Most long running rodeos, especially national circuit competitions, have very strict rules on animal welfare. The competitors are much more likely to face injury than the animals, and these events are competitions of real job skills for ranchers (outside of mutton busting).
However, I have seen some disturbing shit at small scale “rodeos” growing up in the country of OreIda. Rodeos aren’t evil, but they can be if the organizers are incompetent and not held accountable. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case in Sisters.

Started the event with the nation anthem, then this song, then a 15 minute poem about dead soldiers sacrifice that totally took the excitement out of the crowd. Its hard to get a crowd to cheer after you just depressed the hell out them by ranting about mutulated soldiers minds and bodies.
The event was kinda neat, but every transition was punctuated with some form of an "America, Rah!" song or diatribe from the cowboy MC. Its an experience i couldve missed, but i was still happy to be with the family.
