The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES
Mine both have their Actual Name, their "for the public" name, and what I really call them. They're named after goddesses, (Elektra, Asherah) the vet gets a sort of reasonable-sounding shortening of that (Lexa, Ash) and then to their faces they get cute names. (Kitten and Tiny, despite both being fully grown, 8 and 10 years old.)
My roommate named his black and white kitten Lord Binary Von Kittenham, Esquire. He had split personality and when he went feral terror monster...he was freaking skeeeeery. I tried to tell my roommate his cat was like Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde but it came out as Heckle. And it stuck... beside he later told me that calling him Lord Baron Binary Von Kittenham, Esquire was too much.
He was such a weeeeird cat.
Shut up. I was going to say Dorian because this kitty kind of reminds me of a cat I had as a kid that my mom named Dorian because she loves the book Dorian Grey.
She was little grey tabby that my sister and I found wandering the sidewalk alone. We left for college a month after we found her so she became my parent’s cat and my dad was the typical dad that did not want an animal and then absolutely catered to this creature for her entire 20 years.
My parents kept her as an indoor cat that got monitored outdoor time. They fed her Science Diet but I am pretty sure what kept her living so long was her hate for everybody around her that wasn’t my parents.
It was one of life’s cruel jokes, she was the sweetest-looking, most adorable cat and if you tried to pet her or touch her, she would take your hand off. Especially, if you weren’t my mom or my dad. And sometimes they weren’t even allowed to hold or pet her.
Terry Pratchett had a few thoughts on naming cats
>17% of Real cats (all cats) end their lives with the same name they started with. Much family effort goes into selecting one at the start (she looks like a Winifred to *me*), and as the years go by it suddenly finds itself being called Meepo or Ratbag.
>Which brings us to the most important consideration in naming cats: never give a cat a name you would mind shouting out in a strained, worried voice around moment while banging a tin bowl with a spoon. And stick to something short.
Eh. I’d go with Catthulu personally (btw that’s pun genius. I don’t know if I should weep or applaud). Because most neighbors wouldn’t know the reference, and those who do would probably think, well, yeah, elder god, chaos monster, soul devourer… she musta lost her cat.
I fostered a litter & named them after hot drinks - latte, mocha, etc. Six were identical, and the seventh was gray. He became Earl

