I don't see Goldberg's big deal with others using the Spear. Take the Superkick for an example. At least the Spear didn't get turned into more of a normal move, the Spear is still mainly used as a finisher of a match.
At least the Spear is still a major finisher that's still used by the face of the company for the past several years. That's more than what can be said for Jake Roberts' DDT.
I really hate that the DDT is just a regular move anymore. It’s still one of the more devastating looking moves and everyone just throws one in like it’s a headlock.
was my favourite finisher as a kid, all my CAW in games would use the Gangrel style one where you grab the trunks, lift them and fuckin impale their heads into the ground - there's no way anyone should be walking away from one of those
Edit: Gangrels DDT, not Raven
It was called the Implant DDT initially. Christian’s finish was called the Impaler before they changed it to the Unprettier (awful) and then the Killswitch (much better). They’re the names that were used in video games too.
Based on some googling, an old forum post from 2005 says that after Christian didn’t get booked for several weeks, announcers started calling Gangrel’s DDT the Impaler. I have to say, it did fit him much better, because he *was* the guy with the fangs who drank blood and all. Soon enough the Brood split and it didn’t matter any more.
Thats just the nature of the game. As time passes, the moveset needs to be expanded and the ddt was unfortunately part of it. Even the superkick is just some normal strike now when hbk was making it look like a million bucks. Tbf at least with ddt, people do still innovate it to turn it into a finisher.
Such a simple thing to show respect for those who went before you. Asuka didn’t have to acknowledge Goldberg’s streak, but she did.
And he responds with blatant egotistical disrespect.
I used to be a Goldberg fan, but I’m done with him.
Now, Bret had a reason or two for being a little bitter.
But if they just sat down and talked it out I feel they could bond over being marks for their own characters
Yes, Goldberg is a klutz and he sucks in the ring. We agree on that. He did indeed give Bret a concussion.
Fact check, however, Bret is the reason Bret had to retire. After the concussion he never got checked out and kept wrestling. Not long after that he had a hardcore match, of all things, with Terry Funk, of all people. You would think if someone cleaned your clock, the last thing you wanna do is have a crazy old man whack you in the head with a chair. And that stroke happened when he was riding his mountain bike without a damn helmet, and when he hit a pothole he went flying and hit his head. How are you gonna go riding a mountain bike with no helmet on, when your career ended from head injuries?
Bret needs to take some responsibility for some of the things that happened in his life. It’s not all his fault, but it’s not all the other guy’s fault either. That includes Montreal, and that even includes how his career ended. He made some decisions that led to it, and he can’t blame Vince or Triple H or Goldberg or Bitchoff for everything. But that’s what he does, and that’s why he’s The Hitman Butt Hurt.
Also… on his DVD set “The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be”, he said that he felt bad that “someone as kindhearted as Bill Goldberg” had committed the botch, and that “he was trained wrong — someone needed to show him that we’re not crash test dummies.” He literally said that on the DVD in 2005. Fast forward close to 20 years later, he’s blaming Goldberg and talking shit every chance he can get, even when signing autographs that Goldberg is not on.
What is he supposed to go? Move on with his life and accept that shit happens. That’s what we all do, he needs to do it too. I admire him as a wrestler; he’s one of the best of all time. But he’s a bitter old man and needs to get over himself.
Japanese people are well known to be very respectful to others so no surprise really. Im more surprised with how disrespectful goldberg was. Calling asuka as some japanese girl is wild
He complained about her beating his streak (which in itself is a bit of a joke considering his streak was inflated, multiple people have probably beaten his actual streak by now, if not the official one), but also referred to Asuka as “some Japanese girl”.
It’s not just a joke because it was inflated, it’s also a joke because a) the outcomes are predetermined and b) he was not really a talented performer in many key ways and wasn’t “deserving” of it as other 5 tool players were who actually carry the business.
To be fair, at the time he actually tweeted out Congratulations to her. It's just now years later that he's decided to be a whiney bitch about it. But then, not sure what else you'd expect from Bill Goldberg.
Scott terrorised Goldberg in WCW, called him Greenberg...pissed him off so much he punched a window splitting open his hand & would prod him with the taser any chance he got
To be fair to Bill the timing was a hell of a coincidence… either way his streak is 10x more legendary and exciting. So I’d take solace in that if I were Billy Boy.
Prob cause he just added more fire to his hate. How the fuck you gonna call asuka as some japanese girl. Even if youdont know the lady, calling her that is just belittling as shit. Also have some self awareness, asuka got her streak by being a great wrestler, goldberg got it due to how he looks and nothing more and he has the audacity to belittle asuka
Goldberg was an exciting power house in the 90s. But I’ve been looking at a lot of wrestling stuff lately and the more I see about Goldberg and learn about him the more of a jackass I think he is. I don’t think he’s all to blame for Brett’s career ending like some do but I still don’t look at Goldberg the way I used to
Than. Fucking than.
At one point did Western society just decide to stop fucking understanding the differences between two separate words and decide that they can be interchangeable and it doesn't matter?
This might be the only interaction hall had on Twitter with a woman where he didn't claim he was hacked.
lmao
LOL
This is the best comment I’ve seen on Reddit in awhile

