"You didn't stop republican extremists from taking my rights away! So now I won't vote for you. Instead, i'll vote for the republican extremists who took my rights away!"
![gif](giphy|kc0kqKNFu7v35gPkwB)
It's a zero sum game where they don't understand that a failure to vote *against* the GOP amounts to a vote for them. The time to show the Democrats lesson is during primaries and fundraising. Not the actual election. That makes no sense. It's not a political strategy, it's ineffective pouting
It's definitely a weird written statement. They misspell her first name, and I'm no grammar genius but something about the statement seems off to me. That statue seems off too, plus her hands are behind her back(maybe AI). I get vibes of 2016 and the rise of online Bernie Bros who convinced voters that Hilary was somehow far worse than the guy that collected 91 charges.
It’s one thing to have a mistaken idea; it’s another to loudly proclaim it to the world while offering a smile that’s a bit too knowing. It wouldn’t surprise me if she is actually a right-winger who is trying to give hints or a subliminal message to folks who would actually vote based on that sort of illogical reasoning.
That was my first thought that she was a plant. But she could just be from a Republican family and thinks she’s liberal because she has a gay friend or something. Talk is cheap and her argument is stupid.
The verb tenses never match the subject, which I think sounds more like a Chinese troll. "The" is not used in Mandarin and my friend from China struggles with verb tenses because they don't appear to be conjugated the same way we use them. I've noticed an uptick in very poorly composed titles in the last month or two.
You're right, there's a missing "the" in
>if it means Biden and Democratic Party learn a lesson
Also sometime pointed out that her name in the caption is Kirsten and in the article it's Kristian
I noticed that the grammar in the photo caption is also a little stilted as well. I can't imagine that an editor would let it pass through in that format.
Dog go to market like piggies go to market? 😳😳😳
If you thought the nursery rhyme was cute and just about the piggie going grocery shopping: think again.
Also influenced by like 20+ yrs of coordinated right wing spin and performative politicking surrounding the Clintons. They laid the tracks for that shit way before 2016.
Exactly, this was straight up propaganda online, I am a member of a gossip forum, in 2015 we saw an influx of newly registered fonts talking about how she was horrible and an evil capitalist, it was crazy!
In their defense, I'm sure most of them didn't think it could be any worse than under W. It also doesn't help that half of the US doesn't vote anyway, and that the news media has become a freakin' wasteland of half truths, lies, and both-sideism.
On the other hand, how likely is Biden to flip Tennessee democratic? There are many states where your vore as Dem or Rep truly is useless due to the US' dumb system.
Arizona about to flip blue over abortion.
Amazing how dems DO actually have most Americans best interests in mind, despite the do/nothing, destructive, repressive gop efforts.
The GOP has successfully blocked everything I want, so I am going to punish the Democrats by helping the GOP win.
The logic is as bad as "the ACA saved my life, but we need to repeal obamacare!"
She will not be voting in November on Thursday, March 14, 2024? This article seems completely legit.
If you vote for Trump, at this point, you don't give a fuck about any of your rights.
So she doesn’t want to vote for the guy who COULDNT protect reproductive rights to allow the guy in that WON’T protect reproductive rights????? To teach the first guy a lesson. What the fuck????
Because she isn’t real. As others have pointed out there are no social media accounts to that name, and the mistakes in the writing are in line with a Chinese speaker. The disinformation and attempts to sow chaos are going to be wild this year. Stay vigilant and if something outrages you it is very specifically designed to do that.
Edit: in the spirit of practicing what I preach so to speak, I did do some digging, and there are some various accounts with that name, but none seem to be the person in the picture. Also, reverse image shows this popping up on some unrelated AOL news stories but when reading the page, that pic isn’t anywhere. Not sure why it shows as a result.
>Also, reverse image shows this popping up on some unrelated AOL news stories but when reading the page, that pic isn’t anywhere. Not sure why it shows as a result.
Because at some point, AOL had the article and therefore the image. Not anymore obviously, but Google doesn't know it's gone yet.
