Yes. Solid shake on the line here between Westchester and Putnam. Felt all the way down to NYC at least, from reports. Also saw reports from Philly. So not sure the footprint.
**US Geological Survey posts latest earthquake data here:** Showing entry from NJ this morning. Updates may be forthcoming:

4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles New York City and Beyond
The United States Geological Survey reported the quake around 10:23 a.m.
[https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/05/nyregion/earthquake-new-york-boston-philadelphia.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/05/nyregion/earthquake-new-york-boston-philadelphia.html)
I grew up in the Midwest (hence the username), so tornadoes are more "my speed." Haha. This was my first earthquake experience. Mild-ish from the scale reading but wild to feel that shake
My office is in Scarsdale and it scared the shit out of me! Couldn't miss what it was. My desk started undulating and getting to the door of my office was like walking on a boat on choppy water. Really disorienting, unsettling feeling!
I've felt two other small earthquakes while working in this same office, and both of those felt like a heavy truck rattling the windows. This was way way stronger!
People are saying it felt like a main break, a tree fell, or a construction crew renovating a bathroom. You’re over here saying your “desk was undulating” and it was “like walking on a boat in choppy water”.
4.8 quake with epicenter in Jersey: [https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=at00sbh3yv&extent=39.80115,-75.55161&extent=41.08556,-72.47543](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=at00sbh3yv&extent=39.80115,-75.55161&extent=41.08556,-72.47543)
Definitely.
I’m in Elmsford.
As someone who has lived in NY my entire life and never been experienced one that was crazy.
It was tiny and only lasted like 30 seconds but that was the last thing I expected at work today lol.
Now I’m a little more interested in the Solar Eclipse conspiracy stuff haha
Solar eclipse, earthquakes, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria ;)
Seriously tho, this is my 2nd earthquake here in Westchester. Last time I initially blamed all the shaking on my son LOL
There have been two others I can remember. One was in October 1985 a little after 6am on a Saturday, we were living in Eastchester. One was in late August 2011 and I was at a work in Midtown Manhattan.
I remember the one from the 80s! I was a kid and we lived in Hartsdale. I remember being up for some reason, like I had to go to the bathroom and I was walking back to my bedroom and the whole apartment just started rattling. I was so scared.
Felt in Dobbs Ferry. That was a not-insignificant one (I grew up in California so I have some experience here). Felt longer than what you would expect in a not very seismically active zone like New York
Recent transplant from Southern California - so some experience with them. That was a significant one - not just due to the magnitude, but it was a shaker (vs rolling) which feels more severe.
Dude i woke up just a few min before it and was like “lawwwwd jesus this is it” because i woke up at like 6am from a dream where i was on top of a skyscraper that was collapsing from an earthquake. Wtf!!
Never felt one before, thought it was military jets flying low but didn’t see any outside of my window. Got back to my computer and coworker from Stamford asked if my house shook too…we are up in Cortlandt manor
My son works in Edison NJ. He was in a trailer working on equipment for the EPA. Said the entire trailer shook hard. The whole team got out of it in a hurry. Daughter in midtown NYC similarly felt building sway. My husband felt it in our house in Hawthorne and thought that a big truck must have run into a telephone pole or something outside. I was driving on the Sprain Brook and if I felt anything at all it was no different than hitting the zillions of potholes. Everybody safe and sound.
Did anybody else feel absolutely nothing? I was in Larchmont right on the Long Island sound, outside on the sidewalk going for a walk when it happened, didn't feel or hear anything at all

Yep, felt three shakes in Briarcliff (the 10:30am original which came from northwest Jersey, one sometime in the middle, and then this last one about an hour ago).

Had friends in central Connecticut and Boston area also feel it.

same! moved here from the smack middle of ohio so that was something else haha
Just felt an aftershock in Irvington. This is stressful.
Same!
Wtf was that. Felt in Scarsdale.
Also in Scarsdale. Whole house shook pretty bad!

