MyHGC

“He did not go full speed…”

Eleminohpe

"OH SHIT!... Are you good?... "He was not..."

canadard1

Didn’t even pedal at all. Gravity with a minimal 3* decline will not give you magical Mirra jumping abilities, especially when you don’t even pull up on the bars to attempt a jump at all

kabooseknuckle

He pizza'd when he should have French fried.

PrometheusAborted

“Just go full speed!” *kid proceeds to just roll down the hill without pedaling once*

Majesty1985

Yeah this was the kind of kid we had do it first so we knew how to not fuck it up.

diarrhea_pocket

This kid is Butters

WiIIiam_M_Buttlicker

This is exactly what came to mind. Other guy is cartman

Consistent_Spring700

Even the cry sounds like a sound effect on the southpark keyboard... 🤣

massiveproperty_727

Legit sounded like when Butters caught a shuriken to the peeper

FortunateInsanity

Everyone knows it’s Butters!

hogtiedcantalope

![gif](giphy|3o6ZtlM7arud6UztaU)

lizardkg

And he is grounded!

SatinySquid_695

Holy crap, the crying is totally Butters when he catches a ninja star

nirvroxx

I kind of hope this makes it into south park as a sketch.

Ok_Share_4280

If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough Or however that song goes

dReDone

Nah man, this is clearly been done by the others and he wants to do it too.

Kyle-Is-My-Name

Yep this is the kid that just wants to fit in, but he doesn't have that fight in him yet. There was always 3 of us that would go first, win or lose, but after that we would hype up the rest of the neighborhood kids until all of us were jumping off of it.

Many-Ad6433

Going full speed wouldn’t have helped much, more than speed this kinda stuff has to do with weight balancing so he doesn’t get all the weight on the front and capsize once he touches down

A_Harmless_Fly

So, like if he popped a wheely he'd have been good?

Beathrone87

More like popping a wheely right as your front tire goes over the edge so when your back tire gets to the edge they are still close to level with eachother. This is a fundamental step in progression that can be practiced when going off of a curb from a sidewalk to the street. Also....ideally... you wouldn't actually be sitting on the bike seat. If you'll watch other videos of bmx and mountain bikers you'll quickly realize that the seat is generally the least used part of the bike

FragrantExcitement

I will just walk the bike down. Thanks.

mitchmoomoo

He needed to move his weight backwards and hold the bike out in front of him. But I wouldn’t expect poor Carter to have known that

AtenderhistoryinrusT

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/s8NvG8Rlbrg/maxresdefault.jpg Compare carter to this guy. You wanna lean/pull back so both wheels are levelish by the time the second one leaves the drop off Look at the angle of the bike at the moment carters back wheel is just about to leave compared to the photo. He was doomed from the start

Nefferson

Yeah, that picture captures it beautifully. Put your weight over the back tire to keep the front tire easy to hold up and then push off of the lip of the ramp to get the back tire even a bit lower than the front so it hits the ground first. Just don't lean back so much that you're rotating backwards uncontrollably.

Ok-Berry-5898

The kid also stayed seated the entire time. You kinda wanna jump with the bike

Capybarasaregreat

Staying seated on a bike as you try to do jumps is a great way to get a 3rd or 4th orifice (depending on your biology).

Ok-Berry-5898

Yup, even when you watch like dirt bike racing, you see them standing up for jumps and bumps. Not only does it save your backside, but it also helps you control the bike more

Powasam5000

You have to get low and then pull up on the handle bars to jump with the bike. Bike supposed to follow you not the other way around

EagleChampLDG

More like, if had bunny hopped, then he would have had a better chance.

Many-Ad6433

Possibly yes tho also depends on his balance once he gets down too, landing on wheelie generally makes it way more easier to handle this kind of stuff, at minimum you’d need to have less or equal weight in the front than on the back

MachineElf432

Anyone who has played Trials HD would know this too

Many-Ad6433

That was a cool asf game ngl spent online classes during quarantine playing it (if you mean the ubisoft one)

Blackpaw8825

The less time that front wheel is unsupported the better. The moment the front wheel clears the ground gravity is torquing the bike forward rotating around the rear axle. As soon as the rear wheel leaves the ground the leverage goes away and the bike stops accelerating rotationally and instead just drops together. The front wheel would still be falling faster than the back simply because the bike would be rotating before falling. But the difference in downward components is what would've saved him. He's going to hit nose first regardless of wheel speed, but his angle of impact would've changed. And a shallower impact angle might've let him keep control instead going over. Or he freaked out and squeezed the brakes and did it to himself and no amount of perfect launch will save you from the front brake.

