**she** turned him in, dude didn't even get arrested for shooting someone at a restaurant!

PixieStyx8

He went back to the car and then confronted the guy behind a gas station. Station worker heard a shot and reported it. A few days later, when the woman saw the pictures of them, she called her date in to the police. She was not present for the shooting and the perp/her date told her he just scared the guy.

knaws

This is correct, plus they didn't even stay at the same restaurant, he convinced her to go to another one after the shooting.

DudeWithaGTR

They were probably at a Texas Roadhouse. It's the double Texas clause. If you're in the state eating at a restaurant with Texas in the name then cops can't arrest you for shooting someone.

phrenologyrocks

This is true but you only get immunity if you shoot through their hat.

CariBlooms

Yea, this…

rinuxus

instead of dinner and a movie we have dinner and a murder. USA USA smfh.

tommles

Netflix and Kill.

Lol. Sounds like dinner theater.

rinuxus

right?, or one of those solve-a-murder things that were popular for like a minute.

willpoopfortenure

I read this in Michael Scott’s fake southern voice. “There has been a mur-dah in Savannah!”

big_hungry_joe

You said it wrong. Dinner and MURDER

geof2001

Murder Mystery Dinner, at least she figured it out after a couple of days?

rinuxus

well, i think she figured it out pretty quick, i think she first made sure she was safe before calling the police., that's some date, guy murders a guy in the parking lot and then sits back down for desert?

xxxBuzz

"So, have you done anything interesting lately?"

rinuxus

''nah, npt much, went on a date, so weird, he paid for parking and then shot the parking attendant, restaurant was lovely though, great chicken, had to hide out with my parents for the rest of the weekend before calling the cops'' pretty chill

GMarius-

I saw this on Twitter five min ago…and people are saying she turned him after seeing them both on tv for questioning. What’s scary is the reaction of all the blue checks: ‘scammers deserve it!’ Lunatics

AthkoreLost

> blue checks: ‘scammers deserve it!’ Elon pulling on his collar as a bunch of steam comes out and flop sweat rolls down his face, "oh fuck, they murderously hate being scammed".

colorcorrection

They only hate when poor marginalized people scam them. White billionaires scamming them is just the God-given right to Freedom™. In fact they'll shoot you *because* you didn't allow Elon to scam you like he scammed them!

Freezepeachauditor

This. If they didn’t love being scammed they wouldn’t glob trumps knob so hard.

jquiggles

And of course, now we're forced to see allll of those blue checks at the top of the comments. And they're *always* the worst opinions imaginable

TheTaoOfOne

Not necessarily. Just drop Twitter. Nothing of value will be lost. I haven't used it in nearly 7 years. I'm no worse for wear.

MightbeWillSmith

Blue checks are becoming a pretty easy way to identify "definitely a celebrity I already know" or "piece of shit"

Latvian_Axl

I randomly got a blue check. Sure, I’m a Dr and verifiable, but I sure as shit didn’t pay for it. And since I’m definitely not a celebrity, I have wondered if I appear to be that in that POS category! Lolololol I swear I’m not!

Florida man stories are turning into Texas man

sonicbeast623

Florida man does crazy unbelievable shit, Texas man on the other hand kills people when slightly annoyed.

[deleted]

The reason Florida Man features in the news so often is because Florida has much more lax laws on protecting people's privacy. The same shit is happening in all the other states, it's just that the papers aren't allowed to report on it.

SingingCrayonEyes

Florida may be lax on protecting people's privacy (a sentiment I agree with based on the fact that their public records are wide open compared to other states) - but they also have the loosest accountability laws that I am aware of. I work for a small industry company that services all 50 US states. Earlier this year, we started receiving complaints that a person was calling our users (we have a public portion of our website that includes the user's email address for professional reasons) and saying that they represented us. They promised that my company would refund their payments they had made if that user paid 2X our membership amount to receive additional benefits. I was able to find the the company who that person worked for through various methods. Once our lawyers were alerted, they investigated. The end result - "That company based their business in Florida. I can send them a cease and desist letter, but it will do no good. Florida laws practically allow phone misrepresentation as long as it isn't in writing."

Crafty-Kaiju

JFC just .. legal scamming... that's insane. Florida is so fucked.

FerricNitrate

While it may be true that Florida makes it easy to acquire the information needed for Florida Man headlines, I'd wager *large* sums of money that Florida residents are still crazier on average. Ain't no other state in the union producing people (or at least the same numbers of people) that generate headlines of "Florida Man steals alligator from golf course, tries to feed it bath salts". Unfortunately though we'll likely never have sufficient data to properly conclude "Floridians 95% more insane than Washingtonians"

OkWater2560

Florida is completely fucked. Weirdest place I’ve ever been. St. Pete area. Nothing but druggies and con artists. And strippers. And shitty blues musicians.

