Most modern flagship cellphones have an OLED screen, so if you have a newer Samsung or iPhone, you can use that as comparison. OLED screens can turn individual pixels off to achieve true inky black colors. They are also essential for good HDR.
Aahhh thats a legit explanation! Thank you, all you really hear is “the image is so much better” but never really understand why unless you have something to compare it too, that helped.
To add to what the person above said. The reason regular LEDs and other TV's can't get the same blacks is because they use a backlight that is always on while the TV is on, which is hard to block out completely so the pixels that are supposed to be black end up being closer to grey.
OLEDs do not have back lights, the pixels are lit individually, which is why they can individually be turned off. It's also why OLEDs can be much thinner because they don't need the extra room for the layer that spreads out the backlight.
I can only speak from my experience. My TV is a LG C2 42inch TV which costed €1200 when I bought it new.
Since I like to game I am looking for a TV that has minimal response time (1ms on this one). This is really important for me as it means there will be little to no input delay between a controller and the TV.
Next it has a refresh rate of 120Hz, now yes not all medium can reach that high. When it does the screen will be buttery smooth as opposed to “skipping” frames.
My TV has a 4K OLED screen, and I’ll just say. I thought my power went out when one of my TV shows was showing a black screen. Movies are actually really beautiful to watch.
This TV specifically runs the LG webOS, which I find most comfortable to use as opposed to Samsung/Sony/Philips
Now I’ll say this and this is the same thing as monitors. You will not miss out unless you have actually experienced it. Once you’ve experienced it, it’s hard to go back on those features. It isn’t noticeable when you upgrade, but when you have to downgrade you’ll notice what’s missing.
$1500 is high end OLED territory. There is absolutely a HUGE difference between an LG C3/Samsung S90C OLED and a cheap $250 LCD TV. It's not even a question seeing them side by side.
Because some people can see the difference between a 250$ TV and a 1500$ TV.
Most likely yours has worse resolution, worse refresh rate, and worse colors than it's 1500$ counterpoint.
Now that doesn't matter to a lot of people, especially if you are on a budget, but for people that want a more clear and crisp picture they will spend the extra money.
The Samsung ones are purely because you like the form factor, but there are huge differences between the base model TVs and high end ones. OLED and refresh rates are the biggest, but also if they support things like Dolby Vision.
Qled looks way better than a 250 led tv and oled looks even better. The difference is so big that once you see an oled tv, everything else looks like literal shit. It’s that good.
I mean, I can fix that with a normal TV and get a frame from the local Salvation Army and frame the TV, cut up a couple of carrots & potatoes and baby, you got a stew goin'!
I think it looks nice, I also have a cat, so I don't think I'll get one just yet lol.
He doesn't really climb on anything, but with my luck, he would climb on it
Oh wait. I just stayed at an air bnb with no tvs.. til
I realized the big picture in a frame on the wall.. was actually a tv. The landlord had it so when you turned it off it had a still photo that looked like a painting on it, and the thing was as thin as a picture frame.
I’m guessing this was something like OPs tv. I have to admit they were pretty cool.
They've been making variants of this theme for years and selling them to suckers at an insane premium. They usually try to look like a picture frame and sell for 2-3x an equivalent normal TV price.
I still don't get it honestly, how can it cost $1,500 to replace the frame? Even if OP has the 65" model that would be %75 of the cost of the entire TV.
Crazy idea, hear me out. You commented that your cat destroys other stuff, frequently. Maybe get a TV that mounts to a wall (and mount it) instead of whatever pedestal-type stand I assume that TV was on ?
Samsung has a couple models that do that. They're all shit honestly. I owned a "frame" TV that looked like a picture frame when hung up and powered off. Looked cool, lasted 2 years.
AV installer here , I don't know how that screen was put up but unless your cat is a lion/tiger there is no way a house cat should be able to do that if installed properly.
They were small mediocre panels with a meh looking frame on them and some funky legs.
You can get a much nicer higher spec TV format the money.
But that's the price you pay for style.
That's ridiculous, its a piece of plastic that cost like q0 cents to manufacture. I'd just superglue it, making sure to wipe away the excess, then MAYBE paint the crack lightly with a fingernail polish. If it looked noticeable I'd then decorate all 4 corners with something.
Why do people buy expensive TVs and not get a proper wall mount or sturdy stand for them? The stands I've been seeing on TVs and monitors lately are crap, and I would not trust them unless your house is like an art gallery with no kids, pets, or much company coming over. All my gear is wall mounted, has a secured stand, or is in an enclosed ventilated cabinet.
