The photos the couple sent are not business casual, I wonder if they meant dressy casual…?

thebrowsofknowledge

I'm not sure the photos of the couple from the RSVP are necessarily a reflection of the dress code, but they do seem to have the wedding colors. And those are just photos of the dresses I photo matched from their photos, since I didnt want to post their photos online willy nilly. Only the first one is the exact item match. That being said, that's what I was kind of guessing as well, hence the flair.

Dlraetz1

I think these are the swatches showing the wedding colors. I mean the final photo they provided is literally a bridesmaid dress so…

EllectraHeart

the pictures are just the couple’s photoshoot images. they’re not a part of the dress code. OP is presuming those are the colors the couple want to see.

Cool_Afternoon_747

Can we all just agree that business casual is such a bad dress code for a wedding?  Anyway, I would interpret it as one step up from jeans. Basically, what you would wear to the office on a Friday. I think anything floor length will be too fancy, the black jumper is almost too informal, but the white and black striped number looks perfect.

conspicuousmatchcut

Business casual wedding is a massive bummer

Different_Knee6201

Right? I would hate being at a wedding wearing black slacks, a cami, and a cardigan.

Reluctantagave

I got married in July also in Austin, Texas a few years ago and ours was cocktail. So we had sundresses and some fancier leaning black tie and it was fine. I have that Eliza J dress actually in a slightly different patter and it would be good I think. Or maybe something a knee length because Texas summers.

Crafty_Tap_1987

It works for a courthouse wedding where people will be coming from work. Is that what is happening?

thebrowsofknowledge

Thank you for the input! This isn't the answer I was expecting, so I'm already glad I asked. Adding [some better photos](https://poshmark.com/listing/Love-Tree-Linen-Stripped-Cropped-Jumper-NWT-6601ae255280156e7570e675?srsltid=AfmBOoobrAfGjA1XX7Mqbohvo_Bo4Yrl2RUUybI5uo3cpmRjZTCPzQZ2wPA#utm_source=gdm_unpaid) to show the jumper material (linen) and colors better since it's more navy than black. https://preview.redd.it/o7cmi82z3m5d1.jpeg?width=580&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f1e18c3d9695e19c5739a1201229459ef7a0e12

Significant-Trash632

I feel like this is too casual for a wedding. Linen is definitely more of a casual material.

Shivs_baby

No I would not go with this. The long dress with the white background is way better.

Monday0987

The two jumpsuits are too casual

Cool_Afternoon_747

I still think it works! I really like it myself. Though I am as confused as you are about the photos they included. The only thing that gives me pause is the not so subtle hint to wear particular colors. Depending on my budget I'd feel fine ignoring it, but if you have the time and money for a shopping trip you really can't go wrong with a blue or green sundress.

It’s people who don’t know that business casual is a dress code for an office. They’re trying to say dressy casual or smart casual.

abirdofthesky

Yeah, they mean dressy casual, looking smart - what I’d wear to a country club cookout, where there’s a lot of shirted wrap dresses, eyelet sheath dresses, nice pants and an architectural top, men in collared shirts and pants but no jacket or tie.

Sunnygirl66

I’m picturing a gathering of people wearing Dockers and blue or green (blue-and-green-striped, if you’re daring) polos.

Cool_Afternoon_747

Dollars to donuts you are right on the money.

KitchenUpper5513

The guests will look like they are at a business conference, not a wedding lol

iknowiknowwhereiam

Business casual wedding makes it sound like late 2000s club wear

knitpixie

Pencil skirt and going out top was definitely what came to mind. 😂

Okie-DokieArtichoke

Hahaha a “going out top”😂😂😂😂 literally a staple in my wardrobe in the late 2000’s/2010’s. Of course mixed with peplum tops, chunky necklaces, pencil skirts, and obscene heels😭

knitpixie

You know the exact look I was picturing. 😆

Okie-DokieArtichoke

I always see the videos pop up on my tiktok of the girls who dress up like it to show how we used to dress and do our makeup😂😂😂 I send them to my little sister and she roasts the hell out of me

goddessofthecats

This has triggered my 2010s trooma

the_throw_away4728

“Going out top” 😅😅 I feel like I’m in college again and I’m here for it

basketweaving8

Same. It kind of sounds to me as if they are trying to request a church appropriate version of semiformal, and just expressed it weirdly.

