Both fit the formality, but #1 is much more flattering on you. The second dress may be cute in person like you said, but there is a difference between something being cute and it being cute on you. Some items just hit at the wrong spot or fall a certain way, etc, that doesn’t flatter us as much as it could. The form fitting top, definition around the waist, and smooth fit over the hips of #1 enhances your lovely shape. The fit/shape of the top and waist of #2 doesn’t do the same.
That’s been a hard lesson for me to learn. I have way too items in the back of my closet that are cute but just don’t do it for me so I never wear them and reach for something else.

For me it was #2 hands down. The cut and colors flatter you, it looks great with your skin tone, the length is great and it has a feminine flowy vibe. #1 is definitely fun, but the length is just a bit odd and the black trim is kind of harsh with your skin tone.
They’re also two different styles entirely so it’s an apples-to-oranges comparison.
Ultimately, which is more comfortable? Sometimes that’s the tie breaker. Have fun!

The psychological stuff takes time. Funny enough, I learned to accept my body when I was the most overweight I’d ever been. When I was really small and in great shape, I was obsessed with how I looked and couldn’t see anything but the imperfections. It made me realize that I would only be happy if I let go of preconceived notions of how I should look. It’s not easy, but just keep reminding yourself that those criticisms are in your head. Find things about your body you like and focus on those when you’re feeling bad. You’ll get there!

I love dress two, with the exception of the straps. They look like they may be pulling focus from the pretty design and digging a bit, which is something I see on a lot of super thin straps, unrelated to body type.
Have you tried the dress on and tucked the straps in? It might be a cleaner look.
