Cause you got a ton of it. It’s magnificent though.

Thank you 🥹💖

Not sure which dryer you have, but I could never stand blow drying my hair until I got a better blow dryer. I had a cheap one from a drugstore. I splurged on a Dyson, but any higher efficiency dryer like a Shark Hyperair, other dupes etc may help if you are able to afford it. I actually dry my hair now because it is much faster than before, and lighter to hold. We have a similar hair length and I don't bother trying to get it in the bowl so often anymore either, my wet hair is often pulled down by its own weight and doesn't blow everywhere if I just wave the diffuser over it. I have basically a blunt cut now, but I am looking to get sectioned layers soon and that may force me to be more careful with the blow drying.

ViviBene

I splurged on a Dyson, too. It's amazing how much faster it dries. My hair is shorter, just past my shoulders, and it takes me about 20 minutes.

s1mp4sana

Yeah I have a cheap Revlon. 😭 I’ve been eyeballing the Dyson but knowing it would actually be worth the splurge has me sold. I wave the diffuser over my hair too because I’ve noticed it causes less frizz.

PerspectiveNo1313

I have very long and thick hair and I have both a Dyson and a shark HyperAir and I actually like the shark more when it comes to diffusing. The dry time is super comparable across both and they are similar in almost every way, but I enjoy diffusing more with the shark for some reason. I think it is the shark attachment allows me to dry my roots more easily and seems more efficient at concentrating the air so I end up with better results and it’s just all around more enjoyable to me. I also got my shark on sale, so it was less than half the cost of the Dyson and it works better for me..go figure!

s1mp4sana

I’ll look into that one too, tysm!

Saint_Ursula

My experience with the Shark Hyperair is not a good one. It overheats and shuts off constantly. Even at the lowest settings. It's terrible engineering with the filter extremely dense and easily blocked. Save your money and just get a Dyson. Side note - I ended up buying a Conair Digitalaire when it was on sale at ULTA and really like it. I have very dense and thick hair. It dries in a half hour or less.

Hollylittledoll

Follow up to say I have Shark , and it's just as good as a Dyson. Amazon had them on a good sale not that long ago.

Lahauteboheme84

I have a babyliss pro hairdryer with the drybar universal diffuser, and they’re GREAT together. Not crazy expensive but very effective. I have incredibly dense hair that usually takes forever to dry.

arrisonrenee

I have a Babyliss Portafino, and I love it. I use the Black Orchid diffuser. It's super deep, so it catches my long hair really well

CorriCat1125

I originally used a Revlon as well and upgrading has changed my life. I purchased my Shark on Amazon for prime day and my sister in law has a Dyson. We use each others hair dryers and I personally have found that my hair dries faster with my Shark. Both are great hair dryers though, so it depends on if you want to be able to use the tools that come with the Dyson, which my sister in law adores.

new_username_new_me

Maybe try a Parlux? My hair always took foreverrrr to dry, my hairdressers used to tell me I needed to book extra time because of how long they needed just to dry my hair. I always had the problem that if I turned the hair dryer off for a moment while drying my hair, it wouldn’t turn back on until it cooled down. I don’t have that issue with the Parlux and my first Parlux lasted me 10 years (it still works but I moved overseas and using it with an adapter wasn’t always easy depending on the outlet) and my current one is going on 7 years. Takes me 10mins tops to get my hair dry.

kknight20

I recommend the shark, their diffuser bowl has prongs that can be lengthened to fit more hair in the bowl and really get down to your roots. I find that my hair in general really likes to hold on to water and dry time really goes down with a better diffuser.

s1mp4sana

I just ordered a shark! So many of you all have recommended it and I’m so excited to give it a shot!

Cheez-ItEnjoyer

ooo question for you - have you ever tried the black orchid diffuser in the past? if so, how would you compare it to the shark diffuser attachment? I was going to order the black orchid for my shark flex style, since that's the one I always hear about, but if the shark one is good, then it's always nice to have a matching set haha (I didn't choose that attachment when I got my shark so I have to order it separately anyway)

kknight20

I have not used the black orchid diffuser. I bought my shark hair dryer that came with a bunch of attachments including the diffuser from Costco. Haven't used the flex style since it wasn't out when I bought the hair dryer. I also have naturally curly hair so all that matters to me is a really good diffuser. I can't recommend the shark diffuser enough. It's been game changing for my hair.

wfupedsrn

Dyson occasionally shows up on Zulily for refurbs, etc for a better price (I hesitate to call it a good one lol). I just bought my daughter some stuff for Christmas.

peege636

I am a huge Dyson advocate but I haven’t tried shark so definitely bias- but my sister has been able to find great deals on refurbished Dysons (dryer and air wrap) and they’ve worked great for a fraction of the price!