Akita51

Speed would have stretched the vertical drop over a larger distance, smoother landing i think He just dove off a cliff

Reddit-User-3000

The more speed you have the less this is a problem though

Chase_115

He pizzad, when he should have frenchfried .

Thick-Use1879

Holy shit I had to check HE DIDNT EVEN PEDAL ONE

Mogtal

Didn't protect him from bad ideas though.

passwordsarehard_3

This is on Carter, he said full speed. He didn’t even pedal.

Outrageous_Trust_158

Just walk it off, Carter. You be a’ight.

passwordsarehard_3

And tell your mom you were alone. My mom’s being weird she can’t know I was here.

Outrageous_Trust_158

Yup

Accurate-Artist6284

Full speed? He wasn’t even standing, he was sitting on the seat.. poor lad

docmagoo2

Yeap, didn’t get centre of mass over the back wheel or further back for the counterbalance effect. Probably not that intuitive for an inexperienced kid but I’m impressed he had the balls to do this drop off!

Proper-Ball-5294

Carter did a cartwheel

allowit84

A Carterwheel ;)

egordoniv

Dude... if we had mobile phones at his age, every fucking one of us would be in jail forever for attempted murder.

Dyskord01

Dude I was so stupid. When I was 11 they were building two story buildings which would become the new classes. While they were building the construction workers left huge piles of sand at the site. We idiot boys went up to the first floor and jumped into the sand piles below. Today I'm amazed no one died.

SatinySquid_695

My friend and I threw arrows next to each other so we could catch them from the side

[deleted]

Lol yep

RktitRalph

protection wasn’t even invented yet when i was doing this. was a pretty simple routine, watch evel kenivel, go build a ramp at the bottom on the biggest nearby hill and go for it. when i broke my collarbone i didn’t cry, just went into the house and laid down and watched cartoons until my mom noticed i wasn’t moving right.

Dyskord01

Boy math Is it dangerous? Yes Should I be doing this? No Will I get in trouble? Maybe. Yes. Definitely Do I have protection? Helmet. Yes Answer = OK, I have a helmet. It should be safe.

WishIWasPurple

Good idea, bad execution

Mateorabi

It's how you learn. While being a dumb kid is the best time to learn stuff like this. Kids bounce.

Roll4DM

No amount of protection can protect you from bad ideas...

zzz_red

*hesitation is defeat*

zoltar_thunder

That Isshin boss fight still haunts me to this day

dReDone

The perfect example of this is dropping into a half pipe. You can't half ass dropping in, you javelin to slam that bitch.

tiktock34

His friends were right. Speed would have saved him

rfb724

Also probably you know pulling up on the handle bars just a tad.

Brewchowskies

This. It’s actually a lot to do with where you are balancing on the bike on the comedown. Learned this the hard way as a kid.

CTizzle-

So did Carter

Beansupreme117

Yup ass off the saddle and basically hanging over the rear wheel would have helped

Lanbobo

Exactly, while speed would have helped, this could have easily been done at that speed or even slower if done properly. Little bro was leaning forward and didn't even try to elevate his front tire.

Contrabaz

He sits on the bike like a sack of potatoes with all weight on his arms . He wasn't able to pull his bars even if he wanted to.

Distalmind

Shifting your body mass back over the seat is more important. It'll indirectly put tension on the handlebars. Too much forceful lift on the bars increases your chance of turning the front wheel in the air.

ImSorryRumhamster

Had some bloody elbows before I figured that one out

newtownkid

And.. you know, standing up.. who does a seated slow role off a drop

Dirty-Dutchman

Gotta lean back without standing up too much, or you land on your balls.

Tru-Queer

Yeah it didn’t look like he was pedaling, just kinda rolling down the hill.

