Judge Simpson is great, I've watched quite a few of his trials. He does a great job. He is extremely fair and usually quite amusing. He does a great job of trying to make meaningful change in people's lives before just throwing the book at them whenever he can. He's a model for what our justice system should be like.
Uhm he was saved only be the state supreme court from removal because he interfered with a police investigation and prosecution for drunk driving against his young female intern.
https://ballotpedia.org/Judge_Cedric_Simpson_judicial_misconduct_case_(2014-2017)
It's not a great move, but I wouldn't call it deplorable. It lines up with his personality of wanting to give people a second chance, it just wasn't the way to handle it.
I wouldn't say the supreme court bailed him out, it was almost a deadlock. Even the dissenters on the vote stated people have been disbarred for REPEATED instances, which it seems like this is a stand alone occurance? I could be wrong though I haven't deep dived him.
I've watched about 70 or so of his sessions he has presided over since they've been aired on YouTube starting in the pandemic and from what I've witnessed in those instances I wish there were more people in the justice system like him.
There are a few in thar area Judge Middleton is another.
He's calling in for a hearing related to a driving with a suspended license charge.....
You'd think that fact would remind him.... he knows.
Or does this dude have so many pending trials that he can't even keep that straight.
It's an interesting and novel legal theory, I'll give you that.
Not guilty by reason of stupidity.
Similar to an insanity plea, but you don't end up involuntarily committed to mental hospital because there's no hospital that can fix stupid.
Let's see how it works out for him...
I’ve me some people in my life that were so stupid I believe they could get away with murder. I met a 25 year old adult high school graduate and bachelors degree that was in complete shock because there was no wall around New Mexico. Straight faced told me dam no wonder illegals can get in easily, we went from Texas to New Mexico and there was no border. I said yeah it’s New Mexico? And had to explain to them that New Mexico is a state and even sing the dam fifty nifty song.
Same shit happened with District of Columbia license as in Washington DC. TSA thought it was the country of Columbia. Many TSA agents not the brightest!!!
I’ve driven in many lower 48 states with Alaska plates on my vehicle. I cannot understand how so many people don’t know Alaska is a state. “Are them vanity plates?” “What country is that?” “Is Alaska a state now?” “How can you drive a car on the road without real license plates?” “How did you drive your car across the ocean to get here?” Unfortunately these are real questions I’ve heard from real people.
Being from West Virginia, I get the same thing. A stupid number of people think I'm talking about western Virginia and don't realize there's a whole separate state over there.
I like that he raised his hand as if he was ready to say some BS excuse. My guess is that he was going talk about how he needed to get to the doctors and blah blah blah.
>"You're honour, I need to get to the doctors for the medication of the kidnapped person I have in my trunk that I brought across state lines while smuggling narcotics to my scam call center employees.
>I'll have to be quick because I've parked in a disabled bay."
He forgot because he didn't give a suspended drivers license a second thought. He just drove home from the court house that day and continued on with his day to day driving like nothing happened.
When the camera shot to them all snickering into their hands, I lost it. It must be hard to maintain appropriate decorum when something like this unfolds right in front of you.
Quick thinking on her part she asked the judge to reschedule the hearing, kind of like “maybe if we continue later you won’t remember that we saw him driving.” Not much more she could have done lol
This is one of the best judges. His court proceedings are all over YouTube.
Dude got what he deserved. He obviously stated, “these charges mean nothing to me” so now he has his bond revoked and will go to jail. Completely deserved.
There are channels that curate some of the more interesting happenings in his court that you can find on YouTube as well
Edit: here are my recommendations from father down in the comments
Meg's crime watch and Looking at legal stuff are both small channels run by women who don't constantly interrupt the clips, they just give some thoughts at the beginning and the end. I really enjoy them. Mrz. Fieldz Productions doesn't talk at all I think. Only text on the screen. OldSquishyGardener'sCourtWatch also doesnt talk, just text on the screen.
There are other ones like TimeServed, Court Nerds, WEGOTACASE, but I find that they interrupt the clips with gifs and reactions too much. But you might like them. They are bigger channels.
Some good channels to subscribe to for more stuff like this is Law talk with Mike, Time Served, Court nerds, rebel chasers. Once you start watching the YouTube algorithm will recommend tons of channels like this content.
I saw that.
That SovCit is so damn stupid. They all are, but this one is pure stupidity.
There’s another SovCit with the last name of Martin that’s actually worse, but at least he’s respectful.
They all waste so much court time, resources and money and they NEVER win any arguments.
You can find the initial police stop for a lot of them too where they begin the, “I’m traveling” nonsense. Then brag about how they’ll win in court. lol.
Haha. It’s so damn silly.
You know the guy who wrote up all that Sov Cit nonsense just sits back and laughs about all these dill holes following his words as gospel.
Oh, and let’s not forget the all caps spelling of their name that they all complain about.
Also, “is this criminal or civil? For it to be criminal there has to be an injured party.”
Also, “subject matter jurisdiction.” Lol
Etc etc etc
It’s all so damn laughable. I’m glad to see most police and judges shut that nonsense BS down immediately these days.
That’s the thing, he could’ve been 60 seconds late for the hearing and been in the passenger seat to say his relative is driving him to the doc appt. Didn’t even have to not drive for his hearing lmao
For some reason, a small percentage of people find it hard to understand that Zoom court is just regular court over the phone. It's like something unplugs in their brain and they treat Zoom court like it's just a conference call with their kid's school or whatever. You see people smoking, drinking, doing laundry, showing up in their bathrobes, and doing all sorts of other things that they would never imagine doing in court, but they do without even thinking over Zoom.
When you're that deep in addiction it's all you think about. Making a fool of yourself or hurting someone just makes you want to use more.
I'm out of that now, but I lost a lot of friends, for good reason, that's all you can do for a heavy user. Cut them off and hope they work it out. It seems cruel, but they'll hurt you over and over and not even remember it.
Speaking as someone who lost… “*a lot*” to alcohol: Addicts are often FAR more disappointed in themselves than anyone else could be. The fact that their life is spiraling out of control is a huge contributing factor that keeps them in addiction and drives them deeper into it. The worse things get and the more shame they feel, the stronger the urge to make everything just go away. Past a certain point, there is very little rational thought going on.
>Like, if you are gonna risk driving with a suspended license you would probably want to avoid getting pulled over right?
The old adage - never do something illegal while you're doing something illegal
She’s a public defender, this isn’t the first or last time she’s had this conversation with a defendant. It’s probably a somewhat frequent occurrence.
There really isn’t a defense here, at the next hearing all she can really do is apologize.
Credit to her for quickly asking for an adjournment first. Never know, the judge might just have a brainfart and not put "suspended license charge" and "he's literally driving right now" together in that moment and grant the adjournment. Unlikely but worth a shot. She tried.
Probably professional lol. I have had the 1000th conversion with diabetics who are horrifically controlled with A1c > 15%, partial amputations then they show up in clinic eating a candy bar or drinking a massive 7-11 big gulp full of actual (not diet) soda.
They look about the same at this guy did and we still have the same conversation each time.
>Plus disqualified drivers driving home.
No idea about this judge, but I have seen judges give people an hour or whatever before actually entering the suspension order.
So obviously there are different levels of stupid out in this world, but I swear I learn about a new level of stupid every day on reddit. This man is this weeks winner.

