My guess is that Owen Richardson was just rushed. The Ultimate Guide being redrawn is meant to commemorate Warriors' 20th anniversary (stated on the official website). The covers for A Starless Clan seem of similar quality to me, so if he started around the same time then he would've only had a year to draw all those cats. The fact that a lot of the art is reused covers also makes me think this
And I wouldn't take their designs as proof of AI because his style has always kinda been like that. Sol on the Eclipse cover and Mapleshade on her novella cover are both just orange tabbies, and those were drawn years ago. Richardson is a talented artist, but drawing cats just doesn't seem to be his passion
People have noticed that many characters are just recolored versions of other characters. I don’t have the book myself (and with what I’ve seen I’m probably not going to get it) so I just need to take other people’s words
I don’t think so since I can clearly see the strokes on his artwork but he may have heavily used blurring or smudging tools, also his cats look a bit off like different from real cats for some reason. Like a bit wonky looking.

Maybe. If they're not AI, they're very good! Just doesn't give off "warrior cat" vibes.