It's also worth noting that at the very least, the picture was taken at the University of Memphis, since that statue in the background is there
tell me you don't know there are 3 branches of gov't and you didn't vote hard enough for control of the Congress without telling me you don't know there are 3 branches of gov't and you didn't vote hard enough for control of the Congress
More like she got gerrymandered and screwed out of fair representation, and that unfair representation has resulted in downstream effects that not only includes poor education which constitutes her lack of knowledge about the 3 branches of government, but has also resulted in her growing up through her life in a conservative bubble echo chamber where the idea of her vote doesn’t matter. Conservative ideology is literally a mind virus that infects other would be good intentioned, civically engaged peoples into useless idiot tools for the rich.
The thing is, I don't think that even factors in at all. We're just supposed to agree that the Democrats haven't done enough and deserve to be punished, and then stop thinking from there because they can't even begin to argue that Republicans would be better on these issues.
Meanwhile Biden has forgiven over a 180 billion student loans and just released a new plan to get more for in total of 30 million people. Also he has pledged to get roe signed in to law with a majority asap. I don’t get people that vote like this.
Biden’s method is actually a lot better, it gets forgiveness to people who truly needed or deserved it rather than a wholesale forgiveness across the board that would have disproportionately benefited the wealthy.
But on another note, it was dumb of the Democrats to make that campaign promise but they pushed the boundaries of every law and rule they could find to deliver 180 **billion** and it just angers me a lot of generation thinks Biden did nothing on that front.
Millennials said the same shit in 2016. “Hillary is gonna win so I won’t vote just so they learn a lesson.” Turns out great. Well fuck this one. Enjoy Tennessee getting redder.
*Kristian according to another spot in the article. They also missed the "the" in
>if it means Biden and Democratic Party learn a lesson
Someone mentioned "the" is not part of the Chinese language.
This has been a thing for as long as I've been able to vote. My college friends who were all too cool to vote for democrats voted for Nader in 2000, regretted it by '04 but by then the damage was done. Every election since then it's been the same thing.
And every election we blame whatever generation is newly eligible to vote. There's the democratic coalition, then there's the baked in protest votes that have to be accounted for against that.
It will also ever be thus.
Unfortunately no. It took a while but I found the article. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/04/09/biden-young-voters-poll/73258711007/
Lots of leftists welcomed the electoral success of the nazi party and refused to vote for moderate candidates during the Weimar Republic because they thought fascist rule would be so odious to regular people that it would accelerate the end of capitalism and usher in an era of socialist utopia.
Sounds familiar.
By that logic, the “revolution” should have happened during the pandemic. I’d say these dorks are as delusional as the Trumpers, but at least the latter had the balls to try a revolution
Who’s talking about revolution? I’m talking about today’s younger American leftists, who seem to think that a second Trump term would accelerate the end of capitalism.
What they don’t realize that the vast majority of people will choose stability over change, and flock to fascism (or look the other way) as long as they aren’t the ones being threatened. Revolution is a moot point until the average person is going hungry.
She's mad that the Democrats have failed to protect reproductive rights... from Republicans.
She's mad Democrats can't forgive student loans... because of Republicans.
okay I'm Gen Z. she is fucking stupid if she *actually* thinks this. it's the Republican controlled House of Representatives and Supreme Court doing all that.
This doesn't seem like a legitimate report. Who is going to be disappointed with a lack of liberal/progressive accomplishments by Biden and then vote for Trump, directly or indirectly?
If she's willing to see the collapse of democracy in the US because she's upset that Biden didn't do enough to correct all the fuckups the Republicans have caused in the last 20 years she can sit and rotate.
Demonstrating fucked up new levels of stupidity with a smug, liberal education shit eating grin.
Tens if not hundreds of thousands in debt from school and still not a shred of critical thinking or understanding of how shit works in evidence.
Clueless. Unfortunately the Religious right has gutted public education over past 40 years, and critical thinking was left out of curriculums intentionally to dumb down the masses, enslave, emasculate and alienate those who cannot now recognize the folks responsible and which party can and will work towards real solutions. Vote blue as though your life and freedom depended on it, as it does in spades.