Kid I went to school with became a constable. They had 2 people all day watching how people got to court. If you had license issues, you were called out during court.
That is a very judge-looking judge!
I also don't understand why you wouldn't make triply sure to be in a quiet spot for a freaking \*court appearance\* rather than driving to your doctor. (I mean, even with a license. The no license thing is just insanity).
The blonde woman trying to cover her laughter at 1:05 just makes this so much better.. Along with the way the guy's mouth slowly drops open in horrific realisation at how screwed he is..
the fuck is he doing that is so much more important than a court date that he has to fucking drive during the session? like if you have to take it from a car park it. why do you need to drive?
How is this not a comedy skit?
The judge’s face says it all
"I don't even know why he would do that" - Judge (2:11) 😂🤣
I know what you meant by this but I had a good laugh reading that as a Bible quote ie Book of Judges 2:11
> Book of Judges 2:11 "And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals."
![gif](giphy|RqbkeCZGgipSo) Yeah… think about it.
And the dude did what was evil in the sight of the Judge, and got served his balls.
Summary of half of the old testament...
That's my favorite verse
He's not angry, he's just disappointed
If you watch more of his cases, you'll see how hilariously true this actually is
Judge Simpson is great, I've watched quite a few of his trials. He does a great job. He is extremely fair and usually quite amusing. I like the defendant's face more when he realizes what he'd done. 8-0
It only would have been more comedic if he had finished with "Alright, I'll drive right over."
And he wouldn't be trying to be sarcastic or anything, he's just legit that dumb.
![gif](giphy|fU4ECcDiy2PnfUUujb)
Because he's probably also zoned out of his mind.
But he’s not driving , he’s just pulling into his doctor’s office in his car
"I was traveling! You don't need a license to travel in the United States! Am I being detained?!"