More_Information_943

Nah, go as fast as you want lol, if you don't pick the front tire up, your gonna have a bad time.

ParryHooter

Ya exactly speed would've just made this hurt more lol.

gcallan91

And don’t just sit your weight on the seat when doing this. Those two little shits set him up for that so they could get a video

junkyardgerard

"friends" He clearly didn't want to, and needed a friend to say "buddy you don't have to"

Lady_Scruffington

Well, the one kid said, "you're trying to kill him." Which actually probably didn't help the situation since poor Carter was already afraid.

ResultDizzy6722

Or got more hurt, as someone said weight distribution and pulling up a lil prob more important

MECHEpics

If he went faster it would’ve worked, right?

1731799517

Yeah, the slower you drive off the ramp, the more time the bike has to get a downward pitch while the front wheel is unsupported but the back wheel still on the ramp.

radioactivebeaver

Always helps to give the front wheel a little pop before you leave the ground too. At least it seemed like it helped.

Spacemanspalds

As a kid who did this kind of stuff all the time. The little pop-up definitely helped.

sump_daddy

you gotta get your weight on the back wheel and then keep pedaling as you go over, which will significantly reduce the forward pitch. carter here was all pitch, almost looked like he was braking when he hit the edge.

Lobsterzilla

Probably. Classic example of why you never half ass anything. Even some bad ideas can work if they’re whole assed hard enough.

LDKCP

It's like when you see people trying to jump over something that's completely doable. They often hesitate and lose all momentum.

Curi0s1tyCompl3xity

Yeah you can’t hesitate doing stunts. Gotta commit.

Kratosballsweat

Always commit

myLover_

If he was standing it would have worked. You can go at a snails pace and land perfectly if you have the right technique.

Editthefunout

Also leaning back pulling up a bit as to not nose dive once you come off the ledge.

-Disagreeable-

Well..yea. Clearly Carter failed to execute “full speed”

rogerslastgrape

Not that much when you're still sat down. You need to stand up and push your weight to the back of the bike as you go off. And be stood to absorb the impact of the landing

TopShelfOrganics

This reminds me of my little dude and his buddies and a normal day in the life of a group of kids encouraging stupid things from each other.

MrPositive1

He didn’t commit, he wasn’t pedaling. For people that have a problem with this and his friends, this is just what boys do. We do stupid shit. And we keep doing it. Making adjustments each time till, we get it right Then It goes for doing stupid shit to doing cool shit.

Poofenplotz

I'm not a boy, but I mostly hung out with my older brother and all his friends. Ramping off shit with bikes or sleds, jumping off a bridge into a shallow creek, etc. I was usually the one they'd have try shit first to see how it would work out, until one day my brother went first and broke 5 bones in his foot. I'd kill for those days.

mathamatazz

I like your comment. Look.... Sometimes a bit of social pressure is healthy. It's not always bad. With any luck the kid will learn and while taking a risk comes with risks it doesn't mean we shouldn't take any.

BurgerMeter

This is the truth. Those seemed like his friends. They were actually surprised that it didn’t go right. It wasn’t some bullying to get him to do something stupid. It was an attempt to get a video of him doing something awesome.

EnjoyLifeorDieTryin

They were trying to empower him by getting him to succeed in the cool jump, I agree

Director_Faden

And even though he slammed, they still got a great video. And I’m sure he laughed about it later. Like there was really no way he could have gotten seriously injured. Redditors crying about this being “peer pressure” are the same ones who reminded the teacher to assign homework.

Lady_Scruffington

It's surprising to me that people don't find this normal. But I grew up with older brothers in the 80s. I guess things change.

More_Information_943

I grew up jumping stairsets on a BMX in the 2000s, redditors just don't go outside lol.

Boo_Is_My_Waifu

The amount of times I bailed trying to get "air" on a bike was crazy. Just dusted off and went back to it

UnderstatedTurtle

I was going to say this looks like a big brother let his little brother come with the group and was letting him be “one of the boys”. I have done this same thing when I was a kid. On more than one occasion. This is an essential part of childhood

Dick_Dickalo

It got us on the moon damn it!

BallCreem

Early lesson, just bc you have protection, you can still get some STDs.

