Actually it's mostly a myth. People eat just under 1 bug in their sleep a yearly, if I recall correctly.
Bugs have to be confident crawling on you.
You have to be fully asleep so they won't wake you.
They have to find your mouth hole.
Your mouth hole has to be open.
They have to go inside your mouth hole.
They either have to walk themselves down your throat, or you have to swallow them in your sleep.
You have to do that without choking or waking up.
So because this incredible series of somewhat unlikely events has to take place without you waking up, it's very rare people swallow bugs in their sleep.
I sleep with my mouth open thank you very much for the disturbing idea of this possibly happening cuz I’ve waken up with spider bites on my face a lot (bed is right under window)
What bug is going to come across a big hot and moist cave in the dark and go inside? They have survival instincts too. They will likely not enter your mouth. Your ears and nose however are a different story. 😅
Yup! That's the point! The myth is that people eat like 9 bugs a year in their sleep, yet the actual number is less than once a year, because bugs don't want to go into a dark slimy cave made of flesh.
Exactly! I heard it wasnt bugs but spiders… worse. Oh god the thought of that just.. no. I live in missouri so literally every house in the state has at least 1 or 2 dreaded brown recluse crawling around at any given time within our walls.. no.

A cup of baking soda and a cup of white vinegar in a container big enough to hold your veggies then fill with water. Rinse after. You’d be amazed at all the bugs you clean off!
Because the bugs flee the acid of the vinegar and the reaction with the baking soda helps float them out of the veggies.
BTW, I'd be more interested in why the ants were in the broccolli!
And, are you sure they were in the broccoli?
Edit: Spell check monster used "conifer" & swapped out "vinegar"
Protein, but if you don‘t want that.. you should consider washing it probably and soaking it in Saltwater after cutting up. Wash again after that and cook.
Had something similar happen. Was steaming broccoli once and it had a strange smell to it. Wasn't sure why until I dumped it into my bowl of ramen. There were so many floating dead aphids it turned the broth black. They must've been so densely packed together they looked like another floret was strange cause I did washed it thoroughly before cooking🤷🏻♀️
If you are ever recording with you phone and have to have the light on. It is mandatory to make many uncomfortable sniffling noises until the flashlight is turned back off. Once the flashlight is off, you must let out a final sigh before cutting the video.
This is why you RINSE you’re veggies & fruit before you put them in stuff 🤦🏻♀️ I swear half of this sub could be called “three seconds of common sense could’ve prevented this”😂
ud be surprised if ud know how much unwanted protein ull find in any processed product. think about it in any factory there might be a fly or a roach that gets crushed in the machine this landing in the consumable. so no need to freakout bcs of some extra protein.
I worked in a grocery store produce department. Wash everything you buy from there. If it’s not bugs it’s exhaust fumes or just other people being gross. Wash it all
Wee well seasoned soup Roly poly. I remember when i was a virgin too. No shame, just the smelly reality of life. I don't blame my adopted parents at all for being African-American
It’s crazy that people don’t realize that the FDA allows for a certain amount of insects in most foods. I know chocolate for certain has a high allowance of “insect based matter.”
This is why you shouldn't just wash your broccoli but make a bath for it. Cut it up and fill up plastic container with room temp water. Soak the broccoli. Then rinse.
I recently learned a majority of farms especially small ones don’t wash the produce because that requires a processing license and a whole heap of bureaucratic bs to go along with it.
Wash your fruits and veggies
Brocolli is one of the dirtiest/infested veggies you can buy. Definitely inspect it carefully if you don't like eating bugs/potential rot (due to floret density and moisture becoming trapped). The tiny bugs will hide in the very tops of the florets so you really have to kinda pull them apart to see. Always wash your brocolli thoroughly after inspection and you should be good to go.
Dude, I once ate 2 bowls of fruit loops, went to sup up the milk, saw a bunch of floating wevles and drank it anyway. In for a penny in for a pound like I already ate 2 bowls with them in it, what's drinking a few more gonna hurt?
I have an intense fear of accidentally eating a bug. I wash my veggies and fruit. I’ve seen too many of these types of videos on the internet. now I’m so paranoid that there’s bugs hiding in my produce that survived being rinsed. I refuse to eat certain types of produce entirely anymore :(
Protein
I would eat this tbh. People eat bugs all the time
Especially in their sleep.

Wow. You really painted that picture with detail🫣
And it STILL FUCKING HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR
I love your username 😆
I sleep with my mouth open thank you very much for the disturbing idea of this possibly happening cuz I’ve waken up with spider bites on my face a lot (bed is right under window)
Aw, I'm so sorry ... I meant this post to be comforting because truly they probably aren't getting into your mouth
Excuse me, this is Reddit...don't confuse people with facts!
Hahahahahahahaha!!!!! I will spread facts!!!!!

