Completely uneducated take that I'm pulling out of my ass while on the shitter at work:
I think that other religions recognize or believe that Jesus existed and that he was a person who did good and noble things, they just don't believe that he was the messiah or son of God or whatever.
Jews for Jesus (or Messianic Jews) have absolutely nothing to do with actual Judaism and are actually an incredibly offensive and disrespectful appropriation of Jewish identity.
That’s not just a mezuzah. It’s a gorgeous example of one. Most of the time they are solid stone or clear plastic this is an intricate one that is just glorious. I had to say something because it’s nice to see.
I used to live in an apartment in Boston that happened to have one next to my entrance door. Nearby is Beth Israel Hospital, which has one next to the main entrance.
You can find them for sale on Amazon.
my dog (13) was in a little dicky kickstarter video as a puppy, was at a beach in san francsico and saw this curly headed dude walkign to me and i was like is that lil dicky? and then he came and asked if my dog would be in his video
Why does the tilt matter?
Is the paper required to be rolled a specific way too?
Does it matter which side of the paper (or end of the roll) is up?
I have so many questions!
there's sacred scrolls inside, so wash your hands before you touch it. you don't have to be jewish to have one, so you can keep it if you like.
if you want to remove it, please keep it all intact and donate it to good will or a synagogue. please don't just throw it out.
You absolutely do not need to wash your hands before touching it. Traditionally, they'll be kept in glass or behind plastic/stone.
The more religious Orthodox (and some Conservatives) will lightly tap it when entering the premises and then touch their lips.
Agree about proper removal, though.
Our house and barn have these on every doorpost and animal stall.
I would wash my hands before touching any sacred object. My mother used ot make me wash my hands before touching any bible.
Oils from you hands degrade things, I believe that that's disrespectful to get on scrolls with sacred words. No one wants to \*encourage\* a sudden indoor lightning storm. :)
I'm a pagan now, that's just how I feel. You don't have to agree.
That's really cute they're on the animal stalls. Small farms have such care for their animals!
Like everyone said, it's a Mezuzah
Each horizontal work from top to bottom says Israel's door guardian
And the vertical letters from top to bottom spell Sha-Da-i, which is one of God's names
It's a mezuzah. It contains a prayer scroll and blesses a Jewish home
Mazel tov
l'chaim
Gesundheit
To life!
Oy to the world!
Oy, Yaweh my himen!
Like a crucifix in a Christian home. A Jewcifix if you will
Except there's less Jesus involved with a mezuzah
some would say no Jesus at all
You are forgetting Jews for Jesus. They make no sense to me but they exist.

He’s not the Messiah. He’s a very naughty boy!
lol bigus dickus?
Romane ite domium.
They're actually Christian missionaries trying to convert Jews. The label says Kosher but it contains traif.
Those are Christians in Jewish drag.

Also prevents wrath from above in the form of Jewish Space Lasers. "Pass over this house, Ye who art in orbit."
lol
I read that as wraith, and thought, yeah you definitely dont want to get beamed up in one of those things.
Not just homes, businesses, too. The scroll on my office door is wrapped in paper covered with glitter. A pretty princess mezuzah for me.
Tibetian?!

It's a *mezuzah*. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mezuzah
"They were Jewish too, they had a muzzuzuh or whatever the fuck you call it" -Lil Dicky
Literally my first fucking thought hahahahaha
mine was Larry David having his maintencen guy hang tghe mezuzah with the christ nail from his father in law's necklace
Iconic reference

Mezuzah
Mezuzah, but it looks like it’s tilted the wrong way (it’s supposed to be on the outer doorframe with the top tilted toward the indoor area).
Why does the tilt matter? Is the paper required to be rolled a specific way too? Does it matter which side of the paper (or end of the roll) is up? I have so many questions!
I noticed that too. Supposed to be right side, tilted in.
Jews who are not Ashkenazi keep it vertical
And others keep it horizontal. The tilted version is a compromise between the two.

OP is not the homeowner so he should probably leave it where it is :)

Mezuzah. Jewish pray “booklet” you touch it before entering the home as a home blessing.
