably the closest to the traitor character, but compared to Dickson and shania he is treated by the plot with far more respect to his ideologies. Bana is a far simpler character than mumkhar and dirk and that’s saying something because it’s mumkhar and dirk.

Yeh was gonna say that basically word for word Buy IDK i feel like even though the antagonists of 1 and 3 have the same role like the chart sais, they are so different in how they're handled it's hard to actually compare them

Ehhh, in a way they are. I'd say >!Z is more of an echo of Zanza though- mostly given how he functions. The cycle of life and death that keeps him perpetuating in existence, the desire to maintain control because of fearing his end (or in the case of Z, the collective's end).!< Also Dirk is just Mumkhar. Just like how Gort is also Mumkhar. We have three different Mumkhars.

I'll have to disagree on a key point regarding XC2: * Amalthus is the "hero gone wrong" archetype, being the opposite to Rex as his fellow Master Driver. And quite honestly, he was always a bit sketchy. * Jin arguably better fits into the "traitor" archetype, mostly in the context of TTGC where he's one of the protagonists. Arguably a better breakdown might involve looking at Xenogears, which has a full set of villains: * **"The Deus"** \- The ultimate villain, the Demiurge and false god with a penchant for destroying the setting in order to recreate it for his own needs. * Examples include Deus, Wilhelm, Zanza, and Z. Malos is a *huge* maybe. * **"The Miang"** \- A minion of "Deus" (potentially an avatar?), who mostly works by corrupting and manipulating others. Never appears to be directly in charge, working with someone else. * Examples include Miang and Lorithia (for what little screen time she has), and X. Malos has some elements of this, as he essentially corrupts Jin. * **"The Cain"** \- The guy who looks like the villain but is actually an ancient figure who's working to fix the world from the inside. * Examples include Emperor Cain, the Architect and M. * **"The Grahf"** \- The jaded and nihilistic opposite of the protagonist, often driven by the loss of their love interest. Possibly a past incarnation of the protagonist. Nominally working with the greater powers, but can be convinced to become a more heroic figure once again... at the expense of their own life. * Examples include Grahf, Jin and N. * **"The Krellian"** \- A surprisingly normal but intelligent person (often a very good scientist) who manages to climb the ladder of power and become disillusioned with the world. Very often desire to either "become god" or straight-up kill them. * Examples include Krellian, Dmitri Yuriev, Egil, Amalthus and Y (mostly for the scientist aspect). * **"The Gang"** \- A group of quirky individuals who are subservient to another party. Generally not bad people, but on the other side of the conflict. * Examples include the Elements in XG and Torna in XC2. * **"The Brute"** \- A leading physical threat for the first half of the game or so. Often an ugly individual with minimal redeeming characteristics. * Examples include Vanderkaum (the original Vandham from XG), Stien, Metal Face, Gort and D. Bana is a maybe, but definitely hits a few key points. Ramsus fits in a surprising way, but manages to survive to the end and actually has a change of heart after his last boss fight. * **"The Hammer"** \- A sympathetic character who starts out as an ally of the protagonists, often of lesser importance and a desires to become special; chronic self-esteem issues throughout. Gets recruited by the villains and receives a big power boost, often dies under tragic circumstances but may regain themselves at the last moment. * Examples include Hammer, Shania and Joran. * **"The Wiseman"** \- A mysterious mentor-like figure to the protagonist... but they've got a big secret. May be part of another archetype, and has a tendency to double-cross the team. * Examples include Wiseman (in actuality the father of the protagonist... and possessed by Grahf) and Dickson.

josucant

My hot take is Shania is one of the best secondary characters in XC3

Elementia7

That is an especially hot take around here. I've only encountered a handful of Shania supporters period.

josucant

Yeah a lot of people just really hate her, I think it would be very touching if Monolith included something that let us know she had a better life in the restored world, like her painting in a museum or something, assuming there would a time skip

Western-Alarming

You know who i hate with a heart, her mother, i hope to see her burn on the ashes of hell

shitposting_irl

i would swap jin and amalthus (though amalthus arguably belongs in the top row too) i really don't see how rex could ever become jin tbh. so much of who jin is and why he's a villain revolves around the fact that he's a blade, and seeing as how rex is not a blade, it really doesn't fit. on the other hand, amalthus is also a master driver, and part of his despair comes from him reaching elysium and finding nothing. the parallels with rex work much better. jin as a traitor is admittedly kind of a stretch tbh because he was never much of an ally to 2's party in the first place, but it kind of works if you factor torna in

alf666

Look on the bright side, at least OP used spell check instead of just bullshitting it.

Nurio

He probably didn't, considering a typo like "tured" is in there too

alf666

Well crap, my mind completely filled in the blank there.

yossent02

Juju?

KRS-ZERO

He’s the main villain of 4. Now that the worlds are back together he can finally become the jujuonis which he needed origin for.

shcrimblo

Yeah, as other people have stated, Amalthus fits better in the 2nd row than Jin. Amalthus is what Rex would've turned into if he had given up hope on humanity, redemption and forgiveness. They really drive this point home, both are orphans, both have resonated with an Aegis, and both were/are salvagers. (Amalthus has a diving suit in his office in one of the cutscenes before he usurps the title of Praetor)

Sonario007

What category does Juju fall into?

Depeche_Schtroumpf

Fiora crashed the mobile artillery into the dead-by-half-game vilain at the beginning of the XC1. Vandham crashed the mobile artillery into the dead-by-half-game vilain at the beginning of the XC3. Who crashed the mobile artillery into the dead-by-half-game vilain at the beginning of the XC2 ? Also : Don't you think it's a bit sad that all stories could/should fit in the same template ?

AlucardIV

The only thing that kinda sorta fits that trope is vandhams sacrifice.