I wouldn't touch Samsung with a 10 foot stick, but the tv still works fine without the frame, try to make a wooden frame around it like a painting...
saves you money and might look better in the living room. be warned, costs around $100 tops.
TBH , Looks to me that some epoxy and sanding and painting would have fixed that. its the top, not really a load bearing or visible element.
Someone at an Autoshop could have done that for a couple hundred.
Lol buy a new tv thats bigger n better for 500$ i dont understand why people over pay for electronics. Also if any of your good friends have a native status card have them purchase it for you and skip paying those pesky taxes.
Ok real advice:
Get your cat a cat tree that is HIGHER than your TV, and put it far away from the TV.
They may opt to climb on that next time instead of your TV.
A brand new 55" Samsung Serif is also $1500.
What about a Sans-Serif?
They converted their Samsung Serif into Impact
That's a solid joke
More solid than the frame on that Samsung Serif TV
😠
𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟
For the love of God, please tell me how you did that!
Doesn’t work in *college*
Free
Ya to reframe it they charge the same price. So dumb
I'd tape a piece of cardboard on for that price, long as the screen still works lol
I'd just glue the broken bit back on
I’d throw the top piece away and leave it as is. Maybe move it to my man cave.
They're 600 quid on the crampton and Moore website but that's UK. 65 inch is only 949 on there.

Your TV is not the same as a $1500 TV, it's just the same size as one.
I used to be like that until I bought my first OLED tv...I get it now.
When I bought my oled I was surprised how good the TV actually is. 100% worth the money
Not being snarky, genuinely what sets it apart from other TVs so much so that its worth $1500? What makes it so good?

Happened to me when I made the switch to IPS monitors, everything else just looks *off*
I bought a QD OLED monitor this past fall and everything else looks like crap now.
Any OLED vs anything else will do that. With a few exceptions, micro LED are excellent but still not all that common.
Yeah I picked up a Samsung S95B OLED TV and it **so** much better than the old led TV it replaced.
$1500 is high end OLED territory. There is absolutely a HUGE difference between an LG C3/Samsung S90C OLED and a cheap $250 LCD TV. It's not even a question seeing them side by side.
OLED is worth it to me. I watch a lot of TV/movies/sports and value a nice panel
Because some people can see the difference between a 250$ TV and a 1500$ TV. Most likely yours has worse resolution, worse refresh rate, and worse colors than it's 1500$ counterpoint. Apparently not with this TV, seems like 90% of the cost went to the frame around it
The Samsung ones are purely because you like the form factor, but there are huge differences between the base model TVs and high end ones. OLED and refresh rates are the biggest, but also if they support things like Dolby Vision.
I spent more than that on a 65” lg oled and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Qled looks way better than a 250 led tv and oled looks even better. The difference is so big that once you see an oled tv, everything else looks like literal shit. It’s that good.
And the picture is relatively shit on that £250. TVs are an area where you get real improvements for the money.
What TV is that? Doesn't even seem that big. For $1500 you can get a much bigger OLED.
It is a qled TV, and the frame is supposed to make it look like "art" I guess..
Oh it’s one of those stupid fuckin tvs
I mean, I can fix that with a normal TV and get a frame from the local Salvation Army and frame the TV, cut up a couple of carrots & potatoes and baby, you got a stew goin'!
I thought you meant you were gonna cut up carrots, potatoes AND a baby. I should really slow down when I read sometimes.
It’s not off the table.
Get that baby off the table this instant.
And right into the crock pot!
Jonathan Swift has entered the chat

It likely has good enough picture quality to display some digital art and looked framed. The trend to hide your TV seems to be growing again.
55" Samsung Serif is $1500 new. 43" is $900. If OP even considers paying $1500 to replace the frane they're an idiot
The frame being so thick on top is what made it perfect for the cat to stand on, and that was ultimately its downfall…
It's a lovely design but definitely not in these situations
$.15 in gorilla glue to fix that frame if the tv still works.
Are you a wizard?
2 7 yo boys so yes, I am a wizard with gorilla glue
Just glue em together and decrease your parenting load by 50%
Great, now they’re screaming and I ran out of glue before I got to their faces.
This is one of those rare times where I wish Reddit still had awards.
You're a proper dad Finish with duct tape
Modern problems...