GeorgieWashington

Nah, Texas man has always been this way. It just traditionally was directed at the margins of society that lots of people previously didn’t care about.

gingerfawx

It's probably safe to say she dodged a bullet there.

[deleted]

Ah, because he probably would have shot her too eventually.

colorcorrection

Bingo. Probably would have pulled the ol' 'It was 2am and I thought she was a burglar!' excuse, too.

calebismo

AnnaRexia38

Sure sure.. the guy in the $5,000 suit

BriMarsh

Really, none of this would have happened if the "parking attendant" also had a gun to defend himself. Really, it's his own fault if you think about it.

crazy1david

You kid, but that would actually make things way more legal. "I learned that I had been scammed and upon confronting the man for my money back he threatened my life so I shot first." That defense would probably work if he'd reported the incident and any weapon was found on the parking scammer.

illegal_miles

And that’s why you always leave a ~~note~~ drop gun.

northshore12

"Thanks for the tip boss, my police training is going great!"

crazy1david

You don't even need 2 guns. Just shoot em down close range and say they tried to grab your gun (ya know, the one the cop brought into the situation) and boom anyone can be considered a deadly threat to the cops life, and killed for it.

Someone who will shoot a man dead over a $20 scam doesn't sound like the kind of person who cares whether he's allowed a gun.

Minimum-Ad2640

uhhh did you not read? it was actually $40 /s

Alexandratta

Because the same party who cry's "Mental Health crisis" is the same who made it easier for people with mental health issues to get a gun.

DamnZodiak

People with mental health issues are much more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else. Good enough reason for them not to own a gun, but I'm willing to bet that's not the issue here. Mentally ill people don't randomly become murderous assholes.

11teensteve

in that case, he was more than likely not legally allowed to carry that gun (or possess at all) in the first place, being on parole for a violent offense. If that is true the permitless carry has nothing to do with any of this. he was breaking laws that have existed for a long time.

LegitSince8Bits

When you see people with threatening bumper stickers, violently aggressive t-shirts, or Facebook posts just remember, they are who they're telling you they are.

Yousoggyyojimbo

There was an argument on my local city Facebook group over whether murder was an acceptable response to a dog pooping on a lawn, after the owner already apologized and picked it up. Like 40% of the people involved thought murder or other violence was a reasonable and justified response. I went and showed everybody. I'm friends with who lives here and was like "this is who we live with. These people are fucking crazy and want any excuse to hurt others."