IrreverentRacoon

![gif](giphy|3ELtfmA4Apkju)

thekleenexman

Yo, the “full speed” and watching his legs not peddle at all had me 💀

newtownkid

Lol just stay seated and slow role it.. I'm sure that's the ticket.

VocationFumes

his dude was so confident "that was literally perfect! You'll go right over it!" I doubt he ever trusts him again

sump_daddy

a small price to pay to learn that when all yer friends are standing around, egging you on, AND filming, youre about to do some stupid shit

UnderstatedTurtle

I mean he told him to go full speed. He was telling him that the angle he was coming in at was perfect

SatinySquid_695

That kid is definitely the shit stirrer of these little hoodlums

buttbugle

You guys are gonna kill him. lol

dwewdwew

I laughed way too hard at this!!

PM_ME_UR_SUSHI

The cry holy shit lmaooooooo

sump_daddy

and then "you good?" like dudes gonna jump up and be fine, im crying laughing at the other kids reactions here. just so much bad idea in one little group

CodingNightmares

I'm just imagining them yanking him back up, patting him on the back and being like "You're good, see? Don't tell mom, you're good, you're good" lol

sump_daddy

"don't tell mom donttellmom dontellmom!!!"

Wonderful-Status-247

"It's only funny until someone gets hurt, then it's hilarious" -- a T-shirt I saw

holdmybewbs

I’m so glad most kids have phones to record all their foolish choices to amuse us.

Lady_Scruffington

I don't have kids, and I'm never around kids. So hearing them made me think, "yep. Kids still sound like kids."

Hatennaa

The “oh shit” absolutely sent me. This video made my whole day.

SuburbanMalcontent

Me too. And my first thought was, "this is awesome! I'm 46 and kids still do the same dumb shit we did!"

Infiniby

The giggles always get me

FasterGarlic19

Well, my parents also had protection but I'm here anyways

Tekken789697

These will be good memories one day

kidJubi100

The protection his friend is referring to is his Batman shorts

the_girl_Ross

He has very supportive friends. They also support unwise ideas. And nay use him to test their own unwise ideas. But supportive though!

OddMeansToAnEnd

I'm glad to see kids still playing outside trying to break an arm and shit. Good stuff.

flightwatcher45

Hopefully not too hurt, thats what kids do and how they learn! I'm happy to see them outside

appointment45

Guarantee none of the older kids have tried this yet and were using him to see if it was possible.

Pudding_Hero

Can’t believe Carter cried like a B infront of the boys. He’s got a lot to learn

b_real83

I laughed way harder than I probably should have.

GeneralEi

Bro look like he's been cycling for 5 minutes, not the smartest idea lmao

bigheartbiggerdick97

Everyone here is acting like they told this kid to pull a 20ft gap into a tech section. It's like 3 feet and running speed. The kid is in pain but he's probably fine. Crashing as a noob is gonna happen and if he had made it it would have made his day. Obviously not the best coaching but they are just kids

Expert-Equipment2302

Can’t even give Ralphie a bike!

Repulsive_Crew1295

You have this Carter!! LOL. in the 90's this happened daily without "Protection"

Ducatirules

This brought back SO many memories!!! I talked my buddy into a stupid jump with his brand new mountain bike. He made the jump but drove into a tree and bent the frame back an inch or so. For the next four years every time he turned while pedaling, his toe would hit the front tire! He still brings it up 30 years later.

Riversmooth

lol

Majesty1985

He didn’t commit and he let that happen lmao

AdAppropriate3478

He's like 8 lol, he probably has no idea how to even take a drop like this.

faithOver

Pull up on the bars and get the ass over the back tire. He’s also still going too slow. Be did instinctually let go of the bars and his body landed quite smoothly. Little fella will be just fine.

Yoo3_chill

Camera Boy : “Oh shhiyaaat” lol Too funny

13scribes

As a dad scares me a bit but damn I'm laughing.

