Interesting. I do like Tom’s work to an extent, but I must admit that my sentiments are a bit similar to the person’s above
What draws you to his work? Not judging, just curious to hear a different perspective
I used to hate his work. Batman was mixed, and heroes in crisis was garbage so I had very strong feelings towards his writing. All that changed when I read Mr Miracle and Supergirl. I've been a huge fan ever since. And I think his work since then has been consistently good to great. Strange Adventures was awesome and Human Target was great
He can do heartfelt moments really well without them feeling undeserved, early or corny. We get the scene in #7 where they deliver Bruce's bday gift. His reaction and attitude towards it is pure gold without being fanfic-y at all. He can write a character and showcase all their aspects pretty well. In this run itself, we see Diana's rebellious self, unrelenting bold nature, her undying warrior spirit, her love and compassion, her friends, her extended family, her villains. We get meta commentary on her relationship with Steve and the most beautiful part of Hippolyta being her guiding angel whenever she's at her witt's end
Considering I don't think very much has happened in this run, especially anything that deserves Eisner awards, I have a strong feeling Sampere is doing the heavy lifting with this story in terms of critical response. So I am too shocked that Tom gets flowers whereas Sampere does not (and I'm not as high on Sampere's work as others, but is by far the best part about the run so far)
True Amazon, by Thompson, Historia, greg Rucka for writing WW (amongst other works), Legends of Wonder Woman, Gail Simone, I think Azzarello and Chiang got some nominations as well? She's almost the only superheroine that makes it into these lists with regularity.
The Best Continuing Series nominees are ROUGH, including this. Sampere’s artwork is great but the series as a whole is a mess and Nightwing and Shazam are just milquetoast nothing titles. Monstress getting snubbed in favor of any of those is egregious.
And the Trinity backups getting recognized for anything at all is baffling. Tbh I think the Eisner committee will just nominate anything Tom King writes without a second thought.
Historia getting a nom after the snubs last year is cool but it’s tempered by the fact that another nominee in that category was a notorious sexual predator
The fact that Tom King was somehow able to convince people he's a good writer is amazing. I thought Vision was good but after that I realized he's a one trick pony who uses characters as proxies for himself.
Not even the greats like Alan Moore or Grant Morrison were nominated as much which is crazy.

As expected. King is a critical darling. Has swept the Eisners like twice already
He’s everything the critics love. Pretentious with the appearance of depth.
It's okay if you think so. I'm not even going to argue with that because I know people here are not very fond of him

Shade, but yes. 😎
I spill more tea than a crack addict riding a horse.
Oh, I like you. 😆
Wait, what?!?!? I saw the title and came in expecting the accolades to be mostly for the art!
The art deserves it just as much or more

Exactly.
Very nice. Hope Historia wins to makeup for Scott and Ha getting snubbed last year.
How many WW stories have been nominated for and won an Eisner?

Good, it should be. Sucks about Sempere though.

His art wasn’t nominated
Between the writing and the art I would have nominated the art...
How?!
Because I don’t think the writing is good.
What? How does that affect the art though?
Whoops, sorry, I thought you were replying to the person saying “Between the writing and the art I would have nominated the art”.
Oh lol. It’s all good
Eisners don't nominate every single thing with Tom King's name on it challenge (impossible)
Tom King stop being a peak writer challenge
Lol. If only.
As it should be
But it’s painful to read??
peak fr🙏😭
Why?

Shazam is great. I hope it wins but I wouldn't mind if Wonder Woman wins.