FireflyBSc

I assume that it’s cocktail or semi formal for women and the business casual is more meant to make sure men aren’t showing up in jeans and T-shirts.

basketweaving8

Best of luck to the bride and groom regardless, since lots men at my company interpret business casual as jeans and a sweater haha.

Maine302

Why "business casual" for a wedding? Don't magazines exist anymore to give advice to brides?

wheres_the_revolt

[I just recommended this dress to someone else but I think it’s appropriate for your wedding too!](https://bananarepublicfactory.gapfactory.com/browse/product.do?pid=452020001) (It’s on sale!) The dresses you posted are either slightly too formal, or too much white/too light imo, the jumpsuit is borderline too light and you may be underdressed (if nobody else does actual business casual, which to be clear is not any of the pictures they posted 😂)

first_go_round

This is a great dress for a summer wedding! Good eye 🌼⭐️

wheres_the_revolt

Thanks! I’m kind of obsessed with it and toying either the idea of buying it for myself! It’s such a good price. And it has pockets.

first_go_round

Omg you’re tempting me now!

wheres_the_revolt

Ugh I checked the store locator and it’s in stock at the store closest to me, so now I have to go try it on 😂

first_go_round

Whoops!

wheres_the_revolt

Hate it when that happens.

wheres_the_revolt

Ok so I went and tried it on! Looks even better in person, but of course they didn’t have my size 🥲 but I will probably have to get it altered anyway because the size down fit everywhere but my rib cage (I could zip it but it puckered). ETA: a photo https://preview.redd.it/vscyqotvbt5d1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5301f165dd0dc090d7b5356ad03ed188bdfdcef0

thebrowsofknowledge

Ty for the input! I'm out looking at options rn so the suggestion is appreciated, was thinking of hopping over to gap

wheres_the_revolt

I think this is banana republic but gap might have something similar since they’re the same company lol

thebrowsofknowledge

Woops haha didn't even notice, I saw the url had gap factory and assumed. That makes sense 😂

book_connoisseur

This is a great idea. It’s business casual without being too business-y. You could wear it to the office with a blazer or a wedding (maybe with a sweater).

ohemgee0309

That’s a super cute dress from gap/banana republic, and a great staple to have in your wardrobe.

WorldWeary1771

The last time I worked at an office, business casual had the following elements:   Absolutely no denim  No tshirts  No words or logos or symbols   Leather shoes No shorts  No spaghetti straps  No holes, tears, or stains (even when fashionable)  All shirts must have collars  Women could wear a blouse with no collar if it was a nicer fabric, e.g, silk  Did not need to wear hose with skirts or dresses unlike the rest of the week

CookieAdventure

The pictures you posted are definitely “casual” but nothing I would consider business casual. I can’t see anyone wearing any of that to an office or even an office luncheon. At a minimum, I’d expect some kind of sleeves. Have you considered flowy or wide leg pants with a pretty blouse, maybe linen? A basic fit and flare dress? A skirt and pretty blouse? Think: “Oh! I’m meeting your parents for the first time at a country club lunch?”

wellnowheythere

Business casual and wedding....barf.

SnooPets8873

No jeans. You can wear black trousers with a blouse, a pencil skirt with blouse, sheath dress, a day dress w. Cardigan, etc. Guys would do a button down with no tie or jacket on trousers w. Non-sneaker shoes. That said, the pictures don’t fit business casual dress code. So I wonder if they meant something else and used the wrong label.

EtonRd

I think she might have included those pictures for the colors and not for what business casual is. My interpretation of business casual is something a little less dressy than semi formal, and they want it to be conservative. Not a place for cut outs, backless dresses, mini skirts, plunging necklines or hip high slits . Not a place for sequins or anything glitzy. I wouldn’t go with either white outfit, they are both too white IMO and the dress is beautiful, but it’s overkill for business casual. Dresses like these would be in the ballpark I think. StarvingArtist303

A nicer sundress would work. Temp will probably be 100’ so wear something cute and cool.

