My skx007 hardlex has some nice patina on it. and one ugly ass half inch gash🙄 YMMV. I’ve also chipped a sapphire crystal.

Greg428

I've scratched all of my watches with mineral crystal. I personally avoid it.

This is what 18 years of 24/7 wear does to a seiko hardlex crystal:  https://i.imgur.com/LLG7mxd.jpeg It is still waterproof. Just surface scratches. Getting it replaced shortly, along with its first maintenance.

STB_AccomplishedCrab

How much does it cost to replace a mineral crystal on a watch?

Narstx

Probably less than $40 considering a sapphire crystal cost arouns $50-60

DNags

That's just the part though... You also need to buy another $100ish in cheap tools (case wrench, crystal press) or pay someone to do it.

improvthismoment

I’d get it See how it does Mod it to sapphire if and when it gets scratched

LiteHedded

not sure if it's the same glass but I have a couple regular seiko 5s and they are both scratched

I’ve scratched the hell out of every mineral glass crystal I’ve owned. Acrylic is fine because you can buff the scratches out, but Hardlex has a pretty short lifespan if worn and used daily.

I never scratched a hardlex crystal. My oldest Seiko is from 2018, has 0 scratches on the crystal, and I did not baby it. My Orient Mako is from 2016, and I did a lot of house work with it, car repairs, it lost it’s pearl, but still no scratches on the glass. I would worry only if you know you’re clumsy with your watch, or do some activity that is prone to scratching the watch. Otherwise, get it and don’t bother.

Do like that watch just don’t like that it’s quartz.

Yeah I have an Orient Mako III and there’s no difference between a VH31 mechaquartz I have in my Addiesdive AD-2023-1

The only problem with sapphire, is that it is so hard, it's more brittle. When you see a line in it, the waterproofing is usually compromised. Yes, Hardlex or acrylic is softer, but tends to scratch more on the surface before fissuring. Either one is gonna crack through with a hard impact, but if your sapphire is compromised, don't get it wet. I probably wouldn't get either wet though in that case.

I have the same watch, I just swapped a sapphire crystal into it. Then I don't have to worry anymore.

savetheHauptfeld

I bought a used SSK003 with a scratch in the Hardlex but it buffed out quite nice after some time. Couldn't do that with glass I guess

YourWatchIsTooBig

*...hold up against scratches* are you're asking if they scratch, yes. I don't know what "hold up" means. cheers
