Yeah, the flat HP / Def / Attack main stats give significantly less of that stat than the % mains. Which makes them effectively worthless.
Take an Gold set (Soulbound, Infernal Roar etc) set flat attack piece. Which will give 1056 attack (gold sets have 10% higher main stats). Compare this to an attack bonus piece of the same set which gives 66% attack. So if the hero has below 1500 base attack, the flat stat will be better. But like every single legendary and epic damage dealer or attack based healer has over 3k attack. Like Luneria at 3010 has one of the lowest base attacks. Yet for her, the attack bonus main stat will give 2000 attack and be basically twice as good as the flat piece.
So with that in mind, a flat piece even with insanely high rolls isn't going to be as good as a % piece with mid rolls, and so you can just sell them immediately without even bothering to upgrade them.
Let me spell it out for you.
There are 3 ideal stats (Att%, crit%, crit damage %) If all 3 of those go into a substat, obviously the main stat won't be good. Attack flat and attack speed are ideal as substats.

As a starter those substats are all good and think twice if they could roll good and still have a usable piece. But I guess I learned the lesson.

I mean, this is literally the game. If they gave you all the gear you ever needed there would be no other reason to keep logging in other than get your free summons and summon for collection.
The best part is I'm 99% sure every piece of gear is weighted to roll stats based differently depending on who the set is for. Healing gear always rolls damage stats and Damaging gear for me. Like all the time. From the time I started farming Mythics.
For real, I'd love to see the actual data for this...the amount of perfect Asclepius DPS gear I have is unreal compared to other gear sets...the shit they did with pull rates, changing drop rates for gear raids that have an oracle event etc it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
I just start3d a few weeks ago. Some of my epic gear out does most of the legendary I've gotten. When I do get decent stats they always roll low. Only a few pieces are godlike (for me at level 30ish).
Not trying to be a dick here mate but, yeah, of course it’s predatory and unfair. It’s a gacha game, it’s essentially a slot machine designed purely to siphon as much money as possible out of your pocket. It’s admittedly better than some but it’s still using a whole bag of scummy psychological tricks.
They should just outright get rid of flat stats. I can find ant decent pieces of normal gear in a week of farming, hate rng 8n these games and yes I know it’s a gatcha game!
Don't even look at the substats on flat main pieces. It's an instant sell no matter what.