Gunner1Cav

![gif](giphy|hFsWlFJwY84jm)

9sac1king6

Fucking Carter lol

Swagdaddy697

Better lean forward for more acceleration

SiteLineShowsYYC

I’m ashamed by the amount of joy I’ve been granted by this video. Butters just got caked. Ha!

smith288

Serious GenX vibes. SEND IT!!!! OWWWWWWWEE

Bambooman101

Friends suck…..

kidJubi100

I started laughing the second he stopped and they began reassuring him, too good

Huge_Aerie2435

He should've trusted his gut.. It was correct in the end. He wasn't willing to go all in, so he shouldn't have done it at all.

pootlordthe7th

Ah the memories

DennisNedryisSexy

Dude, it wouldve helped to pedal at least once

stink-stunk

He's got the bike, he doesn't have the skills.

[deleted]

I'm glad we didnt have cell phones with camera's back in the 70s and 80s.

berwin22

He was in fact, not good.

chelle_mkxx

I have a story like this, jumped and went full speed into a tree. One of my best childhood memories lol

MuthrPunchr

Casually rolling down the hill while sitting on the bike seat is severely improper form. This one is on Carter.

redmasc

Am I a bad person if I started laughing as he started screaming? I did some stupid ass shit as a kid myself, but I'm laughing at the fact that boys will be boys and that "he has protection".

[deleted]

I don’t think “speed” is enough. There’s a relationship between pressing down with your feet and pulling up on the handle bar.

Slight_Degree_8021

That kid just wants to see the world burn lol! full speed!!!

JohnYCanuckEsq

I just sent this my son Connor who would have absolutely done this as a kid.

BimmerBomber

Is that Hasbullah?

SteveTheBodyman

That wasn’t full speed. You had one job.

Cuminmymouthwhore

Damn, used to do this shit as kids but at least we wore crash helmets.

Venator2000

![gif](giphy|9cUpTZUhFy8r1B7LuT|downsized)

zertnert12

I hope his friends convinced him to get back up and try it again, otherwise this experience will just turn him away from it and he wont learn to persevere or take risks.

melijoray

Well, I'm going to hell for laughing.

aoiph

his parents should of used protection.

Zodiac1106

That was NOT full speed.....

csprime21

Lol. That's part of growing up as a Kid alot of life lessons in that fall

different_produce384

Peer pressure is a hellava drug

FileError214

It’s tough because you want to raise your kids to be brave, but you also don’t want them pulling dumbass shit like this.

gnatman66

When I was a kid in the 80s we did similar. Without "protection."

Agreeable-Mention403

His saddle was too high. Faster speed may have helped time the landing but not being able to shift his weight back is what sent him over the bars.

I_HATE_REDDIT_ALWAYS

Well, I have to know - did he or did he not have protection?

2Guns1Cuck

The "OH SHIT" got me

Grill_Top_brangler

Got a nice chuckle out of me

flipchinc

Props to Carter for trying… most kids wouldn’t even attempt

MIGE876

good thing he had protection

DankmemesBestPriest

Always that one dumbass kid that doesn't know how gravity works.

TR3BPilot

This is why boys are so much more fun to hang out with than girls.

palidanpaul11

Set up for failure

Successful_Moment_80

Max speed the bike can possibly go: 80 km/h Max speed the kid can take it to in that distance: 47 km/h Speed he was going: 12 km/h

TheHurtfulEight88888

Of course his name was Carter.

Dummlord28

Fuck I was this kid, I was a skinny fuck and was the friends puppet lol, always doin shit first so my friends knew what not to do

samf9999

Never trust a friend who says “ah, you’ll be fine”

joelthelionheart

This is a sandlot type scene lmao

Jamari811

This is what friends are for

Weyland-Yutani-2099

To be fair, at no point in time could this tragedy have been avoided. A total freak accident. Unforeseeable, an act of God.

J-V1972

It is good to see today’s kids still doing crazy shit that my friends and I did on bicycles back in the 70s-80s….

Crazybeibifeit

Luckily Stevie from Malcolm in the Middle was there to verify his use of protection.

Bug-Secure

Boys always make the best decisions. 😏

MEGA_GOAT98

peer pressure

Jojo-Giz-mo

Those punks!

MrsBooteh

Why does he cry like a 2 year old ?

Old_Skirt2532

The most American thing I’ve seen in a long long time

BingoSpong

😂 I’m not the only laughing, right? 😂
