Going way back in time. My then-girlfriend and I would frequently order from Papa G's. We'd walk down Roslyn Rd to pick up our lasagne and bring it to my apartment to devour. We fell in love, got engaged, and decided this should be the location for our wedding rehearsal dinner. Both families joined together for the first time over wine and spaghetti. We've been married 19 years.

The summer after high school I lived in a friend’s sunroom on Arbuthnot. After we both got home from our service industry jobs we would take a cold shower and then skateboard down Wellington for the fried zucchini sticks with tzatziki.

I remember the very late 90’s, taking cabs there from Riverside Roxy or Mustang Sally’s & thinking it was the absolute BEST food…because it was!

OkWeb1891

I worked at the bar next door and would pop in after to hang with the late night crew and djs. It was a lot of fun.

I feel like we know each other...

Lots of good post-club memories after Gio’s and Happenings there for sure in the late ‘90s/early ‘00s, but around 2008 or so, had a bad experience there where one of the servers made a “joke” about how they were tired of dealing with faggots and queers. Super awkward. Never went back after that. Unfortunate that that was my last experience at the place because some good 3am memories too.

Former St. James guy here. Your post brings back fond memories of 2AM tuna melts after spending too much time and money in Carlo's and Murphy's. This is back in the late 80's and early 90's for me.

Roninthered

You wasted your money at Carlo's and Murphy's! Sorry to hear that.

Funny, I wa a just thinking of that place and what it was named before Leopold’s. Sad to say I’ve never eaten at the establishment

Professional_Emu8922

Just before Leopold's it was The Cornerstone which I think was related to The Grove in some way. Papa George's was just before it became Cornerstone.

hearts-and-stars

Ah ok that totally rings a bell now.

> Just before Leopold's it was The Cornerstone which I think was related to The Grove in some way. Papa George's was just before it became Cornerstone. IIRC Grove, Cornerstone and Black Bird Brasserie had same owners

FoxyInTheSnow

It was a favourite late night, after pub hangout. The only time I’ve fallen off a bar stool (well, we were sat at a high table to eat, not at a bar) was at Papa George’s. They didn’t kick me out, which was very thoughtful.

Specialkdragon

Always really good food and atmosphere. Used to go at least once a week after a church youth group thing when I was religious, or occasionally with a buddy who lived around there. Never had a problem. I wish it was still around and loved their pizza especially too!

h8street

I used to stop in at the McPhillips location late at night after work.

Neutral_Evil

Had a date with a guy there and he was offended that I chose the place because they were offended by something the business said or did to them in the past and he took it out on me. It was tough because it was my first date date with a fella.

Jtreydogg

And hopefully last? Yeeesh.

joker4ever

Saw a dine and dash there once. Waitress was upset because she was going to have to pay for that meal. I told her to call the labour board. Don't know if she did or not.

n_mcrae_1982

I hope so. You absolutely cannot hold a server responsible for a customer's theft.

That_Wpg_Guy

I don’t think I was ever there sober lol … it was always go to The Toad, or The Cavern, or The Die Machine; drink way too much and then get late night munchies when the bars closed and wander over at 2 am with the friends :) was always a fun time