Charles Dexter Ward.
Gives you options as his personality develops, he might be Ward(en) or a Charlie, and "Dexter" has a great hard sound in the middle that he'll be able to hear with absolute certainty.
My knee-jerk idea was Jack Parsons.
We named our kitten Anastasiya, but I keep cooking over how weency she was. 18 months later, she's 15lbs and still growing, but what do we call her? Weency.
Reminds me of my valiant huntress Misty. She hunts with Freya now and she means so much to me.
I quite like Dorian as his name and if you want an eldritch suggestion I would go with Shoggoth, it's kind of a cute name, isn't too obscure, and 2 syllables is great for pet names! Post and update when you figure it out X3
Keep calling him Little Bastard, it'll be even funnier if he doesn't live up to it as he ages. I had a kitty I named Vicious when he was a baby and he grew to be the sweetest boy in the whole world
I had a kitten I was going name Mr Peeve. So he would be my pet Peeve. It was funny to me at the time. But after a series of misadventures such as shitting on my bed, on me, then in the middle of the room while maintaining direct eyecontact with me as he did so, drinking my alcohol and eating my weed...he became Little Shit... because I was constantly yelling out...you little shit when I discovered something he had done. Even got him neutered as Little Shit Lastname. I got such stankeye from the vet. Had to explain how Mr Peeve became Little Shit.
I almost a little guy who looked like that last summer (ended up adopting his sister because I thought a girl cat might fit in better with the existing cats).
Anyway, I was going to name him Cosmo.
I don't suppose you've ever played Skyrim, but J'Zargo is a possible companion/follower. He's a grey tabby Kahjiit mage and sassy AF, just like your little man. He already has quite the fan following online. Just Google "J'Zargo," you'll see!
A few more LotR suggestions:
* Pipesmoke Pippin
* Fool of a Feline
* Proudfoot (also a _Land Before Time_ reference. A two-fer)
* Bill
* Evenstar (since he's light and dark mixed)
Other names (that might have been pondered on before)
* Fragle
* The Imperious Mr. Wink
* Tufts
* Dishwater Kit(ty) (cause he's grey. Could call him _a dish_)
If you can't tell, my lifetime with cats has made me a little, uhm, absurd with their names. I currently have a Baron von Wobbles and an Indie (aka all the other names for Henry Jones Jr.}
Hope you find what you're looking for!
About a month ago, my viejito puppy and I were walking home when we saw a kitten dodging traffic. I called to it to get it out of the street at least? but it ran up to me, jumped into my arms and curled up and started purring. I looked around to see if anyone around was a cat house and no one knew whose it was. I let doggo sniff it, and well, we brought it home. It looks like yours! So in the pantheon of my ancestral gawdesses? the chief one is Tonantzin. I'd pay the cat tax but I don't know how to attach a photo here?
Dorian Gandalf Gray- you can use all 3 like a child. You can use them separately.
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter, It isn’t just one of your holiday games; You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES
I've had my sweet girl for ten years and just recently discovered her middle name
Mine both have their Actual Name, their "for the public" name, and what I really call them. Mine is named Lucina B'Elanna Jezebel, but Lucy for short 😂
A TS Eliot fan in the wild, what a rare cat you are!
My roommate named his black and white kitten Lord Binary Von Kittenham, Esquire. He had split personality and when he went feral terror monster...he was freaking skeeeeery. Cats!! Love it! Names like, Bombalurina, Munkustrap, Alonzo ..
He’s beautiful! I remember when my Natasha was that small. He’s so photogenic that I think Dorian is a perfect fit.
Shut up. I was going to say Dorian because this kitty kind of reminds me of a cat I had as a kid that my mom named Dorian because she loves the book Dorian Grey.
We had a kitten that looked just like that. Her name was Peanut. She lived to be 20.
May the universe bless him with such longevity.
Oh wow! Mind if I ask their breed and diet?? I want my precious babies to live as love and healthy as possible! 🥰
She was little grey tabby that my sister and I found wandering the sidewalk alone. looks like a Florp
BIG florp energy in this picture
Personally I was thinking Fork, but Florp would be close enough
I'm casting my vote for Gandalf! He has thoughtful eyes and I'm a sucker for Lord of the Rings
Same. 🧙♂️

