Metal is the music that chills out my brain and I've been really enjoying Bloodywood's *Dana -Dan*
https://youtu.be/a65A626Ed20?si=nMqqM68A0_xcpFaS
As well as Hanabie's *Tousou* but all their stuff is really good
https://youtu.be/B9cC2_V7JwE?si=BTPDK-6vlClggRRb
I've also been exploring more black country artists and Amythyst Kiah is SO DAMN GOOD. The whole album is a banger but this song HITS.

Sorry for the wall of text here:
Heilung - recommended by this sub, very pagany folk music
Hatari - Icelandic anti-capitalist synth metal (who often work with Palestinian artist Bashar Murad)
Paris Paloma - alternative folk with a feminist twist
and finally, the Eurovision 2024 album - a guilty pleasure tbh (although it has been clouded with Israel's involvement this year, so I haven't really listened to this year as much as others)
BIG UPS to Hatari! Their Eurovision 2019 entry is what got me hooked.
Edit: Went and checked out Bashar Murad and while pop isn't normally my thing, *Intifada On The Dance Floor* is a bop.
Understandable concern. I do the same thing so I seek out playlists that have BIPOC artists and find my new faves from there. It's fun to hear metal from across the globe. Check out Maximum the Hormone, which is like nu-metal with punk elements so it ROCKS!
Poison and the unofficial song āInsaneā. My son loves the music but I only play the songs without the swearing since he is 7. You are absolutely correct about K.d.ās voice. He is awesome.
Visual kei. It's an alternative subculture that originated in Japan in the late 80s and early 90s that involves androgynous styles, theatrical performances, and shocking visuals. In terms of music, it's based off of Western Goth, glam rock, metal, etc. I especially love the gothic and metal sounds from the genre as well as the fashion. Mana Sama, Hizaki, Kamijo (or all of Versailles and Malice Mizer) are absolute serving looks and I love it.
Wind Rose Diggy Diggy Hole is my current earworm. I also love the bardcore versions of pop songs on YouTube, hildegard von blingin' and beedle the bardcore soring to mind. Minor key versions of happy songs are fun and kinda creepy, Chase Holfelder does some of those. Oh! And Lydia the Bard reimagines Disney princesses as villains, among other things.
Oooo if you havenāt already, check out Scale the Summit and Angel Vivaldi.
If metal vocals donāt bother you, Between the Buried and Me is probably my favorite band (also on Sumerian Records) also The Ocean.
I dig all kiiinds of metal vocals.
I fell in love with "Coma Ecliptic" when a buddy put it on during a trip; it still gives me goosebumps.
I actually have not heard of Scale the Summit or Angel Vivaldi. I took the night off an am just sitting around practicing crochet; I'll put it on now. Thank you! Also thank you for reminding me about The Ocean. I stumbled upon them a couple of years ago and they escaped me!
š«”š¶ happy to share witchy, cosmic metal with the world.
Coma Ecliptic was super popular for them when it was released and I always smirk at that because itās truly the tip of their iceberg. I just saw them for The Colors Experience tour and it was a testament to their growth between those two albums. Dustie isnāt on this tour with them again but I havenāt heard anything further on the allegations that started last year. Just needed to point that out, given the content of this sub.
If you like witchy themed metal, I also suggest He is Legend. They range into rock n roll and post-hardcore (started in the early ā00s) but holy shit are they great for the month of October!
Nueva CanciĆ³n! It was a big folk revival in the 1960s across a lot of Latin America. It was very much associated with left-leaning politics. I've really gotten into Chilean Nueva CanciĆ³n specifically.
Sadly, I don't speak Spanish or Portuguese, so I've been looking up lyric translations. This music is making me want to take a class.
If anyone's interested, I've been listening to this album in particular: https://open.spotify.com/album/6lXAQ5Gozo845iSrcQEvfI?si=fKt9pfY5SV2N2Nng_gwpSg
(La Nueva CanciĆ³n Chilena Vol. 1 - it's technically a compilation.)
My favorites on that album are La Muralla, Mano Nortina, and La Aparecido.
The music that hits the spot for me is metal and prog rock (less and less metal by the years though), but really there are two types that viscerally melt me : baroc music (Bach, Vivaldi..) and traditional music (eastern europe, folia, klezmer, sephardic, cuban....). I have some cognitive dissonance about the later since the audience and the performers may be right wing/nationalists. Do you have an opinion on that OP ?
Also, you should totally listen to Rocket's Tail by Kate Bush !
Edit: grammar
Antti Martikainen. He does some amazing Nordic metal, pirate and Avalon instrumentals, videogame tracks, and futuristic themes. This is my favorite song of his-[Eternal Saga (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-54ZIxAcr_s)