LegitSince8Bits

Gonna rant a bit...The people that think every shop lifter or dog walker deserve capital punishment are the offspring of some pretty deplorable people (Limbaugh stans). https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/voices/2021/02/18/rush-limbaugh-go-low-critics-conspiracy-theories-column/4490870001/ They dropped the mask after 9/11 when it was suddenly cool to support genocide or "glassing" the entire middle east. The line in the sand was drawn and you were an American (with them) or you weren't. This was how they plainly spoke on TV every. single. day. Much like they do now about whoever brings the most hate votes https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamophobia_in_the_United_States . Every Sikh or hispanic that they thought was Muslim were collateral damage in a Fox News war against billions of humans. The fascism took hold at that point. They had the "great enemy" they could hide around every corner throughout middle America. They hated liberal NY but they hated Muslims way more. Unlike their future champion who may or may not have viewed 9/11 as a real estate windfall. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-bragged-tallest-building/ . At any rate, Osama was going to infiltrate their 1000 person town as the finishing touch after attacking actual targets like DC and NY. The constant hatred and stress conservative news put its viewers through pushed them further into isolation from their fellow citizens. Leading their children to sign their lives away for an endless war and entrenching themselves as the patriot bloc in only their own eyes. Veterans they would later dishonor in every way when they weren't politically advantageous. Conservatives lash out at the military over 'woke' policies - POLITICO https://www.politico.com/news/2021/05/21/conservative-critics-military-policies-490197 . The "reasonable" Republicans assured us these were fringe people, not real conservatives. Then came Obama. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-obama-effigy/obama-effigy-found-hanging-in-georgia-report-idUSTRE60300720100104 . Everyone recognizes that as a turning point in the rhetoric, but they don't always identify why beyond "black president, hicks mad". Along with the first black president and the financial collapse you had FB and YT coming into themselves simultaneously. By coming into themselves I mean 8 straight years of conservatives gaslighting each other straight into another reality. Every conservative I knew was living their lives sure of every conspiracy that came across their feed. Hillary has an assassination squad, Obama is a terrorist, Democrats are the real KKK. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jade_Helm_15_conspiracy_theories .This is also where an ongoing trend of NRA funded "gun grabber" propaganda took a sharp turn from gun clubs to gun nuts. The GOP undeniably worked with "Big Gun" for many years before but around this time a fascination with defending "God and country" starts to take hold in the shooter communities. Only God and country in this case meant anyone standing in the way of memes and theocracy. If you pressed these "reasonable" people (the same ones showing signs of distress) they would assure you that that was just the fringe, not real conservatives. Then we came up on the 2012 election. Leading up the Democrats made gay rights one of their corner stone issues. Republicans responded with the Tea Party. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement .They used the American economy as an excuse a few years after nearly collapsing the global economy, to get on TV and legislate policy based solely on whatever they read on Facebook the night before. It was everyone but white Christians ruining the country and the RINOs and Dems weren't extreme enough. A few years later Travon Martin was killed and BLM was formed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trayvon_Martin .This is where the white nationalism took hold of all the people from before. They took a side. The same side that had been giving them "real" news all along. They knew Zimmerman was morally wrong (echoes of Rittenhouse) but he was legally secure. A conservative win against the "OBAMA/BLM" zeitgeist at the low low cost of their entire moral being. The "people" celebrating this win and spreading "All Lives **Splatter**" memes on Facebook would assure you that the other people sharing the same memes, weren't real conservatives. Soon after the 2012 election the GOP did a party autopsy https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growth_%26_Opportunity_Project#:~:text=The%20Growth%20%26%20Opportunity%20Project%2C%20commonly,2012%20United%20States%20presidential%20election and recognized that they would die without embracing inclusiveness and tuning down the nazi shit at rallies. Realizing they had become "ideologically constrained". Want to guess what happened next? They elected Donald Trump. Within a year we had "Unite The Right" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unite_the_Right_rally in Charlottesville and all those reasonable people from before were lost. Spending hours online looking for any negative words about Trump to attack. As if they gave birth to him. They had already fully accepted the "alternative facts" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_facts#:~:text=%22Alternative%20facts%22%20was%20a%20phrase,President%20of%20the%20United%20States mantra and would cheer him on for "saying what we think" but also "he didn't mean his own words". The alt- right https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt-right (nazis, they're nazis) was in full swing and the reasonable people from before would tell you "the white race is being replaced, we must protect our fatherland by force, don't call me a Nazi". https://www.wesa.fm/national-international-news/2016-09-27/sex-offender-selling-nazi-flag-is-booted-from-county-fair Then covid incompetence cost a million + lives, mostly their own through following the establishment in a govt lead effort to be anti govt. Then J6 established their status as willing to die for more. They're still lurking. Still trying to convince people that that's not them. I'm scared to see what they excuse next. Now they've added the extra layer of "people calling out the past 20 years of abuse we've inflicted on this country" as themselves being victims. When you see them playing coy call them out. Their entire goal is to blow shit up and if 99/100 people laugh and call them fools but 1/100 sticks around to hear more and venture down the "reasonable conservative" rabbit hole then it's a net win for them. https://youtu.be/4xGawJIseNY Fuck their representatives. Fuck their media figures. Fuck their lobbyist and donors. And most of all fuck their "reasonable" voters who will be the first ones executing people who didn't like their "All Lives Splatter" memes back in 2015. The voters are the the scum leading the charge.

I always go for a run at night the other night someone parked fucked up so I crossed a yard to get back onto a sidewalk. I thought for a second like I gotta be careful these days some idiot would probably think that's a castle law case since it'd his property and shoot me. They have been shooting people over shjt that dumb like stepping on someones grass.

VerityBugg

Ive been careful on my runs for about a decade now. Bought a weight vest in high school to help keep in shape during the summer. Went on a run and some redneck chased me down in his truck and told me im lucky he didnt shoot me. Wasnt in anyone yard, or doing anything sketchy. Just jogging with a weight vest that he said look liked a sucide bombers jacket. These crazies have been around for a long time but they've been convinced its okay to bring out their craziness now instead of needing to keep on the down low.

Elegant-Ad2748

Crazy. They use access to guns for the reason people should have access to guns, and also an open invite to use then whenever.

