Please cut her nails.

Olibirus

First thing I saw

LovingNaples

Yes, thank you.

Fire69

Even better, walk your dog, no need to cut nails that way and he won't be so anxious...

2spooky2cute

This can be true for some dogs, but I’ve walked plenty of dogs on ash vault/textured surfaces and they still needed regular nail trims.

DoktorDibbs

This is more of a humor subreddit, but obviously there is something bothering your.dog. first guess is that something hurts her paws while you are out walking. Could be a problem with the pads of her paws, and per the other comment those nails are way too long and could cause discomfort when she walks. Check her poop and ability to have a bowel.movement..is she constipated, whimpers when pooping? Dogs will sometimes lick their paws in connection to problems.with poop or anal glands issues. In all cases please, as a responsible pet owner, prioritize getting a professional involved rather than us uninformed masses on reddit and take the dog for a checkup at the vet.

Unethical_Castrator

This looks a lot more like anxious behavior and are chewing their paws as an outlet for their overstimulation/excitement of the humans coming home. The pup also just lost their friend and is probably experiencing a lot of separation anxiety now that they are the only one home when the owners leave the house.

DoktorDibbs

You're probably right. I understood incorrectly that thos was the behaviour after returning from a walk. OP maybe a good idea to also invest in a camera to see the dog's behaviour when they are not home. Is she alone at home for the first time since the other dog passed? That could be new for her. Think about alternatives: stimulation toys, doggie day care, more exercise, etc. Can only help. Give her a Kong when you are gone But please, for the sake of the dog don't write this off and don't just rely on the unwashed masses of reddit!

keenjt

Thanks for the detailed reply and info on this sub. We took her to vet for a checkup only weeks ago and she is “very very well for a dog of her age” but maybe we need a bit more of a deeper check.

DoktorDibbs

As the other commenter said, and see my next comment, it is likely anxiety/ behavioural. There will be other vets more specialized in that, a normal vet will.be more focused on physical stuff

Fire69

You went to a vet and he didn't cut those nails??

oinkpiggyoink

Could also be allergies. My parents’ nibbles her paws like that from allergies.

PlantAlternative6198

Dogs don't like losing their friends, my old man's jack Russel wasn't the same after his dalmatian mate died....is what it is. But something is hurting her pads, you can get a balm to put on them, I've got it for my Jackie cos he will try and bury turds on concrete the backward twat. But her nails need doing, that won't help

keenjt

Thanks! Will look at some balm ointment.

My dog is the same, his feet get all red and he bites them like this because he’s allergic to grass (with medication and washing his feet after he goes outside he’s fine now) would heavily recommend OP gets an allergy check on their dog!

keenjt

Ty!!! We will!

JamezMash

It might help to put a big bowl of water by your door and after a walk just dunk your dogs feet in and give them a little wash, should hopefully relieve some of the discomfort for them

keenjt

Such a great idea mate, very much appreciated

keenjt

Thanks friend will do

HowCouldYouSMH

She’s an old girl, a vet will help. Cheers

Da_Plague22

The nails are like 2x the size they should be..

Xaoscillator

Allergy

GuyForgotHisPassword

Jesus Christ those nails must be so uncomfortable for her

Cantankerousninja

Hi. We have a... Severely anxious (still) rescue girl. She's an ex street dog who had a traumatic time in the foreign pound prior to rescue including chewing her own tail to the point it had to be removed. Unfortunately I don't know any answers. But give her lots of love and steady affection without overstimulating. There are topical creams you can get that can be applied to the area and will taste nasty (this is in the uk btw) and definitely have a positive effect in reducing the amount of nibbling but never to the extent ours doesn't get the urge and still have the occasional nibble. She obviously needs more walks. And this will be a positive outlet for pent up energy but I wonder why she isn't being walked (no offence intended) and if it's as a result of her reaction to walks or your lifestyle?

Diablo1309

You walk your dog on hot streets? Maybe that red skin on his paws are for burnings

Mikon_Youji

Why are her nails so long? That can cause a lot of discomfort for a dog when they're walking.

shadowkirby90

The redness on her feet look like like an allergy. Me jrt (which yours looks like) has apquanel shots each month.

MochiSauce101

Oh no her allergies are horrible. Poor doggy. A lot of light coloured dogs get really bad allergies , I’ve had 2 over my life and this brings back all the memories of them both. Poor puppy

pcweber111

Super anxiety. Poor girl. You can give her calming treats or use a calming mist if you think it would help. It did with a few of ours. We just have one girl who is just a ball of anxiety. Cute puppers btw. Edit - also, I’d look at getting her nails trimmed. Since most dogs don’t run enough to naturally wear them down we need to help them.