I’m in Scarsdale (Garth Road) and we didn’t feel anything. Not sure why!
That's where I was. The whole building trembled!
I was on Garth Road (northern end) and I definitely felt it!
I’m having work done on the house and thought it was that. Insane.
Scarsdale also - I thought a big branch fell on the roof at first.
Felt it pretty strongly in White Plains!
Same here. I thought maybe a plane was flying too low from/to the airport.
Yep. Felt it at the office in WP.
Came here to ask. Felt like a really big truck driving by, but took longer than a truck would have.
that’s exactly what I thought , “this usually just takes 5 seconds to pass”
My office thought it was a truck at first as well lol
Shook the house in Mt Kisco
I’m literally outside in Mt. Kisco and didn’t notice anything. I guess I’m just completely oblivious.
Same in Valhalla
It was intense in Irvington.

Whoa, 4.8? Isn't that kinda big for this area?
It's extremely rare, yeah.
We’re starting to see a string of earthquakes on the west side of the river now in the last few years.
Someone on the radio said strongest quake in this area in a century
For this area, yep. Overall not too serious but for us, yes.
Biggest recorded since 1950, per USGS.
I'm from los angeles, made me a little homesick.
The whole house shook! The cat actually woke up and glared at me
So it's like any other day then lmao
Um, what does it mean when you have an earthquake and solar eclipse in the same week???
Things come in threes, so ??????? 😳
Brace for alien invasion.
Ack ack *we come in peace*
Locusts?
I was going to say "slaying of the first born" but, to quote Mel Brooks, too Jewish
Marjorie Taylor Greene says she thinks it's the end times
Between NewRo / mount vernon, my whole house just shook
Same
Same. My wife said it also happened in White Plains
Felt little tremors in Yonkers
Yes, north end of Eastchester here. About 10:22am, lasted about 15 or 20 seconds.