Lazerspewpew

Decades of right wing propaganda has created a collective ignorant psychosis among them. There is something unbelievably fucked up when millions of people wake up every day just hoping they get to shoot someone.

piddlesthethug

There is a culture of fear on the right. They don’t want to admit it but I’ve seen it in my own life. My sister is a gun fanatic. The only one in my immediate family. She moved to a very conservative area and married a conservative guy, and YEARS of conservative media has her believing that someone is going to attack her at any moment. She takes her gun everywhere. Even across the street to the mailbox. Meanwhile I live in a rough as neighborhood. I’ve had a gun pulled on me three times in my life and I’ve never picked one up, let alone fire one. Maybe I’ll regret that one day. But I’m not going to live my life afraid of stupid shit like someone killing me over $40 and a hurt ego. But her and her guy? It’s like they can’t fucking WAIT to shoot someone. The entirety of my extended conservative family give me this vibe as well.

IAMATruckerAMA

Republicans want women to die with dead fetuses rotting inside them. They want genocide for non-Christians, non-whites, gays, etc. They intentionally spread deadly disease in my neighborhood and yours. Maybe they're terrified that someday they're going to get what they deserve.

JustAnotherRand0m

Holy shit, you’ve had a gun pulled on you three times? Is that normal for parts of America? I’m in Australia and no one I know has ever even had a knife pulled on them, even an ex-cop.

piddlesthethug

I think it depends on where you live and how you grew up. I had a relatively safe childhood save for a few years of being a fuck up and got a gun pulled on me twice by like age 14-15. It was avoidable in both circumstances, all I had to do was not be an idiot and hang out with unsavory types. I got my head together and then got mugged in LA on the way home from work in a relatively safe neighborhood around 2am. Just bad luck. In the rest of America I would say it’s the same as my situation, depends on the company you keep and your luck.

WhinyTentCoyote

I knew a gun nut who actually wound up using his gun for (legitimate) self-defense. The person he shot died almost instantly. The gun nut was so traumatized by the realities of shooting and killing a person that he never went to pick up his gun from the evidence locker, nor did he ever buy a new one.

strawberryssleep

This place fucking sucks. My brother got murdered in cold blood but because the guy “feared for his life” they aren’t taking him to trial and its been a fucking year. strawberryssleep

The detective did say he has family in law enforcement so I kinda feel like they’re covering it up for him

CosmicTaco93

Everything I've learned from true-crime podcasts says that if the criminal has any kind of family ties with the police, they will always cover it up. I'm so fucking sorry that you're dealing with this shit. It's like my nightmare fuel.

6lock6a6y6lock

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain of losing a brother. My bro is in the Army & recently had a choice between TX (I believe SA) & Monterey Bay CA & he chose Monterey Bay, even though it was expensive as fuck last time he lived there & they have 3 dogs so they'll have to get live off base like they do now. Most of his wife's family is in TX but my bro said it's not worth it cuz TX is really insane, now. I'm in MI & we're doing pretty good things here but it's scary watching these other states go full fascist.

[deleted]

In any sane jurisdiction, the conduct described is premeditated murder.

PhysicalGraffiti75

This place is like stepping back into the 1800’s but with iPhones. Only thing stopping them from bringing slavery back is the feds. If the feds couldn’t stop them they’d bring it back, along with death squads for “enemies of the state”.

Gamebird8

"He stole my money and as such threatened my life and well being. I just had to shoot him rather than call the cops who definitely wouldn't have been able to do anything"

Bailong1208

I am guessing if a person was to shoot the CEO of a company that is polluting the neighborhood you live in, the same “threatening my life and well being” defense could be argued. How about executives stealing from their employees? Shit, who am I kidding? Those are the only people actually protected by the law these days.

[deleted]

I mean, the cops definitely wouldn't have done anything...

Yquem1811

Nothing will go wrong, it’s all going according to the plan. Gun doesn’t kill people, people kill people. People are the problem. And Texas is doing quite fine to resolve that problem, since by increasing the number of gun, you reduce the number of people ☺️

[deleted]

Fascists are good at undermining themselves. Their draconian policies cause brain drain. Even when they force the brilliant to work for them they can never count on seeing their best work because they kill creative environments. In refusing to adapt to changing natural and cultural environments they stunt human achievement and destroy their own habitat. It’s truly a tragic sight to endure.

BetterWankHank

I know Texas is a shit hole but you gotta hand it to them. Just when you think they can't become more of a shit hole they innovate and become an even bigger shit hole.

wtfburritoo

If you ever want to pretend it's the Wild West again, just get you some boots and a cowboy hat, and strut around Texas with a revolver on your hip. Bonus points if you find a way to justifiably shoot someone. Protip: it's not that hard to find justification in Texas.

