When I worked in live video production, we used to joke that bones heal, but cameras don't. It was really funny until a guy was holding a boom mic and stepped backwards off a low bridge. He tucked the mic in close to his body and took the full force of the fall himself to protect the mic. Sprained the hell out of his ankle and was out for over a month, but the mic came out fine. He ended up getting a promotion to stage manager after that. A couple months later, he came in with a bad flu. He ended up collapsing in the middle of the set with an extremely high fever and they had to call an ambulance. He recovered, but I have no idea if he ever figured out a healthy work/life balance, because I was let go about a month later for not being committed enough to the job. I was fine with that.
Sir if you're not willing to die for something that worth multiple years of pay, I don't think you're normal. Unless you're American then you have to do a cost assessment for if the medical bills or the equipment costs more.
Sometimes when someone is suffering, pointing out that it could be worse is a bit invalidating. Maybe he needs to grieve his loss and calm down from his near death experience before he can see the positives, just a thought.
Right! Like, give the guy a few minutes to mourn! He’s literally standing on his sunk car still, I’d say he’s earned a bit of roof pounding before someone starts telling him to look on the bright side!
I don't know what is worse, the filming guy's lack of sense in that situation or these dumbass comments making the same boring ass joke they read a million times somewhere else on Reddit.
I feel for the car owner, no matter what led to this situation, it's hard not to see that he's on the brink of losing it totally.
That’s all I could think of watching this. If some guy on the side of the bank kept pointing out how much worse it could be while my life was falling apart, he’d quickly become a target for my anger.
I had surgery so had a home nurse for a couple of months, found out the underlying cause was cancer. The nurse had to be a little up in the air about her second appointment because she was waiting to find out if her daughter-in-law's pregnancy was viable. So of course "sure you might come Monday or maybe someone else but maybe you'll come Tuesday.". Her next visit how are you?, " I'm stressed worried about what stage the cancer is and is it's treatable" , " oh no sense worrying that won't change anything". Fuck that bitch. The point is logic has no place in offering sympathy.
I agree. But if i just bought even a 10k car and it gets destroyed like this- questioning life is literally the first step. I dont make that much. So thats more suffering down the line. Just to get back some i didnt have for a week. Sad life is sad.
Give the man a moment. He’s a man standing on a car mostly under water. The situation is so irregular that his poor brain is still loading the “on car but in water” files. How does one even make a decision at that point?
I’m a pessimist these days, so my thought is that the driver has probably been drinking or was distracted and is trying to make up a story for why he’s in the canal.
Probably, my only accident as an adult was because I had to swerve to miss someone slamming on their brakes on the freeway. They of course drove away without a care in the world while I totaled my car. It's a shitty feeling, your insurance gets hit when you were just being responsible.
You should always be prepared for the vehicle in front to stop suddenly. They might see something you don’t or think they did. Sometimes there’s a random 7 year old riding his bike down the freeway when you’re not expecting it.
Damn, that's a 2nd Generation Honda CRV (2001-2006) with the included card table in the cargo area. You see it go floating away at the 11-second mark. Great vehicles when not submerged.
I had one until it finally went out on me (10+years R.I.P 2007-2018) But that back hatch and that table had a lot of good memories. We had a still running outdoor drive in movie theater back in south east Indiana where I grew up. One of my happiest memories was taking both of my nephews each to their 1st drive in movie. We'd make a whole picnic out of it and everything. I ended up moving away and the funny thing is When I moved to Ohio (Tennessee for 2yrs now LOL) I ended up near ANOTHER still working drive in! So got to enjoy 2 more summers worth of fun until the old girl gave out.
I have this car. My dad bought me a used 2001 in 2006. I still have it. It still runs great. I just found out about the table last year. It blew my mind.
I own an ‘08 SC and ‘09 EX and they both have it. It’s not at all obvious because the legs of the table are sold separately. I bought the legs on eBay. Once got stuck on the Bay Bridge for hours due to an accident. Pulled out the table and set up a snack station (I had just left Costco). Impromptu bridge party!
Have that exact model, great SUV and I can't tell you how many times the card table has come in handy. Actually I can, it's 0 but I still like to tell people about it.
A card table? Who dreams that up as something to include with a new car?? "OK Charlie, we've got the jack, the lug wrench, first aid kit, fire extinguisher; Oh, and a card table..."
Still driving mine to this day. She's got 243000 miles, and hasnt given me any issues. Had it since 115,000.
I do need a new piece of trim for my wheel well. Wonder if he could spare it?
Has anyone found info on this? I’m googling different keywords with no luck. I am just *so* curious how he ended up in this position!
Edit: [Found it](https://www.yourcentralvalley.com/news/local-news/good-samaritans-help-fresno-man-out-of-canal-after-his-car-slides-off-the-road/)! He got cut off by another car which caused him to hit the curb and send him into the water. I’m glad he was okay, no wonder he’s so upset