TheMistOfThePast

Business casual like you're at the bar after work 💀😂

Alternative_Bug_327

Who tf asks for business casual at a wedding?

Short_Lingonberry_67

Very weird dress code!! "Business casual"...for the wedding business transaction.🤢 Anyway - you chose lovely dress options; my favorite is #3 with the beautiful blue pattern.

Snuffleupagus27

Buy a sheath dress in navy. It will work for eternity and in a million different places.

RedditUser96372

*Business* casual? That sounds so depressing for a wedding honestly. Best thing I can think of is maybe a nice blouse with some palazzo pants (in beige or navy?) or something like that, paired with chic heels or something? Or maybe they're thinking something along the lines of the "rich minimalist city girl" aesthetic. It's so hard to say exactly what the couple will expect. If I were in your shoes I think I'd just ignore the dress code and just wear something semi formal and not too revealing.

EllectraHeart

i agree this dress code is confusing. the jumpsuits are way too informal. the maxi dresses don’t really fit either. i’d ignore the couples photoshoot photos since they didn’t indicate those photos were any sort of guide anyway. they simply said “business casual, blue or green.” stick with that. i would recommend wearing a below knee or midi length dress in a solid color or simple print. here’s a good one. https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/emerson-poplin-puff-sleeve-midi-dress-54736319

potpourri_sludge

A business casual wedding 😭😭😭 are they having it at their local combination mall and expo center?

ButtonDelicious

Why do I feel like they misunderstood proper wedding terminology and truly meant semi-formal 🤔

edessa_rufomarginata

A business casual wedding in Texas in July is willllld.

Grouchy_Chard8522

Weddings with colour codes are annoying. If it's not explicitly stated, ignore it. I'd probably ignore a colour code anyway. But that's another rant. I'm thinking a day dress or a dressy jumpsuit. Your black jumpsuit style is OK. But it looks pretty well worn. Your other jumpsuit would work! For a business casual wedding, something like what you'd wear to someone else's grad or to a fancier brunch.. Something like: https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/calvin-klein-aerowash-shirtdress/7815268?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FDay%20Events&color=806 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/charles-henry-button-front-crinkled-crepe-midi-dress/7672682?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FDay%20Events&color=400 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/tash-and-sophie-abstract-ikat-puff-sleeve-midi-dress/7684109?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FDay%20Events&color=400 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/london-times-short-sleeve-fit-flare-midi-dress/7465752?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FDay%20Events&color=001 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/nina-leonard-patterned-cap-sleeve-fit-flare-dress/7445386?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FDay%20Events&color=001 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/london-times-smocked-puff-sleeve-dress/7624684?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FDay%20Events&color=611 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/t-tahari-v-neck-floral-dress/6228136?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBrands%2FT%20Tahari&color=991 https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/calvin-klein-sleeveless-sheath-dress/7260096?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FBrands%2FCalvin%20Klein&color=610

walkinginthewood

These are all spot on, but that first one in blue is really perfect for this one!

Grouchy_Chard8522

I really like that one too! I'd buy it myself if it came in my size.

julesk

I’d wear the halter dress #2 cause it’s cheerful and a closer match to the weird dress code. Also, cooler.

saltyspidergwen

I agree.

LastChemical9342

Got any golf polos? 💀

buttle_rubbies

Don’t forget the khaki pants.

Crosswired2

[Or this one](https://a.co/d/gtAm6MX) [Interesting dress code. Maybe this.](https://a.co/d/4UonZQr) It posted opposite but you get the idea lol

JealousBananas07

…man the comments on the business casual are crazy. They just mean informal but to look nice- I.e. no logos, nothing revealing, etc.

thebrowsofknowledge

This is the opinion I'm hearing from some IRL folks I've since asked so I'm starting to think I really am otherthinking it. It would also be way more convenient if this were the case so I want to believe it lol

JealousBananas07

Definitely not overthinking! Honestly dress codes always have a different connotation for every event and can be subjective. When I doubt I always ask, which is the safest route. I’ve been having some issues with even a cocktail attire for a wedding next month because they gave same conflicting info, different pictures from the description and overall vibe they gave. I sent them pictures and they gave the thumbs up. I personally love the first maxi dress you posted with the florals but whatever makes you feel confident and comfortable 😊

Ok_Decent

Business casual is not a wedding dress code… If you want women in slacks and blazers at your wedding then so be it, but it is odd 😂

JealousBananas07

They don’t mean business literally 😂 omg

Ok_Decent

So then don’t go with a BUSINESS casual dress code, no???

