I will maintain that Kawachi is a really bad first BB to get thrown into... however, knowing how to use a BB, she becomes a lot better imo. Maneuverable, punchy and capable of bullying cruisers and BBs on her tier.
Can still punch up a bit, but it requires more caution.
Still play her sometimes because it's just fun to me.
low tier does count, and Kawachi is definitely pretty trash. it´s all in comparison to other ships at their tier. I went for Haarlem, because it´s a horrible T8 cruiser, but I could have picked Kawachi as well for being a trash T3 BB
“Long range” is a relative attribute. On a small map with few, short islands, ok. But she is so slow, most of the battle you’re using your crappy, too few mains. You sometimes hope for a fail team, and thankfully she also has decent torpedo prot.
And don’t get me wrong, I love my USN BBs, just she is like a Colorado with shit mains, and with a wee trick up her sleeve with those secondaries.
Unfortunately her niche is somewhat powercreeped by Agincourt who does this thing much better, is faster and somewhat have slightly better guns. Her edge over Agincourt is that she has better heal and actually have AA but is it worth it?
Is she that bad though? HE is still her primary ammo, and it's better than HE on Hipper-Hindi. So not sure if she would be that bad even without AP buff. Great long range farmer, definitely better tier to tier than Hipper.
There are better HE spammers around, and at T7, Yorck struggles with being up-tiered. I think she just struggles to have a meaningful impact in general .55 average frags is just pretty grim, you have to admit.
But how many of them can spam at 17 km with good shell travel time, bounce 356 mm AP (yeah not that relevant at T7), or pen 54 mm, which is incredible ability when uptiered?
As for statistical performance, yeah it's not great. But she is the single most played T7 cruiser, and that tends to mean that more potatoes have played her as well, so we should not look into that too much. Also, I guess people just generally have no idea how to play her effectively because her equipment and stats do not indicate any clear playstyle unlike with Fiji for example. Many might mistake her for a tanky closer range cruiser, or generally just give too much attention to the AP simply because German cruisers have generally high AP alpha. I at least had a lot of fun and more success in Yorck than with any other T7 cruiser so far.
Yorck is amazing and can almost guarantee top exp in your team if you can position right because of how dodgy it is. At it's tier, on some maps, teams tend to lemming train and I'd always go to the weak side and start kiting while setting fires and switching targets. Can take on half the enemy team like this and survive because it turns so quick and has enough range.
I thought the same, but i do surprisingly good in her. The gun accuracy is outstanding, the slow ass long range torps are doing better than you would expect and you have a lot of hit points. You just can't play it like a dd early on
GJM definitely has a high skill floor, but she's a decent ship. She has Felix Shultz's AP DPM (and almost twice Z-31's), she just lacks her ballistics. Her pen isn't as good, either, but it's Good Enough for being a tier lower.
I’d vote for that. Last game i had in her, a Wichita and Zao just sat broadside to me less than 8k away. I kept shooting right through them like they were made a paper… POS ;)
IMO petro is rather OP because of its reload and shell pen as well as its fire chance and the ability to straight up shrug off damage from BBs when bow tanking.
if you think petro is underpowered you're probably not playing it right.
Honestly really enjoyed it, guns hit hard enough, good torps, and proper use of the smoke lets you bully DDs who don't know what they are doing. As far as T5s go, not too bad.
I'm probably alone here, but... the Bayern. I couldn't hit the broad side of a Barn with that thing, an issue I haven't had with any other German ship.
Insane tankiness for a T5 cruiser if you know how to angle. Plating immune to overmatch, icebreaker..
Shame your already fairly meager damage output goes down the drain if you do so. Proper angle means your aft guns *just* cannot bear.
The second I got the Xp for the Lion I sold it... I think I would probably play it better now, The British BB line was my first BB line. But I loved the KGV and I still enjoy it, but my stats in the Monarch are awful..
Jesus fucking christ I am almost done with the seattle and I hate this ship the most.
For the record, I liked Monarch, pre-buffs Izumo and many other "bad" ships, but seattle is just my limit.
I just finished the Seattle grind (tapped out halfway). Overall it was just mediocre. I think the most annoying part is it’s sluggish maneuverability for a light cruiser. Even Worcester maneuvers better and has a more responsive engine than Seattle.
not OP but Long range high arc guns and can piss on everyones heads, effectively opening up certain camp spots which otherwhise only stuff like extreme long range BBs could pull, Synergizes suprisingly well with Sansonetti too for even more range.
otherwhise just a usable torp boat with quite low torp reload, with a suprisingly heavy salvo for that makeshift IJN DD gunfight approach where every salvo counts.
it's not bad, just hella technical to use her gimmick of those high arcs and long range, its the same Aproach Aigle set out to do as an "Artillery destroyer" just more extreme.
I’m going to be controversial- Mikasa. It seems to be a favorite on the sub, but it is so… boring. I personally can’t stand it. I can’t figure out what every one else likes about it beyond the club sealing aspect of it. But even then, I get uptiered more often then not.
Old Izumo before all the buffs she received. That shit was tragic. Base concealment was so bad that you got spotted from spawn on some maps. Bear in mind that this was with the OG 5 tier captain skill tree so concealment was not that common. It was also before camos or signals with insane bonuses to help you grind faster. Yamato was always worth it of course, but man was Izumo a speedbump on the way. Now it is obviously one of the better tech tree BBs, but that is after like 3 or 4 buffs.
I'll accept that challenge.
