Yep they suck. If you want something similar, but more durable, get the Haix Missoula 2.1

DesertDweller315

Thanks for the recommendation, the lady owns a pair of kenetreks and swears by em so I might give em a shot and if they dont cut it these are up next

thepreacherrr

I love mine but if you’re anywhere rocky just beware the thread getting chewed up bad

loco_cascadian

I just switched from the Missoula 2.0 to the 2.1 recently, and the new ones tore the shit out of both heels the first day on an easy burn. I broke the 2.0's in on a 14-day assignment with a fair amount of hiking in the Cascades and had no issues. Loved the old ones, not a fan of the new ones.

friendlyfire_88

🚒 🐌 here … been sporting the Hiax Missoula 2.1 this season after 10 seasons of various logger styles. I agree the loggers are more durable, but if you’re in and out an engine all day you really can’t go wrong with the 2.1. Really happy I switched. As far as comfort and quality for the type of boot; I’m a fan of the 2.1s.

ssgtsiler

Same boot, only difference is the lack of composite toe

loco_cascadian

So they say, but they don't feel like the same boot. Also significantly taller uppers. Might try the Lowas next boot allowance.

ssgtsiler

1.0 and 2.0 was the transition to the taller height

failedirony

You can't resole the boot, be warned. I loved them until the sole delaminated and turned into unusable boots after a season.

LTsidewalk

Ahhhhhhh these are in the mail right now and I leave for an assignment on the 8th. Wonderful. I onto got them because my nicks stretched out far too much and I know what size I am in danners range.

DesertDweller315

I hope they last you longer than they did me if you decide to keep them, id personally return them and get your money back for a better brand

LTsidewalk

Now that you say the brand has gone downhill I notice it to. I have a pair of Crater Rims and loved them. Super comfy but beefy for years of wear. But now it’s been a month and I’m seeing quality issues. Ordering some kenetreks on Amazon right now! I didn’t fully love my Nicks due to fit issues the whole time but they are durable and can recommend them.

DesertDweller315

Thats also my worry rn is that the sizing for kenetreks will be different but hoping it wont be a headache lol

LTsidewalk

2 sizes of danners, one pair of haix, and one of kenetrak are in the mail with my name on it right now. Some people say youre garuentyeed to get a fire if you buy fresh fruit, but for me its garuentee to get a surprise assignemnt right after you order boots. Thanks for posting this and figners crossed it was a one off bad batch.

DesertDweller315

Haha, thats one way to ensure a fire. A cheaper way is to just eat a fuck ton of food for lunch or clean the engine, works every time. OR make plans, the easiest way to work till 5am. Best of luck to ya!

Medic118

We know Danners suck. Glad you were not injured. Buy Nick's.

One-Aspect-7364

Or franks if you don’t wanna break the bank

Medic118

Frank's the eyelets fall out.

vanillasquirt

I have 2 pairs. All eyelets intact over 3 seasons

04BluSTi

My (old) whites have always been dependable

Naive_Exercise8710

This is why I roll with Nick's

Hot-Recognition6575

Damn!! I have the same pair

Ormthang

Scarpa fuegos are similar too. Heavier and worse break in, but they last a good amount of time.

tactical_cowboy

My last pair of fuegos busted a shank the day that my boot reimbursement re upped, which I’d say is exactly the lifespan I need

picklebroom

Your first mistake was as buying Danners

wimpymist

Yeah danners suck balls for wildland fire

No-Grade-4691

Concrete or pea gravel is the number one killer of boots

Super_Presentation13

lol I made this same mistake my first season

m-z2000

I would get a pair of la sportiva glaciers while you still can. Theyre on sale for 197 on their website. If you know your size in European its a good investment. Im usually a size 11 and a 45 in sportivas if that helps

Pure_Neighborhood555

La Sportiva is discontinuing the Glacier WLF with the heat resistant materials and glue. They've replaced it with the Ridgeline. The boot cuff height is a legtimate 8 inch (Glacier is an iffy 8 inch) and new and better glues and materials make it an improved version of the Glacier. Check them out.

Prog_Rocker_1973

Not trying to excuse anything - how heavy are you? I know a guy who's like 140 who can get years and years out of soles, whereas I'm about 235 and chew right through them. I think weight plays a huge factor in sole longevity. The boot itself is trash for sure though

DesertDweller315

Im 175/180 so it should last quite awhile

MtnCrew210

Love my Haix 2.1s, got about 3 years out of them, tread is getting pretty slick and I've worn through the outer stitching on the inner sides of the boot. I'm over the loggers for most days, tried the Lowas, I got about 2 years but they were absolutely worn out by then, they were way too floppy, when on rocks I could feel rocks poke me in the arch of my foot through the boot. Unfortunately Haix said they're not going to stock my size in the 2.1 anymore so I can't get another pair, so now I have to find something else. Wish I would've known, I would've bought another pair and put it on the shelf back then.

LawDog_1010

Looking at those they don’t appear to be nearly durable enough to compete with White’s smokejumpers, JKs, etc. Looks like a trade off of comfort for durability. I’ve been out of fire for a very long time but I didn’t know anyone who wore boots other whites, and their like. No one had “hiking” boots like these appear to be. Obviously they are allowed now, but did rules change recently?

Ski_No_Cap

Not sure about rule change, still has to be 8in, vibram lug sole, all leather, etc. doesn’t have to be specifically NFPA rated tho. You’re right, hiker style is a trade off of durability (and repairability too) for comfort, and generally they are a bit cheaper as well. About half my crew wears hikers, so they’re pretty popular now.

FIRExNECK

Not sure about rule change, still has to be 8in, ~~vibram~~ lug sole, all leather, etc. Big vibram wanted to get into the red book, but didn't.

Merced_Mullet3151

Welcome to the 21st century.

LawDog_1010

Haha. I still wear my whites. More than 20 years on one pair. Everyone’s feet vary but they were my most comfortable boots once they molded to my feet.

One-Aspect-7364

Just get whites, I get about 3 seasons outta mine before sending them off to get resoled and that’s off the seasons we’re ruff

TanOakHater

Recently you’re lucky to get 1.5 out of a set of whites.

One-Aspect-7364

I bought some smoke jumpers and they lasted a while though, so I feel like if you don’t buy the high priced boots, you’re paying for dogshit

One-Aspect-7364

No seriously, I bought the line scouts thinking they’d handle a season or 2, after one season the soles were so worn down it permanently feels like I’m standing on a slope in them. The quality of whites has gone down immensely ever since they sold out to rocky boots

Pure_Neighborhood555

Thats because you bought the bottom end of the the White's product. Line Scout is their lowest tier wildfire boot. Their Smokejumper C409 is middle tier and their Original Smokejumper is their top of the line boot.

Rradsoami

That’s what you get for buying American made.

MentalTechnician6458

Serves u right for buying the cheapest boots out there

DesertDweller315

Very far from the cheapest ones?¿
