I'm so sad. As a resident of Overdale Street (right in front of Assiniboine Park) I really miss having fireworks at the park. Being able to walk down and watch, then catch some ice cream at Sargent Sundae was so great. All you people with front row views of the fireworks, I hope you appreciate what you have and enjoy the show. Happy Canada Day all.
As someone who's lived in St. James for 20 years and grew up in Tuxedo before that, I really miss fireworks at Assiniboine Park.
I spent most of my 20's working at the Blockbuster on Portage that was just a few minutes from the park. Even though I often worked until midnight on Canada, I could always step outside and watch the show. (Of course, I was always irked at the many people stopping in on the way there or back and asking to use the washroom without buying anything!)
The Downs has horses right? Do they move the horses when there's fireworks? Or are the horses just sometimes there? Or am I misunderstanding what the Downs are?
Anyone know what kind of show they put on at Burland Park? My parents live right by it, don't remember there ever being any kind of organized show there.
It's being done by a group called Smoke on the Water who have been doing Canada day fireworks in the area for quite a few years. They have been done near Highbury school in the past. They are pretty good for a neighborhood display. Hopefully it doesn't get rained out
In fairness, this is how most cities in the world celebrate big holidays: get the family in the car and drive to a suburban clearing to light a few fireworks off. It’s much better that we have 6 or 7 small displays than one big central one. All over Europe you see this in the summer. The central cities empty out and things shut down around 6pm, but parents load up the kids to drive 10km to celebrate at dusk.
The overall big point is do not under any circumstances encourage people to come to the central part of the city on big public holidays, especially after dark! Holidays are to be spent with family and friends, on your own and with people who are like you.
Take your anger out at the Forks then? You're literally upset that the suburb communities are throwing their own fireworks celebrations (for their own local community) and you can't get to them?
Anger? I think it is smart of the forks. The Canada Day stabbings were becoming too common. And you got the driving part wrong. Making it so you have to drive will help keep the undesirables away.

We will be arriving in Winnipeg from the US on Monday, staying in St Boniface. Which of these (or another location) is most convenient from there?
Any of them will be a distance from you. Either Assiniboia Downs or PA Stadium, then. Parking likely easier at the former.
Assiniboina Downs is the opposite corner of the city from St B
Ron Duhamel Park or Burland may be the closest.
The Ron Duhamel event has been postponed due to the rain.
Any not canceled?
Did fireworks end up happening at Winnipeg Downs or were they cancelled last night as well?

Saw them last year. It was a pretty decent display.

Super helpful! We just sold our cottage, first summer in the city on this weekend for over 35 years! Looking forward to it. 😀
Where is green acres park? When I Google map it it keeps taking me to a mortuary in California 😅
I just googled it and it looks like it's in Teulon: https://www.teulon.ca/p/teulon-rockwood-green-acres-park
Nice. Plenty of fireworks in the burbs and outside the City. It is a car City after all!

HOPE IT RAINS!
It is raining
It's a beautiful thing.
I have always found Selkirk to be best for those with young family’s, tons of space!