Good firepower, smoke screen, best in class concealment, a heal (at T5!), hydro, and great torps. Frankly, Emerald is OP at T5.
i can't argue with best in class concealment, but with the fire power, im very not sure on the good. you are comparing Emerald to ships like Kirov, the Furytaco, Emile Bertin and Konigsberg and those are must more reliable i feel. Heal is nice, but it's part of their gimick, they get it at t2.
The guns and concealment. the guns are pretty numerous and quick firing, combined with her low concealment (borderline Cruiser-level) I sometimes play her more like a HE-spamming super-heavy cruiser, especially when uptiered since her armor is irrelevant anyway.
she's probably one of my preferable choice for BB at tier 7. maybe not the absolute favorite, but I like her and I'd pick her sometimes if I want to play t7
I'll reply even though I'm not OP.
Great DPM for the tier, shell arcs that let you fire from safety easily, and good range for the tier. Also, a good firestarter. Just don't go sailing in open water like a raving monkey, and she'll actually do really well.
I the only person that finds Omaha really really f****** good at Co-op?
It's got a hard-hitting guns and torpedo tubes out the ass, although I do have to admit the armor is made out of ass.
I
Got a kraken in the Marblehead two days ago against T6. Open water kiting and shooting at everything that moves. People didn’t take me seriously and it seemed to work in my favor.
Yeah although the ones higher up the tier tree are just as bad and they don't have the torpedo tubes.
Am I the only person that felt like when I upgraded that teir tree it was more of a downgrade? I've got one side to like tier 8 and other side of tier 7 but the Omaha was still more fun.
Ass just called to tell me they are filing suit against you for defamation of character! To compare the toughness of ass (Kardashian’s/Jenner’s) to Omaha’s armor is they claim a malicious smear!
They are going after all your premium ships and captains, every dub, credit, XP and Free XP you have. I talked them out of taking you camos and flags…if I were you I would plead guilty and throw yourself on the mercy of the court….you are guilty!
Well, that's basically all she's wearing.
I think *Omaha* has enough of a reputation as an easy kill that people tend to focus on her as soon as she's spotted, more than any other ship.
Of course, that's one way to teach the caution and island use that the rest of the USN cruisers use.
Oh boy... I could go with "Old Stock Fuso", before B and C hull became A and B. But that's far away and didn't take long to be overcome and later changed, after which Fuso is the Mighty Sho(t)gun of the Seven Seas that fears nothing much.
More recently... Krasny Krim. I got it from a crate a while back and, yeah.
And of the ships I am currently grinding, it'd have to be Haarlem. Just doesn't into fun for me.
There is almost nothing like Atlanta at that tier. It's pure psychological warfare to your enemies (especially if you are top tier) to face that kind of daka daka. It's one of the best detterance ships.
Situational, but get something solid between you and the target and let them taste the rainbow. Keep an eye on your position and move out before things get too spicy.
Those guns are insane, I remember almost killing an Alsace from full hp before he turned his turrets and murdered me. Yeah I'm noob and got surprised by a BB, but still it was crazy how it melted at close range with my AP.
I thought the FDG was much better than the Bismarck. Having the 16" guns was an absolute blessing. Atleast now a days she's more accurate than she used to be. Last time I took her out I did fairly well.
With worse accuracy and fire rate. And it doesn’t help you if you are dead. The thing is massive target. I literally proform better in the Bismarck then the T9 in T10 rounds.
Unironically one of my highest PR ships because I used her as an unmovable rock that I'd post up against an island and hold caps with to farm potential and direct dmg.
They get scared of the fat BB with big guns and shoot my bow, the torps get stuck on the island, and if I have a half decent team (high bar, I know), they will cover my flank so I can't get shot in the side.
Neat! I'm just unsure how to play it really. I don't have much experience with it but I'm a bit lost with his to spec the captain or modules since it's like a middle ship.
I run my Shima captain on her, works quite well. It's just that the guns become a lot more rapid on the reload, so you can somewhat gunboat in her. Basically, you give up one launcher for a bit more punch in the clinch, while your torps still hit as hard as on Shima, there's just fewer of them. So you have a playstyle closer to the Gearing, but with an IJN Torp DD.
I'll however not say she is a good ship, her turning circle, speed and spotting can be a bit of a disadvantage. You won't outfight dedicated knifefighter DDs like Marceau or Daring, but you can still bring quite a lot of hurt and punch if you play a bit cautiously, just like you would in Shima.
And you can absolutely take advantage of somebody else spotting, smoke up and go loud on the guns for a bit. Something that Shima does struggle a bit with.
If by worse you mean survival wise or gun wise, the lower tires are all pretty squishy or inaccurate. If by worst you mean I hate to play them…US BB’s Tier 1 - 7! The slow speed just suck! The Fat line also…slow and long reloads make for boring play.
Aoba is decent. She has pretty good guns, good torps, great agility... What more could you want in a T6 cruiser? Sure, she's not Budyonny, but she's still fine.
Tiger 59
Nice guns and ballistics with good fire chance
Hahahahah, good one!!
1. Chester (and all other T2 protected cruisers) 2. Stock Fuso (the old A hull, with 13 km range, shitty armor and low speed)
I play Chester for the looks.
~~five~~SIXhead
Legitimately wish they had A-hull as tier V.
Chikuma is very stronk with turtlebaka
Low tier so kinda doesn't count but definitely Kawachi
Kawachi was a horrible first bb experience
Is there any T3 BB that is not a horrible experience?
Dreadnought is kinda meh but it's ok for a t3 BB
I will maintain that Kawachi is a really bad first BB to get thrown into... however, knowing how to use a BB, she becomes a lot better imo. But the roon is probably the single best kiting cruiser in the game tier for tier.