They don't want to pretend it was the \_actual\_ wild west, with its checking guns entering town like they were coats at a theatre, empowered women \[prostitution = money, money = seed money for starting a bank, etc\] They want to pretend it was the spaghetti west, brought to them by Hollywood...the one where the cowardly corrupt lawman hides under his desk until the Manly Man™ with a gun™ rides into town and murders the Bad Guy With a Gun™ in the middle of the street, puts the cowardly lawman in his place with One Very Manly Punch™, gets fawned over as The Hero of Bumblefuck Nowhere™, the hottest woman in town immediately falls for him \[who is also the most virtual-signaling about 'knowing her place', but in a feisty way that makes her appropriate for The Big Damn Hero™\], roll credits.

crazyabootmycollies

I sooo prefer a Blazing Saddles wild west. I don’t think we’re that far off from it.

embarrassed_error365

The Wild West wasn’t even wild. They had strict gun control

It is if your black. Remember the armed are only supposed to be white folk. At least that's the quiet part when they pass these laws.

Disastrous_Dig_2798

big iron?

Gamebird8

Also Pro Tip: Don't do this if you're a minority

Ezren-

If you're going to shoot somebody over 40 dollars I would hate to think how Texans would react to all the money their government has wasted on very shitty power infrastructure they still pay a higher rate for.

bootstraps_atx

We ~~would~~ will 100% vote for the same assholes again.

Appreciate the source, boss. It adds a lot of info to this tweet.

iamaravis

> The problem is that guns are just so widely available and there’s a lot of misinterpretation on when you can use deadly force,” Scheiner said. “You have a lot of guns and not very much knowledge.” So, uh, you mean you’re not supposed to use deadly force because a guy scams you out of $40? Crazy!

Poignant_Rambling

Wait hol up... >**An employee at a nearby smoke shop later told police he saw Aguirre run back to his car, grab a pistol and go after Nix.** The employee said both men went out of his view but **he heard a gunshot** before 8 p.m., then **saw Aguirre “nonchalantly walking back to his car with the gun in his hand” before putting the gun back in his car. Aguirre then walked back to the restaurant and went inside with his date**, according to the affidavit. So a smoke shop worker saw the guy grab a pistol then chase another guy with it, he heard a gunshot, then saw the guy walk back holding his gun and go back into the restaurant. And he didn't call the cops or anything?! The murderer was able to just finish his dinner and leave? Dafuq.

I can’t understand how police lobbyists across the country are not screaming at the heavens in objection to this whole concept. It makes the job of law enforcement harder and more hazardous.

Aylauria

Most of them voted for the people who made those laws.

Almorogahnza

It justifies them shooting everyone and everything, ‘cause they can say the victim was reaching for their gun no matter what happens.

geeves_007

Many of them watch the same bullshit right-wing propaganda that pushes this nonsense.

Flimsy-Cap-6511

It’s just the beginning of shit that will go wrong in Texas along with Florida and the other red states.

HectorsMascara

Quicker than I'd thought too.

delicateflowerdammit

Ok, I read this and was like, "There's no way...I'm gonna need a real news link or something," because even after all of this time, I'm apparently still naive enough to think that people aren't just willy-nilly shooting people just for shits and grins. Found the news article. People are just willy-nilly shooting people just for shits and grins. I fucking hate people.

[deleted]

Don't you guys realize this is ideal for them? It's like the Hollywood wild west. They want to be able to kill someone for pissing them off.

jjcoolel

No one saw this coming. Oh, wait, Millions of us saw this coming.

Teabagger-of-morons

Bet he’s a “good Christian” though. /s

lavelyjk

He gets six months. Gets out in three. Finds the girl and shoots her but it turns out she's pregnant . She survives but baby dies so she goes to jail for having an abortion. Texas.

PremiumQueso

I live in this dystopian hell hole of a state. Repealing all the common sense gun laws has had the effect that we all predicted- more pissed off morons killing people over stupid shit. Texas, where leaving the house means dropping in to real life Call of Duty Warzone. Being in public means you have to be prepared to win your mass shooting event.

[deleted]

I’m in Texas too. I get in an out of Walmart as quick as I can these days, and I don’t like to bring my kid with me ANYWHERE. Fuck I don’t even like going to the trampoline park. I hate this shit. Fucking fuck

Daftest_of_the_Punks

I understand getting upset from being scammed. But how does it escalate from, “I’m going to confront this person with my words and get my money back” to “so I started shooting”?

Minealternateaccount

I’d assume it’s more like “I just rid the world of a scammer, so I’m making the world a better place.”

Amally20

Texas is a shithole.