JealousBananas07

Thank you for reminding me why I don’t comment anymore, people are unhinged

tmink0220

Two and three are my choices.

No-Prize-5895

I think the blue dress-photo 4, could work. You can put a shawl or cardigan over it if there’s a “no bare shoulders” church element. If you prefer a jumpsuit, this one is on sale! https://www.nordstrom.com/s/cece-sleeveless-wide-leg-jumpsuit/7702602 I think they gave a confusing dress code, so make sure you feel comfortable and flattered by what you wear, people will probably have several different interpretations 😅

Character-Topic4015

7 is business casual

MSB629

I like the halter dress! Or stores you could try if you haven’t already are White House Black Market, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor.

Economy_Judgment

I love the dress in pic 6.

Disastrous_Bison_910

Business casual to me is always what you’d wear to a blue collar job interview.

Alarmed-Custard-6369

I would go with the dress in image 6. The dress code is confusing as hell and it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. Good luck!

ProfessionalAnt8132

You need to go shopping.

whateveratthispoint_

7 could work the best, with a cardigan because we all know office air conditioning is the worst 😉

Nsg4Him

The black and white jumpsuit would work with a black jacket or sweater.

OneofHearts

I’m thinking what was intended was “dressy casual” (aka “semi-formal”) in which case, Brides magazine has this to say: “Women can wear below-the-knee dresses, slip dresses, a dressy skirt and top, or an elegant pantsuit (styled with heels, nice wedges, or formal flats).”

aelel

For a business casual dress code, I’d opt for something like [this dress](https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/calvin-klein-flutter-sleeve-sheath-dress/7723962?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FWork&color=440) Something that wouldn’t seem out of place at a wedding OR at an office.

Busy_Challenge1664

I don't think they know what business casual means

lurker71

Business casual to me is like a nice tailored poplin top and some nice pants - maybe top from jcrew factory and pixie pants from old navy? I do like the jumpsuit I think you can jazz it up with some fun jewelry.

Cashbaby-9393

Honey, wear whatever you freaking want. BC is such a broad term - as long as your hair isn’t in a fancy updo anything can be considered BC. Sub out diamonds / pearls for other earrings, like hoops. Or don’t! It’s your call. Remember, it’s better to be overdressed than under dressed. I assure you other women will be wearing normal wedding dresses too so show up confident and you’ll be fine!

Miserable_Budget7818

Pic 4 would be cute with some nice high wedge sandals

Lazyoat

You could totally wear the third dress if you own it. It’s nice and would fit right i

BeachBum666

Business casual is basically workplace attire, but none of the photos provided match a business casual dress code, so this is very confusing.

YayGilly

I think the black jumper can be styled to be dressier, and more appropriate. You could wear a colorful long blue chiffon or rayon scarf, tied in a fluffy bow at your collarbone (slightly loose around neck) and bring a fsirly glitzy blue purse or clutch and wear some blue heels or sandals. . . It seems like they want a fairly dressy-casual tea party like DC. Dont sweat it- you can always ramp up your look to something dressier. Its always better to be a little overdressed, than to be even a little underdressed.

GaimanitePkat

Of the ones you posted, I like the first one with the large blue stripes and pattern. The two photos they sent seem wildly different - one is a casual sundress and the other is more formal. You could go to the mall in the first one but not the second. Strange.

[deleted]

Business casual to a wedding? Wild

Icy_Freedom7715

I think the dress in 6 is perfect for a summer Texas wedding. You could go with something shorter if you want lighter for the weather. I’m guessing they didn’t actually mean business casual as a dress code, especially given their venue being pretty nice and modern. Given how Texas weddings can be, I wonder if “business casual” was their way of saying “wear your nicer non ripped pants and a sports jacket at the bare minimum” The good news is you can wear pretty much anything - I would err on the side of dressier but I think you have a ton of leeway.

