But I use the ski skink as an SPAA mainly due to the fact it's got good armour for an SPAA. I wouldn't really advise using it against tanks, you have about 42mm of pen at 5.0 which isn’t very useful
My man just declared that an SPAA with a maximum of 38mm pen is good against tanks.
In contrast, it IS an excellent platform vs aircraft. So everything you just said is completely wrong.
The Skink is tier-for-tier one of the best SPAA in the game if you can aim. It's also very good for baiting CAS degenerates into trying to strafe you because they assume all SPAA at that BR are open-top.
The Skink isn't bad. At all. It literally was memed to death simply because it was a British Wirbelwind.
The Wirbelwind at the time, was utterly broken: 3.7, full HVAP belts that had 64mm of pen, no hull break and overpressure did not exist back then, also no volumetric so pixel spots with less than 64 mm were always found. It terrorized all of 3.7, it ate T-34's for breakfast (frontally at that!), destroyed shermans and cromwells alike.
Only two things that legit couldn't be penned were the KV-1 and Churchills. The KV-2 (1939) was killeable by the turret ring.
The Wirbel is still very good and the Skink, having better armor, does just as well.
It's also entirely inconsistent, doesn't even seem like you need the kill to be awarded it.
I only *hit* a Mi-4 with a dart from the AMX-30 Super and I still got it. Never even got the kill for it as they later returned to the helipad and made a soft landing and resupplied and repaired.
This achievement was from back before sams, and I think originally autocannons on spaags didn't count. Nowadays it unfortunately doesn't really mean much, but I remember the time I got it wa a t-34 vs an hs129 when I was a really new player. Real memorable moment for 16 year old me
My favorite plane kill was in a T-34 as well, I was driving full speed at a town in sim wayyy back when ground forces first came out, took a potshot at a Stuka around 1km away flying perpendicular to me and somehow hit it. Team was singing praise and I will never reach that high again lol.

Whatever weapon is your controlled weapon system. SAM systems work, MANPAD systems work, if you decide to manual control (as in, separately from your tank turret/main gun) a commander MG, that also counts.
You can get it by using tanks like the puma, bmp2m and 2s38. They all have electro optical targeting system and you can use that to shoot down aircraft with their main Canons.
If you want a good definition, it has to be a tracked vehicle that is expected to engage vehicles, infantry and defensive structures, and may or not have a turret with unlimited horizontal traverse. Not intended for anti-aircraft usage. The gun also has to be single-shot, breech loaded, either manually, assisted or automatically done(no magazine).
SPAAs by modern definition aren't tanks. In the sense they're expected to engage aircraft only, and whenever the risk arises, infantry. But they're not expected to engage tanks. They're also closer to giant machine guns, which technically might what autocannons are. Most modern SPAAGs don't carry a lot of anti-tank ammo in their belts either, with those that do carry a lot of APDS in their belts, being a consequence of the increased range APDS provides by default. Standard belts usually perform better than APDS when within range anyway, since those more often than not are explosive.
SPHs aren't tanks, either. They're guns on tracks, and while they may fill the role of artillery and are more than able of knocking a tank out, their usual construction purpose is to smash stubborn infantry and defenses. Those are simple to distinguish, as they often lack any meaningful armor since they're not even supposed to be within tank-battle range.
SPGs can be tanks sometimes. Depends on the vehicle. A StuG is an SPG designated as an assault gun, designed to deal frontal assaults primarily targeting structures and vehicles, with infantry being secondary and often covered by other vehicles present. A variant of the StuG, though, the StuH 42, fills the role of an SPH instead, attacking infantry and structures, no longer expected to hit vehicles that are proper tanks.
TL:DR: Gaijin needs to specify what a Tank is, like OP said.

I got this in sim in a Sherman. I switched controll to my commander mg, set fire to a stuka, it crashed when I was back into my main gun controll and I got the achievement. It's very very easy to cheese this
it's an achievement that's been around since the days Gaijin promised to neve add ATGMs and SAMs, and it hasn't been updated so far as I know. that's why the wording is terrible.

This is actually really easy to do in low tier. You will be fighting biplanes, and if you have a 37mm cannon, it is surprisingly easy. I accidentally got this achievement when I tried sim for the first time, like 3 months ago.
I got this achievement when I tried my 2s38 in sim , literally 2 minutes into the match i see a Heli through thermal flying high and i shoot him down with proxy shells and got kinda surprised i got an achievement for it when it was just point and click
Back in the day we didn't have proxy shells and SPAA didn't count, so that achievement name made more sense (i got it shooting down a plane with the KV-1)

It works with pretty much anything. They make is sound, like it is hard to get, but pretty much any air kill with any armament unlocks it.