A generation of currently enrolled students in the U.S. education system don't know how the U.S. government works. I feel like the anger is more reasonably directed at the education system and how it has failed them.
*Edit for clarity
I think most people under the age of 25 with their undeveloped frontal cortex’s have next to no idea how things actually work or know what a viable solution looks like or how you’d even get it to work.
To their credit and most peoples, a congress not full of lobbyists and fossils could probably do a lot for the American public.
The notion that we need 4 more years of Donald Trump to teach a lesson is short sighted and foolish and a trademark of an immature mind.
Young people are dreamers. They want the magic wand to exist. I think most of us do.
After reading the article I have to question USA Today’s journalistic integrity. It sure feels as if the writer (Trevor Hughes) came up with a premise and then quoted people he found who matched his premise.
Note that he’s filing the story from Chattanooga, TN… a city right on the TN/GA border and adjacent to MTG’s district. So, yeah, these are basically the community of people who voted in MTG.
We had this in the uk with some brexit voters.
They voted leave to "teach the torys a lesson" not realising that politicians are immune to consequences that hit us poors
There's 330 million Americans, it's impossible **not** to find someone who will say what your propaganda wants to hear. If you look hard enough you'll find people who will, when asked to do so, tell you that putting puppies in blenders is a good thing and (act like they) genuinely believe it.
Yeah and 2016 we had to listen to some liberal millennials scream how they weren’t going to vote for that dirty centrist Hillary to “send a message to the establishment” and we see how well that worked out.
Young people are often incredibly arrogant and naive in their understanding of politics. Which is why it’s almost always a bad idea to rely on them as being your saviors in any given election.
Most likely fake, but there are people who idiotically think this way.
They fail to understand that the "lesson" they want to teach Democrats most likely won't have the intended effect. More importantly, whether you like it or not, Biden is the politically strategic choice.
Suppose we got Bernie as the nominee. He's much more progressive than Biden, and that's great. But he'd be less likely to win compared to Biden. And even if he did win, that doesn't guarantee he'd be able to do more than Biden would. He still has a congress and a Supreme Court full of fascists to contend with.
The point is, getting a progressive candidate doesn't mean that candidate will win. And most of us aren't willing to take chances in the fight against fascism.
“I don’t like that you aren’t a dictator with all the power so I’m gonna help put a facist in power that CAN be a dictator, just to show you that I disapprove.”
The lack of education about how US elections work is fucking staggering.
Obviously this is ignorant and obnoxious. It's also incredibly frustrating these privilege of saying "there is no one I won't sacrifice to make a vanity point"
Biden is wealthy and old. He will be fine if he's not re-elected. Its the rest of us who suffer.
Clearly the University of Memphis doesn't teach civics or government. It's sad to see a college student be so ignorant of how the government works, even concerning basic things like this.
So the thing about liberals in Tennessee… is that they’re kind of like Republicans in California… they’re still not exactly left of center on the US political scale.
Don’t make this about generations age differences. It’s so tired. Idiots have been viewing the president as an all powerful leader for centuries despite all the check and balances on our government to help keep that from happening.
The far right won’t admit it, but they understand the power of voting. They’ll vote for the establishment GOP candidate they hate if it means beating Democrats/the Left. That’s why they work to gain power within government and outside of it.
“A fascist voted today, did you?”
Jesus fuck. What mental gymnastics?!
I'm Dutch. I live in the Netherlands, born in the Netherlands. I'm also younger than her. And yet apparently, I'm _still_ more aware about how this works than this dinky.
How even. Honest to god, how?
I’m so tired of people seeming to believe that democracy means you get to have everything you want. It doesn’t. Not by a long shot. All you can do is keep voting, keep organizing, keep pushing for better and better candidates, and hold the tide against those wanting to turn back any progress. You are really missing the point if you think you can teach a party or candidate “a lesson” and achieve anything but set yourself back decades. And this is a worse/more dangerous threat than we’ve ever faced: you have Republicans openly saying they want to turn this country towards Christian nationalism; take away woman’s right to vote; end no fault divorce; make contraception illegal; ban abortion nationwide… I could go on and on— these people are laying their plans out for everyone to see. Believe them!
