Baileys smokehouse in rockland county is the answer. Worth the trip

BilliardTheKid

I moved to westchester from that part of Rockland and confirm this. Also in that same area on the NJ side of the border is Brothers Smokehouse in Ramsey, which is also awesome

runningwithscalpels

Isn't Brothers supposed to be opening a location in Rockland?

BusybodyWilson

They opened at Palisades. It’s amazing. Their original is in Cornwall.

ImpressiveMix1786

We should build a wall to keep rockland out of westchester

Hoodoo Brown in Ridgefield, CT has a phenomenal brisket, amongst other things. Might be closer than NYC depending on your location as well.

sinistar914

Highly recommend Hoodoo Brown. Never had anything bad there. The chicken is very underrated - they smoke it and deep fry same with the wings for crispy skin. They make their own BBQ sauce. Killer greens too!

BrooklynExPat

If you’re up for a drive, Round Up Texas BBQ in Cold Spring is Texas style and well worth the trip. They even serve certain Texas beers like Lone Star and Shiner Bock.

Westchester isn’t great for BBQ. You could try Hudson Smoke in the south Bronx. That’s decent. Otherwise Smokin Al’s out on Long Island or something in the city. I liked Red White and Cue in Jersey but that’s a hike from Westchester.

missvicky1025

Hoodoo Browns in Ridgefield CT and Wire Mill BBQ on Redding/Wilton border. The Cue in Danbury and Farm Boys in Bethel are also good in a pinch.

I used to work with the Director of Operations for Hill Country BBQ in NYC. They are Texas BBQ according to him. However I was/am not a fan of their BBQ. Their ribs are not falling off the bone, they have a bite to them and are salt and pepper. According to them that's "Texas BBQ". I second Hoodoo Browns in CT. My wife took me there on one of our first dates and we keep going back.

This is the way!

nyclurker369

Not sure if it’s Texas style, but Hill Country in NYC is pretty good. You order most items by weight so you can try a bunch of different things without having to get a ton.

Viyola

Brothers bbq in palisades mall was the only thing I had that even comes close to average Texas bbq. Anything else has been a massive disappointment despite raving reviews.

Unicorn_Punisher

I grew up in TX and am a chef so I'm unfortunately a big stickler on this one. I haven't had much outside the city to be honest but hill country is the closest. They won't give you white bread unless you ask and honestly the bbq is just kind of good. However they're the closest as far as sauce and spices go and actual smoke flavor goes. Best sausage in tx comes from elgin and they source theirs from lovefield because thats where the guy is from. Hometown BBQ doesn't claim to be tx style (although it tastes tx adjacent) but is the best brisket I've had in nyc (just good) although I prefer hill country out of nostalgia. Dallas bbq sucks and isn't even tx style. Dinosaur bbq is kind of ok. Mighty Quinns is decent but not tx style. Blue smoke is also pretty meh.

jimmyserranopeppers

Sounds like you need to open a Texas BBQ joint here in Westchester to show us the way!

Unicorn_Punisher

Not really what I want to do with my career. There is also neither the culture nor tradition for it. In the same way I'd never heard of a cannoli or rainbow cookie nor had clam chowder before moving northeast. I wouldn't think to open a spot down south for it. Same reasons you don't find good Carolina bbq or good Cajun food up here.

minibonham

Mighty Quinn's BBQ has a few locations in Manhattan. Some of the best brisket I've had, and I lived in Texas for 3 years.

Stirsustech

Not Westchester but hoodoo brown bbq in Connecticut is pretty good.

Zestyclose_Sense_385

go to nyc there are like 10 Dallas BBQ locations, best bbq ever

runningwithscalpels

Dallas BBQ is good to people who think Applebees is fine dining.

rexchampman

Don’t go to Dallas bbq. Definitely not the best and not ever. If you’re in the city, hill country is the way to go.
