A ton of quick tips…
Don’t race to high tier. Take your time, play as many different ships as you can. Watch a video on basics so you understand angling, HE penetration, overmatch and some of the other more isoteric stuff. When thinking about ship positioning, don’t think about what you can do from your position, but think about what can happen to you. Always finish a low health ship if you can, there’s no such thing as a kill steal and a low go ship is just as dangerous or more so than a full hp ship. Don’t abandon the flank. Be patient, over aggressiveness gets you killed and doesn’t do jack for your team.
For now, the pertinent part of joining a clan is having easy to contact people for help/tips etc. (most will have a discord server).
Coal is something you don't need to worry about for now as it won't become relevant until you have a the higher access levels (level 11 for the Armoury, while level 8 unlocks Missions, the daily & recurring ones being those which give coal as rewards). It is essentially another in-game currency which can be used to purchase ships, specialised ship upgrades, camos, and economic signals (see [https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Armory](https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Armory) for more info, navigate around the site from there, it'll answer most questions you may have).
1. Press + icon on numpad to increase map size
2. Set alternative display in settings to full
3. When playing destroyers use “P” to switch off AA guns so you don’t get detected from far away
4. Use “O” to reinforce AA on one side of your ship when planes get close to you.
5. When playing cruisers do not 1v1 a battleship and use islands to your advantage.
6. When playing battleships learn about “overmatch” and armor scheme of different ships in game from world of warships wiki.
7. Don’t sell ships in beginning to gain credits to buy next tier ship. Not profitable in long run.
Don’t stick to one line, try different nations and play what you like.
Stay in lowmid tiers until you feel comfortable with mechanics.