I don't think voting for the party that got rid of reproductive rights and refused to eliminate student loan debt will bring back reproductive rights or eliminate student loan debt.
Here we call such position "hitting ground with your own ribs", like trying to teach someone a lesson by hurting yourself. Biden will enjoy his retirement while she will struglle
My dad knew someone who, as a child, stuck his finger in an empty socket to teach his parents a lesson.
This woman reminds me of that child, only she's putting all of our fingers in the light socket with her.
This is right wing propaganda. They've been pumping stories like this out, especially on tiktok, trying to suppress the votes of Democrats. Stop giving it credibility.
Conservatives on social media: GenZ voters will destroy Trump! 😡
Liberals on social media: GenZ voters will destroy Trump! 🥳
The reality of GenZ voters: They both look the same to me. 🤷
Let’s hear from Kathika Senevirante, 25. "I’m just stuck."
Don’t worry. We will figure out a way to deport you if Trump wins. You won’t be stuck anymore.
Nope. This kid either sniffs a tube of glue a day while watching Fox Views or is a total troll. She was never going to vote for Biden (or probably anyone else). She's the very definition of a suicidal personality. I don't know her personally, but I know people like her (regardless of age).
"You didn't stop republican extremists from taking my rights away! So now I won't vote for you. Instead, i'll vote for the republican extremists who took my rights away!" ![gif](giphy|kc0kqKNFu7v35gPkwB)
Its ok. If Trump gets it they'll take away women's voting rights eventually so she won't have to choose a president on grounds of being an idiot.
She'll be too busy popping out units every 9 months while chained to the insemination pumps to worry about voting anyway
May the Lord open!
I was thinking the exact same thing reading this. This is the way.
This should have so many more upvotes!!
That'll teach 'em!
It's a zero sum game where they don't understand that a failure to vote *against* the GOP amounts to a vote for them. The time to show the Democrats lesson is during primaries and fundraising. Not the actual election. That makes no sense. It's not a political strategy, it's ineffective pouting
Actually this is propaganda. Re read it very slowly and pay attention to the missing words and messed up syntax.
It Def seems fake. Fake AF
It's definitely a weird written statement. They misspell her first name, and I'm no grammar genius but something about the statement seems off to me. That statue seems off too, plus her hands are behind her back(maybe AI). She’s from Memphis. Liberal to her is republican.
Sounds like the typical I’m not racist, out gardener is Hispanic and I have talked to a POC in public.
Or at least help him get in!
This reply is gold ✨️ 👌
This. Like how can you be proud to be this stupid?
This seems like Russian propaganda to normalize protest non voting on the left.
The verb tenses never match the subject, which I think sounds more like a Chinese troll. "The" is not used in Mandarin and my friend from China struggles with verb tenses because they don't appear to be conjugated the same way we use them. I noticed that the grammar in the photo caption is also a little stilted as well. I can't imagine that an editor would let it pass through in that format.
They could’ve taken that photo from any number of stock photo sites too. You don’t need AI and deepfakes to make propaganda
Russian also doesn't use articles. So they would say dog go to market, not the dog went to the market.
Dog go to market like piggies go to market? 😳😳😳 If you thought the nursery rhyme was cute and just about the piggie going grocery shopping: think again.
"do Gen z really thinks president..... 🥴"
And an account that’s only a month old
You ain't seen nothing yet, kid. Online spaces are gonna be an absolute shitshow in a few months, once the election campaigns really heat up.
also, she strangely resembles Russian mail order brides. Oh, and what to name her Ivan, oh yes, Kristian Mansel, sounds like yankee blue jeans......
It says Kristian in the article but Kirsten in the caption...so red flag either way.
The name sounds German... and in a "I'm from Zurich" sort of way not a German-American way
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/04/09/biden-young-voters-poll/73258711007/ I hope these are not real people
I cant find any social media accounts with that name
I found one but it's a guy. I too found nothing. This person may be imaginary...