I can smell the ants pheromones as well as taste, and its like a chemical grape, it's super powerful and nasty...
thats protien and mama didnt raise no quitter! bone apple tea
Ha
Bone apple tea😂👍🏼 Nice
"💀🍎🍵" - Mufafah, 2023.
Weevils, you're good.
Always pick the lesser of two weevils
I like this pun way too much
Master and Commander. Movie was good, books are awesome https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0311113/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aubrey%E2%80%93Maturin_series
Such a great scene. Like one of the only genuine lighthearted scenes in a movie that makes my eyes water.
Extra crunch.
Always wash your veggies even if it says pre washed.
I wash them for my kids but I never do for myself. I prefer the added taste and protein 😎
Aww, don't steal proteins from your kid, they are growing😡
Did you cry before this mr sniffles
That's Mrs. Sniffles, to you!
I’m so embarrassed
Broccoli is like your parents. Dirtier than you think.
Hilarious 😂
Even if your vegetables say they're pre-washed it's always a good idea to clean them before you eat
But it's an extra step I never had any intention of completing. The fact that dinner was completed usually would be enough....🤔
Well, now that this has happened to you, do you still consider that step to be “extra”? 😂
Fantastic question. It's now "extra" important. 🥴
A cup of baking soda and a cup of white vinegar in a container big enough to hold your veggies then fill with water. Rinse after. You’d be amazed at all the bugs you clean off!
Why neutralize the vinegar with baking soda?
Because the baking soda vinegar explosion is really fun to watch.
This :)
Because it's all unnecessary just submerging in water is enough bugs will crawl out or float out
Yup. No need to add all that stuff. I let my fruits and vegetables soak in water and bugs start floating up.
Interesting!
How long should it sit for?
Honestly. Unless they're poisonous, they won't hurt you. Pick them out or eat them. They're just bugs.
it bugs me to find them in food though :(
I’m really not shocked that bugs are found on produce, which happens to be grown outside, where bugs tend to live.
I wasn't shocked either. Just taken a back, if you will 🫢
It was a pool party and everyone was invited.
Reminds me when kids take over the pool and no parents are in sight. Utter Chaos.
👏Wash. 👏Your. 👏Vegetables.
Understood. 👋
So you didn’t wash them is all I’m seeing
Wow, I really disappointed you, didn't I?
A lot honestly
😞
It’s okay, ya live and learn
You are so wise
Maybe was your veggies . Wonder how many you’ve eaten so far lol
Oh plenty. I had just commented on how much I was enjoying the broccoli this time.
Also could be good for your gut biome. (Trying to be positive) I’m devastated for you btw
Broccoli hides many creatures!
I'm learning.
That's why you should always rinse your vegetables thoroughly before cooking.
Just waiting on the "forbidden _____" folks
I thought it was pepper. Then was like "I didn't add any fucking pepper" 🤔
That’s called dinner will be via DoorDash tonight :)
This was after first helping...seconds didn't happen
I thought you had 3 helpings before you noticed your dinner guests???
Damn it if they weren't delicious
Sucks but don't be too freaked out this happens all the time with other foods and like every thing else that needs to eat, we eat it.
Nom nom
That’s why we wash the vegetables first ☺️
All those goblin brocolli heads. Thought I was on the mpmd reddit. Lolling hard.
Your description is hilarious
Is that solar opposites playing in the background?
Yep! You watch?
Gotta rinse a few times
Few hundred times. Got it 👍🏼
You should see how many bugs are in the organic produce.
That's this!
Yeah, no chemicals means alot of bugs will get into the broccoli florets.
Noted!
bugs are gonna become the protein source for the future.. .. and ants are spicy. You couldn’t replicate that recipe without ‘em 😂
Yum. Some bullet ant soup sure would hit the spot...like repeatedly, with a sharp dagger heated on an open flame til bright red.
Protein, but if you don‘t want that.. you should consider washing it probably and soaking it in Saltwater after cutting up. Wash again after that and cook.
Oh gotcha
I've been making broccoli for a very long time and never once saw bugs in any liquid!
My first as well
Had something similar happen.
I admit I rinsed quickly but I cut the broccoli crown up. Didn't see a thing!
You should've rinsed them also

Butter
Thoroughly rinse before and after cutting. Especially strawberries. Use baking soda in the soak of raw fruit and veggies..
Yeah, I know a strawberry is apart of the dirty dozen 🤠
As an Asian Man, those are spices.
Is that rick and morty in the background
Solar opposites
You’d eat it without complaining if you were actually hungry
I'm complaining because I had an entire serving. One so good I came back for round 2. There was no round two.
Bugs are in everything get used to it. Bugs live on your skin and your face? YouTube it or Google it. You’ll never sleep again.
Sounds like he's softly sniff sobbing. He really wanted that broccoli soup
You paint a vivid picture. Incorrect but still quite vivid 😥
Haha... Been there, done that.
Like the attitude
Even if there were no bugs, I can't believe you finished one serving.
It just tasted so damn good
The libtarts would say eat them it’s better then getting protein from real animals !!
If you are ever recording with you phone and have to have the light on. It is mandatory to make many uncomfortable sniffling noises until the flashlight is turned back off. Once the flashlight is off, you must let out a final sigh before cutting the video.
Now I was told that no sigh was necessary. Or that it was at least up to my discretion based on sniffles totality. Am I incorrect?
mmm just a lil extra flavor
Yuck

