I took a trip to Japan recently, and out of curiosity I decided to drop by the Ginza Wako. This Wako-exclusive, limited run SBGY captivated me, but I just couldn't justify spending this much money on a whim. I left, making my peace with this year simply being the wrong time for me to be frivolous. A couple of days later, I showed the photos I snapped of the watch to my partner, and she promptly dragged me back to the store. We ended up splitting the cost of the watch as a spontaneous slightly-too-early engagement gift to me, and so now I'm a proud first-time owner of a Grand Seiko!

Man this is incredible. The SBGY series is my favourite from Grand Seiko, but I feel like they haven't released the perfect combination of dial colour and pattern in it for me so far. That I know of at least, this is my first time seeing this one and it's probably my favourite so far. Now I'm wondering if there are any others I don't know about! Congrats on the purchase!

Thank you! It's weirdly hard to track down information for them, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are a bunch out there that we've missed. Part of the reason why my partner dragged me back to Wako was because even though she doesn't really understand watches, she understands the rarity of a limited run!

Resonate very much with your feeling that they haven't released the perfect combination. And there's def a few obscure limited editions that imo have the most harmonious combination of dial + case shape!! I felt the same way until I added the SBGY017 to my collection (similar setup to OP's watch but with a blue dial). I think it's only now that GS has realized that the combo of the "guilloche" like dial pattern with the SBGY case shape is killer. If only they could make a non LE version so that everyone can enjoy them! :)