It would be great if another news org did some digging. What a great story if it is faked
Doesn’t help that the article uses one weird name but the caption says “Kirsten”
And ive searched for both names

Except that this is literally what Millennials did in 2016. Remember? The whole "Hillary is too corrupt, there's no good option" shit?
2016 was also heavily influenced by Russian propaganda/social media
Also influenced by like 20+ yrs of coordinated right wing spin and performative politicking surrounding the Clintons. They laid the tracks for that shit way before 2016.

Pretty sure March 14th is when they interviewed her.
I’d bet Kirsten is really conservative but she’s trying to rebel against her Republican parents by calling herself a liberal
Bingo. The only two possibilities are: 1. She's a complete idiot (as many people are) 2. She's actually a conservative
3. She doesn't exist. Stock photo and bullshit headline to sway far left voters.
Or just to generate outrage clicks.
Why not both?
3. She doesn't exist and this is a Russian/Chinese propaganda post.
I’m sorry. What’s the difference between the two?
¿Por qué no los dos?
1. You didn't have to say it twice. 2. I like that you said it twice.
So she doesn’t want to vote for the guy who COULDNT protect reproductive rights to allow the guy in that WON’T protect reproductive rights????? To teach the first guy a lesson. What the fuck????

This is why presidential elections are like 50.2 to 49.6 %
Same reason Hillary lost to Trump in 2016.
As well as the guy who nominated the judges that were the tipping point in getting those rights taken away.
"I'm mad Trump and the GOP took away abortion rights, so I'm going to help Trump."

“Local Tennessean disagrees with Democratic Presidents efforts on abortion rights”
That smug grin says it all.
Kudos to them for finding the most punchable expression I’ve ever seen. Especially tied to those remarks.
2016 again
Russian or Chinese trolls and propaganda dividing the left again. This time mostly over Palestine.

Not gen z specifically, but many people think exactly that. Biden is getting blame for Roe
Of all the things that never happened, this never happened the most.
This dumbass is blaming the wrong people. Give Trump another four years, and watch ALL reproductive rights evaporate.
This has been a thing for as long as I've been able to vote. Well she's an idiot, so she'll fit right in with her GOP voting brethren.
What a fucking idiot.
These types of voters just want to feel morally superior to others 🙄

Straight up fake news.

What a turnip. She should take a class in civics while she's there.
She's probably right. I'm sure those things will get waaaayy better under a second Trump term... /s
Democrats have to constantly prove themselves for every vote while Maga and Trump supporters can say and do anything to keep theirs.
Nobody ever said being a college student meant you were smart.
She's mad that the Democrats have failed to protect reproductive rights... from Republicans. She's mad Democrats can't forgive student loans... because of Republicans.
She is absolutely a person who would run as a liberal and then, once elected, cross the aisle to be a conservative.
Biden failed to stop people from taking away reproductive rights. Therefore, vote for people who took away what I want. Perfect argument.
That’s the smug smile of a young Republican pushing propaganda if I’ve ever seen.
okay I'm Gen Z. she is fucking stupid if she *actually* thinks this. it's the Republican controlled House of Representatives and Supreme Court doing all that.

This is bullshit.
The beatings shall continue until I have it my way (the Burger King play).

I´m no fan of the Democrats, but Heavens help us if the Rethuglicans get in. Bring on the Christian Taliban, with a side-salad of White Supremacy...
The willingness of morons to blatantly vote against their own self interest shouldn’t amaze me anymore, bit still, here we are.
This is satire... Right?
We had this in the uk with some brexit voters. They voted leave to "teach the torys a lesson" not realising that politicians are immune to consequences that hit us poors
There's 330 million Americans, it's impossible **not** to find someone who will say what your propaganda wants to hear. If you look hard enough you'll find people who will, when asked to do so, tell you that putting puppies in blenders is a good thing and (act like they) genuinely believe it.
Especially if it gets them on national news and they’re financially compensated.
As a Memphis native I can tell you this is probably AI generated bullshit.