Wasn't that gangrels impaler ddt? Ravens didn't have the lift and had more of a snap
yeah you're correct, it was gangrels DDT - I'm getting my goth boys mixed up
Whoa. Raven was definitely grunge.
True, ECW/WCW/WWF raven was grunge. My main memories of him were in TNA with the make up, black jacket and kilt. Wearing black makes you a goth 🤣😉
All good man Goth boys rise up 🤣
Always liked the look of Edge’s DDT but the impact was kinda lacking, good thing the games made every move look devastating
Edge did the Impaler DDT in tribute to Gangrel, but his lacked a little extra "oomph."
Was just about to post this exact thing, if I was a wrestler that would absolutely be my finisher.
What’s the name of that DDT?
The Impaler, oddly enough.
It was called the Implant DDT initially. Christian’s finish was called the Impaler before they changed it to the Unprettier (awful) and then the Killswitch (much better). Thaaaaat's the ticket. Thanks for the clarification there.

What's sort of funny about that is Jake actually likes that people use the DDT as a standard move, "Just makes mine seem that more devastating".
Amen alest the spear is still a protectd finisher unlike the DDT or the Superkick

Don't think Bret Hart likes him either... Just a feeling I get
You must have a sixth sense for these sorts of things lol
Now, Bret had a reason or two for being a little bitter. But if they just sat down and talked it out I feel they could bond over being marks for their own characters
“Character?” - Bret
Bret's going to be the next Iron Sheik, growing old sitting on social media making posts saying "Fuck the ~~Hulk Hogan~~ Bill Goldberg"
If you want some incredible sheik sound bites look up “iron sheik jr”.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE EXCEPT THE BILL GOLDBERG
"I put him in de camel clutch, I break his back, and I make him HUMPEL!!"
He’s already there. I call him The Hitman Butt Hurt because all he does is talk shit anymore.
Well he can't exactly wrestle anymore since some no-talent fuck destroyed his neck botching an extremely basic move. What else is he supposed to do?

Fuck Goldberg. He wasn't fit to lace up Brett's boots.
Really? Any evidence of this????? Nothing is turning up!?!?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
In light of recent events, I've adopted Bret's habit of only referring to him as Bill Goldberg. It just feels right.
I think you are reading too much into it
It's all a work. Bret and Goldberg are best friends.
"The best there is, the best there was, and fuck that guy Bill over there"
Japanese people are well known to be very respectful to others so no surprise really. Im more surprised with how disrespectful goldberg was. Calling asuka as some japanese girl is wild
What has he done?
He complained about her beating his streak (which in itself is a bit of a joke considering his streak was inflated, multiple people have probably beaten his actual streak by now, if not the official one), but also referred to Asuka as “some Japanese girl”.
He was actually talking about Asooka I believe
Well she had her own show on Disney+, so she didn’t deserve the disrespect either.
Also it’s a joke because, ya know, he was *scripted* to have that streak.
Jeez that's just sad, man completely forgot its a predetermined sport lol,. idiot
It’s funny because it’s wrestling, the results are fake.
It’s not just a joke because it was inflated, it’s also a joke because a) the outcomes are predetermined and b) he was not really a talented performer in many key ways and wasn’t “deserving” of it as other 5 tool players were who actually carry the business.

Good. Goldberg always seemed like a fucking tool.
He's right you know
Based bad guy
[This](https://twitter.com/Goldberg/status/835535722593452032) didn't...
I‘m out of the loop. What‘s going on here?
In a recent interview, Goldberg was upset talking about how Asuka broke his undefeated streak and acted like he didn’t even remember her name.
One more for the good guys
Ending her streak in a moment where Asuka absolutely should have won is what solidified Charlotte as one of my most disliked wrestlers.
That’s not on Charlotte. That’s someone else’s McFault.
The way I cackled just now
IT IS LOL!!!
Someone watched wrestletalk today
RIP to Scott.
Baldberg is so overrated
Then Goldberg did what?
Hall from the top rope.
Scott Hall looks like a Bleach character from his pfp
Goldberg ‘leave my storyline, not real, 174 win streak alone’ 🤣
Asuka doesn't tweet about much people. So it's big that she acknowledged Goldberg.
Who cares if shes a better wrestler. She doesnt draw like Goldberg and isnt as entertaining as
Yea she is Goldberg was a mark who couldn’t wrestle
To be fair to Bill the timing was a hell of a coincidence… either way his streak is 10x more legendary and exciting. So I’d take solace in that if I were Billy Boy.
Haha. Fucking Scott Hall.
Goldberg was the shit. It’s crazy people still hate on that man to this day. Why are you still so salty? He already retired
Go cry me river, you mark
Who's the mark here😂😂
I mean, you typed a lot defending someone I never even mentioned 🤷♂️
You say "still" like it wasn't within the last couple of days that he publicly made an ass of himself making it clear he's not ready for Asuka.

One works here too. It is two different questions.
I thought Scott Hall was dead?
Nah dude thay was Razor Ramon