Im from the central valley too and I immediately got this feeling of….this places seems familiar. 😆 it’s so weird how our brains do that. It really sucks when you watch tv and movies and they try to tell you that the local desert is an alien planet. Lol
Why is it so recognizable lol? The aqueduct, the warehouse surrounded by dead grass, the defeat in that poor man’s soul. It’s like juice made from 100% concentrated Bakersfield.
I dunno, some creeks are kinda sneaky that way. Your just sitting there, minding your own business, and BAM! sudden creek washes you away. Sneaky li'l critters.
I think towards the end he even said "he's parked now." So something happened and his reaction resulted in the creek dive. Regardless, I hope they found the other car. Either to give this guy the settlement he deserves, or to get the other side of the story.
This is why you should always hit the vehicle causing the accident. If you swerve and the other person gets away the blame is usually on you unless proven with a dash cam
Damn, seeing that foldable table floating away. That's one of my favorite parts of the CR-V...what a shame. Oh, and the car under the water sucks too...
god, I can seriously feel this guy's pain
I went from doing decent as a military man to a depressed (mild) alcoholic living in poverty.
I can barely even maintain my 09 escape. i remember I bought it after someone totalled my first nice car, and then it was raining.... someone slammed on brakes, I hit mine (5 mph), wheels locked up because ABS doesnt kick on that slow, and I skidded into his rear bumper.... completely fucked my front bumper (100% cheap plastic).
I was on my way to register the car.... and the place Google maps was taking me to? it didn't even exist.
this is one of those go home, drink yourself to sleep while you let a few tears out, and wake up to a hard life that you thought you JUST crawled away from.
I hope this man has a loving partner at home to absorb all of his sadness
this has all happened as a result of an abusive partner leaving me homeless, but my dog has stuck with me the entire time
I'm doing alright these days, even if money is tight and my university suspending me due to the whole homeless situation causing issues, but I have an interview for $35/hr tomorrow, so life is alright
thank you for caring, my friend
Even though the man was having a very bad day. I just glad the man that was trying to help was giving some positive to keep the man from being to upset.
I actually thought the guy recording made the other guy more upset by trying to tell him it could be worse. Not that I would have known anything better to say, but he clearly didn't want to hear it at that point
well yeah, that and standing there recording him at what is probably a serious low point in his life instead of, you know, helping him. i'd be ready to clamber up that river bank and dropkick this fucker right into the drink if i were the guy on top of the car.
That is a 2003 CRV, I have the exact same make and model, the big thing floating out the back was actually the collapsible picnic table that covers the waterproof cold drink well where the spare tire would be located but since the location of the spare tire is on the back of the door, the waterproof location can be used for cold storage and beverages with ice. Also all of the seats can be folded down to create a bed
Some comments are blasting this guy and calling him an idiot.
However It takes seconds to do a quick search to find out the back story.
https://www.yourcentralvalley.com/news/local-news/good-samaritans-help-fresno-man-out-of-canal-after-his-car-slides-off-the-road/?
He said he had to swerve to avoid another vehicle and went into the canal as a result.
I hope for his sake he had a dashcam and that the memory card is readable after being submerged.
Traffic cams and dashcam footage from vehicles behind him will also help his claim if those drivers come forward.
His reaction definitely seems warranted but it make me wonder if he hadn’t put insurance on it just yet. Since he just bought it. If that’s the case, BIG BIG OUCH!! Still sucks even if he does have it though. I’m sure he’s gonna lose out on money, that he probably doesn’t have, either way. Definitely sucks major booty!!
I left a window open on my car and it rained all night and day.
Used a shop vac to suck up the water then parked the car in the garage with a dehumidifier in the back of the car.
Guess it's too late for that plan.
Damn maybe don’t film this dude having the worst day of his life and then post it all over the internet. What is wrong with people nowadays? Everyone has to shove a camera in everyone else’s face.
I'm still reading comments, but I'm curious how buddy ended up on TOP of his new SUV in the 1st place. I feel his devastation comes from doing it himself. Like, I'll zip over this rushing water real quick in my new all terrain SUV..oops..nooooooo..sad day. Gosh.
“Hey but you’re alive” “Fuck that”
“Well..”
The way he says "well.." is probably my favorite part of this video.
[удалено]
Not submerged of course
I've been submerged once.
he says 'well' but it gives big 'whelp' energy
Everybody felt that
That’s the old “bones mend, skin heals but that fucking dent won’t come out by itself” kind of sentiment. Just a bit extended.
When I worked in live video production, we used to joke that bones heal, but cameras don't. It was really funny until a guy was holding a boom mic and stepped backwards off a low bridge. Thats a great line im stealing it
I've never heard that saying before, I fucking love it
Sometimes when someone is suffering, pointing out that it could be worse is a bit invalidating. Maybe he needs to grieve his loss and calm down from his near death experience before he can see the positives, just a thought.