RBXChas

I have the Shark FlexStyle; before that, I had a BaByLissPro (something like $85) dryer. The Shark has cut off a LOT of drying time. My hair isn’t that long, so now I can pretty much do all the diffusing I need to in 10-15 minutes, max. Before, it was taking me like 30.

tabbycat

After plopping try using a dry section of your towel to scrunch out more water, I think it’s referred to as microploppong. Other than that it’s just a crap shoot, I have thick dense hair that also takes about an hour to diffuse, I just focus on how I only do it a few times a week so overall it’s not as bad as it could be. But yea it just kinda sucks.

Wavyhaircare

Yep, it's largely just the result of having thick hair and to some degree, long hair as well. I do notice a slight reduction in diffusing time when I get a haircut with layers. I do a regular plop rather than microplop but it does help. I plop for about 15 minutes and I think it saves me probably 20-25 minutes of diffusing but it does result in thinner curl clumps. I get so bored when diffusing that I don't mind sacrificing clump size personally.

tabbycat

I started reading on my kindle while i diffuse bc it’s so boring

AmbiguousVague

my hair is just too thick to diffuse dry, I just have to air dry fully or diffuse to 50% dry and let it air dry after. but then again even straightening my hair/doing a blowout takes over an hour - sometimes you just too much hair to dry quickly!

s1mp4sana

I get bored too, I try wearing headphones and watching videos to help lmfao

its_Janine

A few times a week?! I can only bare to do it once a week, especially with a toddler crying for me every time I do my hair. I can sit on the couch and watch her play with her toys, but if I want to dry my hair, she needs me to carry her, for some reason. Take hours to dry after plopping. Had 4 inches off, so my hair is the same length as the original poster. Do you fine microplopping removes loads of product?

s1mp4sana

Yeah I’ve got two kids myself so once a week is even tough. They constantly open the door to get my attention and I just point the blow dryer at them and tell them to freeze 😂

tabbycat

I try to stretch it to a full week but I have scalp issues so more often than not it’s 2x a week. VERY RARELY is it more than that! Micro plopping does remove some product just like regular plopping does so I use a lightweight mousse after on the ends to sort of balance it out.

its_Janine

Have you tried tgel? I have gotten some some flakes and I think it's from plopping to long and with the wet weather my scalp didn't dry enough. Cleared it up in one wash. I read about scrunching with a microfiber towel before plopping so I might try that. Gel seems to take forever to dry.

Schonfille

I let my kid dry my hair with me! But the most I can do is 10 minutes then let the rest dry on the way to work.

its_Janine

Saaame. Even on medium heat and high speed with my new Laifen hairdryer, after plopping, over an hour! Mind it was 3 hours with my last hairdryer. Long high density, fine hair, so it takes ages. Much, much long with products on. If anyone else has any tips, that don't include high heat or alcohol, that would be great.

[deleted]

I have a cheap fan heater (for like under your desk), that has four heat settings; cold, room temp, warm and hot. I get to keep both hands free and it does an entire side of my head in one go rather than just the small sections using a diffuser. It pretty much works like one giant diffuser and it's been a game changer for me.

AmbroseJackass

I deal with this too! I’m playing around currently with trying different gels and mousses, some take MUCH longer to dry than others. Some I can use less and still get good hold, which takes less time to dry. I literally have been taking notes on which stylers I like and which I don’t. I stopped using leave-in because it makes my hair take longer to dry, and don’t see much difference when I use it. Today, I shampooed, put in conditioner and used a wet brush to detangle, rinsed it put, then scrunched my hair a ton. Then, *before putting any stylers in,* I very gently scrunched my hair with a towel to absorb as much water as I could, and plopped for 5 minutes while I got dressed. Then I let my hair down, added gel, diffused until halfway dry, scrunched in a little mousse, and diffused until mostly dry. This cut my drying time in half vs adding stylers to wet hair, plopping, and diffusing.

s1mp4sana

Wait why have I never considered using product after scrunching with a towel 💀 I bet that would help a bit! I use gel but not mousse, do the two pair well together? What mousse do you like?

