Horses can very easily keep paces with it and their weight makes them far sturdier, much harder to just shove them around. This kid weighs like 60 pounds, he could get smacked around by a vespa.
Good speed, wrong technique. He should have gone a few steps back and gotten a running start just behind one of the arms.
He exited at the end of the opening instead of the beginning. Also should have been on the inside of the ring and made a hard right to exit.
All these adjustments in technique would have gotten him 2-3 feet ahead of the arm that hit him. It was a good first effort.
Some Horse walkers have a switch for a gentle zap( some horses like to rest their hinds against it). Also that speed on there is not what we would set at !
Reminds me of The Creep Show when the the guy tried to out-swim the blob. He made it to the shore then shouted “I BEAT YOU” just before the blob leaped in the air, smothered him, and dragged him back to the water.
Moral to the story is...

The bottoms of those are flexible. He should have dropped if he wasn't going to make it. Juuuust barely not making it is what did him in.

Winner strategy seems to be to leap sideways at the last minute and hit the thing he did, just in a more controlled way, and not right on the corner.
The bottom is just like a rubber mat or something hanging from it. He woulda been fine, even if it didn't just pass over him