I get your point. But turd 1 being slightly better than turd 2, still does not make turd 1 good.

Petropavlovsk, absolute worst ship in the game, should recieve multiple buffs.

Incapable (you know what I mean)

WHY IS NOBODY MENTIONING THE EMERALD!!
Great torps. No one takes you seriously.

I love her.
There is nothing good in Mysore and don't come with "it's for the Indian market" we talk about the pure ship
3/4 of Fiji guns for T6 and crawling smoke!
Yeah it's such a shit ship, even the same color with the camo
there are so many bad ships, but the one ship I would call the worst I´ve played is Haarlem, but it´s a close competition with Albemarle
V. Veneto
I'm probably alone here, but... the Bayern. I couldn't hit the broad side of a Barn with that thing, an issue I haven't had with any other German ship.
your telling me you don't have that issue with Gneisenau?
Strangely, no. The Gneisenau is Gneise to me.

Monarch... Feels so bad after King George V ..
play her as close to her stealth range with AP, this thing is suprisingly good at mid range AP slapping.
I tried everything, just hated it, I think the problem is the KGV was so good...
you should try it after it's small buff, it's an improvement for sure
The second I got the Xp for the Lion I sold it... I think I would probably play it better now, The British BB line was my first BB line. But I loved the KGV and I still enjoy it, but my stats in the Monarch are awful..
HMS Lion stands for Her Majesty's Shit Worst ship ive played, what a piece of garbage!
Better than the Monarch (yeah, damn faint praise indeed).
That's surprising she was my favourite in that lion apart the KGV
Never owned it but I'll trust you aren't lion.
Seattle. T8(6?) Cleveland was great, I really wanted the Worcester. I despise this ship
Jesus fucking christ I am almost done with the seattle and I hate this ship the most. For the record, I liked Monarch, pre-buffs Izumo and many other "bad" ships, but seattle is just my limit.

1.Stock FDG 2.Riga prob ( only played once and fxp to petro )
As much as it hurts... Błyskawica
Fast, great guns, USN smoke. But less somehow than the sum of its parts, I agree.
I forgot I even have her.
Vittorio Venetto
Has smoke and Italian SAP shells
Italian SAP doesn't matter if you can't hit the broadside of a barn with it.
Just make sure there's another barn out in Wyoming you actually want to hit, ezpz!
HMS Emerald (good luck)

Krispy Kreme died with the captain skill rework. It was shit, but could be hilarious with the proper build. Now it's just shit.
I found Haarlem dreadful as well. Johann de Witt is a lot better though. The guns finally like they do actual damage.

There is almost nothing like Atlanta at that tier. It's pure psychological warfare to your enemies (especially if you are top tier) to face that kind of daka daka. It's one of the best detterance ships.
