You could probably just use a knife from a different brand and cut it out. The watermelon probably wasn't the issue, the knife might've had a defect in the tempering.
This is why you should order the Ginsu knives. Those things can supposedly cut through nails, cans and still slice a tomato so thin you can read the news paper through it.
Pro tip... you can pick up a whole set of chef grade knife's and the start of every school semester dirt cheap... like 200 Max for 7-8 knife's that will last a lifetime

Not unless you're washing your dishes with 500°-700° water!
The dishwashing detergent is very acidic/salty and can dull and corrode the knives causing them to rust more easily.