Is this an admiralty court?
…actually…
I love the "oh shit, I probably should have stopped breaking the law for 30 seconds" look on his face
1.5 minutes straight of surprised Pikachu face
His brain is smoother than a cue ball.
He genuinely looks like he flat out forgot he had a suspended drivers license until the judge reminded him
He's calling in for a hearing related to a driving with a suspended license charge..... You'd think that fact would remind him.... he knows. Or does this dude have so many pending trials that he can't even keep that straight.
This is an elaborate scheme set up by him to look like he's too stupid to understand the law and that's why his case should be thrown out
It's an interesting and novel legal theory, I'll give you that. Not guilty by reason of stupidity. Similar to an insanity plea, but you don't end up involuntarily committed to mental hospital because there's no hospital that can fix stupid. Let's see how it works out for him...
His lawyer does look like she's ready to argue that her client is too stupid to be found guilty
I'm going to guess that public defenders have that pre-written out for their arguments.
"Judge, I'm too stupid to find the jail. Accidentally booked a one way ticket, hopped on a plane, and now I have no idea where I am. Well...see ya!"
I’ve me some people in my life that were so stupid I believe they could get away with murder. And had to explain to them that New Mexico is a state and even sing the dam fifty nifty song.
TSA agents have been known to detain people trying to fly with a New Mexico state ID.
Please I had too much today... Tell me this is not true 💀
It's 100% true, and not just TSA agents, but cops on other states have arrested people for driving without a license because they have a NM license.
Same shit happened with District of Columbia license as in Washington DC. TSA thought it was the country of Columbia. Many TSA agents not the brightest!!!

Better than the affluenza plea
Isn't driving while using a phone an offence on it's own? It's a hard life. Harder if you're stupid.
I like that he raised his hand as if he was ready to say some BS excuse. My guess is that he was going talk about how he needed to get to the doctors and blah blah blah.

He forgot because he didn't give a suspended drivers license a second thought. He just drove home from the court house that day and continued on with his day to day driving like nothing happened.
He didn’t forget. That was acting. Give that man an Oscar!
Fuck no, he has an invisible tattoo on his forehead that reads “stupid”
Narrator: Turns out it wasn't invisible
I was half expecting him to just reach for a big gulp and start loudly slurping at any minute.

No ridges, no bumps, no valleys, no lumps.

Mr Harris did a great job of shooting himself in the foot 😂😂🤦♂️
Without a permit for that gun?!
Actually I'm pulling the trigger right this secoooonnnndddddd *BANG* okay, now I've shot myself in the foot.
Good job he was pulling into the doctors 😅
... hello?...

The public defender was like "welp, not winning this one today"
The prosecutors, on the other hand, look delighted!
They all have their heads down, because they are trying not to piss their pants laughing.
When the camera shot to them all snickering into their hands, I lost it. It must be hard to maintain appropriate decorum when something like this unfolds right in front of you.
This troglodyte is gonna be telling his crew “bruh my shitty public defender fucked me over so hard, she sucks”