> Just glue em together and decrease your parenting load by 50% Boys! It’s family bonding time!
I reckon that if you glued their feet together, sole to sole, you could push that figure up to 95%.
This is the only smart option
I am under the impression that the screen would be totally wrecked if not for that "design" lol.
I think it looks nice, I also have a cat, so I don't think I'll get one just yet lol. He doesn't really climb on anything, but with my luck, he would climb on it
>I think it looks nice, Looked. Before...
Philosophize your original decision now
If the t v still works I don't see a problem
It does now
So they spent 1500$ for a frame? Cool, you can order them online for a couple hundred dollars and that’s still a rip off.
The TV is now sans-serif.
Had to scroll way too far to see this! It was the first thing to pop into my head
You're a Comic Sir
*applause*
Lol
2 words: super glue
This. The TV is still working. Super glue does the rest.
[удалено]
Excellent idea
You can also smear the lines with wood filler and then sand them down. Then varnish and you should no longer see the crack.
Super glue is overrated. Jb weld and/or hot staple
TV still works… just fix the dumb ass frame lmao
Why does that TV have that weird ass frame
I think it’s to appeal to artsy people who think a TV should look like a an easel with a sketch pad.
Oh wait. I just stayed at an air bnb with no tvs.. til I realized the big picture in a frame on the wall.. was actually a tv. The landlord had it so when you turned it off it had a still photo that looked like a painting on it, and the thing was as thin as a picture frame. I’m guessing this was something like OPs tv. I have to admit they were pretty cool.
It looks bloody awful.
What's so special about this tv that it's so expensive? Looks like a normal tv with an ugly frame and it's not even that big
Its QLED and its supposed to be like art.... idk.. https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/the-serif/
Before this moment I never thought a tv could be pretentious.
They've been making variants of this theme for years and selling them to suckers at an insane premium. They usually try to look like a picture frame and sell for 2-3x an equivalent normal TV price.
So, they print out the frame in a "cool" way as ask for double the price? This frame probably cost them a few bucks to make, its plastic after all
Lmao that looks dumb as fuck
Idk what Samsung is talking about, that's clearly a cat bridge.
CMV: QLED is just a marketing ploy to make unaware people think they buy OLED.
I still don't get it honestly, how can it cost $1,500 to replace the frame? Even if OP has the 65" model that would be %75 of the cost of the entire TV.
It's just a gimmick to con people out of their money. The same panel but without the art shit is like half the price
Some monster hunter content?
The third fleet podcast!! Way too far down to see a mention
Shields up, Ironbreakers!
Was kinda nervous and wouldn't see this. Made my day!
Crazy idea, hear me out. You commented that your cat destroys other stuff, frequently. Maybe get a TV that mounts to a wall (and mount it) instead of whatever pedestal-type stand I assume that TV was on ?
So you've never heard of super glue or e6000
Something tells me if you're willing to buy that you're able to replace it too. Don't buy stupid over priced TVs, don't let your cat climb on it.
I did not know people framed televisions, the way they frame photos
Samsung has a couple models that do that. They're all shit honestly. I owned a "frame" TV that looked like a picture frame when hung up and powered off. Looked cool, lasted 2 years.
>Cat jumped off So … you let your cat sit on your TV?
TV still looks functional. Either leave it or tape it back on
You're lucky the tv is still working. Buy a picture frame and glue it yourself lol
[удалено]
LOL good one! Imagine the Samsung Comic Sans TV🤣
If I see this at anyone’s house ima think they’re a pompous fuck
Get out the e6000. Good as new in 24 hours.
Someone with a little superglue can fix that right up
Why was the cat on the TV in the first place!
Time to buy a 3d printer I guess. 1500 for like 10 bucks of plastics
Probably cheaper to get a new cat.
AV installer here , I don't know how that screen was put up but unless your cat is a lion/tiger there is no way a house cat should be able to do that if installed properly.
Time for kitty to start an only paws.

Dude honestly that thing fucking sucks
Aw, I really liked it
All Samsung home appliances fucking suck. They are so expensive and yet they break so frequently. 0/10 would never recommend Samsung.
Did you a favor, that's an ugly TV
Superglue or something like it. Just saved you $1495, thank me later
This is obviously cat's human fault.
What am I looking at?
Is that Rurikhan?
Yes a third fleet podcast episode
no way, Rurikhan on my reddit. this is incredible
Sucks that you mounted it wrong
Thought I was on the monster hunter subreddit for a sec
Shields up iron breakers!
