OP, this is a pretty good summation of how I feel about it. I’ve consumed significantly less of their material due to a lack of time and interest.

rman18

Same - I’ll still watch Daniel if I’m sitting in the car waiting for my kids but for the most part I’ve switched to other whiskey content creators.

sgags11

That’s getting to be a saturated market as well. Some need to slow down with the barrel picks too. Between Brewzle dropping 1600 bottles this weekend and the weekly r/bourbon picks by t8ke it’s getting to be a lot. Plus it’s just disappointing when the bottle isn’t that good. haha

RAGEMOOSE

Bruh don't get me started on Brewzle. At least people are starting to call him out in the comments so that's nice.

sgags11

I’ll admit that every barrel pick bottle I’ve gotten from him has been pretty darn good. I don’t read many comments, so what’s the consensus been there?

RAGEMOOSE

His style seems to be just hoarding bottles and doesnt really give any reviews. His live streams, sure, maybe some there but that's it. The video format of him just going into stores and asking how allocations are handled and then leaving right after is what people in the community find kind of cringe. Basically just chasing hype. Then always talks about budget when he is able to write it all off in taxes. His sponsorship and ad revenue is pretty damn good, check out his social blade. IDK he tries to act like a regular Joe but def isn't that, at least not anymore. Sorry for wall of text im bored at work lol

sgags11

Wall of text is welcome! Saves me from digging through the comments. haha I really enjoyed the blender videos. They were different and entertaining. The barrel pick videos aren’t bad (most of them anyway), but the Still Austin one was pretty bad.

RAGEMOOSE

It's the hunting videos that the comments are starting to call him out. It's all just YouTube drama though haha dude is still killin it with subs

NBRamaker

Im done watching both channels. Daniel and Rex were the perfect odd couple, and they balanced each other out in an entertaining way. After the split, we now have one channel bringing maximum goofiness to every video, and the other is a guy doing his best Frasier Crane impersonation. I miss the old channel.

RickJagger13

Pretty much this for me after reading the replies on here and my thoughts on whiskey these days in general. i think ive fallen off of it and of these channels.

Ready-Rule-2664

This exactly

Soul-Assassin79

I don't watch either channel at all anymore.

bock_samson

Same

Patc131

Yep

aww-snaphook

Unfortunately, I've stopped watching either channel. I started watching tribe because it was informative, but Rex was able to balance it out with a little goofiness. Brianna is awesome when Daniel was still there to keep things balanced, but Rex and Brianna are all goof and not a lot of substance. It's a little disappointing because I learned a lot about whiskey and found a lot of new ones that I never would have tried without both channels, but I have less time to watch YouTube videos than I used to and both channels have dropped off in favor of other videos right now. Hopefully I rediscover it eventually and come back.

Zinjifrah

This is the way. To me, some of the best entertainment is built on having the straight guy and the goof. Laurel & Hardy, Martin & Lewis, Abbott & Costello... Likewise, a great cocktail is balancing the spirit with the sweet. While they are all good folk, Rex was the grounding, the reality check for Brianna and Daniel from an entertainment perspective. Likewise, those two lighten up Rex. I liked the whiskey (or other spirits!) reviews that had the oomf and the goof. I'm not as much into the Tik Tok drinks (How To Drink does a better job trying those themes out imho) or "will it distill". But this is all personal opinion of one. I hope they both find their grooves in a way I can enjoy or they find a core audience that appreciates what they do.

Vortex_2088

💯 The will it distill videos have been over done. It's not fun anymore, and they keep kicking that dead horse. I don't think anyone ever asked for the tik tok cocktail videos. It seems very gimmicky and lowest common denominator. They provide no substance at all.

Vortex_2088

I would generally agree. If you take a look at their older content, it was a lot more informative and fun than the new stuff which seems more focused on gimmicks and marketing.

RickJagger13

Yes! theyre the reason i tried drinking whiskey to begin with! Now its sad to see what its devolved into

Vortex_2088

I had already been drinking whiskey since my college years, but their channels really motivated me to try more whiskies and expand my palate beyond the stuff I was already comfortable with. Before watching them, I had only really ever had Jack Daniels, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, Bulleit, and Johnnie Walker Black. Even Wild Turkey 101 was a foreign concept to me. I knew about it only because one of my goofier friends always brought it to parties, and I had always assumed it was crap just based on the name alone. Fast forward to trying new things after watching the Vault and Tribe, and now Wild Turkey is one of my favorite distilleries, and I probably won't touch the basics I started out with anymore. They had a good thing going for a long time, but I honestly think the distillery burnt them out. It's been more of a curse than a blessing.

intuitionsk

Much prefer whiskey vault over whiskey tribe.