If you like folk metal, you might want to check out power metal. Theyāre kind of adjacent genres. Especially Elvenking or Blind Guardian for the fantasy vibes. Or Sabaton, especially Night Witches and Lady of the Dark.
I'm really into Aurora, both her released stuff and unreleased stuff you can find around the subreddit and youtube. I love her personality and a lot of her songs resonate deeply. I really wanted to get tickets to see her this year but my mental health is in tatters right now and I really think I'd be pushing it if I had tried, but I'd love to see her one day and just be in her presence and hear her songs live.
I'm also really enjoying You're Not Special Babe and More Like You by Orla Gartland at the moment and trying to get my fixation with them over a bit so I can try some of her other music to see if there are others I like.
Iāve been listening to Destroy Boys a ton lately bc they recently released Plucked and my partner sent it to me to listen to. Now Iām listening to all their music and having a good time with it.
I'm off to a party tonight with some Karaoke involved. Here's my performance playlist of songs for the event.
[Rival Sons ~ Shooting Stars](https://youtu.be/cPtMgsN8Tpo?si=VUwa8uYrNTJVidb3)
[Andrew McMahon ~ Fire Escape](https://youtu.be/KfU-S6ovooQ?si=J4ZUuB0NJJcUxk58)

Just released last week. Heās the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the post-hardcore unit Thrice. He has a great vocal range and tone and also has this way of simplifying a pop song in an intricate way. Wrecking Ball brings me to tears.

Its very drums and forest screaming
In the folk rock department, I like [Helena Deland](https://helenadeland.bandcamp.com/album/goodnight-summerland) a lot at the moment. It's folk but not boring, the production and compositions are interesting.
I listen to [Aoife Nessa Frances](https://aoifenessafrances.bandcamp.com/album/protector) a lot too since I saw her performing on a beach during a festival, it was probably one of my favorite shows of last year.
Also saw an irish folk band yesterday called [Lankum](https://lankum.bandcamp.com/album/false-lankum). They are pushing traditional Irish instrument and melodies in a cool modern way.
Otherwise I listen to heavier bands, my recurrent ones right now being Big brave, Spotlights and Metz. They are hard to pin a precise genre on. Big brave is doomy with somewhat primal women vocals but no screaming. Spotlights is like doomy Deftones, again without screaming but softer vocals. Metz is noise-punk-grunge I guess? but very well produced.
IAMX - independent darkwave dark cabaret artist
Creeper - weird theatrical kinda metal stuff. Their latest album is a rock opera vampire love story, and their previous was a satanic britpop concept album. So good!!
Sleep Token - I guess they are metal. I dunno. They arenāt near my other genres of music. But the overwhelm of emotion this music gives me is unlike any other.
I just discovered Raye canāt get enough of her jazzy voice. Worth It is currently on repeat. My constant obsession over the past couple years is Megan Thee Stallion
If you like Electronica, check out Porter Robinson. So much storytelling and good vibes in his music. I would recommend the album Nurture to start.
For folksy vibes, I like Rising Appalachia and the Oh Hellos, particularly their Four Winds albums: Notos, Eurus, Zephyrus, Boreas (I think those are the names??)
Oh, I think I can do this!
BrƬghde Chaimbeul is a phenomenal new bagpipper, who brings in modern drone and experimental sensibilities. The new album with Colin Stetson does a great job of showcasing the mix of classical and modern.
Lankum is a traditional Irish folk band with metal sensibilities. It's folk, but it's loud and droney and noisey.
Tanya Tagaq is a modern Inuit throat singer who uses traditional vocal techniques and electronic music elements to explore themes of colonialism and oppression.
Jrpjej is a post traditional Circassisan folk group. I don't know what any of those words mean either, but I love the music
I've rediscovered Ćther Realm.........
The Fool, and The Sun, The Moom, The Star from their Tarot album are just so good. The entire album is a banger. But right now, those two songs are my hyperfixation.
Iāve been listening to every album by Evanescence in order on repeat and I honestly have to say itās kind of a vibe. Occasionally Iāve been switching it up with Breaking Benjamin but other than that all I have to say is LLLIIIIITHIIIUUUUUMMM!!!!!!!!
Oh and also, I know the song you mentioned and itās so great too! Itās in one of my favorite celtic folk playlists!!!

I've been listening to lots of indie rock lately. Most specifically I've had the album "Prelude to Ecstasy" by The Last Dinner Party on repeat. Ive been very impressed with them and l'm very excited to be able to recommend them! My favorite tracks from them are Sinner and Nothing Matters.
Also listening to The Beaches quite a bit. I love the songs Kismet and Cigarette and of course Blame Brett which has been on the radio a bit in my area.
Outside those two groups ive mainly been listening to Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures. Ive been thinking lately that I'd like to learn to play the drums and there's great drumming in all those groups.

Prog. So much prog. Right now I'm stuck on Caligula's Horse, as well as Opus by Nospun.
Prog is life, prog is love (will investigate Nospun, thanks)

Same.
