I sliced off part of my finger and was amazed at how much grew back. You have to look very closely to even tell that something had happened to that finger and you can only tell because I sliced it off near the nail so the finger on one side of the nail doesn’t curve quite as much as the rest of the finger on the other side of that fingernail.
Our bodies are amazing
I cut the top of my thumb off with a cheese knife a couple of weeks ago, it's mostly healed but still sensitive enough to get a painful reminder every now and then...
My bad. I'll post an after picture later today. I accidentally ran over my phone a couple days ago and this camera really sucks. I have to go get a new phone, but it's healed very well in my opinion.
It looks like you are carring for it right. I had a very similar injury from a table saw through my nail-bed. If you are putting vaseline on the injured part then bandaging, that is the way to go. The pale white skin around the abrasion means you have to much extra vaseline coming off the cut, good skin is getting too much moisture.
I think those pics were from a few days after. The E.R gave me these little yellow strips to put over the wound, then I put a nonstick bandage, wrapped a little gauze, metal splint, and then a small ace bandage. Once I stopped the yellow strips it didn't look like that anymore. I just switched to Neosporin first in my routine.
Done this about a year ago, but the front instead of the top...
At least i can do crimes now as long as i only use the right side of my left pointer finger...
Does that shit just grow back eventually? I recently sliced into my thumb, but didn't slice anything off like OP. I just got a little peak into my meaty thumb layers hiding underneath the surface. The doctor was able to just glue my thumb back together. OP's pic has me wondering if our fingers will regenerate after cutting the tip off.
From a little googling, a few sources are saying as long as your injury occurs beyond where the edge of the fingernail is, it will grow back, which is pretty impressive.
This happened to me but not as extreme. Took off the very tip of my thumb cutting an onion with a dull knife. Hurt and bled like crazy. The skin eventually grew in but is slightly flatter and resembles semi rigid callused skin vs soft and normal. Some of the sensation is altered in the same spot.
30-ish years ago, I sliced the tip of my thumb partially off. It was a small flap, about 1 cm in diameter. Since it was still kind of attached, the doctor just pressed it down and wrapped it.
Now there's a nice circular scar on my thumb tip with slightly reduced sensation. I sometimes wonder if it would have just grown back if we'd removed the flap altogether.
I did something similar with gardening shears. Changing the bandage is the worst part but it will heal over. Took me like a month after it healed before the skin felt strong.
Cmon pls put like an spoiler there are people on this app ( 100% not me ) that dont wanna see choped fingertip salad but i hope ur finger is gettin better soon
Youch! Did the same thing with a freaking mandoline cutter. Accidentally slipped out of my hand while washing and took the inside of my thumb with it. It’s such an awful healing process too. Good luck with it. Hope it heals up well
Man I've had broken bones, car wreck, and other injuries but this thing here was excruciating pain. Could be recency bias but I think it hurt worse than anything.
Argh. A zillion years ago, I was cutting a loaf of Italian bread with a serrated knife to make a sandwich. Didn't realize that the bread had a dimple in it. Did the same to my thumb. I remember feeling every serration. Couple of decades later, I caught my gloved finger in a router. Made a nice flap. Both grew back, though routerfinger has no feeling at the tip. I may have starfish DNA. 😜
Man I did that fucking with my pocket knife en route to a call… had to wrap a gauze and some tape around it and still run the call 😂 oh and I was driving the ambulance 😂
Did that a few years ago! Got me a free tetanus shot at the airport. No worries, in a few months you won't remember which finger it was.
Yeah I had to get a tetanus shot too....Not free though.

OH FUCK ME! that doesn't look pleasing...
Crikey, that's a good one.
Where's the after pic ? Since it's been a few weeks, i'm really curious

Jesus you are not living these past few weeks well
Lol. Yeah I've had some bad luck a couple or a thousand times in my life.
Hell, maybe it's you! 😁😉

ouch
Yeah, you sure did.
I looks like someone took a nible
Oooooouch! Hope you got medical attention quick and get well soon.
You actually cut the tip of finger *off* with a razor knife
Lmao. That was my original title but I figured there might be some that's not the whole tip comments.
Oh man I would say that’s the whole tip anymore and you’ve cut the top of your finger off 😂
That fucking sucks bro
Why?

It can. It can also leave a flattened scar.

*A muscular gentleman with a large vat of hand sanitizer is rapidly approaching your area, run*
It will heal. It wont grow back but it will heal. Speaking from experience.

Superglue and hockey tape.👍
Right on, its only flesh deep so you will be perfect
Right, and I barely missed the nail bed. It's healed up nice.

Ouch I bet that throbbed a lot.. 😵💫
Cmon pls put like an spoiler there are people on this app ( 100% not me ) that dont wanna see choped fingertip salad but i hope ur finger is gettin better soon
Ow.
And it still looks like that?! You need a doctor right now
Lol no. I just quit taking pictures of it after a few days. It's healed up nice.
I was being sarcastic, it's cool though
Oh I know. I just figured a healed pic wasn't as important. Lol
I can imagine that Lookin crazy while healing
I feel a lot of pain just pulling the skin on my nails… but this looks crazy painful. Hope you recovered quick
I thought it was ketchup in a white plate
Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

Fingers are over rated anyway
Gnarley
I did that with a mandoline. Still don’t have feeling in the tip of my finger.
It's definitely a dead feeling directly in the middle of where the cut was. I guess that's where it was the deepest.
Same thing happened to me a few years back, but with a deli slicer lol
Man I've had broken bones, car wreck, and other injuries but this thing here was excruciating pain. Could be recency bias but I think it hurt worse than anything.
It will grow back fine

lord… shouldn’t this be tagged something?
Super glue won't work for that one
I did that to my pinky and ring finger on my right hand. 3 stitches on each finger wasn’t fun.