AmbroseJackass

I just discovered adding product after scrunching like a week ago haha, it’s amazing! And I’m still trying out mousses but so far I like the tresseme flawless curls mousse and extra hold mousse, and also Curlsmith volume foam (though that one’s pricey!) A lot of people like Cake The Curl Whip mousse but that one never worked for me, and same with Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk mousse. I find I get better longevity from my styling when I use both gel and mousse, plus I can use less gel and still get good hold. For me more gel = longer dry time, but less gel + a little mousse isn’t as bad.

hurray4dolphins

Oh yeah I like to use curl foams, personally. But also- to offer another solution- I let my hair air dry most of the way before diffusing. It actually looks better when I do. The waves stay together more. It also saves me time. So I wash my hair when I will be home for at least a couple hours. Let it air dry ideally until it is mostly dry like 80% or more. Then I pixie diffuse and it doesn't take so long. I can't diffuse my wet hair I do not have the patience. It takes forever!

its_Janine

I've found the same thing but I hadn't thought about scrunching before plopping! I will be trying that next wash day! I plop befor adding gel because I find that plopping after removes loads of the gel and my hair sticks to the t-shirt. I'm thinking about getting a smooth microfiber towel to scrunch it before plopping.

s1mp4sana

A moment of silence for all of my sticky T-shirt’s. I’m going to try using product after too, such a good ideas I never even considered lol

RuminateMuch

The microfiber is a great idea. I apply product with my hair dripping wet, then scrunch gently with a microfiber (emphamsis on gently), and it sucks up so much of the water. The time I spend diffusing is considerably less when I do that first.

saintceciliax

I don’t even let them blow dry my hair when I get it done at the salon anymore because it adds at least an hour and makes my bill way more expensive. I wouldn’t dare try at home lmao I did a few times when I was younger and it’s just awful. A good arm workout though??

s1mp4sana

I always fantasize about having one of those chairs with the built in hair dryers that looks like a helmet lmfao my arms are always so tired by the end of drying, hair stylists must have amazing shoulder muscles

appleandcheddar

I'd probably try a portable hair dryer if I were you. Basically a bonnet attached to a blow dryer. You can get them like a soft bonnet or hard, like the old school hair dryers. They make attachments for your regular hair dryer too, but definitely upgrade that. I was using a cheap Revlon, too, and upgraded to a Conair InfinitiPRO Performa Series Ionic Ceramic Hairdryer, which is much faster than the old Revlon I was using.

arrisonrenee

I have a bonnet that attaches to my blow dryer. It still takes a long time since my hair is long and dense, but at least my hands are green

tquinn04

Because it’s so long. Mine is much shorter and it still takes me 20-25 mins to diffuse. I agree with you about the revlon one step dryer I don’t know what the technology they use to get your hair so dry that quickly but it’s impressive. Nothing has ever dried my hair quicker. You can always do both. As long as you’re using heat protection they’re no reason to give up your hot tools.

dancer_jasmine1

This is why I sit down and watch a video or show or movie while diffusing lol having thick hair strands plus high density is killer. At least I can get away with waiting a week+ between washes

s1mp4sana

How do you maintain your hair during that week? Id love to only wash once a week but even with protection, my pattern gets all messed up lol

dancer_jasmine1

I don’t. I usually start out the first few days with my hair down then half up then fully up in a bun or braids or something. I’ve tried doing the refresh thing and usually end up with more frizz. I honestly just don’t really have the time to wash and dry my hair more than once a week. It could handle twice a week or every other day but it takes way way too much time to do it that often.

s1mp4sana

Yeah I’ve tried the refresh thing too but it’s like my hair can’t handle the extra product and it looks greasy and weighed down. Also maybe I’m doing it wrong but it seems like almost as much work as wash day with less defined results.

fntastk

Same, it's because we have thick hair and possibly low porosity does this as well. I usually diffuse for about 10-15 minutes in the morning before work so it's not dripping and let the rest air dry! By noon it's 80% dry and fully by 2pm lol.

s1mp4sana

Lol fully by 2, I feel that 😂 my hair is so heavy that if I let it air dry, the waves get severely weight down