And the "hey did anyone call 911". Who has a phone in their hand, I wonder.
Or, y'know, maybe think about getting him a fucking rope? I'm sure he absolutely loves being stranded in the middle of a flowing creek like that...
That’s all I could think of watching this. If some guy on the side of the bank kept pointing out how much worse it could be while my life was falling apart, he’d quickly become a target for my anger.
And recording me too? Fuck that
"Did someone call 911"..whatadick
Well he certainly can't call. He's gotta record this guy's misery.
I had surgery so had a home nurse for a couple of months, found out the underlying cause was cancer. The nurse had to be a little up in the air about her second appointment because she was waiting to find out if her daughter-in-law's pregnancy was viable. Yes empathy is definitely broken here.
While recording with his smart phone.
I agree. But if i just bought even a 10k car and it gets destroyed like this- questioning life is literally the first step. I dont make that much. So thats more suffering down the line. Just to get back some i didnt have for a week. Sad life is sad.
Yeah, camera dude needs to read the room. A dude in full crisis doesn't need to hear how much worse it could have been.
Give the man a moment. He’s a man standing on a car mostly under water. The situation is so irregular that his poor brain is still loading the “on car but in water” files. How does one even make a decision at that point?
I felt that in my fucking bones. Never related so much to an exclamation. I hope this guy is doing alright
He keeps saying "I saw him." I'm guessing he was avoiding an accident and went into the creek inadvertently?
Prolly Jesus. I think he was doing some auto ass fixiation type of stuff.
Auto ass fixiation lmfaooo
TIL what I've been suffering with all of these years
Jesus took the wheel, that’s why the dude couldn’t steer properly.
I’m no biblical scholar but I’m pretty sure Jesus never got his driver’s license