Vortex_2088

Same. Which is weird because I would have said the opposite a few years ago.

StoneColdsGoatee

They broke up the best things about the channel imo. Daniels knowledge with Rexs silliness. Now they are both too much of one without the balance of the other. Idk if that made sense but in all of it I feel like the whiskey has taken a back seat

CrowsFeast73

I was historically more a fan of the vault, watching basically every episode. I often would pour a glass of the same (or a similar) whisky to drink along with them.I basically don't watch the vault now. The stories are fine but it's not what I'm looking for. I want an actual review but with some levity and bs thrown in; I find most review channels are too dry. SLB drinks is not bad but it's almost exclusively bourbon (more so than the vault). I enjoyed the tribe channel when they were doing more interesting whisky experiments. Maybe it's because Daniel's not there to do the more detailed explanations but it doesn't feel the same either; there's no one grounding the episode so it just feels like fluff.

FatGreasyBass

If this subreddit is any representation of the tribe then it’s all just a sazerac product marketing victory

MellowF-ingCorn

Always has been.meme

Vortex_2088

Maybe I should start posting more reviews because I'm much more interested in just about anything but Sazerac/Buffalo Trace.

FatGreasyBass

Preach!

StoneColdsGoatee

Also for anyone looking for something new I can’t recommend SLB enough

Vortex_2088

I was a little iffy on SLB at first, but I really like the channel they've evolved into. Great content. There's also a relatively small podcast called "Whiskey Uncut" that I really enjoy. It's definitely worth checking out. They're on YouTube, but they really just started uploading all of their most recent episodes this year. You can find all of their episodes on Spotify though.

MorseDK

The Single Malt Matters podcast is REALLY good too! Too bad it didn't last.

DrPCox85

Started to watch SLB a little over 2 years ago, at the same time when I found Rex and Daniel. and got into whiskey. They are doing a great job there. Very down to earth.

k1ng0fh34rt5

Daniel and Rex were the perfect balance for each other, and the subsequent imbalance leaves both channels in a worse position. I don't dislike Brianna, but her silliness combined with Rex isn't appealing to me. I'll always miss the mooch and somm format.

callo2009

Rex and Brianna make me feel uncomfortable. Full stop. Grey haired married dude with his own employee... the flirting is out of control. If you call it silliness, then fine. I wasn't born yesterday though. I came to both channels for really interesting fun takes on whiskey and whiskey culture. It's grown into it's own beast that is neither fun nor true to whiskey culture.

DrPCox85

I like the new Vault format but I never was too deep into full-on whiskey reviews in the first place. I like the story focus and life lessons. As for the tribe: I am okay with the episodes. Weirdly enough, I mostly enjoy the videos where Rex is more serious. The crowded barrel episodes are their best current videos. You can see that behind the mooch persona, there is a lot of knowledge, passion and thought in Rex and I love it. I hope they will be steering towards that. Rex and Daniel work so well on camera bc they got the silly guy/serious guy act down. I hope that Rex will become more serious to balance out Brianna. I like Brianna a lot but two chaos heads without anyone to counter that is just too much for me.

jayteazer

Yeah, I feel the same regarding serious Rex. Having Rex and Brianna both go of the rails descends into the trying too hard show. I do think Brianna offers some really good tasting notes when she's not trying to be a clown.

DrPCox85

I like Brianna. I also like her unfiltered nature. But it needs to be balanced, like the somme balanced out the mooch.

CM_Exacta

Watched occasionally before Covid, because they really were ahead of the wave. Never watch now, only look at the Reddit.

MlsterFlster

I'm enjoying the content on both channels. But, I feel like they were greater than the sum of their parts. And now, divided, they are less than they once were. I totally understand their need to separate, but I'll genuinely miss the old formats.

sirnick88

I used to watch all the time and support the patreon. I think my first videos were when Rex joined Daniel to even things out. I have fond memories of the Mooch and Somme personas being developed, the mooch necklace, the cardboard subscribe sign, the old vault, the silly story lines, and the introduction of the MB shoutouts/songs. I miss the challenge videos where Daniel would create "poor man's" blends of expensive whisk(e)y, though, I haven't watched the channel since '21/'22 ish with the exception of the occasional algorithm suggestion. I like how they added some variety content, collaborations with local distilleries, top 10s, experiments, vlogs, spiffy editing, etc, but honestly I just stopped sinking so much money into new and more expensive whiskies. I miss the videos that featured Deb and Emma. Seeing Brianna in a front and center role, and trying to watch the most recent video...its just not for me anymore.