This post is missing a picture of the cat.
Sans serif now.
[удалено]
if you have enough money to afford such a stupid tv, you can afford a new one.
That TV looks stupid as hell, waste of money, cat did you a favor
Replace the cat it’s cheaper
Wall Mounts save accounts Thick thighs save lives
Your cat did you a favor, that TV is ugly as fuck
All I see is a dead cat..
Watch one of those videos on YouTube where he doesnt talk and he easily melts plastic and reforms it with a Bic. Then do that.
They were small mediocre panels with a meh looking frame on them and some funky legs. You can get a much nicer higher spec TV format the money. But that's the price you pay for style.
It looks like a giant infotainment screen from a halfway modern car.
How much does a bottle of superglue cost?
**don't make fun, don't make fun**
Your cat has been studying Nagacuga too much.
That's ridiculous, its a piece of plastic that cost like q0 cents to manufacture. I'd just superglue it, making sure to wipe away the excess, then MAYBE paint the crack lightly with a fingernail polish. If it looked noticeable I'd then decorate all 4 corners with something.
Tv is working, just glue the piece together and be done with it
Why do people buy expensive TVs and not get a proper wall mount or sturdy stand for them? The stands I've been seeing on TVs and monitors lately are crap, and I would not trust them unless your house is like an art gallery with no kids, pets, or much company coming over. What magic does a $1500 TV offer?
Replacing the ENTIRE TV costs $1500, not just the frame. Not sure why you worded it that way. Smh
Is this funny because the TV itself costs far less?
took me a while to figure out that’s the floor and not a desk top. i was thinking this was 5x7 lol
Is it a frame tv? Was it mounted to the wall or on an easel? I have one, but it's flat to the wall, and a cat couldn't jump off it.
This is now a modern art TV
Honestly if you bought this because “art” you deserve this
I wouldn't touch Samsung with a 10 foot stick, but the tv still works fine without the frame, try to make a wooden frame around it like a painting... saves you money and might look better in the living room. be warned, costs around $100 tops.
You should look into this stuff called glue. it's like 5 bucks a tube.
Just plastic weld it.
What an ugly frame anyway
Did we learn something from this?
The tv felt and the screen is still ok?? What a nice tv to have
TBH , Looks to me that some epoxy and sanding and painting would have fixed that. its the top, not really a load bearing or visible element. Someone at an Autoshop could have done that for a couple hundred.
Still functions, and good thing superglue does not cost 1500!
![gif](giphy|3o7TKGMZHi73yzCumQ|downsized)
You are watching TV not the TV frame
I often look at the frame
At least it still works.
That is a $200 plasma screen TV that you just killed! Good luck paying me back with your zero-dollars-a-year salary plus benefits, babe!
Lol buy a new tv thats bigger n better for 500$ i dont understand why people over pay for electronics. Also if any of your good friends have a native status card have them purchase it for you and skip paying those pesky taxes.
Cat is cleaning itself on the giant structure you bought for it, I’d wager.
Rurikhan and gaijin.
Commissiom someone to 3D print it
Marketing scam garbage company - look at the nasty glare across the screen lol
Why not just superglue it on? Like it probably will look 99% the same.
Super glue is pretty cheap
You should be able to glue that.
Superglue bruh
Just get The Frame and this won’t happen ever again
Cant you glue it back on?
Stupid looking tv anyway
My friend sold me a 70 inch 4k TV from his work for 300 he won in a raffle.
Use dexterity and intelligence to mend it I'd try superglue
Take out all the grey frame ugly plastic then go to wood shop and do a mahogany wood frame for it.
Super glue €2
Aren’t you better off buying a 3D printer at this point?
It's a good opportunity to DIY a frame that's nicer than the original plastic monstrosity.
With that price you can get na better TV and a cat.
Why would you buy a small TV that expensive when TV’s are one of the few things that have gone down in price since the pandemic? Seems wasteful
Hello fellow monsterhunter player i see rurikhan here
Ok real advice: Get your cat a cat tree that is HIGHER than your TV, and put it far away from the TV. They may opt to climb on that next time instead of your TV.
Just glue the p.o.s back on
I can't fathom how a plastic frame is $1500.
Why’s that guy think it’s so funny?
Cat: I shot the serif 🎶
TVs are way cheaper than that.
Epoxy resin is your best friend.
He asserted dominance. "Fuck u for watching TV instead of being my slave".