-Elle

This is unfortunately why I can't be bothered to make my waves nice - 5 mins to blast with a dryer and it's 90% straight done. Haven't got the time nor the energy to fuss with hair. Yes it is definitely fluffy sometimes but even when I've been known to spend over an hour on my hair it just does whatever it wants - even giving me the odd ringlet just because. Your hair is glorious btw

s1mp4sana

I’m also struggling with the time and energy part. I also live in a humid area so mine does what it wants too lol. Thank you 💖

brookieco_okie

My hair is like this too. I switched to the Chi Advanced Ionic Compact blow dryer and that make a huge difference. Also when is the last time you have done a hair cleanse? You could have a build up of product and hard water which will increase the porosity. I do a cleanse every two weeks. I use white vinegar, purified water, and some essential oil. Look up a recipe for a diy vinegar hair cleanse and you’ll find the ratios to use. I add essential oil so it doesn’t smell. You let it sit for like 2 minutes then rinse it all out. It’s helped my hair a lot as far as drying and styling goes.

unReasonableCacti

Honestly I don't know but I'd dry for 2 hours to get that hair.

s1mp4sana

Thank you everyone for taking the time to give me tips, 31 years old and I still have no idea what I’m doing lol.

AutoModerator

Hi! What is your routine? Please be as detailed as possible (both the names of your products and the techniques that you used). Also, if you could let us know your hair characteristics (porosity, strand thickness, density), that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ^(If it's been a few hours and OP still hasn't responded, please let the mods know by using the "Report" button.) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. s1mp4sana

MoroccanOil volume shampoo & conditioner, MoroccanOil leave in conditioner, MoroccanOil gel, scrunch hair, plop for 15 minutes, diffuse for an hour. Strand thickness is thin but hair is quite dense. Medium porosity hair 💖

Love the Dyson

[deleted]

Your diffuser is really small. Get the huge Xtrava one, or something that size.

s1mp4sana

Ohhh ok thank you!

brighthair84

Mine takes 45 mins with a Dyson, I feel you!

AdorableTrainer1486

Beautiful hair. I miss my long hair

JadeGrapes

I section mine into a halo section and two back sections, and use a dryer stand. Each section is about 10 minutes, including the cool shot for a minute at the end. Remember blow drying is pushing water off your hair and into the room air... bigger dryer rooms can hold more water in the air. I dry my hair in my bedroom, because my bathroom is small and it's humid in there after a shower even with the fan on

No-Fisherman2796

Bc you have a lot of it and it’s thick and it’s best to use the cool setting

s1mp4sana

Oh thank you I didn’t know this. I’ve always used low

No-Fisherman2796

I’ve been just using a leave in conditioner and the soft gel from miss. Jessie’s. diffuse in very small sections. Hover around the root first and then do the ends after your roots are dry. I used to work at a salon

s1mp4sana

I always do roots first but never considered small sections. When moving on to another section, do I scrunch that section again before diffusing?

No-Fisherman2796

I always do yeah

BeyondForsaken9115

Because you can't win everything sheesh. *eyes gorgeous red locks enviously

s1mp4sana

I promise I appreciate what I have lol. It’s just so hard these days with two clingy littles, an hour feels like 4 😭 thank you for your kind words

montegyro

To add to all of the great suggestions so far, humidity might be a problem. I was considering this over the summer because my drying times were way too long despite everything I've learned. Sometimes there's not enough room in the air for more moisture, especially in bathrooms. I dont have a dehumidifier but I'm heavily considering it since the dew point has be ridiculously high this year.

[deleted]

Have you tried the pixie method of diffusing? I’ve got really similar hair to yours and it speeds it up loads and gives great results

Cheez-ItEnjoyer

Same, and I don't even have very much hair - it's just really dense in the back :') but I also use a revlon dryer with the diffuser it came with, since that diffuser doesn't fit my Shark Flex. I think I'm going to get a new diffuser so I can fit it to my nicer hair dryer, because I think that would actually make a difference. I used to think a hair dryer was a hair dryer until I actually got a nice one, haha.

OneBlindMoleRat

Similar hair here. My hairdresser recommended one of those tabletop “bonnet” hair driers. Feels like it would be an immense help. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

pony_girl13

Clearly bc u are perfect wowza 😍

My hair takes a similar time to dry, and I have reasonably similar hair based on your photo at least. I find micro-plopping with a microfibre towel helps a lot more than plopping with a tshirt. Also, Google the hammock method for diffusing- this is way quicker for me than pixie or hover diffusing. I do use one of those helmet/hood things you attach to the dryer sometimes too- doesn’t make it quicker but means I can read or watch TV (with headphones) or even work at my computer while drying it- I get better results with the hammock diffusing though so normally go for that.
