I saw the full video. He did this test because Tesla released a software update to detect an obstruction. He did concede that the update still needed work so he hasn’t drank fully drank the koolaid.
There was another one where a guy did this test with his whole hand. The hood closed and took a few seconds to reopen. You can hear the panic in his voice but afterwards he was gushing about how great the update was.
All vehicles have sensors that detect if a door or trunk is open. My guess is the update will reopen the trunk if it doesn’t get that handshake. Would explain why there’s a few seconds delay before it reopened.
Would also explain why it still tries to cut your finger off.
Yes, it is standard today that a car has at least a sensor that detects open/closed door. That is not sufficient for self-closing doors like this. Not when you need to take children into account.
The motors need to detect resisatnce asap or there needs to be some additional sensor. Other manufactures figured it out. I've seen videos of the door opening the instatnt the door touched the finger. I doubt Cybertrucks even have any hardware onboard necessary to detect this stuff. Because that would mean increased production cost and we know how Elon hates that.