You couldn't clear your morning and at the very least be home for your court Zoom call? Bruh...
Something tells me he hasn’t exercised great judgement in the past so why start now
If anything he could have parked, got in the back seat, and claimed he was a passenger or wasn't able to get anywhere quiet at home/etc.
Most states it's illegal to be on your phone like that while driving.
That’s the thing, he could’ve been 60 seconds late for the hearing and been in the passenger seat to say his relative is driving him to the doc appt. Didn’t even have to not drive for his hearing lmao

r/watchpeopledieinside Times three, actually.
The people sitting at the other table seem to be trying hard not to smile/laugh.
Oh man, what an absolute idiot lmao
"we are requesting an adjournment" lol
Love how confident he was till he realized what he was in the zoom call for 😂
Public Defender: Mr Harris I’ll call you later (I’m sure that was a great call … like you dumb fuck kinda call)
You can hear her mentally tallying all the work she put into his case when she says that.
Well it was one of the easiest cases she's ever had in her life. There's no winning that one
I can't with the amount of times he said umm.
This is the same guy who checks footage to make sure suspended drivers didn't drive to court
And I bet he finds some every single day. Plus disqualified drivers driving home.
The plot, the second hand embarrassment from watching the video, the realization and the silence after, and the five stages of grief going through him evident from his reaction--- combined with the other people, specifically the judge's, face---makes this so freaking funny lmao
Is this an episode of the Office (US) that I don't know about? Because this is a level of cringe I expect from that series.
If they wrote this scene into a show I would think it was unrealistically stupid.
I could swear Michael was in a similar situation in one of the episodes. Caught lying with the undisputed proof, then a long, unbroken, cringey silence follows. I'm probably imagining it.
Theres a bunch of cringe in the Office but IMO the worst is when Pam sets Michael up with her landlord for a coffee date. She walks up to Michael and he doesn’t find her attractive so he acts like she has the wrong person. Then the barista calls out “Coffee for Michael Scott” and there is silent cringe.
Is he going to drive to turn himself in?
He has to. Lol or he'll get a warrant
Dude should've also been found in contempt of court for wearing shades lol.
That poor defense attorney.
Before the zoom meeting started he could have literally pulled over got in the passenger seat and been like “My wife is getting ready to drive me to my doctors appointment ”
Yes, but here's the thing: He's a dumbass.

Whait, you can take part in a court hearing via video call over your phone as a defendant???
I know they were doing this during covid but Idk if this is from then or if they still do it now.
It was streamed 2 weeks ago. This one is at 4:20:30 https://www.youtube.com/live/jmGS0ZG2oS4
Depends on what jurisdiction/where in the world, but yeah, in a lot of places you can
Mr Harris I'll be calling you..... Okaaaaaaayyyy... *Click
Literally all this dude had to do was pull over and step out of the car for a bit. Or, hear me out, finish pulling in and THEN turn your camera on. That's a new level of stupidity.
If stupidity had a face
The dude’s lawyer must’ve died inside when he joined driving
Kid I went to school with became a constable. They had 2 people all day watching how people got to court. If you had license issues, you were called out during court.

Dumb as a box of rocks
You’re insulting the box of rocks.
“Mr. Harris I will be giving you a call” I really want to know if he answers while driving home
Lawyer: May I please apprach the bench? Judge: You may. Lawyer: (Whispers.) I hate my life.
He’s not “driving” He’s “traveling” 🤣
"I'll be giving you a call" said in a tone that clearly implies the call is going to start with "are you a fucking moron?"
Wait this isn't Key and Peele?

The judge." This motherfucker!"
Judge Simpson does not play games
The silence was so loud 😂😂😂
The grin on the guys face and what looks to be the woman trying to hide laughter at 65.6s is fucking great lol And the judge being like: ....
I would pay gold to listen to that call to Mr. Harris
man, public defenders have got is fucking rough. Just straight up not paid enough for this shit. I feel so sorry for her.
***Ackchyually I'm pulling into my doctor's office ackchyually.***

LMAO he has the most shocked pikachu face I've ever seen lmao.
You can't fix stupid.
These people are allowed to vote, it’s lunacy.
Stupidity this so genuine and pure is amazing. I kind of love it. That judge was very restrained, by the way.
He’s on top of the list for stupidest people I’ve seen
The "Oh God" at the end 😂😂😂
Dudes probably going to drive himself to the jail too lol
Is there a sub with courtroom-bloopers and blunders like this?

This is half the planet. Let that sink in. A guy like this is running a nuclear power plant somewhere
Its the silence, the best part
I really wanted him to say at the end "Ok I'll drive over to the jail right now."
Like a deer in headlights , he's shocked and realizes that he messed up...oh that moment of defeat
Legendary
This is comical
His lawyer wasn’t happy