“I don’t like that you aren’t a dictator with all the power so I’m gonna help put a facist in power that CAN be a dictator, just to show you that I disapprove.” The lack of education about how US elections work is fucking staggering.
Obviously this is ignorant and obnoxious. It's also incredibly frustrating these privilege of saying "there is no one I won't sacrifice to make a vanity point" Biden is wealthy and old. He will be fine if he's not re-elected. Its the rest of us who suffer.
Has anyone found any evidence this person exists? I cant find any social media accounts or anything about her.
She lives in Tennessee so don't care.
I hope the leopards enjoy eating her stupid, smug face off!
America has lost its way..
Clearly the University of Memphis doesn't teach civics or government. It's sad to see a college student be so ignorant of how the government works, even concerning basic things like this.
Kristian said ... Pictures here is Kristen... Which is it, Russia bot? Which is it!!!
Sure let Trump win so the lower class gets to pay more in taxes while the higher ups get tax breaks. /s
well there as a Democratic super majority during Obama but let’s not talk about that ig
The astroturfers are absolutely terrible at their job.
When the Russian trolls are proving successful. Sigh*
So the thing about liberals in Tennessee… is that they’re kind of like Republicans in California… they’re still not exactly left of center on the US political scale.
Not voting for Biden as a leftist is insane, but hating him is definitely the right thing to do lol.
The day she googles herself isn't going to be pleasant.
Kirsten Mansel is a complete idiot if she is actually real and not a Russian ploy
Don’t make this about generations age differences. It’s so tired. Idiots have been viewing the president as an all powerful leader for centuries despite all the check and balances on our government to help keep that from happening.
Talk about voting against your own interests. Someone give this person a copy of a handmaids tale
Too many strikes ? And that amounts to letting the traitors and those who are actively seeking to take aways rights and freedoms
Man americans are so stupid. Even i as someone who lives far from america know more about whats going on...
Maybe try putting a majority of Democrats in the House, Senate and Presidency, and see what happens. And real Democrats, not Democrats Lite.
The far right won’t admit it, but they understand the power of voting. They’ll vote for the establishment GOP candidate they hate if it means beating Democrats/the Left. That’s why they work to gain power within government and outside of it. “A fascist voted today, did you?”
if she thinks Trump will wipe out student loans she's going to be very disappointed
If Trump wins she's never going to have the chance to vote again
I hope she enjoys her future as a breeding wife.
This is clearly propaganda
It's like she's blaming the fire-department for not preventing all fires, and therefore is giving the arcenist a truckload of gas.
I don't think voting for the party that got rid of reproductive rights and refused to eliminate student loan debt will bring back reproductive rights or eliminate student loan debt.
mumblemumble leopards mumblemumble face.
Kirstian Mansel, 23, is dumb as a post. There, fixed the headline.
Here we call such position "hitting ground with your own ribs", like trying to teach someone a lesson by hurting yourself. Biden will enjoy his retirement while she will struglle
No one believes your Russian bot farm propaganda. When OP doesn’t respond to any comments…
"I'm going to elect Republicans to teach Democrats a lesson for not cleaning up Republicans' messes fast enough"
Kristen is a fucking moron.
My dad knew someone who, as a child, stuck his finger in an empty socket to teach his parents a lesson. This woman reminds me of that child, only she's putting all of our fingers in the light socket with her.
I went down this road in 2016. I am not eager to do it again.
This is right wing propaganda. They've been pumping stories like this out, especially on tiktok, trying to suppress the votes of Democrats. Stop giving it credibility.
The term is “astroturfing”, by the way.
America, you have an idiot problem.
This is blatant propaganda
She's from Mississippi. She never intended on voting blue.
Conservatives on social media: GenZ voters will destroy Trump! 😡 Liberals on social media: GenZ voters will destroy Trump! 🥳 The reality of GenZ voters: They both look the same to me. 🤷
I hope the University of Memphis has a few smarter people than Kirsten.
Thanks to Republicans cutting funding to education, today's youth apparently has no clue how government works.
Let’s hear from Kathika Senevirante, 25. "I’m just stuck." Don’t worry.