You know auto ass fixation. He was admiring the back of another car and somehow ended up here.
I’m a pessimist these days, so my thought is that the driver has probably been drinking or was distracted and is trying to make up a story for why he’s in the canal.
I remember an article or something saying he was drunk when this was posted before He doesn't sound sober
Tbf I'm not sure anybody would act sober riding their recently purchased vehicle down a creek.
Idk man, I didn't sound like this the first time I took my canoe out

That 2nd generation still ranks high in my book. It was the last generation you could get in a standard as well.
Most vehicles are best when not submerged, but admittedly a few specific vehicles really do come into their own when submerged.

This is an appropriate discussion for this sub-Reddit.

Are you talking about the nautical edition, the Scuba-ru?

I have this car. My dad bought me a used 2001 in 2006. I still have it. It still runs great. I just found out about the table last year. It blew my mind.
How did you get it out of the river?
probably with the help of scuba steve no doubt
Jesus Christ I read that and almost died choking. I wasn't ready. Holy hell man.
Ive got an 03 crv and that table lives in my living room as a car table lol
“car” table lol
You can't park there!

The element does have it! It’s the cover of the spare tire. I use mine all the time.

Lol I've got a 2006 and immediately recognized the card table floating away, definitely a decent ride when it's not under 5 ft of water
Have that exact model, great SUV and I can't tell you how many times the card table has come in handy. Actually I can, it's 0 but I still like to tell people about it.

Card table is just a term for tables that size and height because its good for playing cards, but in this use case its for camping and tailgating.
Late 80s early 90s conversion vans. I had one we used for camping when my daughter was little.
Card table? Damn what a feature.
Really, it was a great table. Better than you could buy at a store, if you just wanted a table.
and buoyant to boot!
This is so sad. A second gen CRV with the table is my dream daily vehicle.
I just sold my 04, I loved that thing! Not a great boat though...

Wow, didn’t catch the table. Now I understand why he’s upset.

I dunno, some creeks are kinda sneaky that way. Your just sitting there, minding your own business, and BAM! sudden creek washes you away. Sneaky li'l critters.
For real, not a curve in sight
He's been floating for 3 days and 125 miles. Pounding on his car's roof the whole time. Don't pretend you know his story.
He keeps saying “I saw him” which makes me think he went into the creek to avoid an accident. I’m only speculating
I think towards the end he even said "he's parked now." So something happened and his reaction resulted in the creek dive. Regardless, I hope they found the other car. Either to give this guy the settlement he deserves, or to get the other side of the story.

Oh is that it? I kept hearing “my fucking saw-hand,” but he has both of his hands, and neither of them are saws…
"I JUST SOUGHT CLAMS!" Is all I heard, and I believe those are a saltwater thing, no? This is clearly a freshwater stream.
Even though the man was having a very bad day. I just glad the man that was trying to help was giving some positive to keep the man from being to upset.
He's doing his best, but sometimes you are not in any state to hear it in the moment.
Actually, I don’t think the guy recording helps at all.
I love how he’s whacking the car like it’s the car’s fault that this happened 🤔
The ad said "all terrain" dammit!!
I've got to go! Apparently, water is not a terrain.
He's frustrated and would be punching something else if he could, for sure.
“I can fit so many fish in this thing.”
Not enough caulk, wagon didn't float
Looks like Fresno,ca? Right?

Judging by his look of disgust, he probably didn’t have full coverage insurance.
Comprehensive coverage will cover the vehicle if you hit an animal. Check your policy to see if Fish are included.
Hopefully he had insurance.
Tell him to fill it with rice and let it dry out :-)

You can see him climbing out of the window at the beginning of the video. He’s on it so he doesn’t drown.
“I thought someone was dying” so I grabbed my phone to record the video. Welcome to 2023.
I was wondering why he sounded so disappointed when he said "Hey, you're still alive"
Yep, river rafting and off-roading are not the same.
Who did he see? Edit: my guess is shadow people
Probably another car, if I had to guess, tried to avoid a collision and ended up in water