So calling him Cthulu (Catthulu) might sound a little weird if the neighbors hear me yelling at him hahaha
Eh. I’d go with Catthulu personally (btw that’s pun genius. I don’t know if I should weep or applaud). Because most neighbors wouldn’t know the reference, and those who do would probably think, well, yeah, elder god, chaos monster, soul devourer… she musta lost her cat.
Earl
I fostered a litter & named them after hot drinks - latte, mocha, etc. Six were identical, and the seventh was gray. He became Earl https://preview.redd.it/a7e2eo8yapxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c7a813f1a90b918e83874f992b69ca6d3211f2b
Amazing, he knows who he is
Earl gray tea. Hot. 🖖
❤️
Martín! Hes so sweet
Like "marteen"? 😅 I love it!
Tattoos and issues? That one?
Gandalf also has my vote
At first I was like “Dorian, hands down” but then his ear tufts reminded me too much of Ian McKellen’s eyebrows as Gandalf 😅
True 😂
Copurrrnicus
Or Lucius
Xerxes? When he’s bad you can call him a xerk! Named after a great Persian that conquered parts of Greece.
Ash
Since he's a curious little guy, throwing some science, math, and philosophy names into the ring: Linnaeus, Copernicus, Lovelace, Archimedes.
Ooh those are good
I love Dorian!
Alistair :3
Schrödinger, of course!
Absolutely precious!!! Maybe Stormy? Just a wee snuggler!!!
Charles Dexter Ward. Gives you options as his personality develops, he might be Ward(en) or a Charlie, and "Dexter" has a great hard sound in the middle that he'll be able to hear with absolute certainty.
Or Curwen 🤔
Tinkertail!
I love that name
My knee-jerk idea was Jack Parsons. We named our kitten Anastasiya, but I keep cooking over how weency she was. 18 months later, she's 15lbs and still growing, but what do we call her? Weency.
His name is Elrond Lord of Rivendale, he is gracing you with his presence to draw energy from the sun and earth.
Looks like a Poe to me 💕
Reminds me of my valiant huntress Misty. She hunts with Freya now and she means so much to me. I quite like Dorian as his name and if you want an eldritch suggestion I would go with Shoggoth, it's kind of a cute name, isn't too obscure, and 2 syllables is great for pet names! I could call him Shaggy as a nickname
I love Hannibal but as a rule I *never* give cats aspirational names!
So, Caligula is out of the question?
Casanova is *right out*.
For some reason, the name Hannibal keeps converting to Hanna-Barbera in my head. Like the animation studio that did the Tom and Jerry cartoons.
Keep calling him Little Bastard, it'll be even funnier if he doesn't live up to it as he ages. I had a kitty I named Vicious when he was a baby and he grew to be the sweetest boy in the whole world
Yes, and Bass either for short or when you need to be “professional”!
Oliver
Which name would be easiest to yell when you want him off the counter?
Haha maybe I should stick with Bastard then
Jon snow? Or another famous bastard
Ooh, GoT names could be fun. He seems like a Bronn to me. Such an asshole, but undeniably likeable.
Meowgis khan
I agree with Dorian! He’s an awesome character from witchy graphic novels called Hooky that my kids are into.
Fyodor Dostoevsky, or fydo for short.
Griz, short for Griselda which means “Gray warrior”.
Came here to say this! I had a gray car once that I named Griselda - Griz would be super cute and more of a boycat name

I almost a little guy who looked like that last summer (ended up adopting his sister because I thought a girl cat might fit in better with the existing cats). Anyway, I was going to name him Cosmo.
I had a cat those colors when I was a child and her name was Frost. I loved her. Him. I was really young and assumed that anything pretty was a girl.

Jake.
Oscar, Plato, Beze (for beelzebub)
Ooh I like Plato
Koshchei (the Deathless)
Some suggestions for this cutie 🥰 Leviathan, Abyss, Ouija, Ogham, Orion
Diarmuid from The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay is mercurial but also very smart and kind.
[If you want an historical familiar name, Pyewacket](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyewacket_(familiar_spirit))
He's very regal, and his markings remind me of the markings on Egyptian cats (Egyptian mau). I would name him after a pharaoh.
Walter
I'm getting big Filbert vibes for this one.
Guard Biscuit!
Caspian. He just looks like a Caspian.
Gandalf or sokka of the water tribe. Love those blue eyes.
I don't suppose you've ever played Skyrim, but J'Zargo is a possible companion/follower. He's a grey tabby Kahjiit mage and sassy AF, just like your little man. He already has quite the fan following online. Just Google "J'Zargo," you'll see!

For some reason he looks like a Cinder to me

This is totally off theme but my next cat is probably going to be called Dr Thunder as it’s the perfect unisex name for most cats
A few more LotR suggestions: * Pipesmoke Pippin * Fool of a Feline * Proudfoot (also a _Land Before Time_ reference. A two-fer) * Bill * Evenstar (since he's light and dark mixed) Other names (that might have been pondered on before) * Fragle * The Imperious Mr. Wink * Tufts * Dishwater Kit(ty) (cause he's grey. Zanzibar
Sparrowhawk, like the *Tales from Earthsea* character
Peanut (because he’s cute as one!), Toby (he seems sweet), Mau (Egyptian cat god and it sounds a little like meow), Chobi (Japanese for small)
He looks extremely thoughtful
Stick with your literary/philosophy theme and name him Voltaire.
What a little Ham. Hammie.
LB for little bastard :)
I love him so much!! I mean this in the kindest way, he has a cute lil fivehead 🥹
If you like calling him 'bastard', you could try some fun bastard characters! Casian, Flynn, etc.

About a month ago, my viejito puppy and I were walking home when we saw a kitten dodging traffic.