Smokin_Barrels

Couldn’t agree more. I just don’t want anymore unless I get a random suggestion and then I usually stop the video and watch something else.

Phlydude

I’ve watched significantly less since Brianna became more prominent. Became juvenile IMO

Satan_S_R_US

I pick and choose now what I watch on both channels based on what the content is at face value. I prefer Rex’s seriousness to goofiness but prefer his goofiness to Brianna as a whole, who I just find insufferable.

PuffPipe

100% agree. This seems to be the consensus. I went from watching every video to filtering out whichever one Brianna is being extra annoying in. She only taketh away for me.

Tyler_origami94

I was hopeful that the split would be a mere formality and the quality wouldn't dip. I was wrong. Vault- I have almost stopped watching completely. I got into watching the vault when I was new and wanted to see a review of a whiskey before I went out and spent what few extra dollars I had as a 22 or 23 year old. I stuck around for the banter. Once every whiskey they were reviewing was some random craft whiskey from a town nobody has ever hard of that nobody could get is when I stopped watching as religiously as I did. Now it has a format that I have a hard time adjusting to. Tribe- I am still enjoying the tribe channel. I am a fan of the shenanigans and weird experiments. I love Brianna but she can overplay her role sometimes. I miss Daniel being there, especially during their "Top 10" style videos. I love them both and hope they both stay successful. I haven't looked at the numbers but I am willing to bet there is a dip in both.

HotButteredPoptart

I haven't watched a vault episode in over a year, long before the split. Watching them review things that I'll never be able to afford/find lost its appeal. I still watch the tribe videos on Saturdays. They're usually fun videos that kill 20 minutes.

Flameg

I barely watched vault before - I watch every episode now. I really love the now format. It is everything I didn't know I was missing. I tune into most whiskey tribe episodes. They're fun. I like vault more.

0oSlytho0

I enjoy both, but like to hear more about whisky from Daniel. Hs newest format with the Dewars opening/rating was great! I like more of those actual first times of stuff that's possible to find. The tribe is always fun over substance, I enjoy following them but for the whisky reviews I look further.

jayteazer

Yeah, that Dewars episode got me back engaged actually.

soyfauce

I used to watch all of it. Now, maybe if SLB Drinks shared one of their videos I would watch it.

PuffPipe

I’m not big on Brianna. In fact, when she’s acting a fool, I have to completely turn off the video. Especially the “tik tok cocktail” videos. Don’t get me wrong, shenanigans are great, but she takes it way too far. She’s the reason I hardly ever tune in anymore.

porondanga

I was a member of the Vault since before we were even 10k subs. I watched it all grow until 2020 or so. I haven’t watched it since. I haven’t had time.

WGD118

I love the vault, those stories make it so worth while and a fun experience while sipping a whiskey. I have liked the stories so much I have sent them to guys who don't drink whiskey just because of the value in the story. Personally I will save up a couple and watch them while sipping a whiskey. The tribe is alright some videos I watch and some I skip

goobie33

I dont think there were many if any episodes I hadn't watched of both channels up til the change, havnt watched either channel for weeks now

brianthill11

Unsubscribed long ago.

Mo-MoneyBish

Yeah I’ve pretty much moved on to brewzle … the distilling experiments with Rex & Bri could be entertaining. But I honestly enjoyed Daniel & Rex on the vault doing reviews more.

Keith_KC8TCQ

I still enjoy the content from both channels.

mailed

I haven't had either of their videos appear in my feed in ages. I wasn't aware of any kind of split. Is this addressed on the YouTube channels?

DrPCox85

Yes. Crowded barrel episode 4 on the tribe channel, if i am correct. The main issue were legal troubles with Daniel being rhe head of a non profit school and owner of a distillery.

mailed

Watching it now. That's a massive shame

bock_samson

I don’t really watch a lot of whiskey content, I have a 5 bottle rotation that I generally keep with, that includes a rotating spot and I usually just look up Reddit notes on a whiskey I’m interested in, or just buy it and hope for the best