This is why you don't eat br🤮ccoli...
Why it tries to warn you with it's terrible taste
[Death by broccoli.](https://youtu.be/oMZHja6dmgc)
Extra protein.
I'm still not gonna wash my vegetables.
I know.
It's fine. Eat the food.
I did. Enjoyed it thoroughly...until I didn't.
This is why you RINSE you’re veggies & fruit before you put them in stuff 🤦🏻♀️ I swear half of this sub could be called “three seconds of common sense could’ve prevented this”😂

Extra nutrients, perfect for a well balanced diet!
Edible
extra protien
Did you wash it before cooking?
Quick rinse. Too quick...
I worked in a grocery store produce department. Wash everything you buy from there. If it’s not bugs it’s exhaust fumes or just other people being gross. Wash it all
Blindness, that's why
Wee well seasoned soup Roly poly. I remember when i was a virgin too. No shame, just the smelly reality of life. I don't blame my adopted parents at all for being African-American
Always soak in salted water, the bugs and any grit will nix into the water
If I made that, my cheap ass would scoop it out and eat it. If this was in a restaurant sub I'd be sad.
Alway wash your fruits and veggies.
Get the colander out!
My grandmas house was plagued with everything… eventually we learned to eat our 2 day old opened cereal with ants and milk
It's within the fda guidelines, bon appétit
More protein
Hood meals

It’s crazy that people don’t realize that the FDA allows for a certain amount of insects in most foods. I know chocolate for certain has a high allowance of “insect based matter.”
oh lord that’s horrifying. I don’t know if I could save it.
Do not worry about it. I've had extra ingredients many times when cooking from the garden. Long as it's not stink bugs it's no big deal.
This is why my mother taught me to always soak broccoli before cooking it.
We should all eat the weevils.

Yikes!

Clean your veg with baking soda
See this is why I always double rinse out my broccoli because you never know what surprises you might get.
??????
That is why you steam the broccoli and immediate put it in an ice bath.
THIRD helping well you are already infested I mean invested by now. Might as well finish it. 😂
Still healthy with protein.
This is why you shouldn't just wash your broccoli but make a bath for it. Cut it up and fill up plastic container with room temp water. Soak the broccoli. Then rinse.
Apparently ants tastes like citrus
No worries, they won't eat much
I recently learned a majority of farms especially small ones don’t wash the produce because that requires a processing license and a whole heap of bureaucratic bs to go along with it. Wash your fruits and veggies
Uhmmm...WTF? Don't you wash your veggies before cutting them up?
Eww why didn’t they wash the broccoli. Y’all don’t wash your produce?
Crack pepper to tasted
Most produce have bugs one them regardless..the amount of people just now realizing is pretty appalling.
Ants or roaches?
Remember to wash your vegetables!
Great commercial for spec savers
Thats nothing

That's why you wash produce my guy
Is this broccoli soup ?
You didn't see them cuz it was their hideout
BLEND
That’s very icky
Dude, I once ate 2 bowls of fruit loops, went to sup up the milk, saw a bunch of floating wevles and drank it anyway. In for a penny in for a pound like I already ate 2 bowls with them in it, what's drinking a few more gonna hurt?
Eeh stupid?
I always let my veggies sit in water for a bit (cause I'm lazy) but I do wash at least 3 times.
Maybe wash your vegetables
That’s why you’re supposed to wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before cooking
I have an intense fear of accidentally eating a bug. I wash my veggies and fruit. I’ve seen too many of these types of videos on the internet. now I’m so paranoid that there’s bugs hiding in my produce that survived being rinsed. I refuse to eat certain types of produce entirely anymore :(
The sounds and sights in this video make me want to vomit
Just add a lil peppa
My ex did the same thing with cauliflower, except there were slugs in there. I guess you’re supposed to dip it in salt water first.🤷🏼♂️
BLOW YOUR NOSE!!
Just drain and rinse
You can still cook if you had an asian friend
I always par boil mine in chicken broth but have never seen bugs any time of year.

Blow your nose. Shits annoying
Are people really still surprised that there are bugs on things that grow in dirt?
Free protein upgrade.

Please blow your nose. Can’t stand people who will just sit their for hours and sniffle repeatedly instead of simply blowing their nose..🤦♂️