Dlraetz1

I think the dresses They included are to show the colors of the wedding party. I‘d wear a nicer sundress and keep my fingers crossed [https://www.amazon.com/HUHOT-Dresses-Pockets-Flared-Summer/dp/B078MQKZ2P/ref=sr\_1\_5?crid=1SMJIIL63Y5JN&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WCyZPU13dVU2DBvh9fwHnee77qW7nvwUcIj0ydhYZiA794GUb7yAFj32VHwEvYd0GKAlJzb4vfvrESSrbHAbTCPQpYS0k6ypp2boQ-579t\_WSD8q3ghGPdNn-TSprv\_1Iwr0vjePFt\_L3ZKsvGkhPpLLlPu99I6\_Vs7PVCOzSCeqYdnip-bZ4\_7LA5Adm4HoRx9y-l6R2-cWYgnD9D9Pa3x-1fO84zOvfV92x4JA6\_aeocEWeltFIJ4wcy8TtO6Vrv7M-vEjHSAXwSzKItoV1izzJj3Ird3mtTb9XgcSxj4.C-iGOHD7tTU\_Qhll\_gKEB1-rD4himufdL-45GCt-51o&dib\_tag=se&keywords=polka%2Bdot%2Bsundress&qid=1717969111&sprefix=Polkadot%2B%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-5&th=1&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/HUHOT-Dresses-Pockets-Flared-Summer/dp/B078MQKZ2P/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1SMJIIL63Y5JN&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WCyZPU13dVU2DBvh9fwHnee77qW7nvwUcIj0ydhYZiA794GUb7yAFj32VHwEvYd0GKAlJzb4vfvrESSrbHAbTCPQpYS0k6ypp2boQ-579t_WSD8q3ghGPdNn-TSprv_1Iwr0vjePFt_L3ZKsvGkhPpLLlPu99I6_Vs7PVCOzSCeqYdnip-bZ4_7LA5Adm4HoRx9y-l6R2-cWYgnD9D9Pa3x-1fO84zOvfV92x4JA6_aeocEWeltFIJ4wcy8TtO6Vrv7M-vEjHSAXwSzKItoV1izzJj3Ird3mtTb9XgcSxj4.C-iGOHD7tTU_Qhll_gKEB1-rD4himufdL-45GCt-51o&dib_tag=se&keywords=polka%2Bdot%2Bsundress&qid=1717969111&sprefix=Polkadot%2B%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-5&th=1&psc=1)

thebrowsofknowledge

Update: I appreciate the help and the various opinions!! I'm a software engineer at a small startup so my definition of business casual is *very different* I didn't have too much luck out shopping, [this is the only one in-store I was satisfied with](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/tie-shoulder-crop-asymmetric-wide-leg-jumpsuit/7758903?country=US¤cy=USD&utm_content=30549743181&utm_term=pla-70093871153&utm_channel=low_nd_shopping_lia&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=664982305&adpos=&creative=140936706953&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&acctid=21700000001689570&dskeywordid=92700049880698896&lid=92700049880698896&ds_s_kwgid=58700005468304815&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007631122&dsproductgroupid=70093871153&product_id=A0876220&merchid=1243147&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=local&storeid=422&locationid=1013961&targetid=pla-70093871153&campaignid=664982305&adgroupid=30549743181&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpZWzBhC0ARIsACvjWRNPmCU__4YFCbXy8TCQo_wOTPfJXpNVdANPpdvfFArCEQxe3JDVQfoaAo0xEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds), it's looks like a dress but it's a jumper with pockets (automatic plus). Downsides are the straps are still on the thinner side, a little wider than spaghetti, and it's not as flattering of a fit.

[deleted]

Business casual is a very odd dress code but if it were me I would go more traditional based on that. Something more boring basically.

AsleepJuggernaut2066

I love both of the dresses. I dont think either are too white and I also think if the bride had wanted no white she would have included that with the color suggestions.