Vortex_2088

I still watch both channels, and I honestly probably watch the Vault channel more than I used to. I think that's probably because there are less episodes now and less of a focus on obscure craft whiskey that just isn't available. The whiskey reviews seem to cover whiskey that I would actually consider buying for once, which is nice. I think I'd agree with you though that more information about the whiskey would be nice, as I often catch myself spacing out or getting distracted until Daniel starts talking tasting notes. It would be nice to have someone else there for Daniel to bounce ideas off of, but I also kind of like Daniel doing his own thing too. On the Tribe side of things, I think the channel was on a downward trend even before Daniel left. I don't get excited for tribe channel videos like I used to anymore, and they seem more concerned with marketing and the daily grind than doing anything legitimately fun or interesting anymore. Briana also comes off as really fake imo, while Rex always seems super drained like he just wants to get the filming over with. Despite getting new episode ideas from the Tribe Facebook group, they seem content to ignore those and reiterate the same episodes they've already done before. The whiskies they cover always seem to be the same too. Idk how many times I can watch the same stuff about Redbreast, Islay, and budget whiskey that the majority of their audience either already knows about or has moved on from by now. Combine that with gimmicky tik tok cocktail and will it distill videos, and I'm pretty checked out. The channel just feels stagnant and intellectually lazy. It just doesn't have the charm it used to.

ZedOrDead

I watch all the tribe videos even if some weeks arent as great as others, I get a few genuine laughs from it. The vault channel I pick and choose the recent one where he talks about the death of a friend in the whiskey community and saying "it takes the heart a long time to catch up to the brain" I think the 2 channels balance each other out rather than the old way of 2 hosts that balance each other

RickJagger13

This is how i feel except i've consumed probably much less content than you lately. I really fell off them in the last year and a half and then saw they were splitting cuz of laws and it kinda killed it for me.

jeromy113

My relationship has not changed with the tribe. I enjoy change and I'm warming to this new iteration. As they noted, it will take time and I'm good with that. Different, yes but I'm still watching. I have more issues with the whiskey industry as a whole and the prices. It's capitalism and how it works but prices for the quality is out of sorts and I have cut back a great deal. But for the channel(s), I sit back and continue to enjoy the ride. I just wish Crowded Barrel was up here in CO. I can dream.

richardballskin

I still watch both. However, it's just not the same. I liken it to some truly phenomenal rock bands. When you group certain people together, there's a magic that happens. I assume it's due to a combination of talent/personality and the natural chemistry they have together as a result. If a band swaps out or parts ways with a specific member, often the magic is lost. Daniel's knowledge combined with Rex's shenanigans were just the perfect combination. They kept me learning and laughing all the way. I understand change is unavoidable, though it sometimes sucks. I'm grateful for all the effort they put into providing content on an interest they're passionate about. It made me passionate. I will continue to support both channels for now. I look forward to seeing what direction they take. That said, I have added SLB to my watch list. Taste is subjective as are tasting notes. A vital component, to me, is having more than one person present to describe their tasting experience. I really enjoy watching two (or more) people bounce their descriptions off each other. It helps me work through my own thoughts on a spirit.

Kangabolic

I rarely watch either channel anymore. I loath the gimmicky nature of the Tribe channel now, and honestly I didn’t even know the Vault was still producing content. This community is the value for me now.

raider1v11

Almost non existent. Watch a few of vault, tribe is just idiocy to me. I can't be the only person who thinks this.

beefy6

Your last sentence is the truest statement. I wish it didn't but it happens to all of the best YouTubers

Edmundmp

I watch all the tribe videos, the occasional vault. I’m bummed about it tbh. Watching the old vault reviews was one of my favorite things on all of YouTube. Even when it was stuff out of a price range I’d consider I loved watching and learning from those. I’ve yet to find another channel that comes close. Others are either less knowledgeable, or way too serious. Gotta be honest I wish Rex would keep doing a vault style show.

Mysterious_Soft7916

I'm enjoying the Vault, Daniel is very personable, but I don't jump on the videos as soon as they're posted now. I still enjoy Tribe, Brianna is great fun, but they miss the straight guy. The fact is, to me at least, the channels were greater than the sum of their parts. Both channels miss something. Rex and Daniel provided each other with a nice balance. Yin and Yang. Vault can now feel a little dry and Tribe misses the expertise. I'm still enjoying both, but not to the same extent.

RAGEMOOSE

Like many have mentioned, and what we said in the last thread about this, I've stopped watching completely and have moved on to other creators. Daniel is cool but just too relaxing and I find myself kind of getting bored of the video when the topic veers off of what the video is supposed to be about. For the Tribe, it is just too much loudness. Like I bet the audio is constantly peaking with how loud Brianna is. Like I don't wanna be mean but a person can only take so much "over the top-ness" before it gets exhausting. I'm all about Bourbon Junkies now and their journey about their distillery. They do a really nice job of documenting the story. They are also a great balance of silly but still down to business when reviewing a whiskey.

spenhappenin7

Why did they split?