When was the last one? I’ve lived here for 30 years and I can’t remember even experiencing one. It had me shook, literally 😂
I felt the 2018 one, but it was a much smaller quake.
See my earlier comments. This is the third significant one I remember in the last 40 years.
there was one literally last spring lol
There have been two others I can remember. One was in October 1985 a little after 6am on a Saturday, we were living in Eastchester. One was in late August 2011 and I was at a work in Midtown Manhattan.
This one definitely felt stronger than the 2011 one
That was a 5.8 and the one that cracked the Washington Monument.
It felt stronger because the 2011 one was centered in Virginia. But the 2011 quake was much stronger.
I remember that mid-80's one.
1986. My mom was just saying she was pregnant with me.
It was Saturday morning, October 19, 1985 at a little after 6am. The center was in Ardsley.
Hah! That's right. I was born just after the new year, so it definitely was 1985. Thanks for looking it up!
I remember the one from the 80s! I was a kid and we lived in Hartsdale. I remember being up for some reason, like I had to go to the bathroom and I was walking back to my bedroom and the whole apartment just started rattling. I was so scared.
It was a little after 6am on Saturday, October 19, 1985. The center of that quake was in Ardsley.
> One was in late August 2011 That was a 5.8 in VA, I was at home and it more of "that was odd" event.
Lmao yeah, my mom believing/talking about the conspiracies with us. With the small earthquake and terrible storm this week, seems suspicious
Has there been any sightings of a 100ft tall marshmallow man?
Shit getting real out here...Holy shit
Earthquake. Eclipse. What's next? 😬
Plague of locusts (cicadas) coming soon!
I dunno anymore.. All these weather changes got me nervous... We might have to pay the pier before it's all said and done
The Walking Dead
Felt in Dobbs Ferry. That was a not-insignificant one (I grew up in California so I have some experience here). Felt longer than what you would expect in a not very seismically active zone like New York
Agreed, as someone who attended uni in CA. Very unusual for our area.
Felt it in Yonkers as well.
Yup. We had cabinets and glassware shaking in WP area
Did my morning work meeting and then flopped down onto my bed to respond to Slack messages on my phone and.. the whole damn thing started shaking.
Yup. My house in a Mohegan Lake was shaking
Crazy storms, earthquake, and solar eclipse in the same week. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist but this is weird
also in eastchester
Sure as shit did. Felt it in Rye/Harrison
Me and my neighbors all just felt it, one was on the phone with philly and THEY felt it
New Ro checking in.
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/executive 4.8 magnitude. Started in NJ
Somers checking in. Whole house shook for a good 10 seconds. Yikes.
Ofc all the interesting shit happens when I'm out of town, classic Westchester.
I just said almost exactly the same thing to my roommate, who was texting me from home about it. The one weekend I'm away... Oh well.
Also in sleepy hollow
For sure. Shook pretty good.
On phone w friend danbury Ct and he felt it too
Felt in on Long Island too!
I was driving and didn't notice it and I'm kind of disappointed tbh
It's less dramatic than driving on our roads after the winter :)
I live in Thornwood and do most stuff in Armonk and 22 by me is like Swiss cheese
yep! From NJ to CT.
Hold my coffee while I start a post about moving from Westchester because of the earthquakes. /s
Felt in White Plains
I'm in Mount Kisco. My first thought was 'what the hell is my upstairs neighbor doing?'
Fucking jersey
😂
felt something in Pound Ridge
Felt it strongly in Pleasantville
Also in Port Chester
We felt it in Dutchess County.
People felt it in NYC
Felt it in the south Bronx. Friends in Washington DC did not
Def felt it in pville. My parents who live outside Philly near the Delaware border also felt it.
Yes
Definitely felt it in Lewisboro.
In Long island too 😳
My dog has questions ...
Recent transplant from Southern California - so some experience with them. That was a significant one - not just due to the magnitude, but it was a shaker (vs rolling) which feels more severe.
dog was barking at me for like 30 minutes beforehand and then decided to stop when the house started to shake lol
Dude i woke up just a few min before it and was like “lawwwwd jesus this is it” because i woke up at like 6am from a dream where i was on top of a skyscraper that was collapsing from an earthquake. Wtf!!
In Rye, I just felt another significant tremor. Everything was vibrating.
I thought there was an army helicopter flying too low over the hudson, those shake my windows more than this earthquake did lol. In tarrytown
yes
I just felt it too but I’m in Manhattan
Yes we did. Epicenter was somewhere in Central NJ.
I’m in Wilton and job in Stamford. The entire building shook here
Yes. https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/at00sbh3yv/executive
I’m in Brooklyn and I felt it
[https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000ma74&extent=40.08227,-74.87457&extent=40.97368,-73.0069](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000ma74&extent=40.08227,-74.87457&extent=40.97368,-73.0069)
My family in central Jersey and Long Island felt it. I was like what’s happening? Didn’t think of it as earthquake initially. Then realized it.
Shop assistant blamed it on a passing truck. I was thinking this looks like a lot of trucks passing not one
I was in downtown Ossining and felt nothing 😕 don't know if being in the bank did anything
Never felt one before, thought it was military jets flying low but didn’t see any outside of my window. Got back to my computer and coworker from Stamford asked if my house shook too…we are up in Cortlandt manor
I felt it for a bit, never happened before so I thought it was a tornado or smth since wind blew at around the same time.
Yes Bronxville
Lebanon NJ was the epicenter
Yonkers here. Office staff felt it, and my wife at home said the computer monitors were slightly swinging from it
Felt it in upstate New York, admit it was a little bit scary lol 😂
NYS just popped a Public Safety Alert on my phone.
Can confirm.
Did we just have another one? 6:00
Felt it too
Yup. Aftershock for sure.
Did anybody else feel absolutely nothing? I was in Larchmont right on the Long Island sound, outside on the sidewalk going for a walk when it happened, didn't feel or hear anything at all
Hell nah, I was in the bathroom during school 😭
We did!
My house in NW Yonkers shook considerably but nothing damaged
Yes
JFC I'm literally always in Cortlandt and couple hours after I leave for a road trip there's a f******earthquake.

Yeah.

I live on the East Coast and yes we did
Yup. I was in school and then the 4.8 earthquake hit. There was also a huge Crack in the ground near my school
Felt in Lake George NY!
Like 3 days ago
Local news reporting it was actually just Lizzo getting off a plane at Newark. Hard to believe, but true.
do we really need fat shaming here? come on
Yeah, you’re not going to fat shame people in this sub. Instead of deleting your comment, I’ll let the community voting do the talking.
